another great video MJR. I love when you have kinsley and reggie as guests, they have great gaming knowledge and passion. Another Mario PC game i can think of is Mario teaches typing.
I played (and still have the box) Mario is missing for PC. Didnt know how to play it at the beginning but then I learned! Great game to know famous locations and learn English!
Absolutely. Donkey Kong 94 is actually where Mario's movement style gets fleshed out (backflips, crawling, handstands) and thus what Super Mario 64 uses as its template.
Well done, as always. Mario Picross is one of my favorite Game Boy games. I even like 'Mario is Missing'.. not sure why. I think it's because it asks questions even I know the answer to.
John Riggs: RIGG'd Games I played that as a child on a site where a person put up a bunch of NES games. I'm not sure what it says about me that I preferred it over Mario 1
Wow. When you guys spoke about 6 Golden Coins, I honestly started to tear up. I actually had to pause the video. That just brought back memories of how much that game meant to me at that time. I played it over and over on my gameboy that I saved up for as a kid, and fell in love with that game. There's something about seeing someone else's appreciation for that game that really gets me.
I consider Super Mario RPG a hidden gem, since it was a late SNES release, was never released in PAL terrirories (sans VC release) and was the last SquareSoft game on a Nintendo system for half a decade. Its a wonderful game, with a well written highly enjoyable story with great characters, fun battle system, nice side quests, awesome soundtrack and good pacing. It took me around 20 to 25 hours to beat, so it's not the longest RPG, but its so enjoyable that it stuck with me for a long time.
All the characters are great, I really like Geno and Mallow, how they had SquareSoft esc qualities, but still managed to fit in the Mario universe. Probably one of my favourite SNES RPGs alongside FFIV and the almighty Chrono Trigger.
The gameplay of Mario vs Donkey Kong's is actually very reminiscent of Donkey Kong on the GameBoy, which for all intents and purposes is a Mario game, and progenitor of the MvDK series. So yeah, MvDK was far from the first to have Mario doing puzzle platform gameplay :)
I'm very surprised you didn't mention the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong. If you like Mario vs DK you will love Donkey Kong '94. There are 101 levels and it's almost exactly like Mario vs DK. It's one of my all-time favorite Game Boy games. It's honestly up there with Tetris, Metroid 2, Pokemon, Super Mario Land 2, Link's Awakening, and Kirby's Dream Land 2. If there's a part two I suggest you look into that one. Also, if you want to count Wario games you should look into Warioland for the Virtual Boy. All the Warioland games are fantastic, actually. Wrecking Crew is also a decent game, though not the best. And if you like Picross, I've heard Mario Picross is a good version.
Yes! Donkey Kong 94 is awesome. It starts like regular Donkey Kong, but then it goes on and introduces more gameplay mechanics. I have it now in my 3DS, since it's available to purchase on the Virtual Console, but playing it on Super Game Boy is the superior way.
Super Mario Land 2 is DEFINITELY one of the best Mario games around, especially when you take the limitations of the platform into consideration. It's also probably one of the EASIEST games in the series, I'd wager, though: as nice as the free-roaming aspect was, letting you tackle the levels in any order you wanted, it quickly became obvious that the levels were all balanced toward a lower skill set than the later stages of other games. That final castle is a bit of a pain, though. Mario DOES have other appearances on the PC as well! The original Super Mario Bros. has a VERY crappy PC port without scrolling levels, rendering many of the jumps and platforming segments far harder than they are in the definitive NES version.
Mario Golf and Mario Tennis for GBC/GBA are excellent! Way better than the console games. They both have a really cool RPG mode for the main game that's so much better than anything in the console games. I prefer the graphics and chiptunes of the GBC games, but the GBA games are great as well.
Fortune Street (or Boom Street as it's known here) is one of our most played Wii games. Really cool to see it in this video. The more people who know about it the better, I want a Wii U version. :)
MetalJesusRocks If you do a part 2, I could record footage of DDR Mario. I have the mat and the game (I think) lying around somewhere. I know for sure I have the mat. If I don't there's always emulation. Haha! EDIT: Also dood, epic hair. \m/
Mario is in it, and it's certainly more of a Mario game than Alleyway or Golf. I was really expecting Kinsey to mention that, given the top she's wearing.
This is a really cool video; I've never seen anyone focus on the often overlooked Mario titles like this! Super Mario Land 2 really does need more recognition; one of my absolute favorites as well and a fantastic game. The Wario Land games that came afterwards need more love as well!
