To seal up a removable panel, what I use is "Composeal". It's actual use is for making shower floors watertight. It's really thin at less than 1/16", is super cheap and available at any home improvement store or plumbing supply house.

i built a fourth order band pass but with a 6.5 inch speaker. Just up the size accordingly. I am using an 80 watt amp i also built. It sounds awesome. I added some blue led's in the back of the port that light up the darkness in the port and wired them to blink to the beat of the music. Thanks for the video. PEACE

I like how clear and concise you were while still being thorough. Some advice on the threaded inserts though, put a couple drops of wood glue on the outer threads so they won’t pull out easily because those tapered inserts are going to pull out of that thin particle board so easily.

  • @erictheboringone5292

I’m pretty sure that you actually have 1/2” particle board instead of MDF. MDF is very tightly compacted and comprised of basically dust sized particulate matter so it won’t have that rough grainy and crumbly texture like particle board. Particle board is compressed and glued like MDF but it’s particulate matter is much larger in size and the particles range in size unlike the uniform particle size in MDF.

Hey there, I like your content and you clearly have a great knowledge, experience and most importantly you have a passion for your trade, so yeah man good job. Now I have heard that while band pass boxes really are amazingly great with the deep bass, and I speak with experience of my own as well with a 12” Sony sub. Mouthwatering bass! Problem was that you didn’t really hear it from outside the car. Also not very stable. I’m looking for something, more like a ported enclosure for nice all round performance. I’m running a Jbl 10” Shallow mount Club1000 which has a nifty switching built on it for switching between 2ohm or 4 ohm as you prefer. I’m rocking that on a Kicker amp, 400rms I think. 2 ohm monoblock. I’m really struggling with space to make use of. I use my van as a private car and also for work, so I can’t use loading space. Is love to chat more if it interests you. I think you’d be interested in my work I’ve done so far. All outside the box thinking to challenge myself to be unique and still maintain my budget limits. Take care, and hopefully you can respond back

I know this video is old. But what I did for my removable panel seal was a sheet of 1/16th cork that was attached to the removable panel with contact cement. On the side facing the box I painted a thin layer of thinned down silicone. it was just regular ge1 silicone that was thinned down with denatured alcohol. it is mixed down to a paint like consistency and painted on. Once the denatured alcohol evaporates semicolon you are left with a 100% silicone coating that is literally bound into the cork fibers because the denatured alcohol also helps it absorb into the cork. I use this combo to act as a seal and also as a binder to hold the cork from deterioration. I've never noticed an air leak or any deterioration of the material or delamination of the contact cement even with multiple disassemblies of the box. I use the same silicone coated cork for gaskets for my speakers as well and I've never had a leak or an issue with breakdown or deterioration. Even used it as a seal on plexiglass viewing windows and terminal cups, again with no signs of deterioration. It's basically just a silicone seal with the cork acting as a compressive lattice. It has worked well for me as a seal for many years.

Maybe it’s my iPad speaker, but I hear a slight underdamped sound in the reflex cabinet. Damping material (fiberfill) would help that. The sound is similar to a small room reverb sound, most probably around the tuning frequency. Also, your reference monitor is a sealed cabinet, right? It naturally won’t have the same extension as a reflex cabinet due to the port’s frequency extension. It’s the physics of speaker design.

He sounds like Steve harvey im just messing around lol but its an amazing video this is also something I've wanted to do but given my age im broke so thats always fun but wouldn't recommend but about the 3 to 1 if u want just loud yes thats the way to go but there will be a very narrow frequency response u may hit 60hz but anything before and after that u dont get a lot of let alone loud im not hating at all I love this vid but there is a guy that is on yt as well that did a video called bandpass myths and it explains what the ratios do from sealed to the ported side

Most manufactures post those specs on their sites. I haven't done many 8 inch builds just yet. But, get subscribed and stay tuned 😉 there’s more to come 🎉

Ok, so why do 4th orders sound so damn good to me but 6th orders give you a wider bandwidth?

Four orders are optimize at a certain frequency if that's your favorite frequency then it will be your favorite enclosure
