Over the past several episodes, VICE has embedded with Johnny at his brick and mortar store in Houston to see how business is doing in the star-studded week leading up to Travis Scott’s music festival, “Astroworld”.
In this episode, we’ll finally get to join Johnny and his crew on the day of the festival, as they make their way to an exclusive, artist-only section of the grounds to set up a luxe tent where they’ll bling out hip-hop’s biggest names, including Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby. There was a shot of Johnny in the beginning praying at his shrine, and idk it made me feel some type of way. I’m Vietnamese as well, and I live in Dallas, and I’ve seen every part of the Johnny dang series on vice and I loved all of them. Johnny reminds me of like one of my Vietnamese uncles the way he looks and talks and the way he pats his son on the head and how he treats his family and loved ones. It’s refreshing for me to see someone of my ethnicity to succeed in a world and a career that is not dominated by Vietnamese.
