  • How To Parallel Park In A Tight Spot - Part 1. In this video I discuss the main stuff like aligning yourself, distances, reference points, how to turn the steering wheel and so on. In the next video, I’ll discuss these same topics in more detail, and more. I park first with two feet on each side, then with only one foot.
    For any info:

    Note: I've had some negative comments on this video due to the fact that I portray an inexperienced driver as a woman and an experienced driver as a man. Now I do understand that this might offend some women, but I'm showing her as an INEXPERIENCED driver, not a BAD driver. And everybody knows that there are as many male inexperienced drivers as there are female. We are all inexprerienced when we start driving, or when we start doing anything for that matter. There's a difference between talent and experience.Talent is something you're born with, expereience is not. Nobody was ever born experienced at something.
    Now if I was comparing a bad driver with a good driver, and I would put the female driver as the bad driver and the male as the good driver, then I would have understood all the hatred. But I would have never done such a thing anyway.
    So I just want to make this clear that there was no other intention behind that, than putting PEOPLE in that video.
    There are excellent female drivers and excellent male drivers, just as there are terrible female drivers and terrible male drivers.
    Being good at driving is not a gender thing. It's about, among other things, skill, practice, behavior and... experience, which BOTH genders only get with time and practice. BOTH genders.
    And when I say both genders, it's because in this video it was a man and a woman, that also goes for every other gender identity. I respect all genders.
    Just wanted to make this clear.
    Other note: The size of cars and parking spaces vary from place to place, so you may have to adjust in some situations. The sizes of the vehicles in front of you and behind might also vary a lot. Make sure to always do your verifications (by checking the mirrors and by turning your head) at every step in order to always keep a safe distance from the other vehicles, or any other potential obstacles.

      But if you rely on a backup camera, if that camera fails or you try to park with a car that does not have a backup camera. Things will become harder for you. It's a nice feature but it's not good to rely on. It's good to learn without the camera before you use it.

    Man, you saved me today. I usually drive quite good however parallel parking in tight spaces scares me so I avoid it. However tonight there was no space apart from 1 where my Polo could fit leave approx 6 inches each side. I saw your video n tried it, I had to get down twice just to be sure as the space was even tighter than the one you showed. But I made it without a scratch.. thanks a lot.

    My Friend-(Conduite Facile) your driving videos are the (best ones on TH-cam) and the number one reason why I got my drivers license. Also, my driving instructor was good too; but when it came to the rules, regulations and the mind set (One) needs to have; when it comes to driving: I got most of that from your videos. Again, all your driving videos are the best and (I highly recommend) any one who wants to learn to drive to watch them. PS I passed on the first try thanks to you. Thanks.

    Best video on this topic I've seen! I live in Yucatan, Mexico. To get a drivers license here, there is a pretty easy written test, but then the only driving test is parallel parking! They measure your car and then place 4-foot-high plastic cones 1 meter farther apart than your car length. (Since there are no other cars, you can't use the mirror-matching trick to get your rear bumpers aligned.) You are limited to 5 back-and-forth moves; you can't touch the front/back barriers, you can't hit the curb, and you can't turn around (must use mirrors only). Any other aids (like a back up camera) have to be covered. You get three tries; if you fail you can come back the next day (and the next, and the next...). It's pretty insane, but people do manage to pass it!

    1. Back up until your rear window is aligned with the end of the parked car

    I tell my students to find a car identical to theirs, pull up next to it so they're aligned, and look over their left shoulder (I live in the UK) and make a note of where the back of the vehicle is, that way, whether they're parking behind a stretch limo, a van or an original Mini or Smart car, they know that they're back is aligned with the car next to them.
    The trouble is, people tend to forget this. One girl, who only had a few lessons, said that she tried to do a parallel park shortly after passing, and totally messed it up. That was years ago, I've seen her car parked up on many occasions, and she certainly seemed to have got it figured out.

