So teh next time you guys came to Phoenix, I "DIDN~T get fooled again" and stayed home , enjoyed listening to you guys on the internet recorded in some other city, Saved over $600 and didn`t have to fight traffic. 13 would have been a unlucky number anyway. Oh, My daughter was 23 at teh time, and she has sure been introduced to The Who all her life with her old man cranking them up on his 60`s stero and huge speakers, She said she got off more at home rocking out with dad but still enjoyed the show , and watching dad rock out, admittedly it was not"" the best I ever haaaaaaaaadddddddd!!!!"""No no.I still love you Rog and Pete, Keep it up dudes, and RIP John and Keith, your replacement are great , but they will never be either of you two. Yea I`m old but who is Noel Gallagher ?
Remember a lovely Townsend story; on the last tour before Entwistle died, they were soundchecking (Miami or somewhere). These guys had already been playing together for about 400 years, so you'd think they'd know what moves each was likely to make. Entwistle did something so completely outrageous and unexpectedly amazing on the bass that the whole band apparently stopped dead, and Townsend said 'what the FUCK was that??', to which Entwistle just grinned.
Not to take away from your story, but great musicians do that to each other all the time. Charlie Watts was famous for just changing the timing in the middle of songs just to mess with the other guys. It was always subtle enough not to ruin the song for the fans, just enough to keep the other band members on their toes.
@@glenchapman3899 Charlie and mick Taylor were the best musicians to have played with the stones, Jagger and Richards are seated on the table of the songwriting virtuosos but were lucky to have great people to help them transform their ideas into sound
What can I say? I was there. Immense. I have never liked Oasis or anything about them, but the sheer boyish pleasure from Noel's face of being where he is, and him stepping up to a fucking terrifying job, earns HUGE respect! I thought The Who were old when they did this lol....only in their 50s then....... and Zak really is fucking superb.
I never liked Oasis myself but applaud Noel who is perhaps a better guitarist than a songwriter, particularly as his songs were sung poorly by his brother, sliding around the notes for example.Mike Post turned Wonderwall Into a good song with his arrangement and vocal accuracy. I must say though Noel appeared grateful to be up there with The Who and he went up in my estimation after this performance. I've seen the Who at least 14 times and lost count and they have never failed to give value for money. Professional throughout their long lifespan and always in touch with their audience.
They should keep this lineup! Love it! Noel's Gibson gives this classic a nice edge against Pete's Fender Stratocaster. What I've always loved about THE WHO is that every guy in the band is unorthodox and yet it works better than almost any other band you care to name. Still the best live band I have ever seen.
The two guitars complement each other perfectly. Noel's thick Les Paul lead sound with Pete's thin Strat Rhythm style. I've seen other Who videos of live concerts & they're missing this element even when they have another guitarist on stage.
This is awesome! I’m 73 and grew up with this music. I love oasis. Their music is a homage to our generation. Noel will forget this Rock on roger and Pete!
The highlight of Noel's career, even by his own admission. He said; 'Pete Townsend, a bone fide rock guitar legend and me, the guitarist in Oasis only because I was the only one who could play guitar'. Respect Noel, that night you knew you was playing with the greatest Rock and Roll band in history. A fantastic rendition of the greatest rock song in history.
The Who are insects compared to The Beatles or Zeppelin. Even in 1968 they were still opening for the Doors in the USA. The Doors would have been opening for Zeppelin, no doubt
Noel looks like a kid that just got his childhood dream arrive on his doorstep, save for jamming with the Fab Four in heaven, this was as good as he could have ever hope for.
Mr. Entwistle's bass lines are absolutely fantastic. The way his notes blend into the song, fabulous. It's interesting to note that the lion's share of the left channel is his! Most of the guitars seem to be in the centre and right of it. Amazing musicians! 😎👍🏽
Well done to Noel for having the balls to do this , at least he got a taste of what it's like to play with the really big boys ! instead of ' our kid' ! The Who were very generous to him & Zak Starkey is brilliant !!
Noel got to play with one of the greatest musicians who ever lived: John Entwistle. It must've been a bit intimidating, because John never broke a sweat, he just stands there, the greatest, & silently says right, show us your stuff. Pete's my favourite, there'll never be another Pete, but you can't say enough about just how talented John was. And amazingly, Roger's voice is better now than it was in this video from 20 years ago. He's really worked hard to maintain his vocals, his passion for live performance is what keeps this band on the road.
