Some good lessons to be learned from this one. They never got an MoT for it - history online seems to show they didn't fix the fuelling/emissions after all. So when you're flipping cars, do the mechanics and get the MoT first, _then_ worry about cosmetics.
Good to see an enjoyable Wheeler Dealers reboot and I believe it's even Paul Brackley from WD behind the scenes there. Well done! I had a bunch of AW11 1 MR2s back in the day (supercharged and NA) and the most common overfuelling problem was the cold start injector. Fix that and the problem goes away.

I'd also like to say that contrary to what is said in the video service items *are* easy to find - most mechancial everyday stuff is used on a European Toyota of some sort, whether its Starlet or Paseo or in some cases Corolla. Yes, there are some things that are unique to the Sera - interior and exterior cosmetics mostly.
I don't understand what's the thing with putting this on ebay before there's any work done on the car... Why not finish the car first and sell the final product? Imagine you find a grey car online and it's yellow once you come pick it up 😂
It's the same way wheeler dealers do it, so they have a buyer by the time they finish the project i assume. Then they don't have to wait around for ages after trying to flog it
I can't help looking at that amazing old panel van behind the lads. It may be an old Dodge - but what an amazing project car! A V8 transplant, air ride suspension, new wheels and tyres and clear coat over the rusty patina. Sadly way over budget but it would be the ultimate banger flip!
That was funny, in fairness it looks like the scene was filmed at the height of the lockdown, the businesss model is even funnier, they wouldn't be on the minimum wage at best !
These cars are so rare in the uk where do you get spare parts from . i bet there are not alot of specialists breakers here in the uk to go to . Getting body panels and interior trim i bet is really hard to source i do like these cars tho

The doors are a easy fix, just tint tops with limo black and tint the rest to legal requirements and the tune up is easy, its basically a corolla underneath

The car looked a bit flat after the wrap was done. I’m not a big fan of the color, but some Japanese and European cars had similar colors in the day. Definitely a challenge to sell a niche car.

I just got a bottle of the Demon carpet cleaner and it works fantastically well. I had a water mark/stain on one of the seats and it removed it completely with one application. I used it on an indoor carpet as well.

Ah, the Toyota Sera. My blasted wife has destroyed two of these! (and destroyed every other car she's owned, sigh) ...a real shame as they are such awesome little cars in spite of the bargain-basement running gear. Glad to see people fixing one up. Actually really nice to drive, if certainly not remotely quick, especially on long runs.

They sometimes sell them as projects when they've failed to get them up to par, the aim is to try to get them "ship shape" in 5 days, it's not skill that runs out--, it's time.
Always liked this show for light-hearted auto entertainment, but the glaring elephant in the room is the ongoing claim that "we put it 500 quid and need 1000 in return". How do 2 blokes spend 500, then work for 5 days, buy numerous parts, pay rent, and sell for 1000, and claim this is a 'business' ?? oh please....
there have been many episodes where they have sold a car they worked on all week for a net profit well under 1000 pounds; that doesn't support one man, let alone two plus a building.

However what happens in the real world is very different. Case in point, at the opposite end of the spectrum people can spend 1000's restoring or customizing a car yet get only a percentage of that outlay when selling.
A Toyota Sera there a couple for sale in Australia but in Australia you cannot buy a radiator for the Sera it must have been totally unique to the Sera but great video and l have seen will in another motoring show
I've had a Paseo radiator in mine with modified top mounts, others have done half width Honda Civic radiators for turbo conversions too, cars a metal, they can be modified.
@@ScuzzySera I only had a look out of a matter of interest and when l found out you couldn't buy a radiator in Australia l thought the radiator must be unique to the Sera as they are a JDM car from Japan and we do get a lot of grey imports from Japan and that includes everything from people movers to the ex
@lesklower7281 yeah the part number and mounting will be unique but there are solutions, gladly the Sera shares a number of parts with a few Toyota models that makes ownership easier, I've owned mine since 2005 in QLD :)
@@ScuzzySeral am glad by parts sharing with other Toyota's l own a 1997 Toyota Hilux l have no trouble getting parts for it at all not because they are common in Australia but there are many service parts that it shares with other vehicles and been a 1997 Hilux not much goes wrong only the age related parts that fail on many 26 year old vehicles
Why oh why do you photo and add the car to the internet before u finish the job. Its easy to inspect on any PC and check fine photo detail. What is wrong with putting on the market after 5 days, start the next project and hold the car until sold. Really like your series. Ivor

This was filmed in 2021, and even now in 2024, the Sera still hasn't passed an MOT! The last valid MOT ran out in 2016 😮

The cars been off the road since 2016... When it's mot test was in June..... Went for a retest in 2021 & still failed on emissions.

They have a 1.8 celica 7afe engine so then it maybe able to get a engine although most of them are bad by now

Most likely a 5EFE engine that are shared on a few platforms in Toyota same as the later starlet using the 4EFE
