Great question. Thanks for asking and watching the video. The answer would depend on which products you are mixing together, but general rule is you want to make sure you have a minimum of 7:1(product to water) ratio. Meaning for every 1 ounce of product, you need 7 ounces of water.
Put down the compaction cure in my front yard (5000 square feet)yesterday. You have some real world compaction issues in your backyard Castleberry. I am looking forward to see how things progress. Keep the vids coming! I used the compaction cure over my whole yard last year (15000 sq feet) at a full rate early spring and fall and a low rate of air 8 and rgs in the late spring. I saw a definite difference. The yard was soft and green in the typically most compacted areas. I am a believer in the N Ext products!! Thank you for the great info!!

Great information Paul! Just curious for people with larger yards and no sprinkler system if you really have to water in the application "immediately" or can someone count on mother nature to wash things in at least within a day or two to still be effective?
I have been pretty fortunate to time my application before a good rain shower. I don't have irrigation on my lawn either, so I try to count on mother nature as much as possible. I check the weather reports every Monday to see what is going on for the week! - Castleberry

I'm in Arizona, temperatures don't go below 90 this time of year, July. I just found your product and our soil is like yours, very compacted clay. Can I apply safely? What happens when temps are above 85?
If temps are at or above 85 at the time of application, you could have some leaf tissue damage. Best to spray early in the morning or late in the evening when temps are cooler. - Castleberry
LOTS of work Paul nice to see real lawns, your back yard is a rectangular and you have a fence count the fence panels they should be equal for square footage of your lawn area . keep up the good stuff
I would just wait for the herbicide to dry before putting down Air8. Next time, try getting Air8 down, then spray your herbicide. That way you can water the Air8 in while putting down the Herbicide. More water is better with our products. - Castleberry

Laid down my first Air8 and RGS application last night. My Ortho sprayer at 3 oz setting used it up a lot faster than expected so I didn't get a very even application overall IMO. But as I live in the South I should be able to get in 2 more applications this year. Fingers crossed.
It for sure takes some practice to use the hose end sprayer to get a nice coverage. You've got this and you will notice a difference over time! Thanks for watching and commenting. Keep on keeping on! - Castleberry
Don’t have a compaction issue but I just bought RGS and Air8 with the hope that the Air8 will eliminate core aerating while overseeing each fall. How would you suggest going about overseeing when utilizing these products? Just throw down seed and then roll it with Pete moss? I get nervous not popping holes when seeding. Thanks for the help. Keep up the good vids.
If you are using the Air8 and RGS, I would put the Air8 down first, seed, then spray your RGS over the seed. Some sort of covering, whether it be pete moss or something else, is not a bad idea. As for poking holes in the yard and seeding, what happens to the seed in between the holes you poked? Do they not germinate? You are most welcome. Happy to help anyway I can. I will most certainly do that! Keep on keeping on yourself! - Castleberry
I just ordered the compaction cure set. I am on my second attempt to grow grass on a lawn with hard clay soil. If I use these products regularly will I still have to amend the soil with compost or other matter? Once the soil is loosened up what is the maintenance schedule? Also can I put some additional grass seed down just before I use these products? Thank you!
Great question. If the area you are treating is as bad as mine, it will take more than this season to correct it. Especially in the bare spots. There needs to be roots in the game to really make a difference. I plan on overseeding back there this fall. Once you have the soil where it needs to be, I would just do 3 oz of each with the other products in the bio stim pack once a month. That would be the maintenance schedule. You can absolutely put seed down. I would do Air8, seed, then RGS. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. - Castleberry
@@NExtDIYLawn I do have one more question! Using Air8 puts tiny fissures in the soil to allow air and water to the roots. If I decided to add compost on top of the clay would there be any benefit to doing a treatment of Air8 first? Would this allow the compost to be better amended into the clay? Thanks again!
Same here! Still trying to figure out exactly what we want to do back there. Maybe a hard scape with a fire pit..not sure. The front is irrigated. If I have the space in the system, I might add a line for the back. Good ole fashioned hose sprinkler works fine as well! Thanks for watching! - Castleberry