I thought this was fantastic ! Noel is clearly a very talented player ! But I thought all of the Who made him so welcome and at ease ! This is a fantastic version of that song ! Probably my favourite
OMG! I have died and gone to heaven. This is my all time Who favourite and Noel Gallagher is just "the man" I am a big Oasis fan and Noels guitar style is just unique. If you close your eyes and just listen you instantly know its Noel on guitar. I watched a You Tube video of Oasis on Jools Holland singing Slade`s Come on feel the noise and it had that classic "Oasis" sound. Same as the video on here of Oasis singing Neil Young`s Hey Hey My My.
Clive Bindley - You’re right! I was getting confused as it was Zak. Make the Rock Royalty count just 1 then = The Who. I’m not discounting Noel. I actually think Definitely Maybe is one of greatest albums of all time. Morning Glory has 3 good songs on it........and then Noel has spent the past 25 years just regurgitating it all!
WOW, what a fabulous opportunity for Noel to be in a true Rock and Roll legendary rock band. Mr Starkey, what a drummer.... The WHO sounds like the same energetic band from the 60's & 70's
I love Datry's head nod to Noel with the line "take a bow to the new revolution"... , Noel's simplified guitar breaks serve the song very well, and young Mr Starkey is a hell of a drummer.
The Who is one of those bands that as a kid I felt instantly cool when I realized I loved this band as a 6th grader late 70s. I know my next statement is opinion: This quite possibly the greatest rock anthem ever. This song has it all! I realized that the Who in 71 with this album, Who’s next, totally evolved and transformed into this newer, cooler version of the Who. IDK, I can’t explain 😂 This by far is one of the coolest songs ever from start, middle, and end. Ty, Who for being so FN cool!
One thing I always loved about Noel is that he always respected where he came from,musically.Lennon/McCartney and Jagger/Richards were the same with Little Richard ,Chuck Berry and Gene Vincent in their day.
Don’t get why ppl are slagging Noel off. He does a great job. If he was as bad as these yanks says The Who wouldn’t have invited him. Noel has a enormous catalogue of great songs and well deserves it. End of story.
And your point? Roger was 56 here, at this point he was Rockin for almost 40 years. 15 years wasn't that long ago compared to how long he was in The Who.
+donaldrocks101103 And the scream is as awesome as it ever was. He s still in the Who and the Who are still touring. They pulled Detroit this year because Roger Daltry has meningitis. But they still knocked the daylights out of Glastonbury.,

this song still give me goosebumps . one of the best Rock & Roll songs of all time !!!
ONE of?? ANY of Petes "creations" is THEE greatest and goosebumps I get still today , is greater that teh first hit of crack I ever took. Those of you in the know , know what a bell ringer is , and I get one every time I listen to these guys... ' just do it" Not to one up anyone but I have seen them 12 times, Last time took my youngest daughter and had Great seats. It was Quadriphinia and MORE, the more was..." dont get fooled again", thats it.... , one song equals "and more"? sorry pete, I`m getting up in years too, I`m only 4 years behind ya , but for what i spent , I felt teh" and more" should have been a bit more.
Love the little nod, daltrey gives to Noel when singing about the new generation ✌️
FU*K ME!! had totally forgot how fu*king great this song is....FU*KING OUTSTANDING 😂
What an awesome story. Thanks for sharing!
@@glenchapman3899 Charlie and mick Taylor were the best musicians to have played with the stones, Jagger and Richards are seated on the table of the songwriting virtuosos but were lucky to have great people to help them transform their ideas into sound
@@ignaciocrescini5539 could not agree more with you. Pretty common to see that sort of chemistry in bands
I no he might need help we all no
Noel looks like a kid on Christmas morning!...Good for you ,matey!...we all have heroes.....
Jon Entwistle. The bass players bassist. One of the greatest rock musicians of all time.
I always get goosebumps when they sing the chorus together
and by the way - Zak is a fantastic drummer
Yes, the legendary Ox, John Entwistle, best bassist in history, who would die the next year.
Man what an honour for Noel to be on that stage with one of the greatest bands of alltime.
