  • The mystery of the silver eyes has been on everyone's mind for a long time now. There have been many theories as to what the silver eyes are and where they came from, and so I am here to offer yet another Silver eyes theory, one stemming from The Gods, Magic and ultimately Anti Magic.

    Magic was a gift from the god of darkness to humanity so it would make sense that the power of the god of light in the silver eyes would harm magic users the same way it harms Grimm

    Personally, I think that it was the god of darkness who gave humans magic since right before he destroyed the world he said "My own power...used against me." And it has been shown that the Silver eyes was also used by the god of light during the fight with his brother.
    This makes me think that the silver eyes is capable of killing or at least wounding, both Ozbin and Salem. Most likely Salem intends to use Ruby to kill Oz permanently.

      That is a theory that I have had for a while now. We know that Salem is immortal and is corrupted and that is what allows her to control the grimm. But as the corruption goes I think that basically means that she herself is part grimm. So, while I don't necessarily think Ruby's eyes can kill Salem, I do think that they are the key to reverting her back to her human form.

    Quite a few of us in the FNDM have had this same theory for a while now; I first thought of it in Volume 3 and it solidified for me in volume 5, during the Battle of Haven, where we see that even just the flare-up of the Silver Eyes Power from Ruby (before she got hit from behind by Emerald) was enough to not only hurt Cinder's Grimm arm (We see and hear Cinder grimacing and groaning in pain while grabbing her missing/replaced arm, and to me, it looked like that arm actually dissolved for a while), but Cinder's flaming eye-halo dissipates, indicating that her Maiden Powers, which are pure magic, have been "turned off" as well, at least temporarily.
    Since the only connection that we know of between Grimm and the Maiden Powers is that they're both magic-based, it makes sense to believe that the Silver Eyes Power affects not only the effects of magic, but magic itself, and since we have been told/shown that the Silver Eyes Power is related to the gods themselves, it makes sense that the gods, who wielded magic to create Remnant and everything in it, would know how to "erase", "cancel out", or nullify that magic, and be able to utilize that power as easily as they wield magic.
    It's like a writer knowing how to easily use both the graphite lead and the rubber eraser ends of his/her pencil to achieve the desired end result, even though the lead and the eraser do opposite things.
    Two (small) points of contention:
    1) The Silver Eyes are NOT "triggered by the Grimm"; they are triggered by the earnest need to protect, from no matter the source, Grimm or otherwise, as explained by the writers through Maria's teachings to Ruby (and us).
    2) The Silver Eyes are not "mainly an anti-Grimm weapon"; they are a weapon against all magic-based things threatening humanity. That's like saying that if a person has a pistol which they use mainly to crack walnuts with the pistol-handle, then a pistol is mainly an anti-walnut weapon.
    Also, "the gods have magic which allows them to fly off into... god knows where..." I see what you did there! 😁👍

    I’ve heard this theory many times but the issue I have with it is that there’s nothing currently in the series to substantiate it. So far in the series we’ve been explicitly told that silver eyes affects Grimm and every instance of their use has proved this true. And so, I would argue that Salem’s vol 4 comments reflect more on the fact that Cinder merged with a Grimm in order to steal maiden powers as opposed to the powers themselves being susceptible to silver eyes. Case in point, when Ruby activated her eyes in Vol 5 Cinder was temporarily paralyzed whereas Raven was completely unaffected even though she was within the flash of light. So unless we’re told or shown some merging different in the series I can’t get behind this theory.

  • @andersonmorris5991
    @andersonmorris5991 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I assumed that Cinder was affected by the Silver Eyes because of how she obtained the Fall Maiden's powers. In a flashback in Volume 3, we see Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury attacking Amber. Cinder puts on a white glove with a red sigil on it, and it sprouts a weird insectoid-Grimm-looking thing that drains Amber of her magic. The power continues draining away until Qrow arrives and destroys the Grimm-bug; the glove dissolves (possibly due to the Grimm-bug's death) as a tattoo appears on Cinder's back. Perhaps the glove was made by Salem's Grimm magic, and the Silver Eyes recognized that and attacked Cinder because of it.

    While I wouldn't call it "anti-magic," it makes sense for it to be hostile to the God of Darkness's power. Additionally, I rather doubt it was the work of evolution, all things considered, but I agree with the anti-magic part.

