This is the guy that everybody wants on their team in a survival situation. He can make a secure shelter from anything, and as with all his other shelters, a perfect little stove for cooking and heating the shelter.
the way this chap just kicks back and keeps going is admirable. that is actually the way. found the spot had the vision and created the dream. and its an entertaining and informative video 10/10 sir.
I had to give it a three for the fact that without ventilation the fireplace would just act as a vacuum, and you probably wouldn’t wake up if you fell asleep in it, especially during a storm or in the snow. Looks cool, but that’s about it really.
@@benfrankie5184 theres air enough in that shelter. its not hermetically sealed, theres plenty of draught. the fire isnt exactly a furnace. theres a hole at the bottom (the door) it would provide ample oxygen. maybe in very very heavy snow all holes are sealed but i think its fine. Although its true im no expert.🤫

If they plan on staying close to home this would work great. With a few more items you can make it safe if nuke goes off. If you have a farm with 40 or more hector or acres you can build a root cellar with toilet and a sink. With enough room a family of five could survive for longer than one year.
Like most fox holes best way to avoid this is have a section inside dug slightly deeper then the rest of the floor, gives the water a spot to go that isn’t right under you, then having some logs inside to keep you off the soil and your mint

Why not wrap some birch bark about the same size around the small vent tube. *You might have a problem in there with Carbon Monoxide… it’s heavier than air, and builds up in confined spaces. Can be deadly.☠️

Not sure what the wood was but very heavy ! The only thing he needed was a poncho liner which is Light weight, very compact, but will keep you very warm! Survived two years in the jungle with one when I was freezing my ass off in the dry season in a place called Vietnam.
My step-grandpa was a green beret I believe he had to survive in the jungle by himself for a long time. He ended up dying from some disease he got there awhile ago
I have watched other shelters being made with natural resources. This was the first time that I ever saw it done with such a minimalist amount of more newer and industrial materials. This was very cool. GREAT JOB!
I wish we had a forest like this in my part of Sweden.. We only have pine forests and mixed forest. Full of spiders and mosquitos. The ground is full of roots, bugs and ants. Also full of germans, danes, dutchies every summer.
Snakes and scorpions and spiders typically try to stay away from you if you’re living in it. Though they can become an issue, if you’re surviving on the land, that’s the least of your problems

Nice workmanship, it's just a pity that it doesn't protect against rain. Fix the roof, make drains so that water doesn't flow inside and everything is fine.
@@aubreybangoura8736 A dug out only works when you have good draining. On a slope, etc. This hole will get water seeping in through the soil when it rains,a nd it has nowhere to go.
fantastic new build - again very hard labour but so rewarding. I was surprised the 3 beams hold the huge heavy logs on top, but I guess you know what you are doing. If you had an option to reinforce those 3 beams to nmaybe 6, you could cover the whole logs with 30cm sand on top and you'd have an (almost) perfect nuclear shelter! Spiders!!!! Big old wolf spiders hiding in the ground even in March. During summer, all kinds of arachnids. We slept in an army mosquito tent recently, that was awesome. It’s just like sleeping outside, seeing stars but not being pestered by mosquitos or being afraid of spiders .
great job. just a bit scary regarding carbonmonoxide (CO). All earth holes have this problem, if your fire is not burning 100% correct, there is noway the CO can escape. As it is heavier than air, normaly some holes in the floor are sufficient so it can "flow" outside. But in earth holes it will accumulate and finally drown the occupant.
Actually co is lighter than air and floats up. He needs ventilation above him for safety. Facts matter no matter what any liberal or hormonal woman might say

Those logs in the roof look pretty heavy. I hope the much thinner cross members are up to the task of supporting that weight. But it is a really nice structure.

Digging the initial hole with a small shovel and a hatchet looked brutal. If you can get past that, the rest is ok

Spiders!!!! Big old wolf spiders hiding in the ground even in March. During summer, all kinds of arachnids. We slept in an army mosquito tent recently, that was awesome. It’s just like sleeping outside, seeing stars but not being pestered by mosquitos or being afraid of spiders .

great job. just a bit scary regarding carbonmonoxide (CO). All earth holes have this problem, if your fire is not burning 100% correct, there is noway the CO can escape. As it is heavier than air, normaly some holes in the floor are sufficient so it can "flow" outside. But in earth holes it will accumulate and finally drown the occupant.
Actually co is lighter than air and floats up. He needs ventilation above him for safety. Facts matter no matter what any liberal or hormonal woman might say