Personally I wouldn't say Super Mario Land 2, as I and most people probably got that with the game boy back in the day. Good game though. Oh I love Alleyway by the way, good call!
Watching you guys gives me hope. Video games are a passion of mine. I've grown up playing video games and I am going to continue to play video games until the day I drop. Though, sometimes it's difficult to be excited about collecting and playing my video games when I am met with nothing but judgement and negativity by my family and peers. It's a hobby like any other and I don't understand why they can't see that. Watching you it gives me hope that I will find people to connect with and share my hobby with. People who shares my passion for this great medium.
Mario Land 2 is one of my top Mario games as well.. And I feel its right up there with Mario Bros 3 and Mario World. Also a fan of Fortune Street and the mario sports games. -Golf and Soccer being the most fun
The Mario that came with the snes was the best. When you jumped on Yoshi you would hear the cowbells that had never gotten out of my head that tune is so catchy
There's also a pre-qual, if you will, to Mario vs. Donkey kong on the regular Gameboy, simply called Donkey Kong. Great game as well! Thumbs up on this video. I love the Hidden Gems series!
I agree about 6 Golden Coins, I remember it fondly in my childhood. I got it on the Virtual Console on the 3ds and finished it more quickly than in 1 year, it definately has some replayability also by comparing your skill now that you are an experienced gamer.
Another great hidden gems video. Always love to see new games I don't know about, helps me to grow my collection. Like the Dreamcast, I added 7 new games to my collection because of your hidden gems review. Thanks MJ and to all your guests.
Great games! I had a CDI growing up in the Netherlands (where it was build by Philips) and yes Hotel Mario is one of the best games on that system. Including 7th Guest and 11th Hour.
6 golden coins is my favorite game! It was the first game i ever beat when i was a kid. So glad you did this, and it was great to see fortune steet i got it a few mons ago and it has been a ton of fun
Mario tennis for gba looks cool. I have the one for the color, very challenging game! Love Kinsey's purple highlights, would love to cuddle up to her while playing some games. Super Mario sunshine is incredible. Amazing graphics and gameplay, not to mention brilliant music!
Oh! I ordered Super Mario Ball (Mario Pinball Lands Name in europe) yesterday with complete packaging & instructions for just around 10 dollars, that so amazing
Guess I didn't realize 6 Golden Coins was a hidden gem....I used to play it all the time, and still enjoy it. I definitely agree with Kinsey...it's by far one of my very favorite Mario games.
I agree with Kinsey on super Mario sunshine. It doesn't get the love it deserves. It has wonderful mechanics, and to watch a speed runner master this game is quite beautiiful. It is unique.
Agreed. The mechanics are perfect, just running around the hub world is fun. Unfortunately, some the level/mission designs aren't great. I hope they make a sequel. Forget the voice acting, create some new creative areas, bring back the mechanics and setting: amazing game.
I didn't expect a hidden gems video for Mario, but that was a pretty good list and I really enjoyed the video. the only thing that bugged me was the emulator filter you had running, I think you should present the games as they are thanks again for all the great content
Great video. Those are some pretty cool Mario games. I'm actually going for a complete Mario collection and I'm currently at around 80 games. Some other hidden gems that I'd recommend are Super Princess Peach on DS, Mario Golf Advance Tour for GBA (an RPG golf game) and Picross 2 on Game Boy (Japan Only, but pretty import friendly. Great for puzzle fans.)
Several great games on this list for sure! I feel like the Paper Marios deserve more love... those were great games but again, not really "hidden". Great vid!
To answer your Question about PC Mario games, there was a few more the just "Mario is Missing". There was Mario Teaches Typing 1 - 2 Mario's Time Machine Deluxe Mario Gallery Super Mario Bros. Print World Mario's FUNdamentals and about 20 more PC games from the Apple ][ to Win 98 / Mac os 8. Hope this helps. Loved the video! Thanks.
MetalJesusRocks Have u guys heard about the original donkey kong for the gameboy? I was shocked to find out that after beating the arcade stages it turns into a mario v donkey kong game w/ 100 levels. Its an awesome game to check out if u love mvdk. Thanks for another great video tho!
