man roger looks so happy to sing that old song he did so many times so many years back I dont care what people say about the superbowl and being too old and crap, this proves that these two still have it, they play better now then a lot of groups nowadays anyway (cough* black eyed peas Cough*)
WOW!! Pino Palladino is a great musician... and Zak, being an actual personal student of Keith Moon, is the BEST drummer to play this music after Moonie.
@TheKingBlues10 Actually, it originally came in on the second verse to mask the swear word.."why don't you all Ffff...ade away..." and became so much part of the song that it got exaggerated...
This is an impressive example of how a great rock group has developed their perhaps biggest success into an up-to-date crisp piece of musical artistry. @busteroo7: you are talking about one of the best bass players alive and if The Who and he decide to modify the bass solo it is for the benefit of the song. Why didn't you criticise the guitar solo as well?
moon en entwhistle are missing and that influence the sounds of the version very much , also rogers performance isn't the same anymore, and the backings of pete are chanced, he pronounce generation in a diffirent way as he did in the sixties
@MrModDog I agree with some of this, but I, being a bassist in the tradition of both Entwhistle and Jones, think it's wrong to say Entwhistle was better than Jones. Both were masters of the instrument and Jones is widely viewed as a genius multi-instrumentalist. He plays organ, piano, mandolin, guitar, steel guitar, etc. Entwhistle played horn, banjo etc. Both were excellent instrumentalists and thus I would say equals.
NIce. Pino Palladino doesn't try to replicate Entwhistle's solo (even though it would've been appropriate here), but put his own spin on a f-f-freakin' great solo. He knows better than to go there. That's the mark of a great bassist.
It makes me sad, because Pino Palladino is a fantastic bassist, but John was so unique ... and there was always such attitude in his playing. That being said, Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam showed Pino up when they covered The Real Me on the VH1 special.
The reason Roger stutters is to act as if he was on drugs. In the 60's during the mod period, pills were commonly taken to get a buzz. Part of the effect from this is really bad stuttering. He was imitating this as kind of rebelious act. The original song was recorded this way, so most people hear this song with the stuttering. I've heard this several times in documentaries.
They refused to play My generation for several years for that reason. They tought they were too old. They play it as a joke now. The Who is the most intense rock band from the British invasion. The Beatles were the gods The Stones were the Blues The Who were just loud and damn good at it. The Kinks were the indie kids
"I hope I die before I get old" C'mon, you got old some years ago... poor Keith didn't, and we miss him so much. Even that funny and typical joke about their age... they fuckin' rock!
I don't know about that. Jeff simply copied Entwhistles solo note for note. I wouldn't call that showing someone up. He did show more "attitude" than Pallidino though (which isn't hard to do). From a purely bass playing POV Pallidino is better.
you people who say, "they arent the same" "The band is different without the others (those who are dead)" "theyre Old " etc etc etc are just so friggen stupid. Obviously they aint gonna be the same. OBVIOUSLY! But here they are, kicking arse big time. What more do you want? If you cant dig it, just go and listen to .... well.... something crap instead.
keith moon's drumming ignited the who zak is good but too laid back the excitement of the who was that they always seemed as if they would come apart at the seams.
I still think the who sixties versions have more soul and more power. Oasis had to add an extra guitar and keyborads to come any way near the powerforce of the original four of the who! Gallagher is not townsend on guitar for sure!
This might be a really stupid question to all Who no#1 fans but is he meant to stutter and why? Please answear back because I've heard this song somewhere where he doesn't stutter :/
Very good points! Greenday version sucked.. Oasis man.. can't even solo.. though even Pino doesn't solo like Entwhistle, I love that every single clip of him playing My Generation, we plays a new serious of solos each time.
@MrModDog haha no wtf lol my friend took advantage of me going to get drinks to troll on my acount lol he likes doing it for some reason, But i will still give my opinion i prefer the guitar of led zeppelin Jimmy Page is one of my all time favourite player true singers voice of led zep annoys me some lyrics are cool like stairway and immigrant song true the who better bassist better lyrics the who side but i prefer led zep i enjoy more their songs overall but i also dig the who very much
Pino Palladino is a great bass player but whenever I see him it seems he treats every gig as a Job. He lacks fire. Entwhistle brought excitement to the Who that Palladino just doesn't have.
