Real shame that this channel isn’t active anymore especially with the recent confirmation and news of the Spyro remaster as well as the Crash remaster last year. I miss these videos so much.
Spyro was one of the greatest games of my childhood. The 3 original Spyro games were BY FAR the best and the real Spyros to me. The rest of them were crap
I enjoyed all of them. I think the legend of Spyro series came out at just that right time for me, the only one i hate is shadow legacy that's just boring and bland at least in enter the dragonfly you can have fun breaking the game xD
Pretty sure someone already said this, but you know Spyro's name in Japan was actually Spyro, right? The name is written in Katakana: スパイロ, but because the way the logo looked in Japan, that's where the Ripto gag came from.
***** Yeah I remember when i was 5 or 6 after beatin the original having to save all my pocket money for a couple of months to be abel to buy spyro 2. :D memories
I put so much time into Ripto's Rage to get 100% and finally getting to Dragon Shores and getting the permanent fireball attack was friggin' amazing. xD
I played spyro since 1999 and I still play the first three ones. those games were my childhood and I thought I know everything about them... I did not know about the crash demo on spyro one :3
Man those games were the best, I remember getting the PS1 collectors edition that came with Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage and Spyro: Year of the dragon for my 5th or 6th birthday and I couldnt and would not stop playing it. Sadly, I dont have it anymore :/ I'm gonna have to buy it again on PS3 just for old times sake and take a stroll down memory lane.
Ah Spyro, those were my favorite games from the early PS1 days. Although I personally liked Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon more than Spyro the Dragon. I just adored Hunter from those games ("They have claws like *this*, teeth like *this* and breathe fire like *THIS*- Ppttah ppttah!") and Elora ("I'm a fawn you dork!"), and I didn't realize that Tom Kenney (Spongebob Squarepants and Ice King) was the Professor! I wasn't even into Spongebob when Ripto's Rage came out! Some of my fondest memories are playing the skateboarding mini games in Year of the Dragon (yeah I was totally into the Tony Hawke games even though I was never into skateboarding) on a Saturday morning, taking turns with my two younger brothers and eating freshly made peanut butter cookies from the grocery store, they were surprisingly delicious! Ripto's Rage was also my coping mechanism when a friend and I watched Evil Dead for the first time and had to turn off the movie after the "tree scene", we needed to get the image out of our heads. ...I'm sure the girl running this channel is reading my comments about my weird childhood and thinking, "wtf is this chick posting on my videos?!" lol. I can't help it, these videos are sending me on a nostalgia trip and it's fun sharing my odd memories. Helps me to feel a kinship with fellow gamers that grew up playing these games. And OHMYGAWD, I *hated* those little egg thieves or whatever they were!! I would spend hours just chasing them in a circle, just barely catching them and having to start all over again! Also yeah, Moneybags was such an asshole! I hated that you couldn't set him on fire when you tried your flame breath on him! Although I found it jarring when they completely changed his character for the Spyro games with Elijah Woods and made him some weird Middle Eastern trader with a thick Indian accent.
List of my favourites: 1. Spyro: Year of the Dragon 2. Spyro the Dragon 3. Spyro: Gateway to Glimmer I love Gateway to Glimmer but I enjoyed the other two just a bit more, the second one was still one of my favourite games ever
Spyro:Gateway to Glimmer Spyro:Year of The Dragon Spyro the Dragon If I had to pick. Ever though about Ripto's Rage? If the word Ripto is Spyro is Japanese, that means that the game is basically Spyro:Spyro's Rage
People don't even play Call of Duty for the actual "game." They get it for the multiplayer which tends to improve upon each release. It makes me wonder why the series can't be an MMO or something.
Fun Fact for Spyro 1 Lore, Spyro was playing hooky from school that day when Gnasty Gnorc turned all the dragons into crystal. Spyro was regarded as a severe trouble maker and a real delinquent in the dragon realms, at least in the Artisan Home worlds, yet he became the greatest hero to all the Dragon Realms.
Me and my grandparents still play through all 3 original spyro and crash games like 3 times a year. After 11 years of playing the games, my grandpa is still better at beating every Crash boss than me.
She called out call of duty 10 years ago and the problem has only gotten worse and more expensive. But then again, I'm here cause I bought the spyro reignited series so I can't really talk 😂 The remaster was really well done tho and adds so much detail to the old visuals.
This video is so nostalgic for me, I remember coming home from school after rediscovering the Crash and Spyro games thanks to this channel. Thanks for a nice, in depth explanation of the games’ history.