    • @pineapplepenumbra
      @pineapplepenumbra 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ginger You appear to have misunderstood my comment.
      The idea is that you know when the back of your car is level with the back of the vehicle you are parking behind, regardless of its length.

    Mr Conduite Facile do you have tips for Parallel Parking but the Parking Spot is on the left side? I know that your teachings are applicable in the left spot but one adjustment is that one should do everything in the opposite direction but my problem now is that the perspective is different since the cars that's on the front and back seem much closer since they're right beside the driver's seat and not based on the perspective on the front passenger seat window.

    I believe reverse cameras have allowed people to park closer than they may have done . If you still have an older car you may notice other drivers boxing you in (frustrating)

  • @basantapant198
    @basantapant198 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Go to the car and ask if he is leaving. If he luckily says in few minutes you make a straight to back car and turn on emergency light for traffic follow from left. When that car leaves then you straight up with car which is at front. Forget about the 90 degree because you have no idea what that is so you do sterring wheel all to the right and reverse. When you touch to the curve you will have just enough space at front. Then forward it. Now you back wheel will straighten. Then straight the sterring and do reverse just a bit. Then your car will be inside and you have space as much as you want. I mean enough to do forward and back.
    Note: The guy in the video may have point but if you do not do full right when you reverse enter i am confident that you will leave big space in your curve. That’s dangerous to do in city like NY. Since the traffic is heavy and sometimes big trucks need more space.
    You try to push your car to curve as much as you can!!! Good luck!

    Thanks for thia video, it's really helpful. Could you please do a video of PARALLEL PARK IN A TIGHT STREET CAAR AT BOTH SIDE,?

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be the same technique as this one. If the space between the cars on both sides is so tight that you can't park, then you won't be able to park at all. But usually streets are designed to be wide enough so that there's enough room for the cars parked on both sides, and a car in the center + the space to do the parking maneuver. Else, parking will usually be forbidden on one side.

    Putting a manual car in gear when you park is a good safety precaution in case the hand brake fails; it’s the same idea when an automatic goes into park. Another thing you can do for extra safety is to turn the wheel all the way to the left away from the curb, or to the right towards the curb if you’re parking downhill, so that if the car does roll, gravity will pull it towards the curb.

    • @lexsoft3969
      @lexsoft3969 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only put in gear, when I am not sure the road is flat; otherwise I always put in neutral. There is a downside when putting in gear as I have experienced several times : when starting, I forgot to put into neutral. :)

    • @abhiekulkarni
      @abhiekulkarni 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lexsoft3969 to solve this problem, you should always start your car with your foot on the clutch!

    • @lexsoft3969
      @lexsoft3969 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abhiekulkarni I want my feet to be free of burden when starting. :)
      Actually when I see the diagram of my car from service manual, there is a part named clutch interlock that should prevent the car from starting if the clutch is not pressed. User manual also tells the same thing, even in neutral, press the clutch. Maybe that part/component doesn't function anymore, so I don't need to press the clutch when in neutral.

When parking, I use your method but often when I reverse and turn my steering wheel 1+1/4 on the right like you, I see the car behind me from my window looking like 1:34, before I turn my wheel the other way. Why is that and what can I do to correct it/park in the space? Someone please help

  • @lingtsang3297
    @lingtsang3297 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You’re using two reference points to determine when to turn the steering wheel completely in the opposite direction during the back up process: head light of rear reference car appears on driver side mirror and middle of the license plate at right edge of passenger side window. Does those reference points still hold true if your car is larger or smaller than the reference car in front of the parking space?

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They can vary slightly, unless both vehicles are of very different sizes. I have this video on that, plus I'll make another one soon: th-cam.com/video/Mpo6fcaWfC4/w-d-xo.html

    Tell me when parallel parking when should you straighten your car when backing up after steering the wheel to the right?you didn’t do it this time and just steered to the right and to the left ?

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case you can't straighten the car while backing up, since you don't have enough room. You have to straighten it in the next steps.
