"She was unbearable to see, yet I forced myself to watch her. She would be hideous to most, beastly and wolf-like, and only faintly human. She caressed my face like she always did, telling me to share in her Rite of Blood, made from the tortured men and women of Durenwol. She told me that her child would be the perfect vessel for the Great One, that we could raise a God. I do not know whether this madness came as a result of her transformation, or before it. I'm sorry my beloved, but I couldn't let you harm these innocent people for the sake of your dark ritual. Cécile, our love lasted so long, even when you thought I was lost to you forever, I still love you now. Your blood is on my hands, and whether I want to or not, soon my only child's will be as well. Forgive me, perhaps now that you are in the Lord's Grace, you see the truth of your actions." ~ Hunter's Journal.
IMO this is ur best piece. Im a amateur musician myself and by far this is the most inspiring music i heard from u. The main melody is very catchy and u really did a good job not overusing it. The theme flow develops and varies hence avoids the "repeatitiveness" in most epic music. The “breath” before the choir joins is GODLIKE, and the contents following is just beyond. Brass, Choir, Organ, Violin staccato, pushed the music to climax. i feel like worth buying the entire album for just this track.
Night of the Hunt: Rite of Blood is out now! Grab it on Bandcamp for £5 (just under $7) alexroe.bandcamp.com/album/night-of-the-hunt-rite-of-blood , coming soon to other stores (I'll confirm when it goes live on a store as I post more songs here throughout the week, also will notify on my Facebook and Twitter so follow those for quicker updates! facebook.com/AlexRoeTaKa & twitter.com/RoeTaKa). The album has 8 tracks and is just over 37 minutes, I kind of wanted to shoot for 10 but I was feeling pretty happy with what is here and felt satisfied -- I'd already made more than I intended in the first place. I needed the extra time in the past week to do that bit extra so I didn't submit to other online stores until Friday, I'm not sure if they process over the weekend so I anticipate it'll be on stores in a couple of days and iTunes might be the end of the week or start of next. I'm really sorry if you intended to listen anywhere but Bandcamp, hopefully that wait isn't too long. Sadly there was no Fromsoft or Bloodborne news today at the Paris Games Week but this album will have your Bloodborne fix covered! Really hope you guys enjoy it!
Me throughout the years, listening to Alex Roe's music: Holy F***, Borne in Blood is great! Your best album yet! Oh wait, I meant Darksi- no, Night of the Hun- No, Darksign II- No, Rite of Blood! Rite of Blood is the best! Alex, when is your ability going to plateau? Or are you on some kind of perpetual ascension of musical talent?
When I get bored probably haha. There's always more to experience and learn from, I don't know what the pinnacle of my sound is but I'll always be trying to obtain it.
I'm french, I will not be able to found the words to really express what i feel when I listen to your music. This work touches me in the deepest part of my heart. Thank you.
(Reiterating my comment) Rite of Blood has such a special sound, it reminds me of Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath. Like a big fantasy epic, which is something very different for Bloodborne. It's very powerful. I think it would be better if it was it was all it's own game entirely. I've always longed for a Kadath-inspired game. It was unlike Lovecraft to make a fantasy epic. It is unlike Bloodborne to have that fantasy epic feel. Bloodborne usually has a sinister gothic tone. This, for me, really explores the aspect of Bloodborne we never had - an epic style story within a grand dream world. And really a side of Lovecraft that should be explored more often. Sorry if I'm reading into it, but this really did it for me. I never really wanted to fork in a few bucks to buy music, but this one is just fantastic.
With the last album I remember a comment that basically said that the album didn't feel scary in some ways that Bloodborne does. When I went into this album I thought that it might be something I could correct but when I tried to write songs that were like the westerns composers (Ryan Amon, Cris Velasco and Michael Wandmacher) - of which over half the soundtrack is made by - I felt like it wasn't me, that it wasn't music I was meant to do. I'm far more drawn to the eastern composers (Yuka Kitamura, Tsukasa Saitoh and Nobuyoshi Suzuki) who I think bring out the fantasy of it more. If I listen to Bloodborne, I am drawn immediately to the eastern composers. I had hoped that I merged the two in different ways across both albums, but very much wanted to make it my own thing. The reaction to 'Dance of the Blood-Drunk' very much reinforced that doing my own ideas was very welcome to fans of the game. Like you said it would be better if it was its own game, Bloodborne is 100% the inspiration but the end goal is to make it my own creation. If someone came to me and said "Were making a game that is inspired by Bloodborne and Castlevania" I feel like that is a game I absolutely must compose for. Thanks for the thoughts and also purchasing the album! It really means a lot. I hope you continue to enjoy it :)
You've practically already created a fantasy world, it is just a different medium of doing so. Your music really inspires me. I am actually in the position to get into game development considering my current connections, but I think the industry is competitive and nobody will really ever take you seriously, so I am very wary when going about that topic - people just don't respect programmers like me. I want to focus on pursuing a bunch of different fields, because I need the knowledge to be able to take it beyond making money to survive, into something I can be passionate about and have more control over. This makes me want to learn more about making music, personally. Outside of financial stability, there is always something about stuff like this that internally inspires me to make something, something that is actually meaningful. It is never about the money. Just the satisfaction of doing it.
