Thank you for these incredibly beautiful ideas on how to personalize gift wrapping and for the well organized supplies list and list of mentioned videos! I will watch all of them, starting with mark making which I love because it can be spontaneous and transporting. I appreciate you, Jackie! 🙏
Last summer my niece who is an artist made a series of prints from various salmon my sister caught. We were at their Yukon River fish camp, so watching her make the prints from freshly caught fish in such a rustic setting was magical.
What a glorious result! I love all nine pieces but especially want to play with the wet strength tissue paper I bought two years ago. For some reason, I have it in black, turquoise, and white. Need to experiment once I have my paint area set up again.
Hi Jackie yes I enjoy making my own gift wrap, I don't think most other people see what I see though, still I like doing it.What a wonderful video, I loved all your pieces, the gel plate piece remineded me of a turkish rug or a piece of fabric. I could see any of them framed on your wall.Thx for sharing, have a great weekend from NZ
You nailed it - it does resemble a turkish rug! As for your people seeing what you see - they never will (you're unique), but they will see that you made something for them. It's just special 🥰
One of the things that I like, perhaps like most about your videos is your enthusiasm while you're creating. It's evident in your body language and in your voice over. Pure joy! I personally love paper creation but at the moment the lack of space, specifically flat space and drying space is limiting my ability to do much so I live vicariously through your work. Thank you for sharing your process, your journey and again your joy.
Oh my goodness - what a wonderful thing to say! It's nearly impossible for me to mask my feelings - probably the reason I don't play poker 😂 I understand about the limited space, it is astonishing how quickly you can amass a ton of paper. I'm happy to have you here with me and enjoying vicariously. 🥰
I already commented but just rewatched your video because I find joy in watching you create them! They are all so unique, rich looking and simply exquisite, Jackie!! FYI I've discovered a new substrate for Gelli printing collage papers, since wet strength tissue paper has gotten so ridiculously expensive. Medical exam table paper rolls work just perfectly while maintaining the translucency like tissue paper.. And it's so economical ~ McKesson sells 12 rolls of 21" x 125' for around $35 on Amazon. This box will last me forever!! Keep inspiring us, Jackie! I hope your ankle is healing!
Deanna - this is a fantastic share! *clicking over to Amazon immediately* 😂 May I share this in an upcoming video, and credit you by first name? Also, thank you again for always being so kind and encouraging 🥰
Wow!🤩 What a GREAT idea! I can practice techniques & then use the paper for something beautiful without having to just store it or toss it! No waste 😄.
So...I wrapped a gift with it...and then I took it off 😂 I wasn't ready for it to leave my space, so it's still hanging on the rack behind me to the left. Thank you, Jennifer. 🥰
such fun!! loved them all but mark making one is my favorite... thank you and hoping your ankle heals well... off to begin some mark making fun papers :)
Thank you, Kreativ, for your kind words. I appreciate that you would like fewer words - it's a tricky balance. Some people want all the words 😂, some fewer words, and some want no words. I try to accommodate as many people as I can by using words to describe what I'm doing in the video, and uploading closed captions translated into 10 languages for those who don't want to hear me talking. Hopefully, the options will make it better for you. 🥰
I have never considered making my own wrapping paper. So enjoying your enthusiasm and joy you portray as you are creating. The papers you created are unique and beautiful ❤
If you have the time this holiday season, try making your own gift wrap for even just one person. They will love it, and you'll get to play with paint [ win -win 🙌🏼].
This wrapping paper is just beautiful!! I love all the papers you made! So cool and wonderful to do. I especially love the paper you made for your best friend! What a wonderful way to show her how much you care about your friendship.
Thank you Catherine - they were really fun to work on. Having said that, I think I'll start earlier next year 😂 As always, I appreciate you being here. 🥰
Wow I love this! I'm a new subscriber and I'm binge watching your videos, theyre great! I'm a newbie art addict and just can't stop painting and I love your approach and ideas, they are very inspiring and great for learning new things, thanks so much Jackie for being so lovely and sharing your talent like this. I'm never buying wrapping paper and cards again lol!!