As an educator who teaches keyboarding, I'd love to give a shout out to "Mario Teaches Typing." Learning to type is never much fun, but when you throw Mario in, it makes the experience worth the while. :)
Fortune Street is part of a long-running series named Itadaki Street, which has been popular in Japan for quite some time. There is also a version on the PS2 which pits Dragon Quest characters against Final Fantasy characters. It is one of the bests in the series, next to the SFC version.
Super mario sunshine (GC) is one of the best mario games if you ask me. It's relaxing game. It was also first 3D- mario what i played through beginning to the end.
Aaaactually, the first Mario vs. Donkey Kong was mainly modeled after the original GB Donkey Kong game, which had very similar gameplay. Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 for the DS, however, was modeled more after Mario and Wario
Again my gaming knowledge has been improved alot.. I had no idea, so many Mario games! Great channel, awesome Kinsey, sweet video als always, ty mr. Metaljesus 😀👍
Super Mario Strikers (or Mario Smash Football as it's called here in Europe) is a freaking excellent game. I used to play it with a friend of mine almost religiously. It's still my favourite football video game ever made. Last game I ever bought for the Gamecube brand new :D And yes, we both thought the sequel on the Wii was a little over the top as well.
The second she was holding what appeared to be a Gameboy Game, I knew it was 6 Golden Coins. Best handheld Mario game of all time, period. When I put copies of it up for sale, they sell in a matter of minutes, regardless of condition.
Camelot made all of the Shining Series games up to Shining Force III... more people need to know this, and to play Shining games... and I need less caffeine in my life. Great video, I'm off to eBay for Mario Tennis.
Good video! If I had another game to recommend that wasn't in this video, I would like to throw out Mario's Picross on the original Game Boy. It's a puzzle game that is kind of like sudoku meets Minesweeper where you uncover a picture on a grid. It's a little hard to explain, but once you play it, you'll find it's actually a really addictive and fun puzzle game. I put a lot of hours into it.
Love the video and channel. Mario vs Donkey Kong is amazing, but it's predecessor Donkey Kong for the Game Boy started that series which is also an amazing hidden gem starring our favorite mustachioed plumber. Definitely check that one out for a great time that not many people know is a immersive platform puzzle masterpiece.
I really enjoyed Mario vs. Donkey Kong(I didn't like 2 as much) and Super Mario Land 2! One hidden gem for me that I think is less known than some of the games in this video is Yoshi's Cookie for the NES/SNES, it's a fun puzzle game.
Kinsey is a great contributor to this channel, I'm glad to see her on here on a regular basis.
It's hard for me to think of Super Mario Land 2 as a hidden gem, since I grew up with it.
same here. not that well hidden of a gem
It was a major Game Boy title. Everyone I knew had it along with Kirby Dream Land 2.
another great video MJR. I love when you have kinsley and reggie as guests, they have great gaming knowledge and passion. Another Mario PC game i can think of is Mario teaches typing.
that game was on my mom's macintosh in the 90s. i'll always remember his voice "wElCoMe To MaRiO TeAcHeS tYpInG!"
I played (and still have the box) Mario is missing for PC. Didnt know how to play it at the beginning but then I learned! Great game to know famous locations and learn English!
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins was a great game!
probably my favorite mario!
I wouldn't call it a "Hidden Gem" though.
@Dabayabado87 it's not a GBA game lol is the original game boy
@Dabayabado87 it's a really good better than the first Mario Land imo
You can download this on e shop for 3ds. Best $3.99 I ever spent 🔥
Definitely pick up Donkey Kong for the Game Boy, start of the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong series and one of my all time favourite games.
Absolutely. Donkey Kong 94 is actually where Mario's movement style gets fleshed out (backflips, crawling, handstands) and thus what Super Mario 64 uses as its template.

Donkey Kong on Gameboy is amazing. It's the predecessor to Mario VS Donkey Kong.
I'm glad you mentioned Mario & Wario. I'm surprised it didn't get released in the US. It's such a cute looking game.
1:07 thx good sir
Over 200 Mario games? Whaaa? There's not enough time in a single lifetime to enjoy all these awesome fucking games!
I consider Super Mario RPG a hidden gem, since it was a late SNES release, was never released in PAL terrirories (sans VC release) and was the last SquareSoft game on a Nintendo system for half a decade. This. Donkey Kong 94 is fantastic.
Damn right. Play it on Super Game Boy if you have one. Better than the Super Mario Land games in my opinion.