Oh the nostalgia. I really like this video because it is informative and simple; this will surely help me with choosing which Spyro game I going to download on my PS3.
The first Spyro the Dragon game was not only one of my favorite games of my youth, but it was the VERY FIRST video game I ever owned AND played (I got it for my third birthday along with my Playstation). Same went for my parents. If anything, Spyro was always one of my heroes. Spyro three is one of my all time favorite games and it brings near worship from me. And then... Enter the Dragonfly... ugh...
Quite a few people have said that the Spyro games that don't Insomniac behind the wheel are a betrayal, but I can't for the life of me tell you why they feel that way. Hell, I personally like the newer Spyro games as much as the PS1 trilogy, although that may just be because, like I've said countless times, I have no standards.
These games were my jam, brings me nostalgia! I saved my PlayStation 2 and bought a new copy of Spyro: Year of the Dragon a few years back and gave it another go, finally beat it haha. This game was my entire childhood though, it's a shame these other companies couldn't replicate what the original games had. :/
I remember first playing these games as a kid on my Ps1 and loving them I sadly never had Ripto`s rage however I do have my copies of Spyro the dragon and Spyro year of the dragon.
I still own my Spyro and Spyro: Year of the Dragon.. just now getting around to playing Ripto's Rage on a emulator. Still one of my favorite game series for the ps1 and Year of the Dragon was in my top 5 favorite games for ps1.
Along with a PSOne, I used to own Spyro: Year of the Dragon starting from the age of 8(?). I had a good time with the game, even though I never completed it but I did get to Midnight Mountain.
I got my Spyro: Year of the Dragon when I was 5. I managed to beat the game at age of 7 :). However reaching Midnight Mountain is also a good achievement :)
Oh the memories i have with that egg thief. I remember as a kid i had a faster way to catch them. Just charge until your close enough then flame, its about 5 seconds quicker.
I love Spyro so much ^.^ I remember when I was younger I would rent spyro games from the local video store all the time. Of course I own all of them now but man... those were the good days.
Lol I remember it taking FOREVER to catch all the thieves in the tree tops level. Hey, actually I still have all three in my basement, maybe I should play it again…
malik kanjo you know you don't have to buy the game if you don't want to and i know what i mean buying characters but its fun sometimes since its part of like hunting for certain characters but i respect your opinion we all have out own opinion.
Memories, Year of Dragon was one of my favorite Spyro games also first Spyro game I bought. Then bought other twi perious games afterward. Spyro is my first & all-time favorite video game character.
The first three Spyro games were the best! Although I still hold a subconscious grudge towards Ripto's rage, mainly because I played Year of the Dragon before I played it and it pissed me off a whole lot that I couldn't swim, climb, headbutt, etc at the beginning of the game.
Hi *****, I wanted to leave an honest opinion and objective response to a few of the videos of yours that I have recently watched. I have now gone through both your Crash Bandicoot and Spyro retrospectives, and I found them both to be very informative and professional, so props for that! I appreciated your detailed perspective on the inner workings of the companies involved, showing that you have done your research. I'd also like to compliment you on your willingness to put yourself through some rather "bad" games for the sake of giving an honest and unbiased summary/review. Your dedication and hard work is evident. What I would suggest to further improve the quality of your videos is to work on the pacing of sequences and dialogue. It is not only important to be informative, but engaging. At times, it seems like what you are saying could be quickened or summed up to keep the viewer more interested. We obviously wouldn't be here if we didn't want to find out about the history of these wonderful games, but that doesn't mean it needs to take over 15 minutes to do it. If you've read this far, I want to thank you. This is only an opinion from a rather unqualified viewer, as I do not create, edit or produce any sort of TH-cam-related media. I think what you are doing here has great potential and I think you are doing a wonderful job.
Really good video even for strangers viewers. You speak clearly and, even without subtitles, we can understand you easily... My favourite Spyro was however, the third, "Year of the Dragon"... Full of thieves, too ^^
Excellent work. Brings back a lot of good old memories... I do have a question though. I think I've heard about that A.C.T thing before, but I never noticed it when I was a kid. How does it make the game harder? What becomes more difficult?
Spyro was my childhood game and this may sound weird but going to all those different worlds as a young kid really expanded my consciousness. Also not to mention the game improved my spatial awareness and problem solving skills. Games have degenerated over the years.