He waa Oasis mate
I’m an Oasis superfan, but all I could notice here was the Ox’s thunderous bass. Absolute legend!
Noel acquits himself with honour, Zac is awesome and the song remains the same: It's Aug1st. 2020 and it's more relevant than ever!
Greatest rock band ever
What can I say? I was there. Immense. I have never liked Oasis or anything about them, but the sheer boyish pleasure from Noel's face of being where he is, and him stepping up to a fucking terrifying job, earns HUGE respect! I thought The Who were old when they did this lol....only in their 50s then....... and Zak really is fucking superb.
Oasis is awesome 🎸🇬🇧
I never liked Oasis myself but applaud Noel who is perhaps a better guitarist than a songwriter, particularly as his songs were sung poorly by his brother, sliding around the notes for example.Mike Post turned Wonderwall Into a good song with his arrangement and vocal accuracy. I must say though Noel appeared grateful to be up there with The Who and he went up in my estimation after this performance. I've seen the Who at least 14 times and lost count and they have never failed to give value for money. Professional throughout their long lifespan and always in touch with their audience.
Same never an Oasis or NG fan but the Who the most dynamic band seen back in the day .
Keith Moon is ireplaceble, but Zak Starkey is doing a great job.
Jones was no slacker either...Kinda hard to fill Moons shoes
agree!
Starkey is a very good drummer
Moon taught him how to drum… amazing considering who his old man is!
too many fukin fills and couldn't play in time, bass player made him sound good
They should keep this lineup! Love it! Noel's Gibson gives this classic a nice edge against Pete's Fender Stratocaster. What I've always loved about THE WHO is that every guy in the band is unorthodox and yet it works better than almost any other band you care to name. Still the best live band I have ever seen.
err, John died in 2002!!!
The two guitars complement each other perfectly. Noel's thick Les Paul lead sound with Pete's thin Strat Rhythm style. I've seen other Who videos of live concerts & they're missing this element even when they have another guitarist on stage.
Nice to see Noel here with the Who.
'Won't get fooled again' has to have one of the best intro's in the history of music. 👌 x
This is awesome! I’m 73 and grew up with this music. I love oasis. Their music is a homage to our generation. Noel will forget this
Rock on roger and Pete!
I'm 70. I grew up with this music but think Oasis are a joke. Sorry but they are
The highlight of Noel's career, even by his own admission.
Monte-Carlo Gaz he's living the dream and he knows it
Love The Who and love oasis
But The highlight of Noel Gallagher was on 1996 playing in Knebworth
Phenomenal One I was there as well mate ;-)
The Who are insects compared to The Beatles or Zeppelin.
Even in 1968 they were still opening for the Doors in the USA.
The Doors would have been opening for Zeppelin, no doubt
@ If the Who are 'insects' that makes a whole lot of bands pretty pathetic by your opinion. I think they are brilliant. 50 years of great music.
Entwistle playing bass just like another shelling peas exercise.
Legend!!!
Amazing sound!..
Noel looks like a kid that just got his childhood dream arrive on his doorstep, save for jamming with the Fab Four in heaven, this was as good as he could have ever hope for.
Why was he there? He detracted rather than added to the band.
@@robmorris7128 The guys who wrote the music thought otherwise. Shut up, boomer, and go back in your miserable hole
The real people end of story
Great performance here. John Entwistle was ridiculous! Masterful. RIP
Johns Bass playing is sublime, pure class.
This is fabulous. The power of this performance is unbelievable.
I can't believe I never noticed this but Zak does a super salute to Moon on this one. All white, drumming like his hair is on fire, backlit drums.
Watch this over and over again, agree yes a proper salute to Moonie, a magnificent performance and.... a far better drummer than ever was his Dad!
only 1 mention of the drummer who. if I am not mistaken is Zac Starkey, Ringo Stars son and an excellent drummer
Alan Whylde And Zak also was a drummer for Oasis.
Only one mention ?....you might want to take another look mate
Unbelievable Zak Starkey
Isnt he though? He is like Keith reincarnate. After all those years of Kenny Jones. Zac is a whole new lease of life.
Comment section reads like a Zak Starkey feat. The Who song
The greatest rock song of all time - no doubt.
Absolument !
Not at all. Not even close in best songs ratings.
