When the film critic you thought was intelligent spits out the all the bandwagon takes of the idiots that never bothered to understand Optimus Prime's character in the Bayverse, firstly, how can Optimus be a war criminal when neither the Autobots or the Decepticons signed the Geneva Convention? Second, it's pretty obvious neither Sentinel nor Megatron were going to stop trying to take control of Earth, so Optimus eliminated a threat
Also, it's nice to know you think a dad abandoning his family for a bitch he hasn't seen in a decade makes for a good movie, talking about one of the many, MANY AWFUL decisions Josh Cooley made with Toy Story 4
@@rodimusmagnus5586 dude it was partially in jest, but also I love those films (outside of Beasts and 5). I've defended 4 ever since it came out. I get those movies lol
@@FilmSpeak Fortunately, Jon Bailey(Soundwave's VA) revealed that when it comes to TF, Hasbro pays more atention to the merch & toy sales than the Box Office, so if the toy sales of this movie are good(which THEY ARE BEING, BTW), we still have the chance to see the closing of the Trilogy
Not only did they slowly evolve D16 and Orion into Megatron and Optimus, they also slowly started to sound like their iconic selves. Fantastic voice work by the cast all around and great voice direction. I hope we get a sequel.
@@liammeech3702 Nah, that would sound way too out of place. If they're going to do that, it would be best to do it in-between movies when there's a time jump so Optimus is actually older and more battle-hardened.
You wont get a sequel. It didn't do well enough in key countries and they can't add their agenda pieces in it for foreign markets where it would do well. It's why so much had to be changed in Earthspark for it to even remotely do well in Japan. China had the better promotional material than the States and managed to get number 1 there and even there it couldn't get past $10m. It doesn't help that movies in September didn't do well. The newest Aliens movie was doing better in it's sixth week than Transformers on opening day.
After seventeen years, this honestly is the first time Megatron has been portrayed as a multidimensional character (on film) rather than a single-minded, barbaric killer. Even better, this film earns the bitter, wrathful conquerer personality we know Megatron to be.
@@slynthehedgehog8061I am aware of the comics, don’t worry, and many fans have pointed out where inspiration was drawn for the film’s portrayal of these characters. But I should have been clearer that this is the first time ON FILM that Megatron has been this nuanced.
SPOILERS I loved how at the end of the film, I sat there thinking about Optimus and Megatron's Journeys and how it made complete sense Optimus: Constantly challenging the status quo optimistic that things can be better for people like him but never out of malicious intent as even when bullied by Sentinel's minions he holds no grudge and instead focuses on whats important rather than dwelling on his pain Megatron: Constantly bitter and angry at the system he serves without realising it, "If you didn't try to do X I could have been promoted by now" and even when betrayed he still wants to earn his share by finding the Matrix to prove to his Idol Sentinel that hes a useful bot in the hopes of earning a natural freedom any cybertronian should have. So when he learns it was all for nothing, he has nothing to aim his anger and frustration at "NO I WANT TO KILL HIM..... BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT I WANT! we're just cogless bots am I right" Still hanging on to Sentinels structure that without power hes nothing and now has no avenue to "Earn it" So when he's given the power by Alpha Trion to actually enact change he only focuses on what he wants by getting back at Sentinel to the point of destroying Iacon to prove his point. While Optimus even before realising he could get a cog only focuses on moving forward to help everyone "I'm not focused on what Sentinel's going to do I'm focused on what we're going to do" Man I love thinking about this film I so want a Sequel
It's good writing, and has a lot of (ironically) human psychology in there. D-19 at the start has all the signs of a typical fascist, but he is a follower, the typical bootlicker. The change is that he becomes the Demagogue he aspired to follow at the start, he is forced to step up. But everything remains about him and his own feelings, but he makes others invest in his feelings as a proxy for their own, much as he was subverted before by Sentinal. Meanwhile Orion also has to step up, but he innately challenges the structure of power rather than adopting it. He thinks outside of himself and his own needs, collectively and systemically, for all the Autobots. Just perfectly nailed the political divide and captured this complex idea in something a kid can understand. TALENT.
Another thing to mention about Bee is that some people would have an issue with him talking a lot but when your watching the film and paying attention you can clearly understand why he's the way he is. I'm pretty sure any person would be similar situation if they were lonely for a majority of their life or isolated for Primus knows how many years
First time I've watched it in the cinema I was by myself and Bee wasn't really cutting it for me, but then I've watched it with a friend a week after and it clicked! This Bee is actually funny lol When I was alone I focused to much on the seriousness and tried to suck in as much infos as I could so to speak, but then with my friend we were more relaxed and actually laughed much more! 🎉
@@Nixus237 Oh we know your kind. Thats why these people turn into introverts. Because of ass fucks like you. But hey! This one's fiction tho so at least yo ass aint hurting anyone
15:48 Him being named Optimus Prime hits different when you see how his optimism drove his actions throughout the film. Dude’s optimistic through and through, to his core.