The music played in the second part is taken from a song called "Cry if You Want" on the "It's Hard" album.
That is heavy as f**k!!! Love it. 🤘🏻
Hope I live till before I die!
Townshend is beast. I hope they make a new album for my generation.
I love it...Pete loses his pick in a monumental windmill, so he slaps that goddamn guitar!
That's the Who!
Great version .......nice job !
@MrModDog
Zeppelin and Who are both fantastic bands
Over and Out!
man roger looks so happy to sing that old song he did so many times so many years back
I dont care what people say about the superbowl and being too old and crap, this proves that these two still have it, they play better now then a lot of groups nowadays anyway (cough* black eyed peas Cough*)
Mr Pino Palladino on bass as well.
What a player.
Loved it. From beginning to the end.
w00t, love hearing them as old folks
@MrModDog
Thanks for explaining this...I've been wondering ...for years...thanks!
@MrModDog Thanks you so much :D
Roger Daltrey, how the hell can one man be so incredibly beautiful?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
thank you for posting
1.45 Funny how you can recognize Liam Gallagher even from the back, just by the way he nodds his head to the music
not Liam.
WOW!! Pino Palladino is a great musician... and Zak, being an actual personal student of Keith Moon, is the BEST drummer to play this music after Moonie.
maestrazosss los the who
Fuck i love Townshend's old man glasses, embrace it!
quality solo!
@TheKingBlues10 Actually, it originally came in on the second verse to mask the swear word.."why don't you all Ffff...ade away..." and became so much part of the song that it got exaggerated...
@Hannover1980 spot on there!
did this fella play with paul young in the 80's(fretless)
This is an impressive example of how a great rock group has developed their perhaps biggest success into an up-to-date crisp piece of musical artistry.
@busteroo7: you are talking about one of the best bass players alive and if The Who and he decide to modify the bass solo it is for the benefit of the song. Why didn't you criticise the guitar solo as well?
@patnamuzikman yesss, it's about 10 years he plays whith them...
moon en entwhistle are missing and that influence the sounds of the version very much , also rogers performance isn't the same anymore, and the backings of pete are chanced, he pronounce generation in a diffirent way as he did in the sixties
Pete's got the perfect guitar sound for playing rhythm guitar
@MrModDog I agree with some of this, but I, being a bassist in the tradition of both Entwhistle and Jones, think it's wrong to say Entwhistle was better than Jones. Both were masters of the instrument and Jones is widely viewed as a genius multi-instrumentalist. What a great band still, but the crowd is dead, if i was there I would be going crazy
Who will be the last one standing? These guys are good,
So true... That bass solo in the begining was AWESOME!!! He only missed like, one note.
Pino's playing was superb
Here them shoutin whooooo at d end lol lengendary
And Pete's pick goes flying during that windmill at 4:08
NIce. Pino Palladino doesn't try to replicate Entwhistle's solo (even though it would've been appropriate here), but put his own spin on a f-f-freakin' great solo. He knows better than to go there. That's the mark of a great bassist.

They play it as a joke now.
The Who is the most intense rock band from the British invasion.
The Beatles were the gods
The Stones were the Blues
The Who were just loud and damn good at it.
The Kinks were the indie kids
"I hope I die before I get old"
C'mon, you got old some years ago... poor Keith didn't, and we miss him so much. Even that funny and typical joke about their age... they fuckin' rock!
Pete is next to god. Period.
i like the bass drum skins groovy
Townshend is fucking ripping with the senior shades
@gavbag1234 yes, but Entwistle's bass lines shouldn't be play with Flatwounds!!
is it just me or are they jamming out the second half, improvising, not just pete.
yeah the stutter makes this song!
@coltom Phillips or Townshend?
"I hope I die before I get old"
nice.... but missing Sir Entwhistle, and Sir. Moon.
Roger sounds great
is that zak starkey on drums?ringo stars son and ex drummer for oasis
barry paulin 9 years to late. But yes
pino is more than capable.should he try to dominate this short set.
