  • The Cartier Tank was the watch to wear in the 20th century and remains an icon today. With a streamlined design and clean lines, it is well-loved by famous personalities from actors, politicians, and musicians.
One of the most coveted models today is the Tank Solo released back in 2004 with flatter brancards and a thicker case. This used to be the ultimate entry-level watch for Cartier until the French maison launched the new generation of Tank Must in 2021. The new Must models come with the classic Tank Louis silhouette in steel and matching hands. What’s the difference between the Tank Solo and Tank Must? Check out our review to find out.

The 1911 handgun is about the only other equivalent to the Tank that I can think of. It debuted prior to WW1 and is still made with new iterations that are loved by enthusiasts of that field today.

I really like the sharp, flat lines of the Solo, is stunning in its simplicity. It appears thinner/flatter than the Must but is hard to tell. I like the bracelet style but the leather band is beautifully understated. Great review.

Thorough presentation, torn between the black leather strap or stainless steel. Definitely getting it for my collection.

After having the steel bracelet since December...I am also purchasing a Strap with deployment (in Alligator). I did not care for the grain on the Calf skin that came standard with the Must XL. Since the watch has a quick change feature I decided to start with the steel and order the skin I preferred later. Have loved the watch hope you enjoy yours.

Also note I understand if you purchase from a Boutique you get 4 extra links for the bracelet. If you buy from an AD you do not...my AD wants $75.00 ea for a link.

Love my Solo and got it specifically because of the, flat edges

I wonder how durable the leather strap is? How often should it be replaced? And how much does it cost to replace it?

The Tank Must large has the same size and shape as the Tank Louis. That makes it very attractive. As for the XL: not too large for a watch, but for a Tank. They did make large watches already in the 1920s, but there always curved to follow the wrist.

The Tank Must XL is way too large in my opionion, at that size I'd go for a Santos Dumont. The Tank Must Large has a much more classical look but still large enough to have an great presence on an average wrist size.

I have an 8” wrist. This works perfectly for me,…and I get an automatic movement, the beautiful second hand and the date complication. Value? Off the charts.

I now prefer my rectangular watch than my dream cartier which only give time.
    My Rectangular Huawei gives:
    1. SP02 info
    2. Month/Day/date/time
    3. Heart monitor
    4. Weather/temperature
    5. Notification
    6. Timer
    7. Flashlight
    8. Etc

Take the XL and drop the size to a large. There is a huge gap in their SS Tank line with no automatic movement for the size Large.

If only the made this in a size large. XL is just a little too large for the average size wrist imo.

Not a fan of any Cartier that has a date window and loses the VI Roman numerals at 6 o'clock. Totally spoils the balance and style of the dial and once seen can't be unseen.😫5:35 clearly shows the difference.

Date window on the XL model changes this watch from a design classic to a high street disposable. Who ever designed this should be fired.