I really like your videos. I remember playing the Spyro demos on some of the Crash games back in the day. My favorite one of all time was Year of the Dragon. Me and my brothers and sisters would spend hours playing and taking turns. Shelia the Kangaroo was my favorite character to play as.
damn you are right, i mean my father was 40 back then and he had no interest in videogames but when he saw me playing this at the begining he only watched and after a couple of days he asked me to give him the controller to play it, and i was like whaaaaat i didnt believe it, it was the first and only game my father has ever played.
AWESOME HISTORY INFORMATION ABOUT THE "OLD DAYS SPYRO!" :D I never knew anything about Ted Price! :0 Now I adore him. :) The years CERTAINLY HAVE CHANGED SO MUCH. Towards video games, celebrities, t.v. shows, and so on. I wonder why nowadays ALMOST EVERYTHING has to do nothing with CREATIVITY. Well, Spyro the dragon is my CHILDHOOD GAME. :D I love him! :D
Love your vids! Spyro the dragon was my first game ever and you really did him justice!! Its a shame how spyro ended as a side-character in skylander though...
You forgot to mention that 'Spyro Ripto's Rage' is called 'Spyro Gateway to Glimmer' outside North America. And please include 'Spyro A Hero's Tail' and 'The Legend of Spyro' series in Part 2. Those are great :)
Yeah they ONLY have two games to play in a reality where the video game industry is the biggest and has created the most diverse population of games. That statement "I feel for the kids of todays generation that only have games like COD and Battlefield.." should not be used as a solid point for proof that you are part of a better generation because that statement is a hyperbole.
Bradley Graves Yeah, no. There are plenty of great games out there nowadays. To compare one series from PS1 to the plethora of great games available nowadays is ridiculous. We are in the golden age of gaming.
Qtwentyseven We are in the golden age of gaming, but the people that are in this age of gaming are stupid little fuck heads tbh, (not all) and I'm not comparing one series to it, i'm comparing all old gen consoles to new gen consoles.
QQ I NEVER CAUGHT THE RAINBOW THIEVS FROM THE FOREST LEVEL :( My copy of the game surcame to a million scratches years ago. I was a messy child and didn't handle the discs well.
Such great memorise. The music from Spyro 1 can instantly trigger a feeling of nostalgia to me, maybe it is the bass in the music. Anyway it is very unique from other VG music.
Fun fact: Money Bags is played by Milton James (sometimes credited as Richard Barnes), a voice actor who also played Aiguille Delaz in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.
Me: I didn't even know those were bosses. XD "I didn't even know they were bosses." *instantly loves* I think you spoke very clearly and you were pleasant to listen to. Great video!
I agree with your thoughts on Spyro 3 not having the cutscenes before and after levels. I love those! (It's one of the reasons I actually like Spyro 2 over Spyro 3.)
Considering you've done a review on games like Far Cry 3 and ACIII, if there's one game you really should make a review out of it's the Tomb Raider (2013). Also, awaiting eagerly for the 2nd part of History of Spyro! Keep up the good work!
I think it's pretty cool how Insomniac Games and Naughty Dog became big name companies. Disruptor certainly wasn't the biggest commercial success, but it helped get Insomniac Games into the video game market and release a trilogy of smash hits (the PS1 Spyro the Dragon trilogy), similar to how Way of the Warrior was for Naughty Dog in that it got them a contract with Universal Interactive Studios to make three more games (the first three Crash Bandicoot games on the PS1).
Real shame that this channel isn’t active anymore especially with the recent confirmation and news of the Spyro remaster as well as the Crash remaster last year. I miss these videos so much.
Jayden Yugi
Ikr after the announcment I imeddiently thought of this channel. It's a shame this really was such a great channel
Why this channel stopped?
This video was so nostalgic for me. I grew up playing the original Spyro trilogy. The awful new games really destroyed my childhood.
Anyone 2019? This channel is so nostalgic for me. I remember watching this video over and over again like 5 years ago...
We need an update video tbh
4 years late but yeah me too
Spyro was one of the greatest games of my childhood.
I'd actually like to see a remake of Enter the Dragonfly. I know it probably won't happen, but one can dream!
Pretty sure someone already said this, but you know Spyro's name in Japan was actually Spyro, right? The name is written in Katakana: スパイロ, but because the way the logo looked in Japan, that's where the Ripto gag came from.
The original Spyro was the best in my opinion. Sometimes you just can't beat the classics.
8:57 Its becasue they're just casual gamers, that don't care about innovations or quality and play the same game 24/7. I pity them.
spyro 2 is by far my favorite in the series, so many memories!
