    Do New Caledonians have any say in Fr political affairs? No? Then let the people have their independence. Stop pretending this whole voting referendum is not about France still obtaining the country's nickel revenue.

      If it was given as a choice to islanders twice in the last 5 years and both times the majority voted not to go independent, it makes sense to keep them as part of France. I’d the majority voted for secession then sure, but democratically it seems like the majority of the island doesn’t want to leave.

    • @barriekerr3273

      First, if there was a vote on the subject of decolonization, it should have been limited to 40% of the descendants of the original inhabitants; these individuals should have the only say, not the descendants of the settlers. Imagine if the Israeli settlers in occupied Palestinian territory were asked to vote on whether or not to keep the land as property of the Palestinians-it's about as legitimate, only in terms of New Caledonia, as the subject here is intergenerational.

      Why would everyone in the island vote 🤔, only the indigenous people of Caledonia got to vote in their own country’s election and not the colonizers living their, what did you think colonizers will vote, they will start to creat all kinds of laws to vote on and then pump all the white French from France to Caledonia and they steal Caledonia and start taking their lands and killing them like Britain stoled Australia aboriginals, do you have sense at all 🤔.

    • @Fate_trades
      @Fate_trades 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The issue with the third referendum was that they requested a delay due to the large number of elderly people who died during the COVID pandemic, resulting in numerous funerals. They were concerned that their people wouldn't be able to go to the polls. Given that the Kanaks are in the minority, they must do their best to bring together as many people as possible. However, this becomes difficult when some are at the cemetery, others in the hospital with their family, and family is an important value in the Pacific islands.
