They add accessories for gamera rebirth and sell it for 130+ dollars but you have to pay 140 dollars for Godzilla minus one and he comes with nothing?💀
They should at least add tanks and or that plain at the end of the movie. Maybe make an alternate head piece of the top of his head being torn off then the figure might be more worth it for that price🦧

For those who didn’t understand he’s not saying this figure is bad he’s saying this is what they were capable of doing the whole time and it exposed the laziness shma has been putting out in the recent past. Such as the MV and shin and Ultima figures.
Honestly, As a kaiju fan, it disappoints me when good quality figures like SHMA cost an arm and a leg in terms of price,
while the cheaper alternatives look like crap. But when even SHMA can't deliver on painting, sculpting and articulation,
it makes me question why I would even buy them? Especially when parts fall off, like with my Mecha-King Ghidorah's bottom jaw and tail.
Oh I understand that’s the point he was trying to make, but saying it’s the worst release ever is not the way to go about it. He is just trying to be next level and heady, and failing miserable at it.
@@thirty3255 Honestly, the fact he put a "?!" in the thumbnail, came across as him asking a question, rather than him calling the figure bad. So I was hoping this Gamera figure was good(which it is).
This is the standard that SHMA should always be striving for. Their figures in the past have been pretty disappointing and it shows with the lack of paint and inaccurate sculpts of the figures. They have gotten really lazy over the years and seeing how good this Gamera looks is a testament to what they can achieve if they get heads out of their butts.
Not to mention outrageous pricing of these figures. It’s to the point where hiya does a better job with making Godzilla/Kaiju figures at half the cost
The reason why they do Gamera perfectly but they don't do much for Godzilla is because Godzilla has enough public to buy it, Gamera has to be top notch so more people will buy it, not because of the kind of unpopular character but because of the sheer quality.
This figure just proves that Bandai has been phoning it in for the last 5-7 years.
Subpar paint apps, loose or tight joints, bad QC and overpriced with no accessories or separate parts.
Hiya Toys is producing similar quality figures with arguably better sculpts and paint apps for half the price of Bandai albeit still with no accessories but for 40-50 bucks, tops, I don't expect them too. I *expect* decent QC and at least a few accessories for an $80- $150 dollar figure.
Your same complaints can be said with the Bandai MMS figures. All the Gamera figures look amazing and the Godzillas barley have any paint details and such I think Shinrobjira was the one that said he thinks Toho just isn’t willing to fork over the money to make good figures and I honestly agree sometimes

But why would Toho be working over money to make good figures? They are the ones selling the license. Bandai is the one who has to fork over the money for the license, design, and production.
Gamera comes in with the hard clutch once again to the surprise of no one. I mean his first release back in 2014 to this day is still top figure contender. I love that turtle boy is getting the love and respect he deserves in figure form. Minus the first 1999 figure. Idk why the more famous kaiju king can’t get this much effort.
I really really hope that this is a preview of better work moving forward. If Bandai Tamashii puts forth this sort of effort moving forward, I think they can weather the Hiya storm, but Steven is absolutely right in holding their flagship IP to a higher standard now that they've proven they care enough to give maximum effort to Gamera.
Gamera: Rebirth was so amazing in my opinion… the ending was so emotional, and Gamera was more powerful and awe-inspiring, I might be picking up 2 of these if I can

I don’t think so, Bandai puts out more than enough great figures every year and the market is more than big enough to sustain both companies, especially since Hiya doesn’t even ship to Japan.

The problem is that because of them having so much good stuff all the time, the bad releases like Shin and battle armor Krillin sting harder because they’ve shown us they can do better than anyone else when they try
The problem is that bandai gets maybe 1 truly good figure every other 5 or 6 figures. And these are figures sold for a premium price in the high double or lower to mid triple digits. That's simply unacceptable.
I think it's because they think Godzilla is so overwhelmingly popular that people will by their figures anyway so they don't have to try as hard, but since Gamera. A. Isn't as popular as Godzilla. B. Hasn't had anything new come out in decades besides this new show coming out soon. C. They have like 2 other Gamera figures. that this release absolutely had to hit.
Bandai kinda seems like the Hasbro of import companies. With their focus split between so many products both premium and not, and their major lines pumping out so much so often it seems like they struggle to maintain a consistent level of quality from figure to figure. Hasbro’s worse on an individual basis don’t get me wrong but it seems Bandai and Hasbro’s approach to the market recently is more similar than it used to be.
In fact all the big companies have been steadily churning out an almost excessive amount of products within the past few years. This is good for the overall market because it keeps it healthy and stimulated but it’s bad for the individual consumer who can’t afford to buy everything they want.
They got awfully lazy with qc when neca lost the license (fuck you playmates. May be better figures than jakks but cmon you didn’t have to hog the license)
When Shin/MV/Ultima look the way they do only for the Gamera and VS series stuff to come out this good, you know where the priorities are