I lovee it, but good God does this kinda music progression get me all jittery when I'm trying to dodge and hit bosses. I lost to the Living Failures a buch cuz the music would get my heart racing as it built up.
If Bloodborne 2 ever comes out, I'd write a hand-written letter to FromSoftware and tell them to add your music...even though i can't, but you get the point. Your work is spectacularly amazing. Keep up the good work, man. Hello from Vietnam
After a few days listening this song, I realised how especial it is. It's beautiful, and epic. The story it tells is gorgeous, although you see nothing but the wallpaper. I really enjoy it, so I must say thank you. Congratulations, this song is an achievement for you. Feel proud of yourself, because this song is some of the best you've done. Greetings from Spain :D
As always yuor work is stunningly beautiful. I am using your work as inspiration, there will certainly be a Cecile Grosvenor in my next dnd campaign. Keep up the good work, the other songs released as of yet are also very good.
In Bloodborne, we can visit the Chalice Dungeons. Deep within, we find the corpses of knights who tried to battle against the beasts but were ill equipped to withstand their speed and strength. What if Cecile is no hunter or beast, but the lone knight who ventured into the Chalices and returned not just alive, but drenched in beast blood? I believe this battle would be representative of how different Dark Souls and Bloodborne are; Cecile would fight desperately, putting all of their strength into every swing of their blade like the Chosen Undead, Bearer of the Curse, and Unkindled do. This wouldn’t just be Cecile versus the hunter. It would be Dark Souls versus Bloodborne.
Robbiematronic Not only can I see this perfectly, I have even more to add to it. Imagine it like one of the Boss Hunter fights. You enter the back garden of the Grosvnor manor, and there she is, in full beautiful knight armor, standing at the edge of a fountain, humming to herself. Then, a Cleric Beast leaps up upon the garden wall and howls, and attempts to bear down upon Cécile, but instead in a single stroke of her blade the beast is cleaved in two. I see her fight being even more Dark Souls than you think. Instead of quick sidesteps or dashes, she would roll. Instead of a pistol and trick weapon, she would tote a shield and holy sword. Instead of blood and arcane, she would fight with divine light and thunder. Then, when she hits Phase 2 at 2:40 she swings wildly with her sword, cleaving many large marks into the very air, and begins to fight far more aggressively, perhaps parts of her armor even igniting. One final hurrah of a time long since gone. And yes, in my head Cécile is a woman. Better yet even, since it is assumed due to the etymology of her name that she would be blind, she could hum during the entire fight. Not just to “see” you like echolocation, but to keep herself sane and calm even despite all the darkness and blood that surround her. Forgive my ranting, just, love this track and had to say something.
Let's add to this. She starts by using a straight sword, then switches to a spear, and in the final phase uses an axe. She combos miracles with the sword, sorceries with the spear, and pyromancies with the axe.
Shadow Dragon Comms. I’m gonna add to this more. You mentioned her being blind? She can work like the Old Hero, except enhanced. She hums to herself as a form of echolocation, listens for your footsteps against the tiles in the courtyard, and also smells the stench of blood on you. And the more of her blood you spill, the easier she can track you. It’d be a boss fight where the amount of damage you inflict per strike has genuine meaning because the more you hit her, the easier it is for her to pinpoint where you are and kick your ass. She could potentially be up there with False King Allant, Sir Alonne, Knight Artorias, Ludwig, Lady Maria, and Slave Knight Gael as one of the best bosses in soulsborne history.
Very Very happy to see you're continuing this pursuit and development. First thing I'll be doing on my next payslip is buying your entire discography thus far. You never cease to amaze me with the passion and love you pour into these songs my friend. Keep up the great work!
Both this and the first album are wonderful, amazing even. But I must sadly say the mixing is a bit off. The choirs should be louder, the ends should be dialed back a bit for a bit more stable low-mid body. That's what made the BB soundtrack so special, if you compare the mixing 1:1.
I love your work so much !!! every time you amaze me !! really thank you !! Bloodborne will always be my favorite game so I'm glad I found your channel !aaaa
How the hell is this better than Bloodborne and dark souls ost combined. Thank you for the raw soul in this track, you NEED to be hired for actual souls series soundtracks!
The beginning sounds like The Profaned Vanguard - or rather its evil brother who stabs people with knives. The stage shift is somewhat similar to Lady Maria's, and the way music gets calmer and then reignites in 4:15 - 4:24 sounds close to Burnt Ivory King?.. Anyone else gets the same feelings? The song's beautiful, to say the least. One of my favourites, along with the aforementioned PV.
Great stuff as always, m8. ...bit of an odd comparison, but the piano bits kind of remind me of Majora's Mask, almost? Specifically, some of Theophany's remixes, Time's End comes to mind. I think the sound suits Bloodborne well.

Best track Alex Roe has crafted hands down, no contest.
