Assassin's Creed Shadows is an upcoming action role-playing game (RPG) set in 16th-century Japan, where players take on the roles of a shinobi assassin and a samurai to usher in a new era for the country:
    Setting
The game takes place during the late Sengoku period, when the warlord Oda Nobunaga overthrew the Ashikaga shogunate. Players explore a beautiful open world that includes castle towns, ports, shrines, and landscapes.
    Characters
Players take on the roles of Naoe, a female shinobi assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, an African samurai based on a real-life historical figure. The two characters have different playstyles, skill trees, and weapons, and players can approach quests in multiple ways.
    Gameplay
Players can explore, create a shinobi league, customize a hideout, and build up a spy network. The game features a non-linear campaign with targets that can be tracked in any order. Some targets can be stumbled upon organically, while others require more structured infiltration gameplay.
    Release
Assassin's Creed Shadows is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, macOS, and iPadOS.

My first AC was Black Flag. The naval combat was so fantastic but the melee was terribly boring. My next AC was Odyssey and it was fantastic for me. Loved almost everything about it. Tried Origins and Valhalla and they ended up not holding my attention very long.
I would've been excited for AC in Japan but their tendency to add in their personal social narratives and identity politics have just become obnoxious at this point.
That gameplay would have to be phenomenal for it to get my attention.

Ubisoft started failing after Origins. The original devs of AC said in an interview over a decade ago they would NEVER use 4 settings because they were too "Mainstream" Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Viking Era, Fuedal Japan. They wanted to use less popular settings like Constantinople and bring them into light. Hate it when games don't respect the foundations they were built upon. I am gonna be the devils advocate for a bit , but hear me out. I am gonna say that Yasuke’s story is fresh and different. Samurais like Musashi and Toyotomi, while immensely important and marketable, have already been featured extensively in Japanese and global media for decades. Yasuke, on the other hand, offers a new perspective and narrative that stands out among more familiar samurai stories. Yasuke’s story is relatively under-documented, which gives creators a lot of narrative freedom. Unlike Musashi or Toyotomi, whose lives are well-documented and heavily mythologized, Yasuke’s life is more of a blank canvas. This allows Ubisoft to fill in gaps with creative liberties, expanding his role beyond what history has documented.
HOWEVER If the creators take too many liberties with Yasuke’s integration into samurai culture without addressing the real cultural and racial tensions of that era, it risks creating a narrative that doesn’t respect the actual challenges Yasuke likely faced. The tension between Yasuke’s outsider status and the firm , secluded nature of Japanese society should be central to his story. Oversimplifying how he was accepted by Oda Nobunaga or the other samurai, without exploring the complex dynamics of xenophobia, power, and loyalty, could result in a shallow or even misleading portrayal. As someone who loves history ,this is my biggest concern, and based on the information and footage we’ve seen so far, I doubt Ubisoft will be able to effectively capture the complexity of Yasuke's journey within feudal Japan.

Culture Warriors aren't aware of that because they really hate black people, and are hiding behind a few Japanese critics of the game.

@@RedShadowOfSaturn I've got the attention span, no worries. I finished the video, it sounds like you didn't though. I'm sorry you couldn't get through the video because it wasn't 30 seconds long.
The backlash Ubisoft is receiving is not because there is no Japanese protagonist option, it's due to the blatant butchering of Japanese history for the sake of mediocre pandering and forcing DEI agendas.
Yasuke was hardly a footnote in Japanese history, treated as a pet/party trick during his very short-lived tenure in Japan. He wasn't a samurai.
Japanese history and culture is something Japan takes very seriously, Ubisoft disrespecting their culture like that is plain wrong. Not to mention, all of the other artifacts, buildings, symbols, etc. that they didn't get permission to use in their game.
Try to do some more research on topics before talking about things you clearly don't understand.
      Hope this helps.

@@Shimotsuki_D_Alber Aww, you thought I didn't watch the whole video when I did, that's sweet, bud, appreciate that.
So right off, yes, Naoe is a huge part of this discourse, because LITERALLY not a single person I see screeching about this game "forcing a DEI agenda" discusses her. Know why? Because she doesn't fit into YOUR agenda thinking everything is indoctrination and disrespecting culture. Sorry, bud.
Second, Yasuke wasn't barely a footnote, and even if he was, he really existed, there's pretty decent evidence of his existence and station, and after nearly 20 games of AC taking real people and making their own version (many of whom were LITERALLY NOTHING like they actually were in real life), Yasuke having HIS own version is literally par for the course, and not, what did you call it? "A forced DEI agenda?" Cute, though. Tell on yourself harder. Naoe has entered chat, by the way, she WASN'T real at all, her father was, but keep on that "forced DEI agenda" as if it's real. Uh huh.
And ah yes, Japan, the only country on the planet to care about its culture so much they wouldn't give permission to use images of its landmarks and artifacts. Neat. Wait...are they the only culture to care about those things enough to not give permission? Seems like that's the first I've heard of it after a bajillion AC games have done the same exact thing. Interesting.
Apparently I'm the one who hasn't researched this enough, though. Cool. what am I not understanding again?
Keep in mind...I'm not defending UbiSoft here. They're a terrible company through and through...though it's pretty awesome and super sweet that every person coming down on UbiSoft NOW as a black person is taking front and center for this AC game that isn't even out yet...how did those people feel when stories about UbiSoft was abusing its employees? Did that matter to those people, or do they just care about protesting UbiSoft NOW?
Hope that helps too, clearly you haven't thought your position through very well and are believing some very bad actors. And no, a few folks on TH-cam doesn't constitute "an entire nation."

