Facebook changed its name to Meta. But does that mean you should trust it?

- Mark Zuckerberg laid out his utopian vision for the Metaverse and announced Facebook (the company, not the app) is changing its name to Meta in order to reflect its new focus. But the company's tone wasn't exactly in line with all the lawsuits, scandals and information in the news recently.

Honestly, my main problem with Facebook has always been privacy. And I don’t think that’s going to change with Meta.
Privacy isn’t dead, even if companies want to believe otherwise.
It seems with the internet, there is no more privacy.

@@Bengiamino Internet makes money on showing ads. As a bussines owner I will turn to the company that does that the best, facebook and google. They are the best beacuse they track they users the best and know which ads to serve them and that results in my ads converting better.

You can use something and still criticize it. A lot of these pages depend on Facebook, meta or whatever to stay relevant and to make a profit but it does not imply that they should suck up to Facebook’s massive flaws.

I found this clip by chance and I really liked what you had to say, keeping it real, not pandering to the big companies and no money under the table to read a teleprompter on what to say about them. I think you should be promoted, you are a good reporter and did a fantastic job. Ashley, I was wanting to ask would it be possible to interview you or do videos together, we are building a new channel based on tech/games/anime, we are based in Tokyo, do let me know. One note, you should also mention about Playstation Home disappeared and Second Life only weirdos use it and it is a very niche thing, did not reach the masses. Playstation home had an advantage as they had game tie-ins into the platform and funnily enough it was based for the PS3 and yet the graphics are so much better than Meta Craps.
This is "Second Life" all over again... And we all know how quickly it gets boring.

All I could think of while watching the Meta presentation was how it was going to be monetised. There's always that catch. Since I don't really think Zukerberg favors "in-purchases", we can't really trust our privacy in worse hands

@@Daka12s I'm sure they would like to have as many users as they can across all age spectrums, but I agree that the younger aged users are more likely to not even be aware of the "scandals" at all or not care about them much. I did feel creeped out while watching MZ's meta presentation because I just couldn't shake the cognitive dissonance of a visibly aging "adult" (or an android as many likened him to) trying to peddle a childishly gameified "minority report"-esque user interface. Right, adults are just dying to have this VR world, because it is... what, cool? I don't know, it is just all completely weird.

This pandemic and shutting down the economy is the 3rd industrial revolution we are already in but not finished and it's the digital era. Digital money, NFT digital art. The smartphone inception in 2012 ruined most of humanities attention span, everyone always looking down at their phone every 3 minutes, everyone at the restaurant not socializing but on there phone and especially kids not even 5 yet with phones in their hands. Mark Zuckerberg already knew we were heading in this direction.

This product is geared towards younger millennials, and gen Z end users. In ten years, everyone is going to forget any fiasco that FB/Meta has gone through. What the metaverse will create though, is its own thriving economy, and that equals a whole lot of money coming in the future.
