      Jon Hawkins actually I was having trouble with mine yesterday, I cut out the filter and saw some small grass debris in there from when I set the lid down I imagine. So I put the weight back on and wrapped a rubber band around the straw to keep it from sliding. Rock and roll

    I threw a cocktail down last weekend of 8oz green effect, 4oz RGS, 4oz Humic12, and 4oz Air8 per 1000 square feet with a similar hose sprayer. I followed option 2 and just leisurely sprayed at a lower dial level only over the 1000 sq ft area. Overlapping a few times. Refilled and repeated for each 1000sq ft area.
    First time using these products but I really think I'm already seeing some color pop in just a short week or so.

    I used the Ortho sprayer for the first time the other day. It was connected directly to their concentrate bottle (for convenience). I walked almost as fast as I could and, when the bottle was empty, did a quick estimate of the sq footage I'd covered and realized the product was heavily over-applied. Your video helped me realize I should do this like I do solids. Next time, I'm going to calculate the volume of product I need to apply via the label, put it in the sprayer bottle, maybe dilute it a bit if needed, and then *turn down* the dial far enough that I need to walk the area at least twice. It's as simple as that. That's how I do solids-weigh into a bucket, choke down the spreader, and make at least two passes. The problem with that dumb dial is that it only determines the concentration of what comes out of the sprayer. That doesn't tell you anything about how much product you are applying per 1000 sf...that critical thing depends upon the concentration, the flow rate, **and** how fast you walk around. Your video made things click so that I don't need to worry about all that. As long as I put the right amount in the bottle for my area and need to walk over the area at least twice, it will be pretty good. Thanks!

  • @TheDylan6908
    @TheDylan6908 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yeah, that did help. Viewing the dial more as a means to sync your walking speed with how long it will take to get the product down on the entire lawn evenly. Though I'm sure that something like weed killer or fungicide couldn't be applied like that cause unlike fertilizer, those chemicals shouldn't be applied over diluted. At least that's what I believe.

    I thank you so much for your information that Dial in sprayer Works perfect I can't walk very fast so if I'm gonna put down 10 oz Of product Per 1000 ft²and I tested it with Water and I set the dial all the way back to 1 and 1/2 teaspoon Now I may have to go over a section 3 or 4 times But I'm comfortable with that setting I'm thinking about even trying to do one tablespoon And see how well that setting does on 1000 ft² I enjoy your channel thank you for everything that you do🥰🥰

    Hello, love your vids. Quick question i wanted to confirm. Is level of mix as important, or is all that matters is that i get down say 3 ounces per 1,000? IE, if i have a sprayer set at a 1 oz/g mix rate, and just spray the area longer to get the 3 oz down, does the extra diluted material degrade its effectiveness, or will it still do the job if i spray 3 passes of 1 oz/g rate, to get to the 3oz of product put down (assuming 1 gallon covers 1000sq/ft area)?

    I'm getting 2 gallons in ~50s, so your mileage may vary.
    @Lawncology, I did notice that the ortho was not spraying product for the first few minutes, not sure if it was clogging or what... I had the dial set to 3oz on the Ortho and I was just getting straight water, using the full Bio-Stim pack (3oz rgs, 6oz h12, 6oz air8, 8oz micro), total 23oz, thoughts? Today when I was doing another part of my lawn, I decided to dilute to the full 32oz with water and change the dial to 6oz/gal and that was flowing really well.

    So what happens if you have 5,000 sq feet to spray, and you need 3 oz per 1,000 sq feet. So you would need 15 oz total over the 5,000 sq feet. So you set your sprayer to 2 oz per gallon and you cover 3,000 sq feet and find that you have already used all over product. So you have sprayed 15 oz over 3,000 sq feet or 5 oz per 1,000 sq feet. What I am getting at is it seems that you would need to calibrate your walking pace in addition to calibrating your dial and spray. So walk back and forth over your 5,000 sq ft area and see how long it takes you to cover the area. If it takes you 10 minutes, then That is 20 gallons. So you would need 15 oz / 20 gallons or set your dial at 3/4 oz per gallon. Does that sound right?

    so after watching this video.. is my assumption correct in thinking that whatever the dial is set to, multiple that by two and thats how much product will come out in a minute.
    IE: dial set to 1.5 would release 3oz of product in 1 min @ flow rate of 2g/min? That keeps you in that 1min/1000 mindset, which would be a good plan on the bio pack which is 3oz/1000??

