Update: I found a way to modify the BM Infidel. I plan on posting a video on how to do it in the near future, surprisingly it now has less play than any of my OTFs.

I think it’s ridiculous benchmade is charging $450 for D2 and eh action. Microtech for me

I’m with you on that one. S30V is a step up from D2 but S30V isn’t the super steel it was 10 years ago. There’s no reason they can’t use M390 or something comparable for the $450+ they charge.

Yep. The newer ones are s30v. I don't buy Benchmade anymore. They act like s30 and g10 are the best you can get, and they charge accordingly. One of the last benchmade knives I bought was the AFO 2. I hated it, and tried to return it. I am so happy now , because it's one of my favorite knives. I tried beating the hell out of it and it just kept coming back for more. It was 240$ it has 154cm. I absolutely love 154 and on a knife like that I think it's a good way to go.

@@THExDUDEx8624 I got the afo 2 also and yeah I hated it at first. I sold it to my dad because he liked it. A couple years later after he beat the heck out of it and gave it back to me for some reason. I carry it everyday for work and it’s an incredible knife. 154cm is awesome

dang that infidel does wiggle quite a bit! thanks for comparison!

Thank you brother! Just be aware that Microtechs can have a fair amount of wiggle as well. I posted a video of the Gen III but to be fair, Microtech says this isn’t normal and offered to do warranty work. The Infidel, however, will wobble no matter what. A Microtech varies. Take care and thanks for the comment!
Edit: there are mods that I’ve done to my infidel which significantly helped the wobble.

I can’t speak on behalf of the infidel but I have both a Dirac delta and the smaller Dirac, and having used both for ages I couldn’t ever see myself buying an infidel. The price seems quite high, when you can get a Dirac delta for over 100 dollars less with m390, and if you are able to get one that’s a “factory second” because of a cosmetic issue, ( mine has a small spot inside the fuller that is a bit darker ) you can get a completely working and still under warranty the same as any other microtech would be DD for like $280, almost half the price of a normal infidel. Having a blade larger blade length to handle ratio is always desirable but at the cost of more blade play where it seems like the blade may bend too far, it’s not worth it to me, as well as the handle looking like, (although it may not be) less ergonomically pleasing for at least my preferences. The .16 inches extra length of blade (total length not cutting edge) isn’t worth the less secure feeling blade lockout, and even with higher tolerances I’ve never had a single misfire in the over 3 years that’s I’ve carried and used a microtech (Dirac, Dirac delta, ultratech, Exocet) every day. The button on the infidel being less sloped and less textured seems like it would be less effective when wearing gloves or having wet hands because there is less to grip into either said wet finger or glove, compared to the Dirac (and all microtechs) button that has a more aggressive angle and texture. In the end of course it comes down to personal preference, and someone may have just as many issues with the DD as I do the infidel, but great video and apologies for the essay. ✌️

Thank you for your input and comment! You have very good points. Between the two brands, I think Microtech is easily the winner. I ended up modding my Infidel and now it has a tighter lock up than any Microtech but even then - it’s still a high price point for what you get. Now that Benchmade is making $400 plastic OTFs I’m pretty much done with them. The Dirac Delta is a great knife and like you said, they’re fairly cheap on the used market. Take care!

    Dirac no question

Isn't the infidel supposed to be a wobbly blade so the tolerances aren't so tight? Tight tolerances mean jamming. People say the microtech jams and doesn't release the blade.

Not necessarily, there’s a sweet spot. You’re right that if it’s too tight it can cause friction and then failure unless you have a specific mechanism like the G&G Hawk Deadlock or Microtech Atreus. Microtechs tend to be reliable but have more slop than necessary. I just modded my Infidel to where it has a much, much tighter lock up and so far it’s reliable. Thanks for the comment!

      It’s a combat knife . I mean, they both are technically .
But tighter tolerances will create issues if you are in a situation where you can’t clean it as often or if it gets dirty … The tighter tolerances will become a problem .
I think that’s why benchmade made theirs a bit “ Sloppier”
