Let me play the devil's advocate and point out (I could be wrong because it's been a long time since I played it last) that in Arkham City DLC Harley managed to trap Batman and would've killed him, the only reason he survived was because Robin manage to rescue him. Granted, from what I remember Batman was depressed at the time, or something like that.

The fact that this thing is the official sequel to the Arkham games is what completely killed my interest: it doesn't have the tone, the core gameplay and it completely ruins the ending of Arkham Knight. What was even the point of it other than _brand recognition_ ? and even then it doesn't work. I found that this was set on the Arkham verse a year after the game was initially announced, most of my friends didn't know until I told them because the game is so radically different from the main games you can't tell at a glance it shares the same setting as those. And the devs aren't even trying, on launch they already confirmed the Joker to be a playable character but is not even the same Joker from the Arkham games, it's some weird zoomer take on the character inspired by Jared Leto's version, the one nobody likes. This game is DOA.

I remember that live-service Avengers game that was so desperately being pushed and advertised by Square Enix... that they shut down a year after release. WB said "Hold my Bud Light! I can have my failed 200mill live-service flop too!"
If you played at launch you KNOW why avengers sucked ass. Couldn't get cosmetics accurate, heroes TRAVERSAL was the worst crime committed and made most not even want to play. Not to mention lack of transparency from dev team with little to know content updates. Sefton Hill and the original Rocksteady founders left a while back, and it's definitely for one of two reasons: they abandoned their sinking ship, or they were forced out by the mutiny conducted by the activists who took it over.
If they were the ones who said they didn't need Paul Dini to come back to write Arkham Knight I'm betting when they did they looked back to that moment to the one were they screwed up.
I remember Sefton Hill talking about Arkham Knight about a decade ago and you could really see the joy he had being part of the team behind that game. All he wanted was to give players a cool Batman experience and by Gotham, they delivered on that.
Imagine a SS game like Killing Floor or CoD Zombies, but with superheroes. Waves upon waves of Brainiac monsters against four villains desperately trying to hold their ground. Instead, we got a crappy live service game everyone is either calling bad or just giving an apathetic shrug too.

This game had more red flags than USRR had on Stalin's Birthday even a year ago, and it only kept getting worse. Dead on Arrival, is the best it can archieve.
As a Marvel's: Avengers player, what they did shutting down the game was worse than just refusing refunds. They just added ALL the skins and other cosmetics from the store for free to every active account. Sure, it was a nice addition for a casual like myself who'd never spent a dime on those skins, only buying some for farmable currency, but damn did that have to feel like a slap to everyone who'd spent hundreds of dollars for what they'd thought to be deluxe content. To make it even more egregious, IIRC you could still BUY skins as late as a month before the official shutdown. By that time the news about them dropping all the skins for free was already out... just, conveniently enough, only on the official website and the handful of journos who still bothered to cover the game in its death throes. So if you didn't follow the game's news you were prone to learning about it AFTER you'd just spent $50 for one of those Endgame skins. And, again, no refunds. TL;DR: They milked the whales till the very last second and then just flipped them a bird by making all those exclusive cosmetics not exclusive at all.

They literally had to write a lazy explanation as to why Deadshot is a person of color in KJL when in the previous arkham games he was a white dude, the whole explanation is *oh but this was a fake Deadshot don't worry about it* which implies Batman, Deathstroke and everyone else were too dumb to figure it out in the 10 or so years Deadshot has been running around, it also contradicts the games where Batman himself says that only Deadshot could pull off a shot like that and for everyone else it would be impossible. Harley somehow built some connection with Ivy even tho for all of the Arkham trilogy she was obsessed with Joker and everything she did was for him and only spoke with Ivy for 2 minutes in Asylum. Lets not even talk about that instead of giving us a continuation to Nightwing and Red Hood's stories from Knight they are gonna release them as dlc and have them do absolutely nothing.