I don't know about that. Jeff simply copied Entwhistles solo note for note. I wouldn't call that showing someone up. He did show more "attitude" than Pallidino though (which isn't hard to do). From a purely bass playing POV Pallidino is better.
yeah Keith knew what was up.
Head & shoulders better than any other band.
how can two 60 year olds, blow away the youth
of today ? easy...The Who are in another league.
I wanted to cry when I heard Pino's bass solo. I suppose it's technically very good, but....
I always thought the stutter was to make people think he was about to swear
Skip to 0:45 for The Who.
jazzy palladino!
That would be weird... but probably awesome!
you people who say, "they arent the same" "The band is different without the others (those who are dead)" "theyre Old " etc etc etc are just so friggen stupid. Obviously they aint gonna be the same. OBVIOUSLY! But here they are, kicking arse big time. What more do you want? If you cant dig it, just go and listen to .... well.... something crap instead.
keith moon's drumming ignited the who
zak is good but too laid back
the excitement of the who was that they always seemed as if they would come apart at the seams.
"I hope I die before I get old." I sort of laughed really hard at that.
yes it must be pino palladino =)
It doesn't seem the same when they play this song and they don't smash their instruments at the end...
They are just getting old.
But i must say, the drums and especially the bass (solo) can NEVER compete with keith moon & john entwistle!
I still think the who sixties versions have more soul and more power. Oasis had to add an extra guitar and keyborads to come any way near the powerforce of the original four of the who! Gallagher is not townsend on guitar for sure!
haha, good old Pete and his shades!
TURN UP THE TREBLE, PINO.
00:02 - 00:44 che guevara on guitar
very old school this version by the who, but i prefer it covered by oasis then the original
@patnamuzikman fuck yeah!
@billodditty and his dads ringo starr
This might be a really stupid question to all Who no#1 fans but is he meant to stutter and why? Please answear back because I've heard this song somewhere where he doesn't stutter :/
wait is that Mel Blanc?
And i'm sure noel gallagher and liam would agree!
oete still got the shit
i like the way this drummer just knows hes not keith moon so doesnt bother trying to be
Who's this guy on bass? Not bad, but not a replacement for Entwistle...
2:34 best change!!
lol
will they be able to play it in their sixties - i doubt it! and the original who version blows oasis to smithereens!!
BECAUSE THEYRE ARLEADY OLD only Keith died before he got old
Please zombie Keith and zombie John come back!!!
nobody is capable of being close to thunderfingers.
we need john entwhistle. sigh
not a bad CV.
Very good points! Greenday version sucked.. Oasis man.. can't even solo.. though even Pino doesn't solo like Entwhistle, I love that every single clip of him playing My Generation, we plays a new serious of solos each time.
@DonJulio18 hehe well obiviously they will never get old...you know in a old fart kind a way :D
1:10
no sh**.......and then just slaps his way through a few bars, whilst he strolls over and grips another from the mic boom arm......Fckn ayyyyyye.
calm down
Who beats Zeppelin anyday!
@MrModDog haha no wtf lol my friend took advantage of me going to get drinks to troll on my acount lol he likes doing it for some reason, But i will still give my opinion i prefer the guitar of led zeppelin Jimmy Page is one of my all time favourite player true singers voice of led zep annoys me some lyrics are cool like stairway and immigrant song true the who better bassist better lyrics the who side but i prefer led zep i enjoy more their songs overall but i also dig the who very much
lol well spotted
People need to realise when its time to call a day..
I love the Who to pieces but ...I can't watch.
Please Zak Starkey.Just stop hitting the cymbal for one fuckin second
+Richard Cejer He is just doing what Moon done
Pino Palladino is a great bass player but whenever I see him it seems he treats every gig as a Job. He lacks fire. Entwhistle brought excitement to the Who that Palladino just doesn't have.
youve gotta be honest great band, but theyve lost it now they aint got keith and john.
the bass solo of pino is a crap compared with solos That played john entwistle live with the who
kind of shit with out keith moon
What at? Chewing gum? mouth opening?
Pete an Roger play legendary, Zak does it so right.... but the Bass really sucks, so awful! Sorry man, that Band deserves a better Bassist!