Another minor point: this video claims that Sentinel promises a cog to those who earn it, but that’s not quite right. While there is **some** implied opportunity for personal gain is on offer to those who work hard enough in the mines, Sentinel never explicitly promises a cog to anyone over the course of the film, and it’s not made clear how he decides who gets to be a Transformer and who gets to work their life away as a Miner.
I didn't expected Chris Hemsworth to be that good as young Orion Pax and his voice progression sounded like Peter Cullen at the end was astonishing. I also heard he's in talks having a major role in the upcoming GI Joe crossover film.
You're hearing things mate, Megatron and Optimus do not come across as 'Megatron' and 'Optimus' in the film whatsoever writing wise and casting wise regardless of how good of a performance the voice actors put on.
@@Achieme Nope, it doesn't appeal to general audiences due to cartoonish CGI. It was marketed only for kids unlike to BayFormers which marketed both kids and adults due to real life CGI. Also, BayFormers trilogy has a rewatch value for fans and viewers who cared only for real life CGI, robot in action and epic fights especially for the Dark of the Moon which considered a blockbuster movie.
@@LeonLego um ya everyone including myself blamed the bad marketing and turning audiences away but the film itself does appeal to general audience it had nothing to do with it being an animated CGI film for why the movie flopped. I mean people are making video on how good the film is, I have yet see anyone make a video on why TF:one is bad other than they miss the Bayverse. If they done a better job marketing the film into something that wasn't something made for 5 yr general audience would gave the film more of a chance. This sounds like a post someone made trying to compare AOE to TF:one saying how much money it made and they need to stick to live action/Bayverse even though ironically that film is where people started to get sick of the bayhem. I love the bayfilms but TLK is what made the series crash and burn plus the audience and critic score for TF:one have positive reception unlike the bayfilms. If TFP predacons rising was in similar situation as TF:One would you say the same thing?
@@Achieme I'm one of the general audiences (adult) who doesn't appeal the movie trailer because I see it as a kids movie and for 90's transformers fan only despite having a good plot. I think it's not the marketing failure, I think the general audiences were not interested in Transformer's plot compared to Marvel comics. I think CGI is a big factor for action movies like transformers because if you compared the 2007 1st transformer trailer and Transformers Dark of the Moon, it really attracts the random audiences (including me) because of the realistic CGI compared to Transformers One's cartoonish CGI.
I'm just glad deeper tranformers mythos like the caste system, the racism and classism that divided cybertron for 1000s of years, is finally being shown to a mainstream audience. Transformers is darker and deeper than a lot of people credit it for. The character work with Orion and D is incredible. This isn't the first time a story like this was told for Megatron. The comics had the miner story, and transformers prime told the story of low class gladiator rising to politics and such. As for mainstream film adaptations though, you're correct. It's just very pleasing mainstream audiences FINALLY get to see the depth transformers always had for like 30-40 years. If i may add, I'd recommend the novel transformers exodus. It's the story I wish they had adapted. The whole caste system and class differences introduced by sentinel prime is a larger focus here and it's connection to Orion and Megatronus. Orion a middle class clerk and Megatronus a low class gladiator only allowed to survive to be used as entertainment for the high class (who would become the autobots). In this continuity even orions belief that freedom is everyone's right is an idea from Megatronus. I just think its a bit more interesting and worth a read. I guess making a story where the good guys are evil and the bad guys good might have been just a little bit too much for what they were going for in transformers one.
Josh Cooley said they tried to integrate the gladiator part etc but time constraints prevented this. I personally felt Orion starting off in the mines was weird af but yeah, time constraints. It would take like 2.5-3 hours to integrate prior canon into a film, and Hasbro/Paramount probably hoped a shorter film would both reduce costs (yes) and draw families (no)
this would be just way too much for a kids movie. I loved T1, but it exists in the constraints of a kids movie. also, for a kids movie they put a lot of heavy themes in and they executed them well, and it's the themes that a rarely found in kids movies. it's a very respectable effort.
@alexmikhylov I agree, I just can't lie. While the aligned continuity isn't the darkest or most adult (that's idw) I think its my ideal adaptation of transformers. Loved transformers one, just sad I'll never see the mass civil war on screen.