Tbh Marvel Avangers flopped, but i enjoyed the game so much, and this game seems to be the the same kind of game. I know i would enjoy it and thats why i decided to buy it, despite the reviews that are bashing against the game. It just is fast paced easy to play and quick to hop on with friends to have some fun. I just learned even tough the majority doesnt like something shouldnt bothering me, since its what (i enjoy). for example, pal world has millions of players right now and has such a positiv feedback, but for me it looks like such a boring game. So people just like different things and thats okay.

It really saddens me at how far Rocksteady have fallen. The Arkham series is one of the rare classics that will still be enjoyed 10 years from now, but Suicide Squad will be forgotten about in less than 2.

The games industry is at a tipping point I feel. A mixture of wokeness in game design, woke media coverage, live service games, gotcha games, and now with Yakuza having new game + as a DLC. Its too much now and gamers are starting to step back, wait, or just get a better game despite the franchise. Because they have ruined a ton of franchises to the point they lost the blind faith they used to have. Lots of companys are having to do lay offs or are going under. And I think its good for the industry, because those that invested in those cheap tactics are feeling the short-sightedness of their actions. And remember that a company that you loved that has sold out, is no longer the same company.

Not sending ANYONE review copies is a big issue, I remember how someone talked about how Bethesda didn't send review copies for Doom 2016, so people thought it wasn't going to be that good. Obviously that was an exception.

Live service games as a concept are actually incredibly solid. The game can permanently fund future projects the studio might want to work on, and it gets a continuous pipeline of content fed to it to keep it relevant. These games are also much more capable of having a redemption arc when compared to games that aren't Live service, lookathalo infinite. My problem isn't so much the concept, more so how it's handled. Publishers often use Live service games as a cheap way to get as much money as possible. I separate the games from the Publishers and developers who create/publish them, because if they make a good game, then that's worth celebrating regardless of previous business practices in my eyes. If they make a bad game, I hold it to the people responsible.
It is one of those things that could work but unfortunately it won't until less greedy or corrupt individuals go by the wayside in this field. The only situations of games I played that were actually handled well with a model (or similar concept because it was a free mmo) were Division 1 (not perfect but the turn around it had later in its life cycle was oddly impressive for Ubisoft), AQ World's (Artix Entertainment is a solid indie group all around: you can pay to play but you don't need the premium stuff to survive), and Back 4 Blood (at least up until Turtle Rock killed it for some reason; I still think more was on the way and could have been done but that is probably cope on my part). I don't even know if I could count AQ Worlds, what with it being an MMO and all. The day we see an actual live service game start off good will probably be the day the industry begins recovering
@J.B.1982 My situation with always online games is similar to my situation with live service games. Could a purely multi-player game with no single-player component be offline? No, of course not. Those types of games have to be online. My problem comes when a single player game or a game with a single player component is completely online, with no offline mode for the single player. That's just ridiculous.
Sad fact is I can think of basically two games in that model that aren't disasters. Helldivers (1) and Deep Rock Galactic. Edit: technically you could say Warframe makes a third, but it's a fuzzy definition.
Video games should be made with video game players in mind. Anime graphics are fine to set fantasy and reality apart, and sex dimorphic characters help prevent the characters from being the same.
The garbage ass state of games these days has literally ended my interest in video games. I only play once every few weeks now, and that is ONLY because of my friends who aren't in the US anymore use video games to stay in touch and honestly, I more often just talk to them on discord while they play. I genuinely could not care less if the industry collapses, and I do have better things to do.
You know it's really sad that back at DC Fandome in 2020, I was hyped (and a bit nervous) to see how this game would playout in the Arkhamverse. But just like Gotham Knights, it's left me disappointed. Oh I haven't bought it, and now I don't intend to, but it's sad to see games like them be reduced to tedious grinding and extensive online purchases. I hope Black Myth Wukong isn't as bad, or I just bought the PS5 for nothing.
Fans anxiously await the next Arkham game. Studio makes it woke and no one buys it. They will conclude that we have super hero fatigue or just aren't into games anymore.