Spyro is the best game ever! In fact... I now need to play it all again! ^_^
get the remastered edition
spyro rypto's rage was the first game i have ever beaten. it holds a lot of great memories for me.
***** Yeah I remember when i was 5 or 6 after beatin the original having to save all my pocket money for a couple of months to be abel to buy spyro 2. :D memories
I put so much time into Ripto's Rage to get 100% and finally getting to Dragon Shores and getting the permanent fireball attack was friggin' amazing. xD
I remember that game from when I was younger, I don't think I knew how to play it but I still had fun lol
Same :)
I played spyro since 1999 and I still play the first three ones. those games were my childhood and I thought I know everything about them... I did not know about the crash demo on spyro one :3
Yeah same here
The Spyro trilogy was a cool part of my childhood. And I say trilogy because those are the only ones I liked.
Man those games were the best, I remember getting the PS1 collectors edition that came with Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage and Spyro: Year of the dragon for my 5th or 6th birthday and I couldnt and would not stop playing it. 11:43 oob is not a "major flaw", rarely does a casual player run in to it and it's great for speedrunning.
Damn its really been 8 years since this came out. Im playing the remade version and had to come check this video out again.
List of my favourites:
1. Spyro: Year of the Dragon
2. Spyro the Dragon
3. Spyro: Gateway to Glimmer
I love Gateway to Glimmer but I enjoyed the other two just a bit more, the second one was still one of my favourite games ever

Spyro the Dragon
If I had to pick.
Ever though about Ripto's Rage? If the word Ripto is Spyro is Japanese, that means that the game is basically Spyro:Spyro's Rage
*****
Read that again
kikicupcake1000 In my opinion, it's:
1. Spyro: Year of the Dragon
2. Spyro: Gateway to Glimmer
3. Spyro the Dragon
I know I use both sometimes
I totally agree what she said about call of duty, HOW is it still selling it's hardly that much difference each year
People don't even play Call of Duty for the actual "game." They get it for the multiplayer which tends to improve upon each release.

I loved the part in where you show of how much of a troll the thief is. xD
This video is so nostalgic for me, I remember coming home from school after rediscovering the Crash and Spyro games thanks to this channel. Thanks for a nice, in depth explanation of the games’ history.
love you for your cod opinion!!! you are totally right!
The early stuff is defiantly the best. I still enjoy playing it after all these years. Go Spyro.
That call duty diss. And missing old games from how hard relentless they were earned yourself a subscriber
Excellent video! First of yours I have watched! I love how much detail there is about this series.
7:55 most epic moment in history of gaming
The thief was charged...FOR AMERICA!!!
Spyro has got to be my favorite game hero. Its cool to learn about his creation. Can't wait for part 2.
I want spyro so badly in sm4sh lol
After 3 minutes of this video and this being the first vid i watch from you... I'm already subbed! :D
Oh the nostalgia. I really like this video because it is informative and simple; this will surely help me with choosing which Spyro game I going to download on my PS3.
These retrospectives are great! Subscribed
And then... I really like watching these retrospectives great job, also spyro is my favourite game series of all time :D
LennsGamingWorld Spyro is one of my favorite game series as well. I heart Spyro.
Plejaren xDelta old guy (that i can't remember the name of who says this line): Remember him...
LennsGamingWorld I don't know.
i miss this channel
Thank you so much for sticking to your word and creating a Spyro retrospective!

I remember first playing these games as a kid on my Ps1 and loving them I sadly never had Ripto`s rage however I do have my copies of Spyro the dragon and Spyro year of the dragon.
I love how this really goes into detail. These sort of things are entertaining to me. You little miss got a sub.
These were truly the games that I started with. I would play these for hours!
I still own my Spyro and Spyro: Year of the Dragon.. just now getting around to playing Ripto's Rage on a emulator. Still one of my favorite game series for the ps1 and Year of the Dragon was in my top 5 favorite games for ps1.
This is very interesting. I had no idea Naughty dog and Insomniac games interacted with each other. Both of them make my favourite games.
They're great companies
Don't forget that the OSTs for these games are elite! Such good music. And thank you for calling out CoD.
*****
Right. I see; cool. Aww thanks. ^///^
Oh the memories i have with that egg thief. I remember as a kid i had a faster way to catch them. Just charge until your close enough then flame, its about 5 seconds quicker.
Love! just played Spyro on PSP and re-watched this great video :)
I loved Ripto's Rage. It was definitely my favorite game for the PS1, though I could never beat it.