Comics are not canon they are more like fan fiction for edge lords. For me G1 is the only universe I like because Megatron is a pure evil tyrant. The reason he is evil is because he was ALWAYS evil not perverted towards evil. I feel that the classic Megatron is a bad guy you LIKE to hate. Whereas the newer incarnations of Megatron is just a normal guy who turns evil. Not as scary as the original from the G1 cartoons who is terrifying because of what his Fusion Canon can do. Think of G1 Megatron like a horror movie character like Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers. You don't want to cross this guy because he can rip you in half just out of amusement. This was the definitive Megatron and I don't think comics can improve on that design. IE villain who is pure evil that only cares about conquering the galaxy through brutal violence and destruction through obtaining ultimate power for power's sake. This was a generation X Megatron who we all know cannot be reasoned with. Much like the T-800 in Terminator he has made up his mind and nobody can change it. The emo crowd cannot handle this character because they never experienced war in real life. He IS that bully you were scared to get bullied by at school because he enjoyed torturing people and used his size to his advantage and laughed at others when they experience pain. That is a Tyrant I love to hate. Today's villains would cower in fear at the G1 Megatron. Because the emo crowd doesn't understand the concept of power corrupting people completely and making them demonic in nature. They are obsessed with the 1990s smypathetic bad guy. "It's the failed childhood and bad upbrinigng that made them evil." No! Megatron was always evil because its his destiny to challenge the innocent people to rise up and fight evil as a test of their character. If good exists then Megatron (pure evil) must exist to test the bravery of the good guy to fight that evil. Without test of character, you don't have heroes. Heroes fight evil to show their bravery and act as symbol for good people to follow. Without a bad guy who is powerful there is no need for heroes. See how that works? We don't see this anymore in stories because of the liberals writing sympathetic bad guys who only turn bad because they were abused or treated bad in their childhoods and that is the cause for their behavior. I see that story in basically every single anime I watch. I am sick of that trope.
Indeed, I missed it at the cinema because I don't even know this movie exist ... I just knew this movie exist yesterday when I accidentally saw it on TH-cam short and so many positive comment on there.. I watched it a minute ago and I regret not watching it on the cinema
I also love how this version of Optimus Prime strayed from his Allined Continuity's idea of him being a reincarnation of Prima Prime, a literal prophesied chosen one. Instead it made him an average no one, elevated and forged into a leader. 💙
@@noirangel6416 he wasn't a Noneone, he was famous in ALL Iacon tho for the wrong reasons, everybody knew him & they knew him for being a trouble-maker & a disaster-bringer (as is proved specially during the Iacon race)
In Aligned (WFC/FOC and Prime), Optimus Prime isn't even a reincarnation of Prima Prime, he straight up IS one of the Thirteen Primes who was previously known only as the Thirteenth, and who willingly entered into the Well of All Sparks so that he could be reincarnated as a regular bot. But yes, there was also some unused lore about him having a "Primian" polarity, relating him to Prima Prime... somehow. And, yeah, I absolutely agree that I much prefer Optimus to have been a regular bot from the start who became a Prime on his own merit, rather than a reincarnation of a demigod who was always destined for greatness. I hope that future Transformers media will take a cue from this awesome movie by continuing to have the thirteenth member of the Thirteen be someone other than Optimus. Preferably someone less boring than Zeta Prime, though (bizarre choice to make him the leader, too, instead of Prima Prime). Logos Prime (maybe as the Prime of knowledge?) and Autonomous Maximus (maybe as the first Titan?) would both be better choices, in my opinion. That said, I'd be okay with Optimus in future media having a "Primian" polarity or whatever, so long as it wasn't unique to him and was something that a full thirteenth of all Cybertronians had. Polarities as essentially the Cybertronian equivalent of Zodiac signs would be a bit weird, but wouldn't be the worst idea, since the franchise already has a lot of mystical elements. Ideally we'd get at least one "Primian" villain too, so that it wasn't the equivalent of Hogwarts houses where being Gryffindor automatically makes you a hero and being a Slytherin automatically makes you a villain.
The best thing about it is that it doesn't just pander to g1, they take elements from EVERYTHING before it and catching all those easter eggs really goes to show they put alot of care into this movie, it deserves the shine
And it makes more sense for them to be whimpering cowards. Imagine seeing your leaders, the strongest of you being destroyed, while it's your own charge to protect them. You can see how it broke the lot
12:39 Sentinel DID NOT plead nor surrendered. He DOUBLED DOWN that he was in the right, and that Optimus should see why he betrayed him. It was Optimus WHO WAS PLEADING, and what did Sentinel say "We were Gods once. All of us. But here, there could only be one!" before SECONDS away from executing Optimus. Screw this "pOoR lEoNarD nEmOy" shit. Dude killed THOUSANDS of humans as a show of force. He didn't betray Optimus, HE betrayed himself.
there was actual drama in the bayverse. not this disney twist villain bullshit. spare me the "wow a movie that respects the audience!" nonsense. sentinel's betrayal was heart breaking, this is just "eww class system bad, go unions"
THANK YOU! Optimus literally was crying "Please" before Sentinel raised his sword over his head. How can anyone watch that movie after everything Sentinel did and still think "Nah Optimus is the real bad guy". But considering people think Optimus is the monster vs the literal Devil, The Fallen was going to harvest the sun to make more energon and kill all of humanity... people are just so stupid and lack critical thinking.
THANK YOU for speaking some sense here!! War criminal??? Pretty sure execution is standard for traitors, whether or not they "surrender", which you correctly pointed out Sentinel did NOT
"Behold..Galvatron!" "I'll kill you" "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" "Let his spark join the matrix , the greatest of cybertron" "That's just prime" *"ME GRIMLOCK"* *FEMALE*