Yes! Donkey Kong 94 is awesome. It starts like regular Donkey Kong, but then it goes on and introduces more gameplay mechanics. I have it now in my 3DS, since it's available to purchase on the Virtual Console, but playing it on Super Game Boy is the superior way.
i thought so too. that game was mah shit!
It's a device that allows you to play Gameboy games in a SNES, where you can see the games in color and have other benefits.

I played six golden coins so many times as a kid on my original GB. Bunny ears!
brings back Memories :) Super Mario Land 2 for the Gameboy is also one of my fave Mario Games ever
Mario Hoops 3 on 3. Its for the ds and I rarely ever hear it get mentioned! Plus it was the first Mario / Squarenix crossover sports game
That should have replaced Fortune Street or Mario is Missing.
Kyle Bruce .
1:08 thanks for that shot
What about super princess peach? I thought that was a great game and I never see it get the attention it deserves
W E E B i liked it but never beat it
Well, they didn't mention any Wario games, so they probably don't consider it a Mario hidden gem.
I was just about to make a comment about super princess peach, because that game was super fun.And I loved the twist on peach saving Mario.
I kind of feel like the original Mario bro's is a hidden gem. Its talked about alot but when you sit down and dig into it. Its always a blast :)
I'm surprised DDR mario mix wasn't on here (unless I missed it somehow)
AprilsMoon92 Kinsey recommended DDR Mario but we couldn't find the dance mat! :)
MetalJesusRocks If you do a part 2, I could record footage of DDR Mario. I have the mat and the game (I think) lying around somewhere. I know for sure I have the mat. If I don't there's always emulation. Haha!
EDIT: Also dood, epic hair. \m/
It's nice to see Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden coins mentioned. I used to always play that game on my brick of a Gameboy classic; I still have it lol
Gotta be honest, that shot on Kinsey sat on the floor using the mouse will be burnt into my mind for the rest of my life!
Mario Tennis Power Tour is so good, it is so addicting. The story mode was so satisfying. And Mario VS Donkey Kong is good too
This guy was in shivers 2. Good game. Good music.
Yes I was! So glad some people remember that game :)
Holy spit just checked it out. Thats awesome.
FossilizedHuman I used to play the first Shivers. I never figured out how to get anywhere. XD
Kinsey: "Because Wario is a Dick!"
LOL, I'm here for this!
Talking about Mario hidden gems...
No mention of Super Princess Peach! TT_TT
No.
that is not a mario game
Mario is in it, and it's certainly more of a Mario game than Alleyway or Golf. I was really expecting Kinsey to mention that, given the top she's wearing.
Alex Kettle So you just disagree with the core concept of the video then. K.
Alex Kettle Like I said - we get it. But it's MetalJesus's video, so he's the one who gets to decide.
+David James Brown agreed, I wouldn't call a game like Mario land 2 which was hyped up pretty good a hidden gem. Love the video though.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong is my jam!!! Love that game!!! Great list!!!
kinsey is my princess peach :)
I am from Germany and I really like your videos
NeoHD I am from Seattle and I really like your comments ;)
Belgium here, add me to that list! 😜
I am from Ireland
Hello from Brazil!!
Brazil too! Just discovered this amazing channel. :)
Mario Land 2 is one of my top Mario games as well.. And I feel its right up there with Mario Bros 3 and Mario World.
Also a fan of Fortune Street and the mario sports games. -Golf and Soccer being the most fun
You should link Kinsay's channel (sorry for mispronunciation xd)
***** Kinsey doesn't really do many videos on her channel. Instead she's a full time contributor to MetalJesusRocks! :)
Oh, I understand, what a pity. Awesome videos though!
*****
haha yea, I know..I can't get enough Kinsey! lol
MetalJesusRocks Reggie ftw!! I want a shout out from him haha
I immediately watch every single video she's in when I see the upload... just saying.
The Mario that came with the snes was the best. When you jumped on Yoshi you would hear the cowbells that had never gotten out of my head that tune is so catchy
Metal Jesus please tell me where i can get that awesome shirt you are wearing
There's also a pre-qual, if you will, to Mario vs. Donkey kong on the regular Gameboy, simply called Donkey Kong. Great game as well!
Thumbs up on this video. I love the Hidden Gems series!
Kinsey is so cute love her smile ☺
I agree about 6 Golden Coins, I remember it fondly in my childhood. I got it on the Virtual Console on the 3ds and finished it more quickly than in 1 year, it definately has some replayability also by comparing your skill now that you are an experienced gamer.
