    I like it. I carried a large G10 Espada for 10years. I carry a xl vaquero now. Because my Espada is very hard to replace its the cts-xhp model. The dagger is very slim i like that. Especially with that reach. That is the type of knife you carry but don't really use. Of course i carry 3 knives. Survived a few attacks living in Baltimore city. Guns are only allowed for certain people. I don't have the complexion for the connection. Courts don't care about justice no more. Least not in my experience. So dirty work gets you home at night.

    Microtechs QC is garbage. I have a 2/2024 cypher 2 and the edges on each side are no where near symmetrical. The top grinds on the blade are off from the left right to the right side. I sent photos to Microtechs customer service and they told me that my knife fell within their range of what passes QC. I told them I have over $15k in my collection and never in my years have I received a brand new knife whose blade looks different when comparing both sides of the blade. Absolute garbage QC. ..couple their QC with the blade play on a microtech and all you have is a nice looking toy. Nothing both a knife for the douche canoes.

      Thank you for your comment brother! Of course, I completely understand where you’re coming from. I got a 12/2023 Combat Troodon Gen III and was completely disappointed. I hate that so many people have had this experience, there’s absolutely no excuse for a “high end” knife, as they claim to be, to come in that condition. Unfortunately so many people make excuses for them rather than calling them out. Have you contacted them at all? I’d love to hear what they say.

      @@GigiEDCthis cypher II isn’t even my first microtech. I’ve had issues with all of them. I tried a diraq in like September 2021.. the blade went limp every other deploy. Returned. Fast forward to November 2022, purchased 2 Makoras and a combat troodon. Both makoras had HORRIBLE grinds and one deployed like garbage. The combat troodon was too difficult to deploy so I ended up returning everything. The new drivetrain in the Cypher II is a GREAT update and for that, I’ve kept the knife but I definitely won’t throw another dime at Microtech.

    I made the mistake of carrying my Infidel with change in my pocket and and had a dime lodged in the handle and had to take it apart to dislodge it and get it out and the same screw that you put lock tight on fell out when Disassembled the knife When I reassembled I tightened it good and it really took the Wobble out of it wish I had put lock tight on it now I was also was having a problem with it not wanting to properly retract when I tighten that screw also seem to fix that problem too my advice to anyone carrying an Infidel is to make damn sure you don’t carry coins in the pocket your carrying the knife in I guarantee you will have coins getting stuck in the handle I really like the infidel but for the money I paid for it it has too many small problems that makes it not worth the price bench made could do better and fixing those problems as many have complained about them but they seem to ignore them

    The biggest question is not the “play” factor but the reliability of deploying the blade. I just bought the Gen 3 Scarab 2 at blade show 2024 and there are some tolerances in button and blade and it’s a $530 knife. It’s just the way it is guys. However it’s dependable. That’s what counts and I love it. It’s my second microtech blade and I’ll buy more in the future.

    • @GigiEDC
      @GigiEDC 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree completely, the blade play here wasn’t the issue although I have noticed my pre-2020 Microtechs are all more solid than my new ones. The issue here was the crooked blade holes and overall decrease in quality that I’ve seen over time. Take care and I hope you enjoy your new scarab!

    If Microtech really cared, if other people made products that resemble theirs, then they would put more of these halos out on the market. General motors cannot get mad at me if they don’t have any cars for sale and I happen to buy a Ford.

      That’s my stance here as well. I can understand them being upset about the Combat Troodons, Scarabs, etc. but they’re doing themselves a disservice here. I can tell you my experience with sending a brand new Microtech UTX-85 back to them for a ridiculously stiff firing spring was a disaster. From what I’ve experienced, MT’s quality has gotten better since making this video but their customer service is still famously bad. If you do decide to buy one and receive a defective one, return it to the dealer immediately instead of contacting MT. You’ll end up waiting 2 months (literally) and by the time you get it back the window to return it will have passed and there’s no guarantee it’ll be fixed. Then you’ll be stuck with it. I will say, the last knife (amphibian) I got from them has been solid. Take care!

    Ive got a small size genuine troodon and a full size vespa clone. The genuine knife ive had for 3 years and with maybe 8 months of dedicated use, the springs now sometimes fail to fire the blade all the way out. By comparison, the vespa has way more power when firing. I've had it longer and it never fails to deploy. I just dont see the value in the real deal...

      I hear you! I love having the genuine model but Vespas are my EDC for various reasons. My Vespa Scarab is by far my favorite OTF and if I drop it, so what? It was 1/4th the price of my genuine model. If has virtually no blade play, has M390 steel and it’s never misfired. I genuinely enjoy every Vespa I have and I’ve had less issues, well 0 issues, with them compared to my authentic Microtechs. Hey my friend, I’ll add the link below. The non-serrated dagger edge is hard to come by at the moment but there should be more available in the near future. “China High-End EDC” is the store I typically use on DHgate or AliExpress but there are others that sell Vespa products. Be aware of the $50 Gen IIIs for sell, they’re good as well but they aren’t what’s in this video. a.aliexpress.com/_mruwLXE

    It's gotten a lot better, but one of the big problems with the Chinese clones isn't necessarily the construction of any particular example, it's that you never know what you're going to get. I have a few clones and a few real MTs. Obviously with the real MT you know exactly what you're getting every time. I've had clones show up without the springs installed, with a plastic body instead of aluminum, wrong dimensions, finish, or hardware style for the knife they're cloning, etc. Then if you actually get a good one, which happens, especially with recent Ultratech clones, you can't decide a year later to get another, because the listing and original seller are long gone.

