In the first game, I swear the AI was a bit smarter than people realize. I've found the technique of ONLY attacking cannibals that attack you is a great way to make the vast majority of them non-hostile. Only ranged ones and crazies continue to try their luck.
Not only that, a lot of cannibals also acted like they were testing you. They'd run up into your face, stop, then back off if you didn't do anything. EndNight wanted to make it seem like killing was hard, the trailer showing a downed and injured cannibal and needing to crush its skull repeatedly with a rock. Most of us gamers are bloodthirsty and don't care or even relish killing them. Having mutual fear and respect though was much more interesting, and wish we had more options, such as different tribes working with or against each other and the player. The games synopsis say you use the cannibals against each other, but the most is skinnies eating downed cannibals alive or accidental friendly fire rewarded with a bitch slap "Watch yourself" from the one they hit.
@@Eric4bz I've had a bigger enemy in sons of the forest "square up" to me, he's slowly walk up to me and then stand there waiting yelling in my face, when I backed up he followed me for a bit before leaving
That was a secret in the program they never told anyone about. It got discovered like 2 or 3 years after release. At least that's when the first videos went out on TH-cam. I'm fairly certain it was confirmed to be a secret feature where if you are as passive as possible, excluding the dirty cannibals and any with discolored skin originally, you could pacify them. Not the mutants though. I don't think it was ever possible to pacify them and eventually they show up and attack and attacking them can aggro cannibals and ruin it
For the people that want a short answer, Effigies will work for the most part. Although, certain types of enemies like the Heavy Kicker guys or the Gold masked can run past the effigies and hit you a bit before they start to run away. Effigies won’t affect mutants though but they can slow them down if you’ve got plenty effigies like the creator did. For the most part, Effigies are useful except for mutants.
I would love to go on a display competition with the cannibals, like being able to display the carcasses of the dead cannibals by splaying their remains by Gorey means, id love for the ability to collect their masks and putting them up on a wind chime, or by hanging them off of built walls or trees, in a specific design to split apart cannibal from player, I get jealous because the cannibals can show up at your camp and place down those mutated finger heads or a torso with a head in it, just something I'd love to be expanded on in the future of this game.
The surprisingly large accumulation of unique words in one sentence at the timestamp 0:40 caught me off-guard very well. Please keep up the overly complicated Sentence structure to amuse me again
I dont build effigies to scare the cannibals, I build them to let them know they arent as crazy as they think (I built a custom effigy with the max amount of limbs using arms only pointing up and called it "prayer for mercy")
Nice work here 😀 and nicely edited and entertaining video. I’ve only played SotF since 1.0 released and I tried a head on a stick once and it was hard to tell how effective it was since the muddies behavior is so skittish. If you wanted to make another video I’d say the next tests should involve using different types and amounts of effigies and see how response differs among just the cannibals since they don’t work at all on mutants, demons
you got something here my man. as an avid SOTF content viewer I can say your work could stand up with other big names in this niche. Your delivery is engaging and edits are soild. Only recomendation is to run/upload your audio through a AI enhancement software. Either that or pic up a better microphone and or adjust your audio levels on current mic.
Thanks! Really appreciate the feedback, I do agree with your comments on the audio. I've been unhappy with it for a bit and have been looking to upgrade my mic in order to present a better finished product. Take care and let's keep our fingers crossed for a big Patch 07 from Endnight today
I decided to craft a delicious stew made of cannibal body parts, since making that stew i’ve noticed a large pack of cannibals around my base, so idk if that worked 👍

i'm guessing there is some sort of fear meter for the enemies that are affected which fills overtime while they're in range of the effigies. and perhaps the effect stacks too.
in the previous forest game, you could burn the effigies, people believed it increased their effect, but I never got around to finding out whether it did or not
Lol, we had that in the first forest. It was 2 (or 3?) fused female cannibals that had one giant vag due to 6 fused legs and pelvises. Mutant babies came out of her. Her name among the dev team was "Virginia." I'm sad that her and Armsy didn't come back for this game (unless you choose the ending where you decide to stay on the island).

Like the big ones for the walls? Bring Kalvin and a sled with you and then go for a hike. Every so often, stop and tell him to gather them and store them in the sled, and he'll pull them out of nowhere. lol
I found the best way to get rocks and stones was to take Kalvin out on a hike/hunt with your sled and then every so often, stop and tell him to gather said materials. I find that sometimes he'll actually spawn in the ones he's found. Also, if you happened to save in a spot where there is lots, you could reload your save and the rocks will respawn.

Effigies are a decent warning.
Spikes are a decent deterrent.
Spikes say "I will kill your friends."
Effigies say "I _have_ killed your friends."
The amount of body parts also increases its effects

I didn't even consider that it would scare them. I put mine up as an FU to the enemies.