I grew up on the 86 film, my dad loved it (and was scarred by it) and helped me love it too. Seeing this with him, and seeing the sheer joy it gave both of us after the constant letdowns of the Live Action films makes this franchise feel special again. It deserves better. And we need sequels. I NEED the Dinobots in this animation style.
Easily the best portrayal of Megatron. In G1, he was just born to be evil, in Bayverse, he was manipulated be The Fallen (Megatronus prime) in Transformers Prime, gladiator turned evil by jealousy (which was the best portrayal up until now)
17:22 Key note: this nuance in Megatron had not been seen in any of the movies before, but has been in other media like Cyberverse, Earthspark, and the IDW comics.
This is how I see it. Transformers 2007 was the humble beginning, Transformers 2 was the guilty pleasure comedy film that is fun when you disregard the plot, Transformers 3 was... something, Transformers Age of Extinction existed, The Last Knight killed everything, Bumblebee planted the seed for a new future, Rise of The Beasts was a sign of that brighter future, and Transformers One was proof that the franchise finally found the spark it needed for a long long time.
@@maxrichards3881 I'm just talking from the general movies lol. Obviously I know there is literally so many incarnations of Transformers that I can name here in a heartbeat XD
transformers was not humble, transformers 2 was as much pleasure are consecutive kicks to the ballsbut yes, transformers 3 was something and transformers 4 did statutoy rape… why transformers, why?
Honestly I see the Bumblebee movie, Rise of the Beast and 07 movie as a pseudo trilogy representing different decades (80’s, 90’s and 00’s respectively) for me personally it stops for me with the original Michael Bay movie and the other 4 are just Michael bay fan fiction films 😂
Also says they discriminate against her cuz she's a woman. My brother in christ,in the scene Darkwing literally says the same thing he says to Orion and D,cogless miners Did FilmSpeak just ignore the dialogue in that scene or something?

