I love Charles’s versions and his chops are incredible. However, I’ve asked several times over a few years for him to cover tons of songs and yet he’s never bothered. I’d love to his version of any song from Relayer by YES. Zappa Black Page Drum solo #2. Those are just two of hundreds. He stopped playing longer pieces. He stopped playing full songs as he used to do of his originals or classical pieces. Whatever works for him. Great! I’ve asked him what was going in when he went to some massive instrument thing in Georgia USA. Oddly, he never replied.

I've seen Les Claypool played the intro part live and I always wanted a full song with a basscentric setting. Thanks Charles 👍 this exceeded any expectations. Also thanks for including the softer middle parts too, easily one of the best parts of the song. A lot of covers with different Instrumentation I've seen just totally skip that part.
I can't say it enough...Charles is the best bass player in the world. Technically and melodically. The man creates amazing music and can put his own spin on some of the hardest songs to play out there.

Part of what makes a band like Dream Theater so good, isn't just that they play technical stuff, it's that they'll play 3 hour live sets and have been doing so for years and years. It's one thing to make videos in your bedroom where you can take weeks to produce a 3 minute video, it's another thing to constantly play the stuff live. That said, Charles is still fucking amazing.

@@switelolo1241 I have no Idea on how you work on your technique unfortunately, but I would say get in touch with a professional and start from scratch. I had to do the same thing after 10 years of playing on a daily bases cos‘ i thought myself so many mistakes that I got caught in a dead end. Put it all on reset, got a good teacher and It all changed. My Advice.
Well if you have that attitude about it then you won't accomplish anything. Don't waste whatever years you have left feeling that way. We are in a new world, a world where everyone has some kind of side hustle or hidden talent. You aren't any different, you just gotta figure out what you are good at. Maybe it's not bass guitar, maybe you are good cleaning stuff or building things. Maybe you learn how to make art or start a garden. Whatever it is that grabs your interest, run with it. We have all these dreams and ambitions when we are kids and then we grow up and get in this mindset we missed our chance to be someone amazing and do spectacular things and it's just not true. You can still have dreams, try new things and broaden your horizons. You're not too old, you haven't missed your chance and you have just as much of a chance at finding something you like and are good at as anyone else does so don't limit yourself with a shitty attitude. I get it, I catch myself with my own shitty attitude all the time but it will only stand in your way of what you could be doing. Even if you work, have kids or feel like you have no time to find out what you are good at, make time. Do something that brings you joy. There must be something you have always wanted to do or try, maybe it's time to pursue it?!
Charles, I have been playing bass on and off for 35 years and you never cease to amaze me with your skills on the best instrument in the world. THANK YOU for inspiring me to pick it up again and go even further in my LOVE for BASS after a 6 year hiatus of not playing. I sold my Bass 6 years ago because I had to support my family in a very tough financial season. But now I’m in a new season and I am working and saving as much as I can to buy myself once again my Bass from back in the day and rediscover my long lost passion to play. This way you could put different effects on each string. Or or could be two pickups, one for top 3 strings another for bottom. Or just get the whole 6 done and set it up like that or some other way

At 0:50 when your poking the strings. I forget what that's called. It instantly reminded me of the old SNES game Secret of Mana. The end of game music had a mix of melody's from throughout the game. At one point there is a bass solo. The composer was going ham with the SNES sound chip that day. In gameplay the SNES would have a hard time keeping up with the music. The game was supposed to be for the SNES CD. That fell through and Nintendo went with the N64. The SNES CD became the Sony Playstation. But this game was in development for the SNES CD. They quickly retooled the game for the base SNES. The result is at times in gameplay the game will have gameplay sound FX play over the music. The SNES has a limited number of channels (voices) that it can use at once. I dont remember the number but Secret of Mana music routinely steps over the background music number and tries to use all the voices. The gameplay sound FX over ride so it can sound odd in gameplay. Wavetable synth i think its called? Any way samples. This game used bass guitar for the bass riffs. Here is what im talking about th-cam.com/video/aC-o8J9dKRY/w-d-xo.html A bit of the end credits music. Let that play for about a min. The composer LOVED base riffs in that sound track. I recommend skimming through the rest of that video if ya want. Good stuff. The whole sound track is full of funky backing bass riffs. Game came out in 1992. Amazing.

He is very good, but people forget about the amount of takes and edits he has to do. The edits are a little more obvious in this one.

At 0:50 when your poking the strings. I forget what that's called. It instantly reminded me of the old SNES game Secret of Mana. The end of game music had a mix of melody's from throughout the game. At one point there is a bass solo. The composer was going ham with the SNES sound chip that day. In gameplay the SNES would have a hard time keeping up with the music. The game was supposed to be for the SNES CD. That fell through and Nintendo went with the N64. The SNES CD became the Sony Playstation. But this game was in development for the SNES CD. They quickly retooled the game for the base SNES. The result is at times in gameplay the game will have gameplay sound FX play over the music. The SNES has a limited number of channels (voices) that it can use at once. I dont remember the number but Secret of Mana music routinely steps over the background music number and tries to use all the voices. The gameplay sound FX over ride so it can sound odd in gameplay. Wavetable synth i think its called? Any way samples. This game used bass guitar for the bass riffs. Here is what im talking about th-cam.com/video/aC-o8J9dKRY/w-d-xo.html A bit of the end credits music. Let that play for about a min. The composer LOVED base riffs in that sound track. I recommend skimming through the rest of that video if ya want. Good stuff. The whole sound track is full of funky backing bass riffs. Game came out in 1992. Amazing.

As someone who has struggled to play 3 or 4 songs for 10-15 years I am very impressed and wish I had that kind of talent. Excellent mixing and recording too, sounds great even on cheap headphones.