Let me play the devil's advocate and point out (I could be wrong because it's been a long time since I played it last) that in Arkham City DLC Harley managed to trap Batman and would've killed him, the only reason he survived was because Robin manage to rescue him. As someone who has been witnessing all of this first-hand, I can confidently say this:
This is how it happened. This is how the Arkhamverse died.
The fact that this thing is the official sequel to the Arkham games is what completely killed my interest: it doesn't have the tone, the core gameplay and it completely ruins the ending of Arkham Knight.
What was even the point of it other than _brand recognition_ ? and even then it doesn't work. I found that this was set on the Arkham verse a year after the game was initially announced, most of my friends didn't know until I told them because the game is so radically different from the main games you can't tell at a glance it shares the same setting as those.
And the devs aren't even trying, on launch they already confirmed the Joker to be a playable character but is not even the same Joker from the Arkham games, it's some weird zoomer take on the character inspired by Jared Leto's version, the one nobody likes.
This game is DOA.
It was dying for awhile before now, the fatal blow was not hiring Paul Dini back to write Arkham Knight.

Sefton Hill and the original Rocksteady founders left a while back, and it's definitely for one of two reasons: they abandoned their sinking ship, or they were forced out by the mutiny conducted by the activists who took it over.

As a Marvel's: Avengers player, what they did shutting down the game was worse than just refusing refunds. They just added ALL the skins and other cosmetics from the store for free to every active account. Sure, it was a nice addition for a casual like myself who'd never spent a dime on those skins, only buying some for farmable currency, but damn did that have to feel like a slap to everyone who'd spent hundreds of dollars for what they'd thought to be deluxe content.
To make it even more egregious, IIRC you could still BUY skins as late as a month before the official shutdown. By that time the news about them dropping all the skins for free was already out... just, conveniently enough, only on the official website and the handful of journos who still bothered to cover the game in its death throes. So if you didn't follow the game's news you were prone to learning about it AFTER you'd just spent $50 for one of those Endgame skins. And, again, no refunds.
TL;DR: They milked the whales till the very last second and then just flipped them a bird by making all those exclusive cosmetics not exclusive at all.

With moves like this in times like today, you´re actually send out your game swimming with concrete boots.
They literally had to write a lazy explanation as to why Deadshot is a person of color in KJL when in the previous arkham games he was a white dude, the whole explanation is *oh but this was a fake Deadshot don't worry about it* which implies Batman, Deathstroke and everyone else were too dumb to figure it out in the 10 or so years Deadshot has been running around, it also contradicts the games where Batman himself says that only Deadshot could pull off a shot like that and for everyone else it would be impossible.
Harley somehow built some connection with Ivy even tho for all of the Arkham trilogy she was obsessed with Joker and everything she did was for him and only spoke with Ivy for 2 minutes in Asylum.
Lets not even talk about that instead of giving us a continuation to Nightwing and Red Hood's stories from Knight they are gonna release them as dlc and have them do absolutely nothing.

I have been saying for a couple years now, this whole new generation of developers in gaming is terrible. They cannot create anything, basically they can only poorly copy. I guess they are too focused on their "work/life balance". Sadly, I only see it getting worse. The only game I have purchased in the last couple years honestly is Baldur's Gate 3, which is incredible. But besides that, 98% of it is trash.

Tbh Marvel Avangers flopped, but i enjoyed the game so much, and this game seems to be the the same kind of game. I know i would enjoy it and thats why i decided to buy it, despite the reviews that are bashing against the game. It just is fast paced easy to play and quick to hop on with friends to have some fun. I just learned even tough the majority doesnt like something shouldnt bothering me, since its what (i enjoy). for example, pal world has millions of players right now and has such a positiv feedback, but for me it looks like such a boring game. So people just like different things and thats okay.

It really saddens me at how far Rocksteady have fallen. The Arkham series is one of the rare classics that will still be enjoyed 10 years from now, but Suicide Squad will be forgotten about in less than 2.