Love your products - just got mine in and have a question: Alabama & Bermuda - I put down Prodiamine and do not have any weeds as of first week in April. If I applied the Air 8, would that break that barrier and cause me troubles later? If so, should I wait until after soil temps are say greater than 72 degrees then apply it? Thanks for any tips!
Jefferson Sixx it’s my understanding that Air8 works sub-surface so you should be good to go as opposed to mechanical poking holes through the barrier.
Great question. One that I get a lot. Air8 will not effect the pre-emergent barrier. That only comes from mechanical aeration. You are good to spray down the liquid goodness that is Air8! - Castleberry
Only dumb question is the one not asked! haha, Absolutely ok to mix RGS and Air8 in the cup of the hose end sprayer. Great question and thanks for asking and watching!
I'm gonna speculate and say that you have a higher OM in the front than in the back. All you need to do is add sand and you can extend your driveway into the back (making concrete from sand + clay) :P I spotted some ant mounds in my yard too. Time to break out the fipronil/bifenthrin.
Might be the next step! Just extend the drive way lol. Those ant mounds drive me insane! Just the sight of them makes my blood boil. Thanks for watching Colonel! - Castleberry
@@NExtDIYLawn I just got the bifen because of a horrible millipede migration into my finished basement. Hundreds to thousands a day. DemonMax helped spray the foundation but thinking that Bifen will create a better barrier with the whole lawn.
So backpack sprayer. Per 1K you’re looking at 15 ounces of product. So you would add 75 ounces of water for a total of 90 ounces? So about 3/4 gallon per 1K
I think this is the first time I’ve seen you combine products in a hose end. There seems to be a lot of confusion (or maybe it’s just me) about what can be mixed in a hose end sprayer. To save myself time, can I mix any bio stim product in a hose end assuming I’ve got the volume to hold it? Based on your other videos, microgreen might be a wild one, but how about mixing RGS/Air8/Humic12 for any combined app?
Never mix 0-0-2 with the other products in the Bio-Stim. You can mix RGS and Air8, spray it out, Humic12 spray out by itself, then apply 0-0-2. Best way to get them down. - Castleberry
Hi, I’m curious as to what the results were on using this method? I’m in NW GA and my backyard has a lot of compaction. I recently purchased the biostim pack and plan to try this process.
Still pretty compacted and will be until I can get some root mass in the game. Places where there is turf have softened up nicely but the bare areas are still pretty rock hard. If you are trying to fix bare spots with the compaction cure, it will take a much longer time than areas that have turf. Reason being, root mass. Roots will hold on to the goodies you are giving it, which will help fix compaction issues. So, still working on it, but a major overhaul will be taking place this fall! Thanks for watching and asking for the follow up! - Castleberry
Great question. There is a bit of humic acid in all of our products. RGS has 6% humic acid and Air8 has 8%. Humic Acid helps amend soil to create a healthy environment for turf and plants. It will help in utilizing both macro and micro nutrients. - Castleberry
@@NExtDIYLawn wanted to mention, love your videos and updates but I have to tell you, your transitions from shot to shot, with music is brutally loud on the regular. When I stream on my TV I have to turn down the sound quite a bit. Just some constructive criticism. Keep up the good work!
What would I do in a yard that needs D-Thatch and a compaction cure? Alternate weeks on the D-Tatch and Compaction Cure, followed up with some GreenePunch and Humic12?
Awesome question! I would start compaction cure now as well as running Humic12 and GreenePunch. Wait for temps to warm up more to use D-Thatch; warmer temps help D-Thatch do its job.
Hi Paul ... I get it 18 oz/2000 sf and 12 oz/2000 sf. So folks don’t overlook it, it’s 9 oz/1000 sf and 6 oz/1000 sf as most rates are per 1000 sf. Will you be applying just Air8 prior to seeding in the fall or mechanically aerate?
LaRueOBR 5.56 his ortho puts out close to 2 gal/min of water and his dial is set to his pace of walking and dictates how much product is being pulled into the water stream. Higher dial ... emptying faster. All Paul is doing is filling the container with the amount of Air8 and RGS to cover 2000 sf and then just spraying that 2000 sf area til it’s gone. It’s like saying 18 oz per 2000 sf = 9 oz per 1000 sf (bottle rate) x 2 since he has double the area to cover. I don’t know if excess Air8 would hurt anything if someone doubled up to 18 oz./1000 sf.

The thing that scares me about naming products things like Air8 is that people will think they don't have to actually aerate their lawns. These ingredients have been around a long time, and people have been using them a long time. They are effective but they don't replace mechanical aeration. How do I mix next products for my 2 gallon sprayer or is that not an option ? I do have the ortho sprayer that I normally use
Great question. Thanks for asking and watching the video. The answer would depend on which products you are mixing together, but general rule is you want to make sure you have a minimum of 7:1(product to water) ratio. Meaning for every 1 ounce of product, you need 7 ounces of water.
That back compaction will be awesome to see fixed.
I look forward to that day. Thanks for watching sir! - Castleberry

That's how my back yard is

Put down the compaction cure in my front yard (5000 square feet)yesterday.
You have some real world compaction issues in your backyard Castleberry. I am looking forward to see how things progress. Keep the vids coming!
I used the compaction cure over my whole yard last year (15000 sq feet) at a full rate early spring and fall and a low rate of air 8 and rgs in the late spring. I saw a definite difference. The yard was soft and green in the typically most compacted areas. I am a believer in the N Ext products!!
Thank you for the great info!!
Sounds like you sprayed down some liquid goodness and your lawn game is strong! It will be fun to document that back yard over the course of the season.
Glad you have seen real world results using the compaction cure and you are a believer in the products! You are most welcome. Keep on keeping on! - Castleberry
LOL! Actually burst into laughter.
Wow! That back yard needs a jackhammer for a soil sample. Should be interesting to see your results.