AC Shadows should have been an easy win for Ubisoft, the Japan setting has been long requested from fans of the series. All they needed to do was bring the same level of quality that was present in AC Odyssey or even Valhalla. I think adding Yasuke to the game was probably one of the worst moves they could have made just because of how controversial his history is. I'm fairly certain if they had just made an original character inspired by Yasuke's story I think they could have avoided much of the backlash they have been receiving.

My favorite all-time AC titles were AC2 (+ its Brotherhood & Revelations DLCs, right) and Origins (as well as Black Flag obviously, but we all know this one is NOT an Assassin's Creed, don't we?) AC2 had by far the best writing & atmosphere in the whole series, and Origins had the absolutely mind-blowing setting & landscapes ever seen in a video game (only problem was, it also inaugurated an era where AC games lost their stealthy side to become more combat-focused, thus losing half of their original soul).
Granted, I haven't played a few of the AC titles, from the sorry AC3 to Unity, and again from Valhalla to Mirage, but those titles I missed were already showing all the flaws & shortcomings that pulled the series down: poor writing, overextended (read, ridiculously & uselessly diluted) playtime, abusive quest markers/POIs/collectibles, a more and more remote link with the original plot at the very roots of the series, increasingly buggier games, performance issues, assumed reinterpretation of History (as in: historical (in)accuracy), and the list goes on.
As a result, Shadows is just the latest piece epitomizing everything that's been wrong with the series for years, amplified by the devs surrendering to today's shitty out-of-place woke culture, and is therefore unlikely to save the company from the series of terrible choices they seem to have taken at heart to tick one after the other. As a matter of fact, it may go as far as being the final nail in Ubi's coffin, especially at an age where the so-acclaimed Ghosts of Tsushima exists. Time will tell of course, but unfortunately I wouldn't hold my breath.

Despite the feedback on star wars. I’m loving outlaws. It’s fresh and just fun. The worlds they built are packed and fun to explore. Overall a great time.

Assassins Creed Odyssey was an absolutely MASTERPIECE I love everything about it and I just wanted that for a Fudal Japanese setting, it’s the first AC game since Odyssey I’ve been excited for, this is really disappointing

I wish we could have had a Kenway Trilogy or quadrilogy.

AC has never been about historical accuracy until Yasuke arrived. Weird that it's such a big issue. If people disliked a game based on the world design and structures being misrepresented that's understandable, In this case the Japanese landmarks are held in high honor so sure they don't want those depicted wrong, but It's a game at the end of the day. I don't play GOW, because the people and landmarks are 100% accurate to the time. I doubt anyone in any AC game actually did what AC devs are saying they did. I honestly feel people shouldn't even judge a game before they play it (Demos should be mandatory). But the gaming world has gotten so bad about 💩on a game based off trailers and personal feelings. That a game can't even come out before it's in the negative.

I think AC has been soulless since Rogue. I desperately wanted Origins to be a masterpiece but when I found out the hidden blade couldnt instakill all enemies I knew the writing was on the wall. CoD used to be a good series too but has also been soulless ever since Bops 2. The state of gaming is pretty sad.

Tom Clancy's EndWar! Best console RTS i've ever played! Only downside was 2v2 matches vs Bots even on the hardest difficulty were always waay too short^^

Ubisoft has been making failed content for the past 8 years. So many fails, we just cannot risk buying some "NEW" game from them, knowing how bad, every game they have made in the last decade is a flop. I have to hold my wallet on this one, and every game they make from this point on, forever. Until I see that the game is good and fun to play. Then, and only then, will I buy something from Ubisoft. Sorry Ubisoft, but your track record is crap and it shows. Paying high dollars for substandard programmers is not a good business model. Most programmers these days are mostly full of hot air. Look around... see many epic games lately... like I said, "Hot Air"!

I always loved assasins creed because of their stealth gameplay as they started to drift away from stealth so too did I start to drift from Ubisoft