The games industry is at a tipping point I feel. A mixture of wokeness in game design, woke media coverage, live service games, gotcha games, and now with Yakuza having new game + as a DLC. Its too much now and gamers are starting to step back, wait, or just get a better game despite the franchise. Because they have ruined a ton of franchises to the point they lost the blind faith they used to have. Lots of companys are having to do lay offs or are going under. And I think its good for the industry, because those that invested in those cheap tactics are feeling the short-sightedness of their actions. And remember that a company that you loved that has sold out, is no longer the same company.
I feel like the industry is heading towards a crash similar to the one from the 80's. The conditions seem to be just right.

Damn that sucks. I have no idea why they just didnt go route that Guardians of the Galaxy took because despite not being a triple A masterpiece, it had an amazing story, great characters, and good combat/game play. Only thing i didnt like was only being able to play as Star Lord.

Little bit of a fun fact, Accursed Farms talked about Live Services at length and he pointed out how the only thing that differentiates a live service from a normal game is almost exclusively the always-online DRM.

7:42 The guy on screen is a "Junior Designer" meaning he's on the very bottom when it comes to coming up with any real decisions. I guarantee they're only putting him on camera because he's the 1 black guy that works at the studio. Dev studios love doing this with their dev interview videos. If someone is in an entry level position, they only put people of interest or attractive women on camera just to say "hey look, we have ____ working here"

Not sending ANYONE review copies is a big issue, I remember how someone talked about how Bethesda didn't send review copies for Doom 2016, so people thought it wasn't going to be that good. Obviously that was an exception.

What about 100% Free Seasonal Content, battle passes never timing out, not a single bit of pay to win items, loot pool that avoids power creep, the inclusion of 1 to 4 player teams and care that some people will want to play solo. Things people always want for games, but when we finally got it, people are still complaining.

Live service games as a concept are actually incredibly solid. The game can permanently fund future projects the studio might want to work on, and it gets a continuous pipeline of content fed to it to keep it relevant. These games are also much more capable of having a redemption arc when compared to games that aren't Live service, lookathalo infinite. My problem isn't so much the concept, more so how it's handled. Publishers often use Live service games as a cheap way to get as much money as possible. I separate the games from the Publishers and developers who create/publish them, because if they make a good game, then that's worth celebrating regardless of previous business practices in my eyes. If they make a bad game, I hold it to the people responsible.
It is one of those things that could work but unfortunately it won't until less greedy or corrupt individuals go by the wayside in this field.
The only situations of games I played that were actually handled well with a model (or similar concept because it was a free mmo) were Division 1 (not perfect but the turn around it had later in its life cycle was oddly impressive for Ubisoft), AQ World's (Artix Entertainment is a solid indie group all around: you can pay to play but you don't need the premium stuff to survive), and Back 4 Blood (at least up until Turtle Rock killed it for some reason; I still think more was on the way and could have been done but that is probably cope on my part).
I don't even know if I could count AQ Worlds, what with it being an MMO and all. The day we see an actual live service game start off good will probably be the day the industry begins recovering

@J.B.1982 My situation with always online games is similar to my situation with live service games. Could a purely multi-player game with no single-player component be offline? No, of course not. Those types of games have to be online. My problem comes when a single player game or a game with a single player component is completely online, with no offline mode for the single player. That's just ridiculous.
Sad fact is I can think of basically two games in that model that aren't disasters. Helldivers (1) and Deep Rock Galactic. Edit: technically you could say Warframe makes a third, but it's a fuzzy definition.

Video games should be made with video game players in mind. Anime graphics are fine to set fantasy and reality apart, and sex dimorphic characters help prevent the characters from being the same.
The garbage ass state of games these days has literally ended my interest in video games. I only play once every few weeks now, and that is ONLY because of my friends who aren't in the US anymore use video games to stay in touch and honestly, I more often just talk to them on discord while they play. I genuinely could not care less if the industry collapses, and I do have better things to do.
You know it's really sad that back at DC Fandome in 2020, I was hyped (and a bit nervous) to see how this game would playout in the Arkhamverse. But just like Gotham Knights, it's left me disappointed. Oh I haven't bought it, and now I don't intend to, but it's sad to see games like them be reduced to tedious grinding and extensive online purchases. I hope Black Myth Wukong isn't as bad, or I just bought the PS5 for nothing.