    I always thought Silver Eyes were a "gift" from the God of Light, instilled within Ozma's bloodline (i.e. his offspring & their descendants) per his "resurrection". The GOL can vanquish his brother's creations (i.e the Grimm & the magic he gifted to humanity), much like how light vanquishes darkness. So SE can vanquish the same things (in this case the Grimm & the Maidens-- who have "old magic" passed to them by Salem--who's the lone survivor of the previously magically imbued humans--thanks to the Pools of Grimm). I'd say SE are more "counter dark magic" than anything else & were a "divine gift", since Ruby stated the GOL used his eyes to vanquish Grimm.

    Finally, an ‘answer’ to why Ruby’s eyes hurt Cinder at the fall of Beacon. This whole time I’m like ???? Cinder wasn’t a Grimm yet??

    • @infiniteaj8688
      @infiniteaj8688 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But she was. We literally saw her use a Grimm to steal the Fall Maiden powers. That means that Grimm was directly connected to her, and was probably somewhere inside of her body. Hence, the Silver Eyes hurt her because she is in essence part Grimm. It's the same thing with Haven. Besides, if this were true, Raven would have suffered similar injuries when Ruby used her powers at Haven.
      I thought that was pretty well established...

  • @danewood1115
    @danewood1115 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Wait!!! I just thought of something!!! What if the silver eyes were created by ozpin from the relic of creation? Eye color seems to be genetic in the RWBY universe. Ruby’s mother had silver eyes, the Grimm Reaper use to have silver eyes and she said she learned how to use them from her father who also had silver eyes. I think Ozpin took a group of the best warriors and gifted them with silver eyes. When he did this, silver eyes immediately became a dormant gene. It makes sense to me, does it makes sense to anyone else?

    • @PhoenixNight
      @PhoenixNight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmmm it's possible but it depends on what the relic of creation is capable of. I don't know if the relic could create something that has never existed in the world of Remnant but there's also the fact that the silver eyes resemble the god of light's power and the relics were created by the god of light. it's interesting for sure but I also just came up with a different theory for the origin of the silver eyes that I might make into a video soon...

    I'm not sure if I'm on board with the origin of the SE because (imo) it would be weird if they really come from "nothing" (aka totally random mutations between countless generations) given the importance that they have.
    However, I'm totally on board with their effect and them being anti-magic. Because, as you said, there's still this little line in V4 that links the maiden powers to the SE.
    So it's either a misformulation of the dialogue when the writers weren't exactly sure of the whole thing back in V4, or the two really are connected.
    Plus, as some people pointed out, the GoD said that magic was a gift from him to the humans. And since he also created the Grimm, the SE could totally be an "anti-GoD-creations".
    The origin of them would still be unsure but a friend of mine (and other people I'm sure) suggested that they could come from Ozpin and his various "descendents" because he may have some GoL powers in him (that causes the reincarnation) and that could have been passed down to his children. Then, this semblance of power from the GoL would be effective against the creations of the GoD, and that's that ^^
    And that was another wall of text ><
    Thank you if you had the courage to read that far :)

  • @twinodoom

    Specifically, it is could be Anti-Dark magic. It targets things specifically created by the God of Darkness. It didn't affect past Salem or the God of Darkness himself, just the Grimm in the area. Cinder being affected to the point that she lost parts of her body that weren't visibly related to the Grimm is unusual, drawing questions of if she was always fused with Grimm or if the Maiden powers were connected to the God of Darkness somehow.

    It would make more sense that the silver eyes can destroy destruction, aka the grim. Also, as Maria stated, the silver eyes are the same powers used by the God of light. So assuming this, since Salam is an immortal being that is purely made of destruction, when Salam "banged" Ozma, i think the powers took parts of Oz's immortality, only transferring the magic from person to person, but also Salam's "destruction", and her weakness to the silver eyes. Thoughts?

    • @neogemn9592
      @neogemn9592 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      She became immortal because she fell on the lake of creation.
      And I think the silver eyes only works on mortal magic and common Grimm.
      Why?
      Because Destro-Bro didn't put much effort on making beowulves, ursas, nevermores, etc. Wyvern and Leviathan on the other hand were possibly made with more effort so when they turned into stones they didn't die immediately.
      It may work on magic that magic users, Salem included, but not on the magic of the gods themselves including the curse of immortality.
      If this is true then Ruby can remove the "destruction" that corrupted Salem but not the curse that was inflicted to her. In other words silver eyes cannot kill Salem and she never will be so don't count on it.
      Only Salem herself can lift it if she realise her mistakes.
      Sorry for the the inconvenience.