@@glory2cybertroni can attest to that. I was 8 and i remembered watching that movie after the 2007 live action movie. I was shocked by the amount of characters that died in that film thinking that the rest of the franchise was like that. Thankfully Transformers animated came out that same year and convinced me to watch the original g1 cartoon and beast wars.
This movie was awesome! I loved the dynamic between Orion and D16 as they interacted with each other and also slowly evolved into the iconic powerhouses of opposite ideologies.
“Megatron has never been this complex” This makes me sad since the IDW comic version IS THAT GOOD but most people don’t read those and have only seen the Bay movies
There’s 3 Things I have to clarify, 1. I’m ok with the Quintessons not showing up, I’m aware how much of a Threat they are but the whole point of this Movie is how Optimus Prime and Megatron began the Formation of the Autobots and Decepticons, IF the Quintessons had appeared more often it would ruin the Film and we won’t get any Sentinel Screen Time, 2. Elita wasn’t the one that had the Idea of using Arachnid to Expose Sentinel, It was Orion who did a Quick Thinking when Arachnid said “I can see Everything” showing how Clever Pax is with his Sharp Edge and Mind, and 3. Bee was done good enough, I get that the Character didn’t evolve but Bee has done Well Enough, his presence is literally the Beginning to Pax and D16’s Journey to who they are destined to become as it was a Red Flag when they found out that there’s 50 Sub Levels instead of 40, his Creation Steve has the Map, and while I thought he was going to ruin the Movie with the Comic Relief I’m surprised there’s Layers of Humanity especially when Sentinel captures him and Dee and Dee stood up when Bee didn’t want him to stand up because he doesn’t want to see his Friends Hurt, like the Quintessons I’m pretty sure Bee will Develop especially when he losses his Voice in the War, anyway this Movie was amazing, not only is it one of the Best Movies of 2024, but it’s clearly the Best Transformers Movie of all Time, the Voice Casting was Great, the Story with the Evolution of Optimus Prime and Megatron is Interesting and Heartbreaking, Sentinel Prime is one of the Best Modern Villains in a Long Time that he’s definitely giving Homelander Vibes, and the Animation and Setup are Flawless, 10 out of 10, I’m hoping this gets a Trilogy because it deserves it and I would love to see more content from this and the Franchise.
Personally i think a show based off transformers one would be very cool, they would have more time to develop and expand on things in the movie, and of course we’d get more of the AWESOME designs in the movie and the animation.
@@L1ama.Tr0nthat’s a great idea I haven’t heard anyone mention before now. A new extended TV/streaming series launched by TF1 could be very satisfying for fans and lucrative for Hasbro, without the risk of box office volatility. And it would produced much more overall content to enjoy, endless options for introducing new bots for retail, etc.
I remember when I first watched Bumblebee and saw that beginning scene on Cybertron and knew everything I wanted to see in a Transformers movie, no humans, fully on Cybertron, classic designs, sick action, and overall just being good so when I saw this movie was doing all that along with a nice focus on Optimus and Megatron, I was just like “Greatness?” Greatness. Like seriously, if My Hero Academia: You’re Next and Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t exist (along with no doubt Sonic 3 when that comes out cause I’m biased as frick), this would be my movie of the year, easily (though to be somewhat fair, that is because I haven’t seen a whole lot of movies this year like I haven’t seen Dune 2 (mostly because I didn’t see the first), and even then, Despicable Me 4 sucked, Kung Fu Panda 4 was so painfully mid, borderline bad that I won’t argue if you say it is, it’s not even funny, Inside Out 2 I thought was really good but not on this level, the only other movie I’ve seen this year that could’ve competed would be Fall Guy)
I'm glad that this movie is closer to the various Transformers cartoons and comics than the live action movies. I even like this one more than the 86 animated movie. Thank you for sticking to the lore while showing the friendship and fall of it between Megatron and Optimus.
One of the BEST movies ive seen in my life. I did not expect to really like Transformers cuz as a kid, I grew up only feeling bored watching the livw action ones
I just saw it for free on TH-cam 4 days ago and I liked it I thought it was really cool and funny inner headaches serious tones in the development of the characters I really enjoyed the movie
12:39 Ah yes, Optimus the war criminal vs Sentinel Prime the totally innocent civilian who DIDN'T betray the Autobots, shoot Ironhide in the back and kill thousands of humans after turning Chicago into a warzone. And you say you enjoyed DOTM, you missed the point. Sentinel wasn't surrendering or pleading in Dark of the Moon. Why do people always get that wrong? Dude was inches away from killing Optimus, and would have had Megatron not intervened and turned the tide of the battle. Optimus said "You betrayed yourself" and he was going to refute that because he became a fanatic, eager to kill any and everyone who stood in his way to rebuilding Cybertron.
What I like about this film is that we see glimpses of their true nature at the beginning of the movie. During the chase scene, we see Orion being resourceful and quick-witted, we also see glimpses of D's violent tendencies based on how casually he makes violent remarks (his best idea to help Orion was to punch him after all). We also see how capable they are during the race where Orion leads D-16 to near victory despite overwhelming odds.
I was planning on taking my son to see this movie in the theater to support its opening weekend after seeing the original trailer! I completely missed any news about the premiere and I imagine I’m not the only one with a similar story
It definitely did not save Transformers. It was excellent and I saw it twice but the marketing damage had been done and honestly I'd be surprised if the sequel even gets greenlit at this point.
TfFDOTM is one of the best TF movie I will ever cherish, the grand scale of threat of those alien robots in realisticanner displayed very well in that film, and how eye candy and respect MB crafted in his way (well his technical expertise)
You overlooked the emphasis Orion places on changing the world and helping everyone through sharing the truth contrasted with D's desire to protect himself by placing himself in charge.
I'd suggest the reason Orion doesn't always follow protocol is because he doesn't mistakenly equate protocol with virtue. He doesn't break protocol for kicks and giggles, or to serve himself. He's seeking to help Cybertron. Contrast that with D who, like you say, follows protocol so that he can improve his own lot in life. That's not a bad thing, but without a wider appreciation of virtue it can lead to bad ends.
This video sums up my feelings quite well! Transformers whole thing is that Optimus and Megatron used to be friends but it never really told that story. Now we have been told that story and it is a good one.
It actually brought some childhood tears up when D-16 became Megatron by letting Orion Pax die. He was jaded and clouded by anger, and it gave much more depth to the maniacal Decepticon we know and love.
yeah Lorenzo said the sequel depends on the film's success so it looks like this was a one-off. But I'd prefer a new anime series where they can deep dive into life on Cybertron; the movie literally rushed through 99% of its runtime.
@@glory2cybertron Everyone deserves a chance rather than seeing it flopped. Transformers One deserves a sequel. The Wild Robot deserves a sequel & Gundam Seed Freedom deserves this conclusion to this trilogy.
I had no expectations and infact thought it would be terrible. I was wrong, loved it. Apart from Optimus Primes voice at the end, they should have adjusted the audio to sound more like Peter once he got the all spark.
The live action transformers franchise movies all have the same plot lines.... "transformers have been to earth before" but the transformers don't know transformers have been to earth before.
Hey man, good analysis. Some things I didn't think about. I didn't like Orion Pax' rebellious, almost petty criminal, tendencies at the start. I just went with it, but your analysis of the difference between Orion & D-16 at the start has given me new perspective. Well done.
Actually Beast Wars didn't interest me at all only watching it recently did I realize how funky the cgi got towards the end and thought it was good - even before watching Beast Wars I saw Rise of the Beasts and really liked the feel of it on the most part, different context, it seemed to be more earthy than the Bay films - I liked it
@@MarblesEye true. Beast wars was always such crap, at least to me. I don’t understand how people can say it’s the best show when the animation is such horses*it and the characters look like they were microwaved put in a blender and then put in a show. @@Rosewolf29I did think that at 1st and on the whole initially too, I was disgusted almost. But I heard the storyline wasn't so bad and also I was intrigued about the arc storyline so I gave it a shot.