    So how do I translate this information to use my Chapin G36D hose end sprayer? Or, since I have not opened it yet, should I return it and get the ortho version? Thanks to converter apps for smart phones, I know for instance that 3oz is 6 tbsp. Chapin uses tbsp and tsp for some silly reason. By using your example instead of 1oz on the Ortho, I would use the 2tbsp on the Chapin? Or should I just continue to use my 10 gallon Northstar spot sprayer I have calibrated to get a certain amount of product per 1000'? But then I have the issue of having to water the product in after applying it so I can see the benefit of using the hose end sprayer. Just trying to determine my best option.

    John,
    I've been using a 4 gallon echo backpack sprayer and pre-mixing a cocktail of RGS, Air-8, Micros, and D-thatch in the proper amounts, then adding enough water to make a 1:7 ratio. So like 64 ounces of N-Ext 'cocktail', mixed with 448 ounces of water, shaken well. I could be mistaken but I think using this method I'm able to distribute just as much product in just as much time as the hose end sprayer method, but with greater accuracy. Also I don't own a hose that's long enough to quite reach the furthest parts of my yard right now. I'm spraying 20,000 sq ft of meyer zoysia turf that's in some pretty crappy clay soil (new home, built less than 2 years ago), hoping to improve drainage and organic matter over time. Is this a bad idea the way I'm doing it? Is the hose end sprayer method better?

      John, I have a question about ratios as well. I was looking over the application instructions and its states... "We recommend a 20:1 dilution rate for applications of each product in the Bio-Stimulant package". Should that be AT LEAST 20:1? If you set it at 6 and cover 1,000 sq ft per minute that would be 43:1, I hope I did my math right, but that's covering a lot of ground quickly. I'm getting ready to give this GreenStart Package a shot. Thank you!

      The Lawn Guardian I like the hose end just because it’s easier to get even coverage. Do what’s best for your setup, but maybe water in the product if you use a back pack to get it washed in

      Okay thanks, John! I was looking to buy a sprayer specifically to apply these products but I may hold off on that for the time being due to the cost of a good battery powered sprayer. Maybe a Christmas gift to myself later. Looks like I am going to be getting a hose end sprayer for the time being. One last question, I don't need to water in the product if I am using a hose end sprayer?

    John,
    Can i mix all four products from the Stim Pack into this sprayer and adjust my feed rate to compensate for the additional solutions?
    I would like to keep from having to spray each product individually.
    Please advise. Thanks ahead of time!

    • @Lawncology
      @Lawncology  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Ritchie I would limit it to two at a time

    • @Threxx
      @Threxx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you mind giving some insight into the science behind that answer? Are there certain bad interactions between certain N-Ext products when mixed, or are you concerned it will clog the sprayer or...? I had been assuming if you kept the product to water ratio right (1:7 or weaker) then it would be OK

    • @Lawncology
      @Lawncology  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kyle T I would be worried about clumping, or perhaps clogging. Some of the items don’t mix well in concentrate as they have varying pH and components that don’t play.

    My lawns just under 5,000sq, if I wanted to do humic 12 and rgs at same time will I be able to do it in 1 application?

    • @Lawncology
      @Lawncology  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      pwasylak02 if you apply at the 3 ounce rate on both, then yes. That would put 15 ounces of each over 5000ft.

      Lawncology thank you sir. And still leave it on setting 2 correct?