@@NExtDIYLawn Awesome Thanks! Btw I love your website as well. I will be buying my Bio stimulant pack in a day or two. Can't wait! Do you know if N-Ext offers a walk behind sprayer or one that you would suggest that is good quality??

Can you do more than 4 apps in a year. I am in warm season area and have temps hit the 60’s steady as early as March and stay well above until late October

Paul how long should I wait to apply air 8 after a herbicide application?
I would just wait for the herbicide to dry before putting down Air8. Next time, try getting Air8 down, then spray your herbicide. That way you can water the Air8 in while putting down the Herbicide. More water is better with our products. - Castleberry

You could if the cup allowed for it. I am at 30 ounces for my backyard so I could only squeeze two more ounces in. If you don't mind holding off, save D-Thatch for summer when temps are high. Heat will help D-Thatch do its job much better. - Castleberry

Matthew DiNatale you most certainly can.
Yes! Yes you can! th-cam.com/video/doh-eSnOfuo/w-d-xo.html
So it’s almost a year later how did the 3-4 applications work? Follow up video with soil probe results would be cool.
I just received my order today! Can’t wait to try it out
Sprayer it down and have fun! - Castleberry
Update?
Great question. Not a bad idea at all to do an application of Air8 before doing a topdressing with compost. It will most certainly help.
@@NExtDIYLawn Thanks again!

What did you do about the ant mounds? And will you be making an "after" video?
Dumb qustion: its ok to mix both of these in the same tank at the same time. correct?
Only dumb question is the one not asked! haha, Absolutely ok to mix RGS and Air8 in the cup of the hose end sprayer. Great question and thanks for asking and watching!

Not First, but semi-compacted
Welcome, we missed you! Thanks for watching. Some RGS and Air8 could help with that! - Castleberry

5 to 10 minutes if using the Ortho, 10-15 if using a back pack sprayer. - Castleberry
In the Ortho, RGS and Air8 work well together. Shouldn't mix Humic12 in a hose end sprayer. Doesn't play well with others.
Well done! Very thorough explanation. Thanks!
Thank you very much! - Castleberry
any update video for this yet?
Still pretty compacted and will be until I can get some root mass in the game. Places where there is turf have softened up nicely but the bare areas are still pretty rock hard. If you are trying to fix bare spots with the compaction cure, it will take a much longer time than areas that have turf. Reason being, root mass. Roots will hold on to the goodies you are giving it, which will help fix compaction issues. So, still working on it, but a major overhaul will be taking place this fall! Thanks for watching and asking for the follow up! - Castleberry
Hi great video I'm just curious about Humic acid, is that in your planes as well and if so what is its purpose?
Great question. There is a bit of humic acid in all of our products. RGS has 6% humic acid and Air8 has 8%. Humic Acid helps amend soil to create a healthy environment for turf and plants. It will help in utilizing both macro and micro nutrients. - Castleberry

I thought the same thing...why the 2000sqft? But I believe cause his hose in sprayer is calibrated per 2000 sq ft
That is correct! And thanks for responding to LaRueOBR. Well said. I will only being doing Air8 from here on out. Cutting mechanical aeration out completely. - Castleberry

looks like it's easier to use the Ortho sprayer vs a backpack sprayer?
You can use either but the Ortho sprayer helps water in the product. I sometimes use the Ortho with the Air-8 then spray RGS afterwards with the backpack for foliar uptake. Note: this is when I'm in diy mode, not professional applicator mode.
Brent said it best! Ortho will allow for more water to be put down with the product which will help get down to the soil where it needs to be. - Castleberry

Paul, I think you may want to add Humic 12 to your compaction cure package. That, as you know, helps those other products work better. Good luck with your project!! 👍
Unfortunately this is an obvious set up to make this product look like a hero in a few months when Einstein here announces its not compacted any more. Has that been watered this year? Next time when you're setting up a test that can't fail, don't be so obvious. There are millions of lawns that are not compacted and none have ever heard of this product. BTW you did an ok job reading the script. Could you cite the article or the literature when this technique was studied. It would be interesting to read.
The thing that scares me about naming products things like Air8 is that people will think they don't have to actually aerate their lawns. These ingredients have been around a long time, and people have been using them a long time. They are effective but they don't replace mechanical aeration. If they claim it does, well, they're being dishonest and misleading people. I'd hope they're not claiming it does, but naming it Air8 doesn't sit well.
Stay tuned to the channel and John Perry's channel Lawncology. We just received the results from trials and he will dive into how effective it is.