It flopped, thats not saving the franchise lol also you cant just blame the trailer because a big portion as to why people didnt watch it is because its ugly asf to look at.
I recognize everything that make people think this is an amazing film, but for me I found it rather predictable and boring. It felt like a rehash of previous Transformers media in a nice kid friendly package along with some celebrity voice actors to boot. For me it was probably a 7 out of 10 if I had to rate it. If you did like this film at all I do recommend checking out the Transformers comics. There is a new run that is only 12 issues in that is being published by Skybound, and also the old IDW comics that I believe were the first to make Megatron have the origin of being a lowly miner (so yes TF One is technically a comic book movie).
the director wanted to do the origins like the comics but he said that it would take atleast 4 hours so yeah it is a package but certainly not for kids with all the subtext that the movie has, comparing the comics with this movie doesn't make sense because they had literally decades to develop . Everyone is excited because is the first transformer movie were the protagonist are finally the transformers, and not some human guy. The animations were great i also think the movie would've been better if the end wasn't rushed and all the things that happen and development of the characters are narrated in only one day, i think they had some problems with the budget maybe. If the marketing was better and they hadn't hired this actors (who were cartainly taken because of their popularity) except the one who voices megatron maybe they would saved some money on the budjet. Is not a masterpiece but with the bad box office and the low standards of transformers that with Bay became some fast and furious action trash is good that someone that understand the franchise makes this movies.
Everything from the stellar animation, music, fantastic fight scenes and choreography, the story, the character arcs and fantastic voice acting was just incredible. Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry truly blew me away, mainly because they absolutely killed it as Optimus and Megatron and brought a level of humanity to the characters as you truly understand where both of them are coming from and how much they care for each other as friends as it genuinely breaks your heart watching them fall apart. Brian Tyree Henry especially brought such a level of complex tragedy and emotional pain as D-16/Megatron that Ive never seen before when it comes to the character and honestly, he might be my new favourite take on Megatron. Usually Megatron has never been portrayed as a sympathetic villain who was a product of a corrupt system before in most media outside of the TF comics. I loved how you can see his thought process through his eyes and how he was genuinely happy being a miner and believed in the system, but after learning about the truth about Sentinel, his entire worldview shatters, and his mental state slowly collapses more and more. The moment he is mocked and tortured by Sentinel, D-16 finally has had enough, and the moment he accidentally shoots Orion, we see I'm going through a complete emotional breakdown seeing his best friend almost dead but also perceiving it as a betrayal as D-16 has always had to cover Orion and save him for all his recklessness. However, he still chooses to take the bullet because he is trying to save D-16 from making a terrible mistake, but ultimately, it is too late, and now only Megatron exists. Chris Hemsworth was also surprisingly excellent as Optimus Prime, and it really shocked me how much range he has as an actor/voice actor as he sounded like a young Peter Cullen. I especially love his arc of growing to understand his responsibilities and that scene where Orion inspires the miners to fight back against Sentinel was so empowering because it really shows what kind of person Orion is as I love the detail of Orion kneeling down at the miners' level because, unlike Sentinel, he was one of them and saw all of them as friends and family and inspiring all of them like a good father figure, which is everything Optimus Prime should be, a noble, hopeful leader whos never afraid to be gentle or compassionate to others. The movie is also surprisingly dark, as the trailers did not do this movie justice. There are genuinely a few mature and gruesome moments that shocked me and made me question whether this was a PG movie? It may have some moments of fun and levity for kids, which is funny, but when it needs to, it knows when to take itself seriously. It knows that the audience is smart enough to understand the Transformers franchise lore, which I appreciate. Im just disappointed with how poorly Paramount marketed this movie was as it truly deserved better promotion for such a great movie and yet the box office has many concerned that we might not even get a sequel, which I really hope this movie does get a trilogy of Transformers animated films because there is still so much potential to dive into the Civil War of Cybertron, the Quintessons, how Cybertron ultimately collapsed from the war and explore these characters on a deeper level.
This is an EXCELLENT video w some great takes FilmSpeak. One small thing that surprises me was your editors didn't catch you calling Elita-1 "Arcee" at the end hahaha. Incredibly minor detail, doesn't detract from the video at all I jus wanted to point out what I noticed
I've seen it three times, with plans to see it one more time before it leaves theaters. I've also preordered the 4K UHD Steelbook off Amazon. This is hands-down the BEST Transformers movie. It felt like an actual story being told with actual character development, rather than an expensive toy commercial or a showcase of special effects with expensive product placements.
Thank you for basically spelling out the whole movie. Could have used a spoiler warning, but for me who already watched the movie, it helped back up my memory better. Unfortunately while I was watching the movie, I think I was a little busy getting over how the trailers portrayed it, as well as my personal picky sense of humor. I didn’t take in as much of what it was doing so I could appreciate it. Though I did notice Optimus Prime, with the Matrix, is able to pull out a weapon akin to what he could do in the original series, which is pretty dang cool even though I only watched a couple episodes of the classic. I remember it seeming kinda just conveniently useful in that series, but here seeing how he came to have that sort of multi-tool type thing makes it so worth it.
I agree with a lot of everything here! TF One is pretty incredible and it sucks that it hasn't done well at the box office But man is it annoying to see the "Bay Optimus is a war criminal / psychopath" stuff here because it isnt true.
@@FilmSpeak Fair enough! he can definitely be brutal but I feel like that just fits in with the Bay universe. I see a lot of people in the fandom speak in hyperbole or just straight up make stuff up to criticize Bay Prime and it is annoying to see. But hey, I made an hour and a half long video defending Bay Optimus Prime on my channel so maybe I'm just too deep into it haha.
It "saved" the franchise when it's the lowest performing movie to date. Sure, it's okay, but it didn't save shit. TF07 did more for the franchise any movie could ever do, and it's sad to see that happen.
@Spencer_232 The thing is, I'm one of those Gee Wunners as it's what got me obsessed with the franchise to begin with, that and M.A.S.K. Sure, there are lines I'm not a fan of, but with every new release movie or show, even comics is someone's entry point, their "G1". It's them that we need to nurture, the future fans to keep this franchise going.
@ValyrianPrince Ok, well, first I agree with the first one, but the bee jokes were tuned down by the second to third act. Also, they did NOT make Orion a dumb jock do you even know what that means? 🤨
Seriously? Most of the Bay films sucked hard. I only liked the first one and possibly Bumblebee. Transformers One was good but not in any way epic/memorable.
2:40 If I didn't know several better versions of the origin story (The War Within, OG G1 cartoon, and OG G1 comic), I might agree. (Although I suppose it's better than any of the versions since those.) Things being as they are, though, it's solidly the number three film below The Transformers: The Movie and Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising (a TV film, yes, but a film nonetheless) and above Bumblebee and... I suppose Bayformers 1.
In the 80's Transformers, Orion Pax to Optimus transformation was different. Elita One was named Arial at first before Alpha Trion changed them. In Transformers: Prime, Megatron's backstory was that he was a soldier who fought in the pits of Chaon until he rose up against the elites.
The Bayverse movies honestly just suck. Like -- to the racism, sexism, horrible writing, bad pacing, poor story telling, covert homophobia. a fully animated film about the origin about two of the most important characters with NO humans? good writing? amazing pacing? IMPACTFUL? yeah, no shit. this franchise should not be remembered as some middle-aged mans incoherent babbling who also made transformers "pee" (lubricate) i ADORE Transformers: One
@@OptimusNiaa that is the surface reading, and it is absolutely correct. The cogless Cybertronians were monstrously maimed. They were robbed of an essential part of themselves, a part of them that gives their kind their colloquial name, and they were crippled in a way that restricted their mobility and prevented them from deploying any built-in weapons that they might have otherwise possessed. However, all stories that we make ultimately reflect something of the human condition. What kind of society would do this to its own citizens? A deeply unjust, unequal, stratified, and authoritarian one. What do these kinds of societies do in real life? Well, they may not be capable of physically maiming their citizens en masse, but they do cripple them, just in subtler ways. They condemn them to toil and servitude in service of those at the top, which does result in physical damage to their bodies over time, which in turn makes escaping their lot in life even more difficult. And, most critically, they rob them of their humanity - they dehumanize them - by making them "less than", and by convincing everyone else of this. Much like the cogless Cybertronians were made to be "less than" proper Transformers, both in a very real, physical sense, and also socially (they are clearly perceived as an underclass compared to transforming Cybertronians, and are subject to violence by the authorities if they step out of line). Notice also that Alpha Trion says that the cogs represent their power to change their worlds for the better, so some of their metaphorical significance is already stated explicitly in the movie itself. While the will to change their worlds may exist in their sparks (i.e., their souls), they need the power of their cogs in order to act on that will, and so being robbed of them is fundamentally disempowering in both the physical and the metaphorical sense. Moreover, these cogs are supposed to be a gift from Primus - which means that by having their cogs taken away, the cogless Cybertronians were literally robbed of an unalienable right granted to them by their divine creator (okay, this one is a bit of a stretch, but you see my point by now, I hope). A movie can have some profound themes in it while also being a fun romp about transforming alien robots duking it out on a metal planet. A lot of the best media is like that, actually.
I think your initial statement that Megatron has never been that layered in Transformers is kinda wrong. If ur referring to the Bayverse movies than yeah. But in the War for Cybertron and Fall for Cybertron games we can see his layers there.

