PRC Video Series: How to Introduce A Dog and A Cat

Bringing home a new dog or cat is likely going to be a very fun and exciting experience for the entire family. In this video, we learn how to facilitate positive and rewarding introductions between our furry family members.

Tips helped and worked on second day. After they both were familiar with one another scents.
Initially had the cat roam thru home then removed him & let the dog roam same area.
Next moved to a solid door that the cat was able to stick his paws underneath. Brought the dog over and he wasn’t surprised by the cat noise behind the door
Then used normal command with treats …like stay down held treat as I opened the door and the dog listened & ignored the cat entering room 😺… then moved to leftover steak to reinforce the treats while the cat hung around and brushed up against my self and dog. Dog was precise & fed lots of steak 🥩🐶🐱

I’m going to try this. My two dogs (Jack Russell and Corgi/ dachshund mix) are 13 and 9 and have been with my two 5 year old cats since day one. My dogs have been around cats all 9 years of me having them. Now we just recently went to pick up my girlfriend American pit Bull who’s a good boy but a cat chaser. We’ve gradually had him and my dogs interact but we’ve been nervous about the cats. Especially with him being so big and a chaser. One of my cats has been hiding since he’s entered the home. My other cat may be up to it but my girlfriend and I are nervous. So I’m praying this will help us both.

I am currently doing that now. My boyfriend has a pit he’s 2 I think. He has the living room n kitchen. Me and cat have bathroom n bedroom. It’s pretty roomie. Cat hissed at him so we are just keeping them separate. Will try again later. Dog is pretty friendly overall, but the cat lol smh

I once tried to introduce a Pit Bull to a kitten but unfortunately it attacked the feline and died. The kitten got stuck in its throat.
