    Please different between full gauge and non full gauge roofing sheet.
    I found 0.45mm at full gauge and I found 0.45mm non full gauge but same aluminium roofing sheet has the same thickness

    I actually am getting ready to have a standing seam metal roof installed my house is contemporary and the people I have spoke with said that their price included 26 gauge and I wonder if they would let me order the materials from you guys and they can install it I will be going through yellow hammer roof in Birmingham Alabama

      Durwood, we absolutely could sell you the metal roofing or sell it directly to your contractor. Easiest thing is to email a materials list, sales@westernstatesmetalroofing.com.
      I have a different concern for you though. All standing seam roof systems are expensive, but you end up getting a long lasting and weather-tight product. When you commit to paying that kind of money for a roof it usually means that you also get a higher quality paint. What's the point of getting a roof that will last 50 years if the materials and paint system will not do the same.
      When I hear that you are using 26 gauge I assume two things (I might be wrong, so verify with your installer). I assume it's a SMP paint system and it's a Nailstrip standing seam versus a clip system panel. SMP paint will fade at a much greater rate than PVDF (Aka Kynar) this is especially concerning if you have a color other than white or an earth tone. Also a nail strip panel is way inferior to a clip system panel. Upgrading to a 24 GA in a PVDF paint finish and a clip system panel will cost more, but it's a worthwhile investment that is expected to last the 40-60+ years that you expect. It's worth getting a price to see what the difference will be.
      I have no skin in this game. Just trying to help. Here are a couple of videos that should help you see what I am talking about.

    I own a hotel in Washington state. We do get lots of snow and sometimes wind gusts up to 100. Currently, we have a shingle roof. I want to replace that with a standing seam metal roof. I want to ask you if given our location and the aforementioned facts about snow and wind do you think 24 gauge is sufficient or is it better to go with 22 gauge?

      KJ, In most instances 24 gauge is sufficient including most jobs that we provide in snow country. That being said, it's always a good idea to have an engineer specify the correct gauge for your project. There is just no way I would know enough about the specifics to recommend one vs the other. There is a price difference of about 20% for materials cost when you upgrade the gauge. Given that the bulk of the cost will be labor related it's not that much money as a percentage of the overall job to upgrade to a heavier gauge.

    Should standing seam be manually crimped or with machine?

    • @WesternStatesMetalRoofing
      @WesternStatesMetalRoofing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends upon the type of standing seam. Mechanically fastened will be crimped with a machine. If it's not a mechanically seamed it will not be crimped with a machine.

    Hi, I intend to install solar panels on a standing seam roof (the type where the solar panel frame rests on the ribs/seam), does it have an effect on whether I go for a 24 or 26 gauge?

    • @WesternStatesMetalRoofing
      @WesternStatesMetalRoofing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lawrence, Either gauge will work fine, but there are different considerations to consider. Most importantly use a good solar mounting bracket that will attach to the seam of the standing seam, but not puncture it. S-5 makes the best ones, www.s-5.com/products/roof-clamps/
      Most importantly, standing seam is expensive. It makes very little sense to purchase standing seam in an inferior paint finish such as SMP which is almost always the case with a 26 gauge standing seam panel. Furthermore, 24 gauge is a much better product that just does not cost that much more. If you were doing a corrugated roof you could make a good argument each way for a 26 gauge SMP vs 24 gauge Kynar. With a standing seam panel and the amount of money it cost I would only recommend 24 GA, Kynar (PVDF). Hope that helps.