I loved how at the end of the film, I sat there thinking about Optimus and Megatron's Journeys and how it made complete sense
Optimus: Constantly challenging the status quo optimistic that things can be better for people like him but never out of malicious intent as even when bullied by Sentinel's minions he holds no grudge and instead focuses on whats important rather than dwelling on his pain
Megatron: Constantly bitter and angry at the system he serves without realising it, "If you didn't try to do X I could have been promoted by now" and even when betrayed he still wants to earn his share by finding the Matrix to prove to his Idol Sentinel that hes a useful bot in the hopes of earning a natural freedom any cybertronian should have. So when he learns it was all for nothing, he has nothing to aim his anger and frustration at "NO I WANT TO KILL HIM..... BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT I WANT! we're just cogless bots am I right" Still hanging on to Sentinels structure that without power hes nothing and now has no avenue to "Earn it"
So when he's given the power by Alpha Trion to actually enact change he only focuses on what he wants by getting back at Sentinel to the point of destroying Iacon to prove his point.
While Optimus even before realising he could get a cog only focuses on moving forward to help everyone "I'm not focused on what Sentinel's going to do I'm focused on what we're going to do"
Man I love thinking about this film
I so want a Sequel
TALENT.
@@Canadish I hadn't even considered that, that's awesome

Another minor point: this video claims that Sentinel promises a cog to those who earn it, but that’s not quite right. While there is **some** implied opportunity for personal gain is on offer to those who work hard enough in the mines, Sentinel never explicitly promises a cog to anyone over the course of the film, and it’s not made clear how he decides who gets to be a Transformer and who gets to work their life away as a Miner.
Why did they change Elita-1's colour to RC's?
I didn't expected Chris Hemsworth to be that good as young Orion Pax and his voice progression sounded like Peter Cullen at the end was astonishing.
I also heard he's in talks having a major role in the upcoming GI Joe crossover film.
He’s a good actor. Marvel just limited his talents.