What a bass player!!!!!!
Noel is great musician. He plays all main parts from the song. Congrats, man!!
Mr. Entwistle's bass lines are absolutely fantastic. The way his notes blend into the song, fabulous. It's interesting to note that the lion's share of the left channel is his! Most of the guitars seem to be in the centre and right of it. Amazing musicians! 😎👍🏽
If the Who invites someone to play live with them, they are gonna rock!
Zack Starkey
I saw him play with the Who and he’s one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen
Keith is my favorite drummer of all time
For Gallagher to slot right in speaks volumes... I've only begun to realise how good he is ... over the last 10years...
Legendary band. Outstanding performance. Royal Albert Hall.
On the stage, Noel Gallagher looks like a session musician in front of the other guys from The Who, one of the best live rock band of the history
He was a guest. Be kind.
Yeah let's see your version
Session muscicions never look that cool
Know exactly what you mean. I call the sound 'haunting'. Can hear it a mile away and I love it too!
I like rock
That was awesome. Kudos to PT for giving Noel the solos and +1 for the appreciation of JE's liquid fingers bass playing. Sublime.
The Who, Ringo's son, and Noel on one stage. Royalty.
jsimon414 - Well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad!
@@mydayis5 2? There were 5 of them.
Clive Bindley - I’m counting The Who as 1, Ringo as 1 and Noel as 0
Total = 2
@@mydayis5 That's interesting, Ringo wasn't there. And why discount Noel? He played the solo very well.
Keith will never be forgotten ever
Big shoes to fill but those that want to try why not
The Who is timeless seen them in 84 at the Uni dome
Just found this and bloody hell ! This is how music should be !!!
IDK, I can’t explain 😂
This by far is one of the coolest songs ever from start, middle, and end. Ty, Who for being so FN cool!
New respect for Gallagher, he bust it wide open, brilliant improvisation.
I would LOVE to hear the isolated DRUM TRACK from this performance!! Wow!!!
Zak Starkey plays the best drum chorus of that song!!!
Much better then Kenny Jones that is for sure.
One thing I always loved about Noel is that he always respected where he came from,musically.Lennon/McCartney and Jagger/Richards were the same with Little Richard ,Chuck Berry and Gene Vincent in their day.
Noel looks so happy!
Don’t get why ppl are slagging Noel off. He does a great job. If he was as bad as these yanks says The Who wouldn’t have invited him. Noel has a enormous catalogue of great songs and well deserves it. End of story.
Happiest I've ever seen Noel🤩🤩
I bet Noel never thought this would happen in his life....!!
Certainly deserves it...!
And people wonder why they they don’t make music like this anymore we were truly blessed to have grown up in that era long live our rock and roll
The greatest song ever written.
The bass drives this.
Roger still looks awesome throwing the mic like back in the day!:)
***** This clip is from 15 years ago...
And your point? Roger was 56 here, at this point he was Rockin for almost 40 years. 15 years wasn't that long ago compared to how long he was in The Who.
***** My bad...I was under the impression that you thought this was a recent video.
+donaldrocks101103 And the scream is as awesome as it ever was. He s still in the Who and the Who are still touring. They pulled Detroit this year because Roger Daltry has meningitis. But they still knocked the daylights out of Glastonbury.,
Hahaha!!!! ......yeah......"back in the day.........." makes me feel older than I'd like. Time is a movin' don't be caught by surprise that this world is changing. I have to remind myself. ( deep in "the time of the end." )
My favorite part is when Roger Daltry hits that scream--greatest scream in rock!!
Second
John Entwistle is an absolute machine.!!!
Love the mutual respect - they all deserve the respect that they've earned from hard work - heartbreak - and never-say-die drive
I feel so privileged to be of The Who generation. So much talent we witnessed through the 60's to the 80's. Rock on forever you f*kin' legends.
Entwhistle was always the king of the bass.
BEST bassist EVER !
The OX!
Without doubt.
yes, John & Chris Squire were the best
listen to entwistles bass!...he was the star of the band.
THE OX IS A COLOSSAL BEAST OF A BASS GUITARIST
Noel looks like a competition winner who can' believe his luck.
One of the greatest songs in rock history! Thanks for sharing this excellent video. "Talking bout my generation. "