I love it when you have the beautiful Kinsey in your videos! KINSEY, MARRY ME!!!!! (swoon)
LOVED mario is missing. Played it through on the PC when I was a kid.
I agree that 6 Golden Coins is the best Mario
:D Kinsey is very beautiful!!!
Mario vs DK is amazing. So weird Mario vs Wario hasn't had any more entries.
Waddabout Mario vs Donkey kong for the original gameboy? Over 100 lvls, man that game was badass. You could do backflips 'n shit.
+MShenoby That was just called "Donkey Kong" (the one on gameboy). Such an amazing game :)
Tru dat! I barely heard of mario vs donkey kong 1 & 2 thanks to this video, might give them a try if they're like that game.
Another great hidden gems video. Always love to see new games I don't know about, helps me to grow my collection. Like the Dreamcast, I added 7 new games to my collection because of your hidden gems review. Thanks MJ and to all your guests.
Hotel Mario? What?
Wrecking Crew on the NES is a great Mario game, played it a lot when I was a child.
Mario Slam Basketball, for the DS, really incredible game. Very fun, with a very particular gameplay.
Great video
Kinsey rules! I love her. Keep inviting her. MOAR KINSEY PLEASE!!!
Love the fact I just downloaded Super Mario Land 2 from the nintendo e-shop on my 3dsxl, thanks for the suggestions!
LOOOOVE the virtual console !
Fortune Street is a solid, simply fun game. Love the dragon quest/final fantasy/ square Enix mixing with Mario vibe
How the fuck was that tennis game even mario
Fantastic video guys! Never thought I'd see a hidden gems video for the most well known video game character.
Got Mario Tennis Power Tour and Super Mario Pinball Land coming in! Looking forward to playing them very much.
I had the same experience with Mario golf , I thought it'd be boring but I legit got into it and it's amazing
Can't get enough of that intro. Also i think i might look for a few of these. Thanks!
As soon as he looked and asked her what Camelot did, I said "Hot Shots Golf" I cannot believe they didnt say that!
Another GREAT video ! Kinsey is Always a welcomed guest and you two turned me onto alot a Mario that I passed on... Thanks !!!
I was just thinking how I wished you'd have another vid with kinsey and here one is! She's the best.
DreamInSongs That would be awesome.
Great hidden gems, I barely remember everyone having a copy super mario land 2 for the game boy growing up.
where is MARIO'S GAME GALLERY? to me one of the best mario games ever
"He has a bucket over his head, because Wario is a dick".
quote of the year
😂
I didn't expect a hidden gems video for Mario, but that was a pretty good list and I really enjoyed the video.
the only thing that bugged me was the emulator filter you had running, I think you should present the games as they are
thanks again for all the great content
Don't forget Mario Teaches Typing on the PC! ;) im a huge SM Strikers fan!
there was also "Mario's Game Gallery" which was a collection of card games on pc, solitaire, go fish, yahtzee, and so on.
So glad to see Fortune Street on this list! A highly underrated game!
Super Paper Mario always felt underrated to me. I loved it.
Several great games on this list for sure! I feel like the Paper Marios deserve more love... those were great games but again, not really "hidden". Great vid!
To answer your Question about PC Mario games, there was a few more the just "Mario is Missing". There was
Mario Teaches Typing 1 - 2
Mario's Time Machine Deluxe
Mario Gallery
Super Mario Bros. Print World
Mario's FUNdamentals
and about 20 more PC games from the Apple ][ to Win 98 / Mac os 8. Hope this helps. Loved the video! Thanks.
I was surprised to see Super Mario Land 2 on this. I thought everyone who owned a GameBoy had the Land series.
When I was younger I had the Mario Time Machine game that taught you history. Brilliant.
MetalJesusRocks Have u guys heard about the original donkey kong for the gameboy? I was shocked to find out that after beating the arcade stages it turns into a mario v donkey kong game w/ 100 levels. Its an awesome game to check out if u love mvdk.

Always love your video reviews. You and kinsey seem always so relaxed and laid back.
Mario Land 2 was my FIRST Mario game I played as a child (2003), it was also my first video game.
As an educator who teaches keyboarding, I'd love to give a shout out to "Mario Teaches Typing." Learning to type is never much fun, but when you throw Mario in, it makes the experience worth the while. :)

Mario vs Donkey Kong looks fun. I remember you mentioning it in your Top 10 Gba video.