  • @LawnDad
    @LawnDad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I am not wrapping my head around the dial part.
    I just bought the starter pack and the same Ortho hose end.
    If I am mixing 3oz of RGS and 3oz of Humic12 for a total of 6oz per 1,000 sf (I have 6,000 sf lawn total) how do I figure out this dial?
    I get the idea, I want 6oz of product to mix with 1gallon of water and to spray it evenly over 1,000 sf.
    From what I understand is that you are saying to set dial to 1 or 2 and spray but then I would need to keep an eye on the amount that I am spraying, correct? I would need to keep checking until 6oz has been emptied then I would move on to the next 1,000 sf. 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Couldn’t they just make it simpler. 🤪

      Lawn Dad set to 2 and walk casually!

    • @LawnDad
      @LawnDad 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay definitely will do. But what exactly does setting 2 mean (product oz to water), just so I can better understand Ortho’s concept with this dial?
      When I set it to 2 do I just keep checking how much I have put out or should setting 2 coordinate to an actual amount of product in a certain time and thank you! 👍🏼🌱

    • @Lawncology
      @Lawncology  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lawn Dad the 2 swatting means that 2 ounces of concentrate will come out every 30 seconds. 4 ounces per minute. One gallon of water passes through the nozzle every 30 seconds and picks up the amount set on the dial.

    • @BMETFerg
      @BMETFerg 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Regardless of setting almost, you only want a certain amount to be sprayed per 1k. Setting 6 or setting 1, only that area of the yard gets the product. You will find in time that you might need to increase the dial so your not constantly walking around the same 1K. That help?

    • @LawnDad
      @LawnDad 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Ferguson, yep I got ya, thanks. Basically this hose end sprayer isn’t a precise solution. It is designed to put out whatever you set the dial to (at a quick rate).
      If I set it to 1-2 and walk slower to get 3oz down per 1,000 sf I’ll be adding a lot more water than the 1 gallon it calls for but that doesn’t matter for these Next products all is good there. If I needed to add 2oz per 1 gallon of water for lets say a fungicide I can’t do it unless I sprint across my lawn because if I set it to 2 it will dump 2oz out in 30 seconds and 1 gallon of water if I take 60 seconds to walk 1,000 sf I will have added 2 gallons of water and 4oz of my fungicide. The only solution I see it to water down my fungicide making it 4oz instead of the 2. Then I could take 60 seconds to cover 1,000 sf but my fungicide will be watered down.

      I'd like to know this as well. I want to use the sprayer to distribute Wet and Forget to my deck at a 1 to 5 concentration. What should I set the sprayer to? Anyone out here know?

    • @michaellewis6569
      @michaellewis6569 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That wouldn't be possible. The sprayers max setting is 8oz I believe. I am not certain if that means 120 oz water and 8 oz product, or 128 oz (one gallon) plus 8 oz, but it definitely won't do 22 oz or 32 oz per gallon.

    • @Lawncology
      @Lawncology  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manny Chava yes it can. Set it to 2 ounces. You’ll only need a small amount of product, roughly 15 ounces to do your lawn. Walk at a standard pace and spray evenly. Be sure to remove or open the filter on the straw

      I’m in north Texas and have 2500sq ft of Bermuda . It’s in decent condition. I just applied some simple lawn solution liquid aerator about 3 days ago and it’s soften the soil a lot I’m impressed.
      I’m trying to get ready for the fall/winter season it’s get really could here but rarely snows and we get a couple of icings early in the year.
      I’m getting some air 8 and overseeding once it gets cooler. We’re still hitting 100 degrees
      What products you recommend. There’s so many and confusing. And what order would you do it . 18-0-8 greenstart rsg?

      Timothy Henderson tell your “friend” that the results we’ve had in the medicinal field have been incredible. I ran programs in Northern California for a number of years. Quite simply, you can achieve robust plants on 1 ounce of 402 per week through the entire life cycle, veg/bud. It can also be use hydroponically and on indoor, but I’d need to k is the system before giving the rate.