      @GigiEDC 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You’re absolutely right. When it comes to the counterfeit market, quality ranges wildly. If I find a good brand and seller I generally stick to them. Vespa, HiFinder, Miker and Jufule tend to be the most reliable in my experience. The pages are always being taken down as you said but from my experience, emailing them helps a lot. My Gen 3 rattles the same as this. My Hellhound Signature Series, Signature Series Delta Frag Combat Troodon, Signature Series Scarab 3, UTX-85, Magnacut and m390 ultratechs all have 0 to barely noticeable play. The longer blade has to have something to do with it. I edc the Gen 3 half serrated, even with blade play it still takes a beating and no issues. Just got home from running some errands and my elderly neighbor was struggling with some boxes, so my Gen 3 just got some more use cutting through plastic packing straps and cardboard like nothing. Blade play stays the same after use, it doesn't get any better or worse, so I guess it just is what it is.

    On the Vespa how does it hold an edge? And how is it to sharpen? Most if these clones, you can’t sharpen because it is too soft.

    • @GigiEDC
      @GigiEDC 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’d say the Vespa is really comparable to the genuine model actually. I haven’t sharpened my genuine M390MK Gen III but I have sharpened my M390 Gen II and other M390 knives many times. They’re both tough to sharpen and I can’t really say if one is softer than the other. Now, every other clone besides Vespa that I’ve had has soft steel that’s easy to sharpen, takes a sharp edge but dulls very quickly (HiFinder, etc). Vespa seems to actually use the steel advertised and they do a good job with their heat treat, there are some independent tests that compare them. I saw one on Reddit fairly recently. I hope this helps!

      Maybe 5 years ago but most clones that cost over $40 are using quality steel. The twilight years of the American knife manufacturing sector as a whole is not looking good. Wish it wasn't the case but we got beat in our game and we let it happen

    • @GigiEDC
      @GigiEDC 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Unfortunately I think you’re right. Even $40 clones are using 7075 aluminum for the body compared to 6061 used by many American makers. I’ve dropped clones and genuine MTs, for example, and it’s absolutely obvious that the aluminum is better quality on the clones. There’s still a lot of clones out there that use poor quality steel but there’s plenty that don’t. People assume they’re all pot metal but it’s just as easy to obtain M390 or other higher quality steels in China. It really is impressive what they do for the price. My Vespa Scarab M390 was $170, my genuine Scarab was $600. I sold my genuine Scarab after getting the Vespa.

    I’m super curious who buys the fake crap. Doesn’t make sense to me, but I can give to shits about what others think. All I can assume is it’s cheap a-holes that want to be able to tell people they own something?!?! It really makes no sense to me cause you know you are getting a fake, and you know you are buying it. Now those that get ripped off, completely different, but that’s why I just buy new. If I want a knife. I buy the new one from reputable dealers.

    Don’t know what everyone is expecting from mass produced production level knives. I own a gen 2 combat troodon and the firing switch has some play in it, is it the end of world? No. Was the pocket clip crooked? Bought a tool bit and fixed it myself. The customs wouldn’t exist with the tighter tolerances if people didn’t buy the production models. The only problem is most of us here can’t afford the exorbitant prices for the customs and are stuck with production models. I’ll say this, the 500$ price tag was worth ever penny. It hasn’t malfunctioned in the two years I’ve owned it. Remoil and a blast of compressed air each month and it still fires like the day it left the factory.

    • @GigiEDC
      @GigiEDC 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      To be fair, the Gen II Combat Troodon is supposed to have switch play as it has a spring underneath the switch unlike the Dirac. As for what people should expect, I’d say for the price issues like this are unacceptable. Particularly when there are issues that can’t be fixed by the buyer (incorrectly drilled blade holes, etc.) As for the custom Microtechs, from my experience and the experience of others there’s absolutely no difference in the tolerances. My custom CT was no different in that respect to my production models. I thought it would’ve been too honestly. It was one reason I purchased it and I know EdgedMindset thought the same too. Again, just my experience. Take care and thanks for commenting!

    Your story of instant dulling sounds like edge drag to me. If the knife's geometry isn't right the edge will ride on one of the latches or on the handle track itself. Given that tape isn't very dulling, even against a crap heat treat, that sounds like what might be happening to you. I bought two microtechs. First one I thought must be some kind of un-funny joke it was so bad. Bought a second and it was even worse. And it isn't just aesthetics and fitment, the heat treats on both is remarkably poor. Edge geometry is also pretty questionable. We're these made as cutting tools or toys? Will not be buying a third. I did buy a Kershaw Livewire and (from my sample size of 1) have been extremely impressed. Every single aspect is better. From fitment to edge retention to blade geometry. How does Kershaw do it for half the price?
