    The GameCube is such an underrated console. I absolutely loved mine. Just a basic console with no gimmicks and not once did it crash or break on me. 10/10

      It's cool and all to go back now and play the games you want but trust me owning this system back in the day was pretty painful because there would be long stretches with no releases or no good releases (we're talking 3-4 games over a period of 5+ months) and those 3-4 games would be mediocre ports of games that came out on PS2 a year+ earlier. It was tough having the GC as your only modern console at the time. You really needed an Xbox or PS2 as well. Sadly I was a kid and couldn't afford to have more than one console so I had to sell mine to fund a PS2 as I just couldn't wait 6+ months each time for a good new game to come out.

    If you don't have it, definetely get Super Mario Strikers! One of my favorite games period. Also, love the GameCube! I never understood why so many people treat it like a dud amongst other Nintendo consoles. In my opinion, the GameCube might have more great games than any of them...

      Radical Reggie ,
      Would like to see your collection's too as its coming from for PS1 root perspective. Because of your PS1 focus, I commented to you in MJR's ultimate GC package recently to state that, if you also have Sony's monster first analog controller - the SCPH-1110 Analog Joystick - that, with a PS-to-GC controller adapter, that there were a lot of compatible GC games, giving you finer and intuitive control and, for titles released for the PS2 that no longer supported the Analog Joystick, the GC versions did. I'd be very interested in a video collaboration that perused and highlighted titles enhanced by the SCPH-1110 across yours, MJR's and any other collaborators' GC library ( I remember seeing John Hancock's GC vid recently... ) .

      @star Yeah, I guess the main difference is that the Switch's main gimmick (being a home console that you can also take anywhere with you) actually has a practical use and it doesn't feel weird or shoehorned in.
      It's not like "Hey here's a second screen on the controller that 3rd party devs can implement poorly" or "Let's put useless waggle controls into games that do nothing other than copy a generic button press" like it has been in the past sometimes. It's a huge step in the right direction for sure.

    Hey Metal Jesus! First of all, I just have to say that I´m a huge, huge fan. I just can´t imagine a day passing without watching some videos off of your TH-cam channel. Thanks for all the awesomeness and console fandom materialized in these cool videos! Being a huge Nintendo fan myself, (I consider myself a Nintendo collector and player mainly, but I have in recent years started collecting for other consoles pre-1995 as well; 3DO, Jaguar, Sega system etc.) I have to say that I feel the reason why you don´t like "Wave Race: Bue Storm" as much as the first Wave Race game is possibly exactly why I also don´t like Blue Storm as much. When "Wave Race 64" first came out it was totally revolutionary grahically. All the reasearch Nintendo put down into creating totally atuhentic waves and water physics (I read a lot about that before it came out) made it such an unreal WOW experience for us gamers coming from the Super Nintendo, Genesis, PlayStation etc. that it just made a true benchmark in gaming history to be honest. And even if Blue Storm looks better, has higher resolution etc. it´s not as revolutionary as the first one was on the N64. And for the very same reson I also prefer "Super Mario 64" on the N64 over "Super Mario Sunshine" on the GC. While a great game, Sunshine just didn´t WOW me as much as the first time I witnessed "Super Mario 64". I literally lost my mind when I saw Mario jump inside that first underwater ship. I think those fist ever 5 seconds of witnessing the grandeur of "SM64" is forever burnt into my brain. It´s not just about graphics though. It´s about the whole experience. Gameplay, controls, etc. And there can only be one first true 3D console with the first analogue stick ever. And that is undoubtedly the N64. Thus giving us a totally new experience with games such as "Wave Race 64". So these were my 5 cents. :)

    This is the last system they tried to keep up spec wise. But didn't go full force. And then they went out the box full time. God bless them. Hope third parties get their shit together for switch.

    • @MetallicBlade
      @MetallicBlade 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I feel the same. The GC was Nintendo's last system when they gave an actual fuck about staying competitive with the console market. Their last two (and current) systems hardware-wise have been a total joke. Sales figures aside, if they can't have the same 1:1 third-party ports as MS and Sony can... their systems are only good for the first-parties. That's not good enough.

    • @robd9921
      @robd9921 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was also the last Nintendo console before Switch where third parties (the good ones, NOT the Wii ones) even bothered to support Nintendo.

      The most powerful console doesn't get all the games. PS1, PS2, Xbox 360 (it was super close, though), and Wii were all the weakest systems in their generation, and they got lots of 3rd party games lol

      "Tried to keep up" is a little bit of an understatement though. It walks over the Ps2 and arguably has a more powerful cpu over Xbox (intensive 60 fps games like F-Zero GX). Nintendo finally produces an awesome competent machine w/o hardware bottlenecks unlike Snes and N64 and no one buys it, rip lol.

    Seeing the master quest disc made me remember I had a disc that also had Majora's Mask on it. It was a promotional disk for the Gamecube. I think you got it if you pre-ordered the Gamecube. It comes with A link to the Past, Adventures of Link, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask. I believe the Master Quest disc was a promotion for pre-ordering Wind Waker. It contains a demo of WW and the 4-pack disc contains a bunch of trailers for other games.

    Great games you have there, 3 games I highly recommend picking up:
    - Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (Giant Crabs? YES!)
    - R: Racing Evolution (a blend of arcade and sim-style racing with soap opera cutscenes)
    - Simpson's Hit & Run (Grand Theft Auto in the Simpson's world with great writing and cutscenes)
    If you have only played the 1st Burnout on Gamecube, I would also recommend getting the 2nd, it was the first to really exploit the crash mode. Honorable mentions: Beyond Good & Evil (best water), P.N.03 (play it like a SHMUP to understand it), Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy (hidden gem of a 3rd party game, careful of game breaking bugs though)

    There are a few systems that I wish I didnt ignore back in the day, and GameCube is one of them. I mostly played my PS2 or my roommates' xbox. However, I have been playing GameCube more and more. I got my action replay disk and SD card memory card adapter working, so I can use Gameboy Interface for Gameboy Player games, I can also play GameCube game backups that way, I also figured out that 8bitdo's SNES receiver works with Ralphnet's SNES->GameCube adapter, so I can use a Bluetooth SNES controller for Gameboy Player games. Now I just need a hdmi adapter (waiting for Badass Console's version) and I am all set for GameCube greatness.