Love this, Erin, and I am so happy you are here! Painting gift wrap is one of my favorite ways to zone out and take a break. Thank you for watching and taking the time to say "hello." 🥰
Thank you, Julie for you're kind words - I am on the mend each day, but good golly my ankle/foot could become the inspiration for my next color study 😂😂😂
What a wonderful friend you are, Jackie! Watching you putting so much love into these gorgeous gift wraps while floating in the stream of consciousness was heart warming. I especially love the sweet wrap because it reminds me of paintings by Klimt and the Love Letter Wrap 💖! I've never created my own gift wraps, but I regularly create my own greeting cards. My friends love them. Wish you loads of fun wrapping your gifts and watching your beloved ones unwrapping them 💝💝💝! They will marvel at your fantastic creations for sure! Aloha from Berlin ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Queen, you always have such lovely things to say. I am so happy that you enjoyed this one. Your friends must feel such delight when they get a hand made card from you. 🥰
You're very welcome, Jackie! Some of my friends keep all of my greeting cards on display which makes me very happy. And you are right: even these little creations kick off conversations on where I get my inspiration from and what techniques I use. @@PaintedPaperStudio
Omgeeee you clearly read my mind. I’ve been thinking about doing this for wrapping this Christmas. I was thinking about painting fabric too. You’ve inspired me!
How exciting - I hope you try both paper and fabric! 😍 One viewer told me she was going to try to make a runner for her buffet, and I thought that was genius! Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to write 🥰
Thank you Jackie, such great ideas, I am learning so much from you. I love those big foam stamps you used but can't track down any in the UK yet 🤔 Hope your ankle gets better really soon ❤
I just recently came across your page, you're such an inspiration. I really like your method. Collage and mixed media art is something that brings me a lot of joy. I Love seeing your work, great jobb!!
Hi Jackie! I've made my own gift bags, but not any paper... yet! My question is as an art journalist, if the recipient doesn't want to keep the handmade gift wrap, is it rude to ask for it back(lol)? And would you take it back for future collage elements...or do you really just let it go? Wishing you a healthy holiday season, surrounded by all the love you could ever need!
What a great question, Dawn! I suppose it depends on the person - I'm ok with letting it go completely. I would imagine they would feel good about it if you let the receiver know that if they don't want to keep it, you could use in a piece of art. Give it a whirl and let me know how it goes for you 🥰
So sorry you hurt yourself. Hope you're healing fast. I was wondering about the textured wallpaper. You mentioned a link in the description. I don't see it. Do you mind posting it? Thanks so much! Love your creativity and thank you for sharing.
Oh my goodness Doc - thank you for letting me know that the wallpaper was not listed in the supplies. I just added it in now. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Do you ever make your own gift wrap? Let me know which wrap you liked best, and please give this video a thumbs-up if you would like me to make another gift wrap video in the future. Happy holidays! 🥰
I found out that gloss med. on a gel plate works better for me but I also weigh it down over night with a heavyish pad of watercolor paper especially on a larger plate. Also, I don't move it unless it's on a board or acrylic palette because it wrinkles the paper when it bends and those spots won't stick. Does that make sense? Hope that helps! I have gained sooo much knowledge, so many new techniques and even a new way to experience my own creativity from watching your videos that I will remain a grateful and loyal viewer for as long as you make art! Sorry to gush at you but I felt that I should acknowledge the fact that you are a very good instructor and you have given many of your viewers tremendous gifts on our journeys to become better artists! Thanks!
Hi Sally! I don't have a recommendation for economical framing, but I sure wish I did. However, I buy my mat boards from an online source called MatBoards and More. I always had really good experiences with them, and I think their pricing is reasonable. I'm going to ask around and see what I can find out. Stay tuned 🥰
I always come back to so many of your wonderful videos for inspiration! The Love letter wrap is BEAUTIFUL! Reasons for using white gesso instead of white acrylic paint? The birch paper is amazing and so simple. But one query not related; what kind of condiment bottles do you use? Unsure if I should purchase the ones with a flip cap thinking that the cap would get in the way. Your opinion/ suggestion?
Hi Trini - thank you for being here again! I used the white gesso because I had it out, no other reason. I use white gesso instead of white paint frequently. It’s a good white and much less expensive than Golden’s whites 😍. I’m glad you asked about the condiment bottles - I’m going to do a video on that, but the short story is that I do not recommend the bottle tops you see in my videos. Acrylic paint ends up sealing the twist top and it’s a pain in the butt each time I go to use them. I would recommend using the ones that have the little red tops - you can find them on Amazon.
Hi Jackie, I just love this video and you have inspired me so much! I saw it last year and have had so much fun making wrapping paper. I’ve been using Kraft paper too and have had an issue with it wrinkling and not lying flat. Do you use a certain brand or weight of paper?
Hi Nancy - I'm so happy you enjoyed this video. Not all craft papers are created equal (as we've both found out the hard way.) This is the craft paper I use now - it's thicker and holds up to alot. amzn.to/4dA1b2F 🥰
I am not a master "stenciler," Bonnie, but whenever I've had the blob issue it's either been too much paint, too "wet" paint, or I've been impatient and didn't pay attention to how/if the stencil was firmly in place before I started. I hope this helps. 🥰
