    this is a very well made video. everything you need to know is here! the oem sound, a diy walkthrough, and the finished product with revs and take offs. i want to do this very soon.

    Another way is to cut some pipe lengths in half, cover sleeve the perforated sections and weld/screw clamp in place. Saves a lot of time and less risk of messing up a cut or weld.
    +Only have to cut the top casing open , making the mod invisible to police or TUV/MOT/ other regulation inspectors from underneath the car.

    Just did my M3 and it sounds amazing ,really good helpful video . I took a short cut by instead of cutting the two pipes with the less perforated wholes I tag welded the holes that way i only cut the two pipes with more holes on them and it worked great it did save me some time.

    Any change to a stock exhaust system will alter it from factory specs. No back pressure is lost because the back pressure is created in the bends of the pipe. If you watched the video, the bends are in tact. Why would an aftermarket exhaust manufacturer create a similar exhaust to the one in the video if it robbed back pressure and was harmful to the performance? They wouldn't. I highly recommend this modification to any BMW enthusiast.

    Sounds great, but I don't know if I would want to live with my e92 being that loud all the time. Too bad BMW didn't make a bimodal exhaust with the modded sound and the OEM sound. Car looks great too. What size tires are you running? Just replaced the Pzeros on mine with michelin super sports, 255 fronts, 275 rears. Can't believe what a difference. feels like a whole new car., and no more road noise.

    • @ButterNutter37

      Michelin Super Sports are where it's at brother! Incredible tires, IMO the best money can buy. In terms of a summer street tire that can stand up to a day or two at the track, nothing else really compares. I run Michelins on all my cars! Try the Cup 2 if you really want an eye popper!

    probably easier to do a muffler delete since thats what you ended up doing, that way you keep your stock muffler so if you want to sell the car you can put it back to stock

    • @AudiR8-RCA
      @AudiR8-RCA  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +luigi90210 if you just pulled the exhaust off completely it would not run correctly and would not sound as good. Anyone that is buying this car will more than likely want the modified exhaust anyway.

    • @halo3pownage
      @halo3pownage 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +honda1rca if you're doing what he did which was remove the muffler part of the muffler and weld in straight pipes in place of the pipes with baffles, you're basically doing the same thing except it looks like you have a muffler. it's a lot cheaper and easier for you at that point to just delete the mufflers all together and it will flow better than looping it around inside what was your muffler.

  • @Joblessparadise
    @Joblessparadise 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What size is the pipe you used in place of the perforated stuff ? Planning to do this soon. Thanks for the good video.

  • @seanpaul3050
    @seanpaul3050 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This job is a mess. No need to cut the pipes inside. Wrap the perforated sections with aluminium exhaust wrap. Followed by cloth exhaust wrap. Then add some stainless steel jubilee clips to hold it all in place. Also doing it this way, you will not have to cut both sides of the muffler.
    The outer case of the muffler should only be welded with stainless steel mig weld, because the muffler is made of stainless steel. No paint necessary. It will not rust.
    You don't have to cover all of the perforated sections. Leave about 25% uncovered or it will sound way too loud.

I intend to have it done by a professional for my M3 in France, but i have a question: is there a risk for anything, for the engine or the performance of the engine, the collector etc ... as the data of the manufacturer are changed? Nice work - I have been doing some research on this mod, and most just cut out two of the 4 pipes. I see you did all 4. Does this make it significantly louder?

    • @AudiR8-RCA
      @AudiR8-RCA  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason Bedford Yeah, I noticed there are a couple different ways to do this mod. Since all 4 pipes have holes in them I figured we might as well cut them all out and replace all 4 while we had the exhaust opened up. It turned out great but not sure if it made it significantly louder since I couldn't really compare.

      I hate check engine lights and thankfully never had one come on so no it shouldn’t throw any codes. I also never had a dyno test done before or after so I’m not sure on bhp but it sure felt faster!

      mcp07335i thanks man, yes it’s a lot of work but it’s worth it. If u do a muffler delete it’s going to sound like ur driving around with no muffler.... And you will have zero back pressure which would throw on a check engine light.

    Hi, when welding the covers back on did you have to do them one layer at a time for each side?

    • @AudiR8-RCA
      @AudiR8-RCA  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jonathan Lei we spot welded them together in several spots then spot welded them in several spots to the rest of the casing after closing the two flaps. So tack them together in a few spots then fold them back down and tack the two covers already tacked together to the rest of the housing where it is cut. After it's tacked all the way around you can weld the seams. If you dont do all the spot welds in the correct order, you will risk the sheet metal shrinking and warping when you go to weld the seams again.

      +Stefano Conterio I don't believe the fiberglass is a requirement to go back in before you weld it back together but I put it in just to be safe. My reasoning was there could be a chance for a "pingy" sound if we left it out.

    You don't need to cut off both sides of the backbox, just the top. The pipes you weld in do not need to be airtight! The ones before defo were not! Just weld what you can see. A bit of exhaust escaping is no different to what the original exhaust was doing ;). Good vid tho

      @AudiR8-RCA  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I don't think it needs to be air tight but I wanted it as solid as possible for maximum results. Probably doesn't sound much different doing it ur way tho and is a huge time saver as well. Good work.

    This does make you loose back pressure though!

    • @AudiR8-RCA
      @AudiR8-RCA  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rafik Jabbour this may be true but if it is I don't think it's enough to make a difference. I've had this mod done for over a year and not a single check engine light or any performance issues. If you are cutting off the exhaust entirely that might make a difference. Also, we did not cut off the cats, they are still on the car and the air still flows thru all the natural bends throughout the exhaust designed by BMW.

    • @rafik_jabbour
      @rafik_jabbour 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You won't notice the difference until you race another car and find out that you're losing a car length at high speed. Not major difference but if you're a performance freak you should know that. Sounds awesome nevertheless. Check my setup, it's in one of my videos. Not the best in terms of performance either but I went for the sound.

  • @mikeneuman4042
    @mikeneuman4042 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I respect the whole DIY. Those welds will fail at some point. those are some of the ugliest welds I've ever seen. I'm not saying that I could weld better than that. I would rather pay someone to save the cost that is going to rear it's ugly head at some point.

    • @AudiR8-RCA
      @AudiR8-RCA  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I seriously doubt those welds will fail b/c there isn't any stress on those weld points whatsoever. The welds only need to support the weight of the piping itself which is only a few ounces. In terms of it being ugly who really cares because once you button it up you can't even see them. Let's say worst case scenario even if they somehow did fail the only thing that would happen is air would leak out into the exhaust canister which is how it was designed in the first place. In my opinion it's hard to justify paying someone to do this mod unless you don't have access to a welder or know someone who does.

  • @BrokeVetGarage

    no difference to just cut the muffler off and weld piping back.....way easier too.

    • @AudiR8-RCA
      @AudiR8-RCA  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there would be a lot of difference. One disadvantage would be the high probability of throwing a code and having to deal w a check engine light from not having the proper back pressure. Also the sound is going to be extremely loud doing it that way.
