    If you have a leather item that you need to shrink, the easiest way is to soak the leather in water and then dry it in the sun or with a hair dryer. The combination of moisture and heat tightens the fibers of the leather, causing it to shrink slightly. This can be useful for leather belts, gloves, shoes, jackets, etc

      Will it damage the quality? I bought a really nice pair of leather shoes but it turns out it’s 2cm longer than they said. I want to shrink it but I don’t want to ruin them

    My problem is an 8.5 boot size is slightly too small for my foot arch and a 9 is slightly too big with heel play.

    The reason for me I wear a narrow B width and they are difficult to find ! People no longer have their feet measured and most buy D width not knowing they may wear a B width. I am going try putting them in a dryer !

      Hey Douglas. They really are hard to find . I rarely see that option. It's mostly D and EE.
      Buying instore this issue is solved easy because you can try them on and the seller can give you some advice.
      When buying online it's a bit harder to nail it especially because every freaking boot brand has a different fit. The way I solve this is by buying a few of the same model in a 3 different sizes and widths.
      I just keep the one that fits best and send the other ones back.
      Please let us know if the dryer worked for you👍🏼

    I do roofing and by stepping sideways and it causes the boot to stretch, how can I unstretch it?

    • @BestForMyFeet
      @BestForMyFeet  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Leonardo, I know what you're talking about because I did some work with a gang of roofers.
      Their boots became so wide by stepping sideways that the boots started to look like clown shoes 🙂
      In this case I don't think unstretching them is going to work since you're going back to working in your boots and they end up stretching again. If you do this too much, too often, then the leather will break.
      If I hear or learn something new, I'll drop you a comment here🤜🏼🤛🏼

    I'm just under 2 minutes into your video and was happy to see that your second pair of boots you've shown are military issue. I'm 49 yrs old and have been wearing military issue jungle/field boots since I was 13, Vietnam issue if I can find any that the eBay A-holes aren't selling for $500 a pop. (WTF?)
    Anyway, it's just within the last 7 yrs that I discovered that each size has 5 different width fits per number!! I wear a men's size 6 but it wasn't until I happened to purchase a pair of 6N [narrow] that I was able to experience *True Fit* as if these were tailor made for my very own feet. I could never figure out why some 6's rattled around my feet when the laces were pulled so tight that the tongue couldn't be seen between the eyelets.
    Needless to say, those perfect size 6 boots are so worn out that there are literal chunks of leather missing by each pinky toe where the leather bends- and right now it is winter "wonderland" here in Minneapolis. I have 4 pairs of new-but-used combat boots that definitely won't work but I'm hoping that the info you provide here will help me make these 1984 issue 6R [regular] fit more snugly, because after feeling perfection for the 2 yrs I made those stretch, it's hard to feel like I'm actually Downgrading to a new-to-me barely worn pair!!
    One thing that Can't be altered is the weight of the boots. I've found that the the wider the boot, the heavier they are to wear. Yeah, Duh-right?! But in the case of military issued jungle boots the difference is ridiculously significant, and when your foot is also rattling around inside it makes for an awkward and fatiguing experience- especially as a laborer on a dock who also wears them every day-year round. I sure hope you can help!!
    {P.S. Yes, I have always worn insoles and adjust to the space within the boot for better fit. I find this 'hack' from other channels to be bullshit. Yes, you can better "get away" with wearing a larger size but the fit around the arch and ankle will Always be wrong. It's simple logic.}

      @BestForMyFeet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lynette, thanks for watching. Yeah, it's kinda of hard to find work boots that fits you well, EVERYTIME. Even when you buy the same model you'll have some issues.
      In terms of the weight, you could look into swamping the jungle type outsole (which is usually made from rubber) and get a wedge sole one (assuming they have a Goodyear welt construction). They are ridiculously lighter. But the con is that you won't be able to go off road with them since wedge soles are more for flat surfaces.
      There are times that no matter what you do, you simply can't make it work if the boot isn't the right size.
      Good luck. Let us know how it went!

      @@dennis1248 happy to hear that my man. I'm not a leather expert but I can always comment based on my experience and testing.
      Leather will expand and shrink by doing a few things to it, one of them being talked in this video, but this is a last resort thing.
      I wouldn't do it too many times though because the leather will eventually expand to the point where either breaks easily or you simply won't get the results you use to get the first few times you did this process.
      And just as John said in his comment above, if you oil them, you'll be just fine. That's what I did too. Apply some mink oil or some leather conditioner of your choice and the leather will be fine.

      If that's the case water or moisture will still penetrate the leather but it might take a little bit depending on how much water you put on your boots.
      Just stick your hand inside the boot and feel the leather. If water was absorbed you'll feel the leather being cold or a bit wet.