Hopefully this figure is a sign of future releases based on the newest kaiju media being given better attention. Given that minus goji is also overseen by the director, hopefully that one is up to this Gamera’s level quality. This definitely does make you wonder why we got inaccurate figures like G14, shin, Ghidorah and the first release of gamera 1999.
Gamera definitely looks awesome! And you’re definitely right about how those other figures were treated in comparison to Gamera. Now that I think about it…..when was the last time an SH Godzilla came with a new beam effect? I say new and not just a repaint of a former Godzilla’s breath.
I want 2 of him. This is my favorite design & version of Gamera! 🐢
We know Toho charges a shit ton for their IP's, so I wonder if that is a factor at play here. Other lines like Monster Hunter and Gamera, turn out quality figures for fair prices with tight QC and accessories. On the other hand, anything under the Godzilla banner is often plagued with high consumer costs, bad QC and limited/zero accessories. Maybe most of the budget for the Godzilla related stuff goes towards Toho and the IP licence itself, leaving little wiggle room for Tamashii Bandai to work within compared to other SHMA IP. This even applies to the recent MMS of figures too when looking at it.

This is exactly why Hiya will overtake SH monsterarts.. all those repaints and variants using the same mold... While we are still waiting for titanosaurus, king Caesar, jet Jaguar, Megalon, Kumonga and many others from Showa era missing... While Hiya keeps putting out new characters apart from the 3 Godzilla variations.
I love that TMNT group pose towards the end of the review. This is a really nicely painted figure. Sadly I couldn't pre-order him but I guess I have other figures to get at that time so I don't have the budget to buy one.
Absolutely love Gamera and I bought this guy mostly because I want Bandai to see that people are out here wanting more from this franchise, the other reason is that this is a great look for him. I wanted to do the same for the re-release of the G3 Gamera but he was the same price as this brand new Gamera, I couldn’t justify it. Financially it was the smart move because that also made it easier to pass on the Iris figure but now I’m bummed to not be supporting my underdog Kaiju. I’m really hoping we can get better prices down the line, especially with the lack of accessories and paint detail many, if not most, releases have had recently.
Give it a year and a half and Iris big price will go down.
I agree with u big time Steve! How is it the Monstervers Gojis look way off and the Monsterverse King Ghirdorahs too but this Gamera and G3 Gamera (Reissue) Are so much better then those ones that were slapped together for a release of a movie in 2019? And dont give me that they had a short time BS neither. They knew KOTM 2019 was coming like 2 years in advance around 2017 yet I heard they didnt start sculpting them till late 2018. No seriously how is it HIYA Toys listens to feedback from customers but Monsterarts cant? Hiya improved alot from thier GVK Goji with thier new G19 KOTM Figure and now they even added a new GVK Goji with a fixed neck and even more new paint.
Keep up the laziness Monsterarts and this fan will keep his wallet away from u till u get your act together.
Good stuff as always. It's mind boggling how the SHMA Gamera figures only had one dud which recently got completely revamped for a brand new release. Vs the headliner guy and co which has had too many duds for the price point. Looking forward to Iris!!
Just ordered mine yesterday and I'm super excited. Even moreso after watching this video. I'm starting my Kaiju figure collection with this one. Question though, is there a good Pacific Rim line that scales well with these and the Godzilla figs?

I was debating on this Gamera or the rerelease for G3 Gamera. I really like the CHAD design of this one.
I do think you bring up some good points though in the last part of the video. I just recently started collecting Monsterarts last year, and I've been pretty happy with the figures outside of the cost. My Showa Gigan just shipped and man I am SO excited for that figure, but the fact that he costs the same as this Gamera and he lacks accessories does make me scratch my head. Especially since I paid $30 more for Final Wars Gigan and he comes with more accessories than I know what to do with. It's also why I held off from Hedorah until Amazon had him for $130. I didn't feel he was worth $200. I do hope Bandai can figure things out, but that seems to be a common complaint with veteran collectors since the start lol.
I'd love to see a list of names/labels for the other Gamera figures in this video. So I could do some shopping to start my Gamera collection.

