Perhaps the best musician I’ve heard; so many styles ,techniques, and every note is clean! I love that he takes his music seriously but doesn’t take himself too seriously! He seems like a genuinely nice guy who hasn’t let his ego go to his head as so many have.
A lot of people can play "fast technical stuff" and it's often fun to listen to. _Once..._ Berthoud does all that flashy stuff and MORE, but he does it without *ever* losing the pocket. Every note Charlie plays sits *perfectly-in-the-groove* and it makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. After a full hour of basstravaganza - you still want to hear MORE !!! 😀
This is one of the most spot on comments on this thread. He's got the ear, but also has practiced every note and silence to the point of seamless, effortless execution. Talent is a short way of saying character+discipline+genuine love for your art. There's no kudos enough to be fair with the hours he invested in achieving that level, just enjoy, he amazed and try to receive some inspiration 🤘

How is this possible? How can a single individual possess this much talent? How have I never heard of him before? He has got to be the most talented "person" in the world, but I'm in disbelief that he's human. This is the most amazing and mind blowing thing I've ever witnessed.
Well you can't say it's all talent, most of it is skill, you have to give the man some credit because saying it's just talent makes it seem like you're saying he's just naturally this good and didn't have to work for it. I understand this wasn't what you meant by it but still.

@@kaiman593 you're definitely right, but the thing is, most people don't improve quickly enough because they don't know how to practice efficiently. Charles finished a professional music school (he wears the grad ring on his right pinky), pretty sure they gave him extremely solid foundations on how to improve in a quick and efficient manner, which is an advantage that self-taught bassists don't have
Every bit as good as Tosin. Put this kid on the cover of every guitar magazine. This is nuts! and his sense of humour comes out in not just the videos but his music. it is like his personality is shining through a bass so authentically it is hard to describe. woah
Two things that stand out for me is how melodic he is and his arrangements are just unbelievable. It’s like at every turn I’m pleasantly surprised with something he does during each piece. The cats got groove.

I was less than 10 minutes into this when I realized that this is the most brilliant, most incredible video I have ever seen/heard EVER... And that's with still more than 50 minutes yet to go. Also want to share that a friend of mine is a very talented drummer, he played with some stars in Europe. Told me that many years ago in Spain, the owner of a famous football team, payed 200.000€ for a famous pop singer, of course that my friend just received some good but regular payment. All because of the daughter birthday of that owner. Was a private party. The singer was a pop star... And at least, he is a very good singer. Not this auto tune fake singers nowadays. Did u know, in Victorian times , classical guitarists were hired singularly(mainly). Or in small orchestra set ups. 4 pieces If you will, this was If royalty wanted to listen to music!! ... so. I'd hire him, imagine the price to have a private bassist just play stuff you yell at him😅 in honesty he's definitely an amazing musician!

Also want to share that a friend of mine is a very talented drummer, he played with some stars in Europe. Told me that many years ago in Spain, the owner of a famous football team, payed 200.000€ for a famous pop singer, of course that my friend just received some good but regular payment. All because of the daughter birthday of that owner. Was a private party. The singer was a pop star... And at least, he is a very good singer. Not this auto tune fake singers nowadays. @rucani: When I noticed the heart I received for my previous comment about this being the best video ever, I admit that I was briefly confused. This whole video--the song selection, the order in which the songs are presented, the way everything flows from one song to the next... Everything is so flawless, I was under the impression that this had been put together by Charles Berthoud and had always been intended to be something he meant to go together. Now, I realize that this is a collection of his work that you compiled. I have done my share of video editing and it's not anywhere near as easy as people might think. Have you ever noticed that one of the highest-paid people in a film production, one of the most important people responsible for the success of a film, is the editor? (I learned this many years ago when I was dating a lovely video editor named Loretta, but I digress.). So please allow me to make a special call out to you, @rucani, because the best video I have ever seen/heard since the beginning of time would not have existed had it not been for your brilliance as an editor. Thank you so much.