    I think that the silver eyes as a gift from the god of light simply oppose everything the god of darkness has created: grim and magic
    also I agree more with a different theory you have in that the silver eyes are hereditary from successors of maidens
    I simply prefer that more because of the impmications it has for the characters itself
    it just sounds super cool and epic to have someone be a descendant of one of the maidens

    Vol 7 Ch 13, Penny was in the room when Ruby used her silver eyes attack against Cinder. Cinder rocket jetted away in time to avoid damage. Penny, having just gained Fria's winter maiden magic powers, was not affected by Ruby's attack.
    It is also poorly defined how much damage grimm creatures get from each attack.

    In many fantasy settings, anti-magic is a form of magic; a spell that can be cast to block other spells. The idea that silver eye powers are a form of anti-magic explains why Cinder took such a blow atop Beacon academy. But my problem with that is the fact that her entire left side was just devastated. It seems she had to replace her arm with that of a grim, and her eye was lost entirely. I don't know if that would result simply from an anti-magic attack.

  • @blueblade6174
    @blueblade6174 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    On one hand, aura and dust are a fraction of what magic once was, so silver eyes should have been able to affect those as well if they really were anti magic. On the other hand, silver eyes might simply be some form of a specific anti magic. All magic consists of elements from both dragons, creation, destruction, knowledge and choice. Perhaps the Silver Eyes affect magic with much higher concentration of darkness/destruction, thus Grimm and Maiden powers. It's like an anti elemental spell, like what that Lion guy from the Seven Deadly Sins movie tried to use against Merlin (spoiler alert: it didn't work cause Merlin is beyond OP).

  • @ml5347

    My problem with this theory is that Raven is a Maiden too and she wasn't affected by Ruby's eyes. I also think Oscar still has enough magic in him that he might have been affected by Ruby's eyes if they affected just magic in general, and possibly even Qrow since magic allows him to transform.
    I think even before Cinder had the Grimm arm, she took Grimm into her, at least that beetle-in-a-glove thing, before taking the first part of the previous Fall Maiden's powers.

    It could be based on intensions instead of just magic. I think Cinder's intentions being pure greed and to hurt whoever she wants to get that power. Grimm's intensions are pure evil. So purely wicked that they can only conceive destruction. The greater the evil intensions the greater the affect on the being. Grimm turn to stone, and
    cinder was burnt and lost her arm.

    I started theorizing a few days back myself about this, and i believe pretty much the same thing but i also think that the silver eyed warriors could also deflect and or absorb magic and nullify it or charge themselves with it although i don't believe in my charge theory that much for it would make ruby beyond unfair vs cinder if that was the case.
    My second theory to add on here is that silver eyed warriors could maybe summon forth blades of pure light (like noctis arminger from FF15) but these blades wont hurt the living only the grimm and when the blade makes contact with the grimm the impact zone would start to be petrified but not completely only the zone where the blade struck or when the target is small enough it would completely petrify as long as the blade is embedded in the target.

    Ok, I don't think SE are product of evolution. God of Darkness, state dhe wipe dout ALL humanity, expect Salme. So there was no way for new humans to evolve with resitance to magic, since there was nothign that activly used magic against them. Yes, they faced Grimm, but they were more of physical threat.
    I belive that SE might come from Ozpin descnedants (well, from his hosts).

    If the silver eyed warriors are such a biological and environmental advantage and we know they're genetic why aren't they more common?

    Are they descended from Salem and Ozzy?

      The children of Ozzy and Salem are not only the four Maidens, but their children are the parents of the first silver eyes. A defense mechanism to ward off Salem. After all, she tried to kill them in her rage.

    Theory debunked by Raven, Jinn, and Oscar being unaffected despite being magical themselves.

      Exactly what I thought!
      The silver eyes seems to be exactly the same as what the god of light used to kill all the Grimm when he transformed into the dragon of light!
      That only affected the Grimm and not the god / dragon of dark! So it does not appear to even be anti-dark magic!

      They could be above it also it wasn't targeted at raven.

    • @grantlangkamp1909

      Or oscar/ozpin and etc. It wasn't targeting them

    Also gonna keep doing this. You miss used "Dimensions" wrong. you are thinking of the word Realm/world. Dimensions just has to do with, length, height, depth/width

    If that’s the case... What if Silver eyes aren’t the only form of anti magic?
