As a community we need to push for more uses for the shovel like digging a moat or traps. If they can pull it off this would be the greatest survival game of all time
I built a small house surrounded by a wall with one gate. Felt like home until a bunch of babies spawned inside the walled area. Haven't played it since, just totally defeated the purpose of building a defensive place. And it was a tiny little place so can't blame it on the walls not rendering
sounds like a glitch/bug to me. Or maybe you didnt light it out (if that even matters in that game) but i had never troubles

Bro I use a mod system to go into builder mode and I haven't made anything as big as these structures. You spending so much time and effort is amazing and I truly hope you are rewarded for the hard work. So much time put into these builds.
What is the builder mode?

Awesome! Makes me want to build a similar fort. I would have cleared out the cannibal tents and set up a bunch of tarp tents instead but I understand wanting to incorporate the unique features of the terrain.
For your base corners you can stack 3 pieces of firewood side by side to get a similar appearance of the 45 degree wood angle and place sticks on em
Nice build, my current plan is putting up ziplines all around the island about 3/4 done, putting ziplines all across the top of the ice mountain was painful but worth it
I'd really like to have some chimneys and fire places as an option for building, it'd just look so cool in the middle of the forrest with smoke coming out.

Totally! I tried too make one out of wood and a hole in the roof. Worked fine until rain or snow put it out lol
Nice! I like the way you did the walls. I personally would have made an overhang over the front of the walls so that I could add machicolations!

Use a stick fence on top of the walkway along the wall
I want to see some of these builds in action with cannibals attacking the lake builds seem like an obvious benefit. I'm hoping Endnight at some point allows for terrain editing with the shovel, especially if you could draw blueprints for trenches and get Kelvin to start digging 😅
@@shawnofdadead1805 I mean they might have that in store, they have a shovel and already to allow us to dig. And sometimes when you place a log on a slope the terrain matches with it

I think utilizing 3/4 logs for the rampart supports would lower them behind the defensive walls enough to give it the protected appearance you were looking for.
This is just amazing, a dream come true (that I will a 100% never build myself

Very nice work! I just started playing after 1.0 and my first game I got killed over and over and so started a new game by the ocean and built a much smaller version of what you made with a log cabin inside as its an enormous help to have a safe base so when 4 or 5 guys show up you can pick them off with arrows and stay safe, and also helps as need an indoor stick bed to get fully rested when sleep
this is insane my friend, wish I had a group to rebuild this with in game. Been solo lol

Love watching the building vids, would absolutely love to see somebody build an entire village with different structures for storage equipment and materials and structures to hold a greenhouse and housing the whole thing.
I know it would be a massive thing with multiple episodes, but would really look forward to that .🎉
at 9:24 it seems you can add vertical logs to the corners where you have the posts going overtop the wall. You could add quarter posts to the top and then connect them with full posts horizontally to make a barrier so people don't fall over the top.
I thought about that, but then theres no point in spiking the walls because the cannibals can jump up

0:55 OMG!!! I have never seen this Roman style fort before... But that is exactly my standard build in SOTF. Well the perimeter wall and towers in the corners anyway.
I had the same bug on one of my games! My friends didn't believe me when I told them about it. It was the most annoying thing finding all of the trees would vanish as I got closer

The building is so addictive haha. Unfortunately the bases will feel ultimately empty because there is nothing to done once the building is complete but yeah, I can go on and on and on forever haha

i just wish that this game would actually give you a reason to actually build and maintain these amazing bases.
unlike any other survival game i know, theres little encouragement or reason to do this here.
all you need is 3 sticks and your trusty tarp and you are good.
you may sleep that way anywhere, you can make fires and you find food and water along the way.
your actual objective is to find out the truth and then escape (or to stay and forget your old life for no apparent reason..).
not dissing the game here but the story versus what you can do feels very disconnected.
they should make sleeping a process where theres like a 15% chance you get ambushed by a few or a horde of cannibals or mutants and you dont know until you wake up and hear the sounds. if you're in a tent you just get hit awake and take massive damage and now you're in the dark surrounded. if you had a base you'll wake up and have a lot of time to fight back or flee or something. you could also add in factors like you cannot sleep within 10 minutes of saving. this would make using a tent a very unwise decision and a pain in the butt to use conveniently and would make the awesome building aspect actually matter, where you have to establish maybe 2-5 bases around the island to make sure you have something close enough when that sun starts going down.