A Classic Zero to Hero story.

In G1, he was just born to be evil, in Bayverse, he was manipulated be The Fallen (Megatronus prime) in Transformers Prime, gladiator turned evil by jealousy (which was the best portrayal up until now)
I’d agree in terms that this is the absolute best portrayal of early megatron, and TFP megatron being the best later on and end.
In a way the film itself, much like it's hero - sacrificed itself at the box office to save the entire franchise. It will age like fine wine though.

The female bot isn’t Arcee, it’s Elita-1. Arcee is a background character.
Movie was awesome when it comes to transformers film's it's designed in my top 3
Yeah it not only surpassed all expectations but genuinely floored me. Easily the best in the series!
This movie was awesome! I loved the dynamic between Orion and D16 as they interacted with each other and also slowly evolved into the iconic powerhouses of opposite ideologies.
“Megatron has never been this complex”
This makes me sad since the IDW comic version IS THAT GOOD but most people don’t read those and have only seen the Bay movies
@@webjock2k7 oh for sure! and seeing as tfone is sort of its own continuity, i would really love to see what else it has to offer
Transformers One was an amazing prequel! Answered a ton of questions.
I'm glad that this movie is closer to the various Transformers cartoons and comics than the live action movies.
I even like this one more than the 86 animated movie.
Thank you for sticking to the lore while showing the friendship and fall of it between Megatron and Optimus.
He called Elita-1, Arcee 😭
They're both pink but not the same character
Be easy I thought she was arcee until I actually saw her
One of the BEST movies ive seen in my life. I did not expect to really like Transformers cuz as a kid, I grew up only feeling bored watching the livw action ones
seriously though shoutout to TFHypeGuy bro has made a name for themselves as the movies number one supporter
The best Transformer movie. Period.
When the movie is so good you watched a video essay on it to hear all the reasons why you were satisfied :)
It's a must watch
Transformers games are underrated
I was planning on taking my son to see this movie in the theater to support its opening weekend after seeing the original trailer! I completely missed any news about the premiere and I imagine I’m not the only one with a similar story
It definitely did not save Transformers. It was excellent and I saw it twice but the marketing damage had been done and honestly I'd be surprised if the sequel even gets greenlit at this point.
It was nice seeing the storytelling of the cartoons and in particular the idw comics coming to a larger audience.
TfFDOTM is one of the best TF movie I will ever cherish, the grand scale of threat of those alien robots in realisticanner displayed very well in that film, and how eye candy and respect MB crafted in his way (well his technical expertise)
Wow, this is the best synopsis of the film I have ever seen. Puts all the feelings and underlying majesty of this film into words. This is amazing!

I just got done watching Wolverine Deadpool on TH-cam before I came to work and I liked it
This movie was sooo dman good
Yeah man. It rules!
This video sums up my feelings quite well! Transformers whole thing is that Optimus and Megatron used to be friends but it never really told that story. Now we have been told that story and it is a good one.
I know you didn't do it on purpose, but I think you mixed up elita-1 with arcee
It actually brought some childhood tears up when D-16 became Megatron by letting Orion Pax die. He was jaded and clouded by anger, and it gave much more depth to the maniacal Decepticon we know and love.
It’s really unfortunate we might not get a sequel now.
One of the saddest moments in cinema history

Transformers One is not flop
yeah Lorenzo said the sequel depends on the film's success so it looks like this was a one-off.

Well done.
Rise of the Beasts was my favorite until Transformers One came out. Some people didn't like it, but that's their loss.
And there are so many better shows, Prime, RID (both versions), Armada Energon Cybertron, War for Cybertron.
@@Rosewolf29I did think that at 1st and on the whole initially too, I was disgusted almost. But I heard the storyline wasn't so bad and also I was intrigued about the arc storyline so I gave it a shot.
@ nice. The only good part I saw in it after watching it to try and give it a chance was the Dinobot arc, the rest not for me. Your at least being nice about it, some people are all why do you hate it it’s awesome raaagh
This is my favorite because it answered alot if questions I've always had
It flopped, thats not saving the franchise lol also you cant just blame the trailer because a big portion as to why people didnt watch it is because its ugly asf to look at.
Far better than bayverse
I took my 15 and 9 year old boys to see it and I had zero expectations. I thought it was awesome and we all walked out loving it.
If the marketing was better and they hadn't hired this actors (who were cartainly taken because of their popularity)
except the one who voices megatron maybe they would saved some money on the budjet.
20:51 Another note: Transformers One is a separate universe from the Bayverse movies or the Bumblebee/RotB movies.

The only reason movie was good because we finally saw a pure transformer movie without any human

Really, 3rd? I guess I have to go watch those films.

What do you think the metaphor of removed sparks means? Humanity. The answer is humanity.
Internalized shame is a prison of the mind.
It's literally a disability that confines bots to a lower social class, but go off
It's cogs. And why consider it a metaphor? Literally it was them being maimed....crippled. Perhaps it's not meant as a metaphor.
@@OptimusNiaa tell me you don't have the trauma lens without telling me
@@OptimusNiaa that is the surface reading, and it is absolutely correct.

The fact that Orion Oax and D-16's origin is more believable than Anakin and Obi shows how good this film is.
