Bayverse Sideswipe is special to me. Probably my favorite design from the films, and my absolute dream car was this version specifically. The way the doors open, the sleek silver finish, it was so cool. Finding out it was only made for this movie hurt.
You'll probably never see this but Michael Bay wanted to do red Transformers but he couldn't. The film had a hard time capturing red cars so be couldn't have them. That's why Optimus is a Blue truck with red paint, Iron hide is black, and Sideswipe is Silver. But by the time of Dark Of The Moon, the film could. That's why we have Red Dino and Red Sentinel Prime. He probably didn't change any characters to red in DOTM because they had already had those looks in 2 movies.
In these old vs new videos I usually don't have the old one but this time I actually have both, the ROTF one was one of the only ROTF figures I had and I still have it. Always hated how it was so hard to stand, but I keep it around to display in vehicle mode cause I love the look of this car, and glad I got the new SS cause Sideswipe probably one of my favorite Autobot designs from the movies.
It was actually RotF Sideswipe that got me back into Transformers after decades of basically ignoring them. My last Transformer was a G2 figure way back in the early 90s when I was a kid, and I moved onto other hobbies. Then one day around RotF's release I was wondering through a Walmart and saw the Sideswipe figure and looked on the back and was like, holy crap, modern transformers go from model car to Gundam in 20 steps. I remembered when Transformers you basically just pulled out the feet and dropped the hood and you had your brick robot, and now we had this. I had to buy it, and I loved it. I ended up buying most of the RotF line, especially that amazing leader class Optimus Prime, all of which I still have.
That dragon was Dragonstorm- and you shouldn't regret not getting it. The head is made of a rubber plastic that melts through the toy, ruining it even sealed.
Studio Series can store the blades on his outer upper thighs. The tabs sticking out of the middle of the swords slot into slots in his legs and they store swept backwards and look relatively good.
There is a better to store the blades in robot mode. The large tabs on the blade can slot on the inside of the doors. It’s way better than tabbing it in using the transformation slots.
For the ss one on the blades there is a big tab that go in his thighs un car mode and those tabs go on his wings for weapon storrage. It also makes his wings longer
@@thelonewolf2929 The sculpt is more film accurate, I’ll give it that. But the back still has the split window and the roof AND the hood all scrunched together. The older toy thought to split the hood in half to become wings. It’s inaccurate, sure, but I find it’s more user friendly.
Really wish the new one had the battle mask, but thats only because I am a sucker for battlemasks and the face is the only thing i dislike about sideswipe. Hes one of the few bay designs I love (heck even like) but oh lord that face.
the wheels on the studio series are actually not accurate to the movie, the original one has the correct wheels. The studio series went cheap and just reused the wheels from the dark of the moon figure where the wheels actually were accurate to dark of the moon movie.
I would love nothing more than for Takara to do another subline of SS with G1 colors. I would drain my bank account immediately if it meant I could have the best sideswipe mold in a shiny metallic red.
Omg what a downgrade! Smaller, less engineering, less cool, no mech alive, even the blades are just a put on or off thing. Only a better paintjob( and a better balance of course). Ordered an old one, will get it tomorrow i think Edit: omg car mode is even worse in new one! Doesnt stay together, tooo small. Omg. Hasbro where are u going?
You know if there's one ROTF toy I really want to see get a Studio Series update (even though he wasn't in the movie, but he did appear in the tie-in game), it's Breakaway. Kind of a goofy design but I always liked the original toy and I'd like to see what they could do with an updated version.

Who knows, maybe one day you'll get a custom bodykit
My favorite design in the bayverse is jolt even though he has like 1 minute of screen time
Mine is Que
Sideswipe’s is one of my favorite Bayverse designs
@@GuyWebzMy Favorite is Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Drift, Crosshairs, Dino, Ironhide, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave, Barricade, and Nitro Zeus.

imagine g1 prime with flames
Red, apart from the other colors, has a weird contrast and saturation issue in Post-Production, and it just seems to pop out unrealistically

The only problem I have with the old one is that it doesn’t come with a gun
Honestly glad you made this comparison! I had the OG version growing up and have been debating between that version or the Studio Series!
New Lego Cody and Rex helmets just went up for pre order!
Such memories i had the 2009 one as a child. Very nostalgic
Such a standout Autobot design despite being a mass of silver.

I have a repaint of this guy from the nest series, this guy would always have a special place in my heart
I think the Sidearm Sideswipe mold from Hunt For The Decepticons subline is the superior Deluxe Class Sideswipe mold despite not having the swords.
I got the new revenge of the fallen SS Sideswipe figure for Christmas in 2021. Because I needed a new version of him from my SS Dark Of The Moon one

Late comment, but I bet that ROTF Swerve with a Sideswipe head painted up with more black paint would look gorgeous as a G1 homage

Off topic but that Leader Class Dragonstorm figure is really easy to get. It's like 40 bucks (AUD) on Aliexpress.
The battle mask is basically a prototype Bayverse Sideswipe head. Much like how Ironhide did
"U guyz are in a Latin Stand-Off!!!!"
~Sideswipe, Revenge of the Fallen
I don’t see a single reason to own the Studio Series version. It’s too cramped for its own design and manages to have WORSE kibble than the old one!
It'a kibble isn't worse tho, and it's more accurate

Wdym? Bayverse sideswipe is one of the many bots who’s faces don’t look weird

The dragon is called dragon storm
Trying to convince dad to get me jordon 1’s
Idk after seeing the two together I don’t think the upgrade is worth it
They made me as a toy
False
Best transformer ever
Nice video
:D
Here's a few rotf figures with a bad alt mode: Ratchet, Ravage and The Fallen
Cool video
Both are good

When's the hatchet and hound coming out?
According to TFWiki, Hatchet got canned by Target due previous Buzzworthy Bumblebee deluxes selling poorly. Here's hoping he gets released eventually.

I REALLY hope they make tie-in game figures... I'd die for a DOTM Warpath or '07 Shockwave.
@@Jcc2224 Ooh, I’d buy a DOTM Warpath.