I built a Fort Very similar to this!! Its massive and took forever.
if you had done the towers in a 4x4 space. you'd have been able to make stairs to each floor. would also add more space for stick holders, bookshelf for materials for small rocks and feathers (decoration wise )( etc.

Wouldn't stick fences work for the top walkway? Simple and easy to make and I think they would snap to the path.

Very cool defensive wall! I will have to try and make one of these. I would like to see how well it works against a horde of cannables & mutants.
We tried it in my defensive build guide, out of 200 cannibals who stress tested it, only one got over the wall, so pretty effective

I had that same weird bug, with trees in the distance vanishing. I just reloaded a save and it fixed it. I haven't had that happen again and wasn't sure what even triggered it. I also though couldn't interact with anything either, so maybe my issue was a variation or something.
I've had that happen, or my girlfriend has, she was interacting with objects and clicking a bunch while being attacked, then next thing you know she couldn't interact with anything lol. Hasn't happened since release though so hopefully it's fixed mostly
Since your comment is from 11 months ago when game was early in early access I’d bet that wouldn’t happen now that game is full release 1.0. You’re missing out on a great game if liked the first one
thze most savage part is, that you evicted a whole cannibal camp
Stairs are a PITA. Sometimes they need to be built in a specific order. The horizontal logs don't like the diagonal log at all. One of the tricks before the last update was to only place a couple of stairs then work on laying in the horizontal logs before placing in the rest of the steps. I gave up on them. I've started using rope bridges with half length logs for ramp stairs basically.
I did something very similar for my build. Mine looks like a child built it compared to your build 😂
I was walling off my first real house in SotF and thought the gate was a reinforced wall. I turned an entire side of my compound into gates before discovering the error.

Your building a Roman fort, but have you given any idea towards the Colonial-Era for Fortifications in the Canadian Interior? As wooden log forts were prevelent there as well and The Forest did feature a flintlock pistol.
its cool i will say the legs extending past the spike walls will get destroyed rather easily

Me and my friends tried multiplayers and Hard Difficulty for the first time, and we decided to build right on the ocean crash site.
Worst choice ever, but still managed to build a decent house.
Even though Red Cannibal will come here and destroy 15% of it every milisecond, and we barely had any food or water
We're just too lazy to move our home lol

its maybe not 100 accurate but it is still accurate in the sense of what little information we know of Roman fortresses. keep in mind theres no physical evidence of how a roman fortress would have looked like considered they werent built for the purpose to stay around. all th evidence we have are tools and descriptions. most are actually based of what we assume and not of what we have.

Looks absolutely great, but speaking from personal experience with my own similar fort, it has a couple of defensive issues:
1. The battlement arrow shield and log railing are more trouble than they're worth. Often, the railing on my rampart just got in the way of me being able to shoot cannibals. In order to get a clear shot to a cannibal at close distance, I'd need to jump up on top of the railing - with your arrow shield up there, though, you can't. Just leave the rampart "defenseless" - it doesn't need defenses anyway.
2. The ramps for the stick spikes is a cool idea, but you actually _don't_ want your stick spikes right up against your wall. When you're in a tower or on the rampart and an enemy is right up against your wall, you don't have a clear shot. Instead, the stick spikes should be placed at short distance from the wall, in sight of your ramparts and towers (like they are in your source picture). Enemies will impale themselves on the spikes causing them to stagger, which gives you time to finish them off with an arrow to the head. Alternatively, you could build your rampart outside the perimeter of your defensive wall (supported by diagonal support beams) and then cut small holes into the walkway every so often, giving you a way to shoot downwards at enemies attacking your wall. I haven't tried this strategy, so I don't know if cannibals would be able to jump up to the ramparts if they were out and over the defensive wall.

how much logs you are used? :D this is only possible in a creative mode to build this damn building ;D with cannibal mode you created one side of a wall and then you got some enemies much more