I’m hoping to get this and the Godzilla Minus One figure. He looks just as good as the show he’s from (Gamera Rebirth is really good, please check it out)
Many people seem to arbitrarily decide when accuracy does and doesn’t matter. Didn’t most people, even you, adore the new SHF Majin Vegeta despite that figure still having wrong hair? Something that would’ve been an easy fix just like the head on the new Shin? I’m not making fun of anyone because I’m 100% sure I’ve done this too, it’s just something I’ve noticed.
If it’s a good figure, I’ll buy it, simple as that 🤷♂️ it’s not like we’re starved for accurate figures nowadays. Toyotaro MUI Goku, all the SHF Ultraman stuff, basically every SHMA release this year besides the MV and Shin stuff (which are still fine), not to mention Hiya Toys releasing banger after banger since last winter, and the new X-Plus Super 30cm Series or whatever it’s called which is literally using 3D scans of the actual suits.
Maybe if we were still in the Godzilla dark ages where Bandai was our only hope besides maybe sometimes NECA I’d care more, but nowadays with as many options as we have I’m fine with stylized stuff, be it action figures or statues or whatever. Which is why I hope Super7 doesn’t can their Godzilla Ultimates
To the point of Majin Vegeta, yes they can, and I fully expect, them to go back and renew the figure with a better headsculpt, but that would be an SDCC repaint which is not exactly something normally expected to fix or present new things sculpt wise, at least I wouldn't. Yes, the paint is *banging* and it's a great release. However, with Shin, as a direct example, there are how many releases with how many chances to make it better but they didn't?
@@StevensToyReviewsI think that just comes down to big companies becoming more and more lazy nowadays, because sadly everything you said about Shin (which is completely factual) can probably be copied and pasted about multiple companies.
For instance, Mattel has had a lot of chances to fix the heads on many of their figures, mainline and Hammond Collection, but they never bother to, Hasbro has been reusing the same bodies for god knows how long for Marvel Legends figures and they continue to cut costs, and Takara’s Masterpiece Transformers are very hit and miss nowadays too, just look at that Bumblebee Optimus Prime figure.
None of these things would be expensive for any of these companies to fix, all of them have the money and resources to make every single release a 10/10, but they just don’t because lol
I can’t think of many companies who don’t have major problems like that nowadays, which is a little disappointing. Besides NECA that is, sure their Godzilla figures weren’t the best but everything they make nowadays is almost perfect. I don’t even like TMNT but I’d be lying if I said their animated stuff doesn’t look awesome

@@duckquack2000I agree on the neca, yeah the Godzilla stuff wasn't the best but damn they look good, but not all the time, like the original shin release, it's fine but the head looks weird. I've been collecting neca this year and I'm loving how well detailed they go into a lot of their figures. A big problem I've been having with s.h. monsterarts is that the past few releases didn't really come with a lot of accessories or none. To name a few final wars goji , monster x, monsterverse King Ghidorah, showa gigan, monsterverse meca Godzilla, and monster versus Godzilla versus King Kong Godzilla. I've known that some of them have actually been coming with stuff which is cool I just kind of Hope later on the line they keep doing that instead of giving us nothing.

Note to self can't wait to add chonky turtle to the collection. As for what Steven said....wow, that was something to digest slowly, but I don't know what's going on behind closed doors at Bandai so we just have face the facts will definitely seen some gems while also the turds of whatever the make and distributed to retailers.
Man, I finally got mine and it's an absolute dissaster. The joints on all four limbs in almost every segment is tight to the point it's creaking when I tried to move it. The left lower legs can't be move at all, same goes for the upper right arm and the right ankle. All limbs are easy to take off except for the left leg that's just love to get stuck. The left thigh's socket doesn't seem to be attached properly, so it makes it seems like the thigh is loose as hell, rotates at the slightest touch. Also same as Steve, I can't move mine's tongue, and in my case it is also crooked. The tail is nice tho, buttery smooth, not creaky, holds its pose, overall perfect. Just wish the rest of the joint got that memo. I ended up just display it as the flying turtle mode cuz I don't wanna touch those limbs ever again, due to fear of breaking the joint. It was a nightmarish experience as I dunno how to deal with joints for pre-built figures like this. I'm afraid taking it off out of fear of breaking it. I'm used to fiddle with joints on gunpla which is easier to access and take apart. The figure itself is amazing. The paint, the sculpt, the weight, all reflects the price I'm paying. Not the joints tho... I rather have the grenade that is Godzilla Night Color. At least joint popping off easily could be tighten much easier, and it's accessible without fear of breaking it by taking it apart. You have some tips for me, Steve? Considering you've said in past video that you would usually take your figure apart to learn the joints, I figured you might have some advice for me to follow. I'm new to buying monsterarts, so I really felt like I've spend my money on a broken toy. Kinda reinforced my belief that Tamashii just love to screw up their products while charging you a ton. At least with Hiya in all 7 products I own, only one got the tight joint issue. Even then it's just one dumbell joint, not the whole 4 limbs being absolutely stuck.
I have a nice solution for super tight joints, dish soap, Dawn working best. Put a teeny tiny bit of dish soap on a toothpick and rub the soapy end on the tight joint, make sure to work it in there. Then ease the joint, gently coax it to move, and the soap will get rid of any creakiness. Make sure to not overdo the soap, too much will make the joint loose.

