These types of stoves are meant for cooking on, not having a bonfire. That's why so many people complain about warping and not lasting, you add just enough wood to generate the heat you need to boil water or cook. Not meant for having a large fire to get warm.

Apparently not, judging by the way they load it up to the point where she actually has to stand back to not set herself on fire.
If they do know then why are they making a video about how bad a thing is at something it is not designed for?

      Hi, you are absolutely correct.
Constantly adding wood is not what this stove and "OVEN" was designed for.
      I have one.
You can also prepare meals inside of the oven as well as on top.
Placing a few charcoals underneath the oven.. you can also use Sterno.. the so called ash collector fits inside of the oven as well as on top. No skillet?? Cook over easy egg on the ash collector with sausage or bacon too.
Add more accessories to cook or provide warmth as well.
To each his or her own 🤔

This is a perfect video on what you are not supposed to do with this stove. It should be on a solid surface and you only use a half dozen sticks to control the temperature for cooking. It's not technically a bonfire pit.

I just watched an unboxing of this stove. Hence your video popping up in my feed. The same leg on his stove was bent exactly the same. Thank you for the review. I have seen reviews of the smaller one, but this is the first use of the larger one I have seen. I am a homeless whistle-blower investigator & need to make large one-pot meals like peas & pasta, or pasta fagioli, and need a bigger stove for my 5.5 quart stock pot. It's heavy & good quality. I make a big pot over my fire pit, then break the pot down into 4 large sealed bowls & put them in my cooler. Which needs no ice in Vermont winters. Easier to just make up a whole pot & eat it in several meals that cooking everything every time I eat.
This looks absolutely perfect for me! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
I clean up after the parties & slobs at my park. College town.

I have two of these exact stoves. No issues. Love them. Some people will put a cookie sheet under them to help with ash. Only on a flat stable surface tho, or the stove will slide, and be a fire hazard.

  • @jleach

Nice video. Some people have suggested the two side handles can be folded up and inserted through the grill handles to hold the grill in place. Also, with the smaller stove version these vertical handles can keep a large pan off the top of the stove to provide better air flow. Haven't yet tried it myself, though....

    • @bobabooey4537
      @bobabooey4537 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Sounds good on paper and it will definitely prevent the grill from sliding completely off the top of the stove, but so not necessary, imo. Some people are always looking for ways to mod, or improve items and I believe this is an example. First.... A large pot or pan on the grill top doesn't hurt airflow at all, not in my experience... I mean, it has a door on the front that opens and is ventilated all around. That hasn't been an issue whatsoever for me. The handles - Flipping the handles up to hold the grill in place, like many have described, means you are now limited to a pot or pan only 6.5'' or less, because now the handles are sticking up and the distance between them is only 6.5'' (on the small version stove). That's a take away from what the stove is capable of doing. You take away from an even grill surface for anything larger because those handles are sticking up. Its not worth it, imo. The grill doesn't just slide off the top, but its not fixed anywhere to hold it in one solid place either. The grill itself has handles and they rest on the top frame. The framed mesh grill part is a slightly smaller dimension than the top opening of the stove. It sits with a little back n forth movement but doesn't just slide off.. You get the same back n forth movement when the handles are up holding the grill, if that makes sense lol. Keeping the handles down allows you to use an 8 or 10 inch pan no problem.

You should of not use the big piece of wood made the fire start slower can't get air under it until you burn it up then your fire starts burning better and you can shut the door now ass wouldn't come out as much if you put your stove on a flat surface you have it at a 45 degree angle yes ashes will fall out i would put a metal pan with slawell sides under it but solo has a sealed bottom i like it better but cast more and has gas fire effect with cleaner burn but the Redcamp makes a good camp bonfire and with the grill you can BBQ with it or catch a fish and cook it on there there good but it different than a Solo fire pit wow they have expeny prices on the big ones ? Solo Titan nice

Wow: "this is a lot lighter weight and a lot more compact" --> 5.7lbs (nearly 2600g)?? Not sure what you guys define as "lightweight", but...
    - my titanium wood stove weighs 6.7oz (192g).
    - my wood stove made of stainless steel weighs 15.6oz (442g).
    - even my chimney pipe wood stove weighs less than this at 4.01lbs (1820g).
The design of this stove is really cool with its door, grill net and ash plate... but I just don't see how the weight of this thing is anywhere near justifiable, even when looking at the smaller version - yet alone the even higher weight and absolutely LUDICROUS prices of some of the solo stoves that you mention... I will give you massive props however for taking care of the environment and bringing your own fuel, instead of littering the place and burning down an entire tree like the complete utter idiot(s) did before you.

You wasted soooo much wood. This box is made to use small sticks to cook your dinner or heat your coffee. It is not designed to cook a 4 course meal for a 100 man army.
