Can’t fault the K series at all! It’s got torque unlike the B series, all while still retaining great power and reliability. And 6-speed availability makes old Honda restomods worthwhile given there’s a cruising gear for the highway, not to mention the slick shift action and perfectly weighted clutch this brand is known for. I’m surprised no other manufacturer has followed suit.
Would love to setup my CRX with that S2000 cluster. K swap is a long way off for my car. Mine is stock without power steering and it’s a blast to drive
Been 20 years since I lost my CRX (someone decided to crash into the side of it) and it's been itching a lot lately. I am however an old man now (41) and I want something less noisy. I think a K24 with stock Accord mufflers would be ideal for me.
I'm the proud owner of a 89 CRX dx with a built b16 swap. I built the motor 10 years ago, back then B-swaps were still affordable and K-swaps were rather expensive in comparison. Not to mention the amount of aftermarket parts and understood tuning potential of the K motors were still poor vs what people were still doing with B-series. That said, If I were to build another EF today, it would be a K-series. Would I swap my b16 for a K? No, the b16 crx is a solid platform. I'll boost it before I swap out again.
@@nicktorres4064 it’s not fun but Hondas are on the easy side of swaps. Going through the BAR process is stressful and can get expensive if you need to go multiple times. Depends on what you swap, you’ll need the obd port to work properly, all evap and smog equipment working (cats, fuel tank, smog pump, etc). Most of the swaps here are illegal though lol
@@nicktorres4064 As Sammy put it "Most of the swaps here are illegal" I did my build while living in SoCal. It was always sketchy to bring the car out. Only to take the stock parts off and box em up till next smog date. Best (most difficult) thing you can do is be friends with a Smog tech and keep him happy. I moved to WA state a couple years ago, registered my 89 crx as a "collector vehicle" and now I don't need to worry that anything I do to the car will be illegal. The Plates are permanent, never have to renew stickers. No inspection, let alone smog check.
I have a 92 eg hatchback, with a k24 swap, with a k20 oil pump. 50gear. I have it to rev 8k kerp it safe. Car is gutted. Is tune on 93 Fast little car.
If it’s a street car, I’d recommend the B series, especially if you plan on lowering it. I own both a K and B swapped CRX, and the B swapped car I don’t have to worry about at all with oil pan and exhaust clearance issues like I do my K20 car
I've had my b16 crx for 10 years, it was cheaper to B-swap back then and K-series was very expensive. The amount of aftermarket parts and the understood tuning potential of the K motor has come a long way in 10 years too. That said, a simple b20 non-V would be the best bang for the buck swap. It would be the simplest to add on a turbo as well. As @billy Bob said, it all depends on what your plans and expectations are for the car. If you have nothing but time and money. K-swap and build from there. But if you have a set budget and want to just see gains, a B-series CRX is very respectable.
My first car was a rare 1990 model Honda CRX moonroof d16 twin cam, wish I still had the car my dad sold it on me for $800. Just imported mine from Japan, a D series and looking to K swap it. Can anyone recommend any workshops in Sydney that would K swap and if anyone has gone through this process, what is the total cost of the K swap?
I came here to say this. I own a K20a type R Si CRX and a B18C Type R CRX. The B series is more enjoyable to drive on the street. I can keep the B series car lower due to not having to worry about destroying the oil pan if the K car was at the same height as my B series car. I couldn’t imagine having to deal with the taller K24 in that regard. Getting the exhaust to fit right with the swap headers that are available for them is difficult too (some point the collector at an odd angle which causes the exhaust to not fit right under the car). I also don’t care for the K trans like I do the B trans. Shift linkage feels better than the cables. I was also able to retain the AC compressor with my B setup, and I didn’t have to buy a different hood due to fitment issues for my B series car, which are getting expensive. For a dedicated race car, no doubt do a K series. For a DD, I would stick with B series in a CRX/hatch. Just my .02
