    So I’m trying to decide on my first detector.
    It’s a toss up between the Z7000 or the X5000.
    It’s not so much the extra cost of the Z7000 it’s whether I can drag a big coil behind a quad bike with the Z7000?
    I’m 60 and not in the greatest of health, type 2 diabetic a bit overweight at 110kgs & not at all fit these days.
    I KNOW I won’t be able to walk all day swinging a coil, much as the exercise would either kill or cure me!
    But I reckon I could cope with gridding out an area on a quad bike, maybe at night when it’s cooler & the flies are asleep?
    I can’t seem to find much info online on anyone using quad bikes & dragging coils, and zero on the Z7000 doing this.
    It seems like non of the after market coils manufacturers make big coils for the Z7000 that are suited to sled work?
    I have no idea why? Whether Minelabs patented the coil design for the Z7000 maybe & no one else can make them?
    So I’ve been leaning towards a X5000 for that reason.
    Any sage advice for a new chum please?

      Hi Ian, I've never set-up a detector on a quad but from what I know you can get interference between the two, so most drag coils are anti-interference, or a DD coil in Cancel position. The GPZ doesn't have either of these two options. So I think interference between the GPZ and the Quad would be your biggest hurdle. The GPZ also needs a very slow sweep (or motion) for maximum effectiveness, again not the best candidate for a drag set-up. However, the Patch Locate setting can help with this a little.

      IMHO the GPX5000 would not be my choice for a novice purely because it has a bewildering range of setting options. I use a GPX4500 which is far simpler and IMHO superior machine. Have you considered the SDC2300 (coiltek makes some after market coils for this machine that increase it’s versatility). I have one for those days when I cannot handle the weight of the larger machines. like you, I have significant age related health issues but I find that walking with the SDC 2300 seems to be the best exercise for me and I do not have to work too hard. Just sitting on a log to take a break when I want to allows me to marvel at the beauty of the scenery. Use a quad to get to likely spots, then turn it off and immerse yourself in nature. Best of luck

      If you are in bad health maybe consider the sd2300 with a 10x5 coil, its lighter and folds up into a backpack, np on a quad bike. Swinging a 7000 will do you in pretty quick, so for an old guy you would probably stay swinging for longer with the 2300 which will make up for the really deep targets passed over , and less digging, good at crevicing as well

    I sold my 19" Evo and brought the 25 DDX coil for gpx5000. You should do a video on that for comparison against gpz7k. my biggest piece of gold is with 25 DDX is a 43ounce specimen at 207cm. But still everyone says to me to get a gpz7k as it beats gpx5000 hands down. Maybe you could do depth test with both 7k 19" and gpx5000 with 25 DDX.

      @@diggingwithphasetech Just about everyone dreams of finding big nuggets and yet they attack the goldfields with small or medium sized coils. There are big gold still in goldfields if anyone can spend the time walking around with big coils. Unfortunately I haven't beaten 43ounce piece. I have found multiple 1,2,3,5,9 ounce pieces commonly near where there have been heaps of old, even fresh detector holes.

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      About the same, but the 5000 was in Normal timing, which can be challenging to use in more mineralised soils.

  • @thinkforyourself6953
    @thinkforyourself6953 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I was surprised that setting gain at 1 on the 19 Evo you got a nice signal. I usually run full blast on my 4500 when I run mono coils. In my area its around 13 - 14 on the gain. Just wondering Nenad would I be serving my interests better if I reduce gain in order to get better depth to search for bigger gold?

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gain levels can be very different, depending on what Timing you use. Enhance handles ground extremely well, so often you can pump it up. The video was demonstrating the power of Normal timing, which has less ground cancellation dialed in, so often you need to reduce your Rx Gain. Basically set it to where you start to get a bit of feedback while sweeping, then back one click. That way you'll know you are at optimum.

    Great video but I have one question: Why wouldn't you recommend a mono coil in Victoria? Too much mineralized ground or why?

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do recommend mono coils, but you need to be aware of the differences. Mono coils go deeper than DD's, but DD's handle mineralised ground better. So when you are talking GPX series detectors, Monos will normally need to be run in Fine Gold or Enhance, or even Sensitive Smooth timings in extreme soils. With a DD coil you can generally use the Normal timing. So if you want to maximise chances on smaller gold, the Mono & "smooth" timing is the go. If you want max depth on bigger gold, then a large DD in Normal timing is the way to go.

      @@diggingwithphasetech, thank you for your detailed answer! Can anyone tell me what's the benefit of a small coil and what's the benefit of the big coil? Or is there a coil that does most things, newbie to all this, thanks

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Small coils put out a very dense field, so are better at picking up small and hard to see gold like specimens. Bigger coils spread the field out over a bigger area, so will pick up big targets at better depth, but some small gold sensitivity is sacrificed. Mid size coils are good all-rounders

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Nenad , which coil will go deeper 17x13 evo or 19” round evo?

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really depends on target shape, size etc. And also what timing you can use with each coil. Both can go deeper in certain situations. But if you are talking about large sized targets, then the 19" evo will generally go deeper.

    • @reesetownes2401

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Settings can vary a lot depending on ground conditions and EMI levels, but my usual tweaks from Factory Presets in General mode are: Rx Gain - 1 click down, Signal - 18, Tone - 46 (personal preference), Target Volume - 8 (using SteelPhase enhancer), and if EMI is bad (usually is where I go) then I'll go to Quiet Audio with Stabilizer on 15. Also, usually Enhance or Fine Gold timing, unless in milder ground, then I may try Sens Extra. I just listen to the machine, and adjust until it's happy.

    • @diggingwithphasetech
      @diggingwithphasetech  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Steve! The 19" Evo is excellent as it will punch deep but won't sacrifice too much sensitivity. If you're on a budget, you may be lucky enough to find these second hand: Nugget Finder Advantage 18" or 20", Minelab Super Gold Search 18", Commander 18". The Detech is a well priced option if you'd rather buy new. How much depth advantage you'll get over the 14" Elite will really come down to the target. On some gold, smaller pieces or specimens, the 14" may get better depth. On bigger chunky gold, particularly targets over 10grams, you can except the 18"+ coils to get better depth, particularly if you are able to run them in Normal timing.

      That test was carried out in Maldon, Vic. It was pretty mineralised, not the hottest ground in Victoria, but certainly nowhere near mild. When trying to run Normal or Sensitive Extra you can also use Slow Tracking.