My theory:
Toho doesn’t give a fuck about their marketing.
- Only recently, after the monsterverse has become mainstream, have we been getting first party merchandise of godzilla in terms of things outside of action figures
- most of the shmas that arent from the godzilla franchise are magnificent (i.e. monster hunter, all gameras besides 99, etc)
- rocky quality control isn’t exactly exclusive to shma/tamashii, for example look at MMS’ track record within the past 5 years, and look at x plus statues, who advertise themselves as being pretty much 1:1 to the source material when in reality only a fraction of their output lives up to that
- its taken this long to get an international (or at least states side) online godzilla store for first party products
Could very well be wrong but these are just the pieces of the puzzle that create a better picture for me of what it really is
Since tamashii/shma has had a monopoly on articulated godzilla figures up until very recently with the potential rise of hiya, theyve had guaranteed success because they know they are essentially the only option for consumers at this point. And since their highest sales are in Japan as well, they essentially have no reason to doubt their income. No risk of losses = no extrinsic motivation to improve on their product, to which they become comfortable in their mediocrity as theyve done for a while now.
Other properties are different because of how much less they have to work with in terms of merchandise, especially for gamera. For godzilla they dont have to worry because of the sheer magnitude of merch that the franchise has, but in gameras case, the franchise has been dead for nearly 2 decades up until rebirth. Its a rarity to come across gamera merchandise, and especially in action figure form, in this modern era. And as such they have much more to lose if their gamera products flop. This makes it even more confusing for 99 to miss the mark so heavily, but it also makes tamashii/tohos intentions clear, at least to me
I need some Gyaus to go with no my G2 Gamera, maybe even for this guy depending on how prevalent Gyaus are in the show

One of Gamera’s greatest features is his ability to go full saucer mode and no toy has included this feature since a Gamera 67’ Revolvtech toy .

For me, my definitive Gamera was the 1999 version so I went ahead and got the Kyoto version. This new one looks cool but not cool enough for me to pick a copy.

Pretty bad that after Bad paint apps, quality control, and other issues for previous figures, this is the thing that got the most love.... This... Don't get me wrong I LOVE Gamera, he's an underrated kaiju, gets hardly any love, and yet.... This...
I’m pretty sure the fact Gamera is not a big name brand nesscitates the care from his current owners, Becuase they can’t just coast on the popularity of Gamera like Godzilla can.
It feels like Sh Monsterarts fell into complacency overtime, being the only providers of articulated Godzilla figures for an incredibly long time, no competition and a big IP to grab attention allowed them to just do whatever.
And while Gamera is still apart of that same figure brand, Gamera doesn’t have the brand power to just pump out a product people will buy no matter what

no torso articulation on a toy over 100 dollars is a hard sell. sure it's a turtle, it makes *sense*, but its still kind of a let down when you consider an ancient kaiyodo figure half the size(and a third the price) of this one managed to at least give you a chest crunch.

Figure is amazing and a absolute buy, but when you take away all the hype surrounded with this figure it raises a lot and I mean a lot of concerning questions with what’s been happening over the years, like I hate to say it cause it’s very childish but did they really care after all these years? Like you look at the gamera figs they’ve made and they’ve all been bangers except for the OG 99 gamera but redid it with the new head and all, then you look at the Godzilla stuff and lots of them were pretty nice but would either have a little qc issue or a massive qc issue, only been a few solid straight threw releases, even with gigan not that the paint is bad but some engineering, like clear plastic for the wings which are held by a single ball peg, like idk, like when shma shines they fly high man but man can they be within the deepest parts of the trench, and with hiya releasing banger after banger it begs the question going forward how will future releases be and if hiya keeps going I wonder if they’d force competition with shma, I doubt it with the popularity of the line, cause that’s like comparing early ECW to WWE, but idk it’s probably the most interesting time to be a kaiju fan, also keep in mind with hiyas toho license we’ll see where that leads to, anyways after this long rant I can safely assume hank the tank is a banger release