I love Spyro so much ^.^ I remember when I was younger I would rent spyro games from the local video store all the time. Of course I own all of them now but man... those were the good days.
What? They don't mention anything about celebrating the Year of the Dragon so that's why they laid the eggs in Spyro 3!!
Lol I remember it taking FOREVER to catch all the thieves in the tree tops level. Hey, actually I still have all three in my basement, maybe I should play it again…
Oh god I hated the Tree Tops level.
I can't believe Spyro 2 was created in under 2 years by only 13 people. Absolutely astounding.
I loved spyro as a kid, but now...skylanders.......
DataProwler whats worse : they added cynder and sparx 2
skylanders is crap you have to buy the things to play which is bullshit
malik kanjo you know you don't have to buy the game if you don't want to and i know what i mean buying characters but its fun sometimes since its part of like hunting for certain characters but i respect your opinion we all have out own opinion.
Skylander is an ok enough game. My gripe is that they slapped Spyro on there just to increase sales. Bastards..
lugiafilmer
soz my big bro was on my acount

The Spyro franchise returned in 2018 with the release of Spyro: Reignited Trilogy. It is a fantastic game and it made Spyro great again.
Really good video even for strangers viewers. You speak clearly and, even without subtitles, we can understand you easily... My favourite Spyro was however, the third, "Year of the Dragon"... Full of thieves, too ^^
That red thief in Treetops for Spyro the Dragon was so hard, but I did it! :)
Spyro and Crash, my childhood.
Spyro 2 and the jump glitch made the game so much fun! That's when it really felt like a complete open world game :D
Spyro 2 Riptos Rage was my very first PS1 game and was also my favorite Spyro game
As soon as Guile's Theme started, this became my favorite video !!
Subscribed because of the Call of Duty thing, totally agree.
Spyro 2 = my childhood game.
I really like your videos. I remember playing the Spyro demos on some of the Crash games back in the day. My favorite one of all time was Year of the Dragon. Me and my brothers and sisters would spend hours playing and taking turns. Shelia the Kangaroo was my favorite character to play as.
This makes me want to buy a ps1 and play these again to relive my childhood. Ah, the memories.
You finally did a spyro history! Thank you thank you!
you weren't wrong about grandparents liking spyro, my grandmother actually loved playing spyro 2 with me when i was younger and dhe still does :)
damn you are right, i mean my father was 40 back then and he had no interest in videogames but when he saw me playing this at the begining he only watched and after a couple of days he asked me to give him the controller to play it, and i was like whaaaaat i didnt believe it, it was the first and only game my father has ever played.
Spiro was easily a series that looked offputting but gave a much different perspective once you got your hands on it and played it.
She really knows her stuff and did her research. Subscribed! Love these retrospective videos. Brings back memories alright
So much effort and so interesting! Love your videos!
3:52 Must've worked. Spyro was my first video game, and I played it with my grandmother.
Nice keep up the good work btw you ever thought about doing GTA retrospective? :D
I played them all, but Spyro 1 is the most memorable to me. Simple and elegant.
This is great, exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
Ripto's Rage was my favorite Spyro by far! 8D! I miss that game!
Part 2 is going to be soooooooooo depressing XD Amazing video once again though =D Greatly looking forward to part 2! Kiiiiiiind of
A new retrospective episode? MY NIGHT IS SAVED! X3
I feel for the kids of todays generation that only have games like COD and Battlefield to play.. They're so bland, and lack diversity.
I know there more than 2 games, theres maybe like 10 Xbox 360 games worth playing, the rest are all repetitive shit.
Bradley Graves
Yeah, no.

Every generation sucks.
Oh heck yeah, new TGD Retrospective!

I NEVER CAUGHT THE RAINBOW THIEVS FROM THE FOREST LEVEL :(
My copy of the game surcame to a million scratches years ago. I was a messy child and didn't handle the discs well.
Emulators FTWWW!!! Coolroms is the place to start!
siiicknamedude I still have my original 3 Spyro games and in very good condition. :)
Out of all the games I have played this is the only one I have gotten a 100%.
XD
"I didn't even know they were bosses."
*instantly loves*
I think you spoke very clearly and you were pleasant to listen to. Great video!
I agree with your thoughts on Spyro 3 not having the cutscenes before and after levels. I love those! (It's one of the reasons I actually like Spyro 2 over Spyro 3.)
U need so many more subs. U really deserve more. :D
What a great a video and a brilliant channel! Sub
I love your videos! Keep them coming!
Spyro is love, Spyro is life. R.I.P. 1998-2000 :(