Can agree that this is an amazing figure, and all (excluding one) Gamera figure looks amazing, but their money printer, the main star himself almost gets disappointing look or just good in some.
This figure shows what this line can do if they actually care, and if Toho give the budget to produce them with accessories and better look they'd sell like hot cake.
But only time will tell for now, because I love the line. But I can't overlook some of the laziness they've done.
I am not a Gamera fan, But I got this figure because it is the figure that SHMA should've been producing. Very Accurate, painted well, and lots of articulation. When all these are present, we wouldn't be siding with Hiya aside from being cheap.
But when a cheap version of the same figure has more accuracy and painted well rather than your overpriced stuff that you vomited for the past 5 years without addressing the issues... I don't know why yall even trippin this hard.

The Gigan they rereleased, while came with much more accessories admittedly, still had a VISIBLY inaccurate head sculpt (that also looks real butt ugly, gross), ....yet, they didn't update it either. And that thing was- 150$? Sure, there was probably more inaccuracies in the figure, but a new head sculpt would do the whole thing justice, just the small but effective changes in the end.
I don't know, I'm quite lost at this point.

Looks like he is straight out of the show and I love when Sh can tap into their artwork and really capture that aspect for their figures. but Sh... we're in 2023... There is no reason to be paying over 100$ for figures and receive no affect pieces...(Speaking on Godzilla figures aswell in recent releases) That lil empty box trend is getting old.

Blud cant cope gamera has a better starting figure than most godzilla figures. But gamera(2023), ultima, minus one, shin, and hiyas GvK godzilla are on my list.

Dude, at least Rebirth Gamera is heavily worked on by its source company and not outsourced to an american studio and resulted in a Kaiju that drops practically everything about its source material, from skin texture to sound design. No radiation burn skin, no thickened thighs just elephant legs, no distinct head silhouette, no backstory that relates to anything nuclear in his creation and just kinda existed, heck until KOTM Godzilla didn’t even have its distinct roar or dorsal plates.
I get the point Godzilla is Godzilla but when it’s made by a COMPLETELY different company and changed soo much I really don’t see it as such, especially considering every other non-original Kaiju in the Monsterverse shared the same fate, with Mothra especially not really being anything like the original. At least the more drastic Toho interpretations like shin and ultima do keep themes/design elements of the original.

@@ryaquaza3offical My guy what is even this argument? Godzilla represents nature in the MV, not the dangers of nuclear weapons. Did you forget toho even before the MV existed already had godzilla represent different messages (mostly environmental) outside of his original first one from 1954?. Godzilla is defined by his design, his personality, his abilities and what he represents (regardless of what it may be), all of which are present in MV godzilla.
A different country/company using him DOESN'T define who godzilla is. You're essentially saying godzilla being Japanese is what defines him when there's more to him than his nationality. Same goes to the other toho kaiju of the MV. Only shin kept design/theme elements of gojira which is something both ultima and earth didn't do. The latter literally representing a similar (if not the same) theme as legendary does. Meanwhile ultima is just interdimensional, he doesn't represent any important message relating to nature or radioactive power.
The real GINO is g98 which is why many fans like it as it's own thing, MV isn't in that same boat. Your entire argument sounds closer to what a toho purist would say than anything else. It's like saying *to be a true godzilla fan, you must be Japanese, anyone who isn't Japanese is a false fan* toho was open to Hollywood to handling godzilla as far back as 1983 and are co producing monarch legacy of monsters for legendary.

Why with the clickbait thumbnail dude? If you wanted to rant on the line’s inconsistency, why not make that it’s own video? That whole tangent at the end just overshadows all the praise you gave the figure IMO. Sure, I could’ve clicked off once the review is done but the clickbait thumbnail remains - I highly suggest getting rid of that and changing the thumbnail because some people are going to see that and assume this figure is awful and that could create a domino effect where people pass on it.
I completely well articulated my point on the figure and backed up my point in the thumbnail, and the "tangent" is entirely related to the figure. If someone disregards the figure based off the thumbnail, unfortunately that would not be my issue; that's the equivalent of reading a headline and not the body.
