The 18k rose gold Tank Louis Cartier with the dark brown alligator strap is the perfect Cartier watch for me. This is the model that tries to stay true to its rich heritage. It measures 33.7mm x 25.5mm, which is pretty small for today's standards, but this size was considered large for a watch back in the early 1900's. The steel version of the Tank Solo has a quartz movement and a synthetic cabochon set into the crown, wheras the Louis Cartier features a mechanical movement (calibre 8971 MC) and the crown is set with a genuine sapphire cabochon. Classical yet understated, it's a timeless masterpiece.

Great timing, Jenni. I finally picked up my Santos 100 last week. It is fantastic. It’s gigantic and sporty but also somehow still dressy. Really maintains the spirit of the 1904 original. My wife has the Tank Francaise, so now we are kind of a matching pair. Great video, thanks.

One of the finer aspects of the gentle art of gift giving is meeting the recipient’s desires. My sister and brother in-law are much less fussy people than I am and not given to having item that require much attention. Having luxury watches that require services isn’t something that they’d be happy about so a quartz piece serves their needs best. To mark their anniversaries a pair of quartz Cartier tanks was just the answer. Every few years they call their jeweler, make arrangements to have their batteries replaced, go to a nearby café for an espresso and a slice of quiche, and when they return their watches are cleaned and polished. During this lockdown period I was thankful for my small collection of Seiko solar powered Quartz watches including my little gold tank. My nickname is Solarman and friends call me Solar so as far as I’m concerned Seiko monogrammed my watches for me.
    There’s a product for everyone.

Couldn’t agree more with your view of the convenience of quartz. My wife gifted me a Tank Solo, and as my dress piece, it doesn’t get a lot of wrist time. However, it’s all ready to go for the occasional suit-n-tie outing, something my 48 hr power reserve Speedy n Oyster Perpetual cannot do.
    Great reviews.

Such a great point. I'm planning on getting my wife a tank, and I know if it were mechanical it would rarely be worn in comparison to the convenience of quartz for this type of watch. Without a seconds hand, I really don't see it as an issue whatsoever.

Nice to see Cartier getting some love. I dismissed the brand myself until I saw reviews of the 2018 Santos and the quick strap system. Amazing bracelet adjustment system with innovative engineering. That along with the design and the heritage was enough for me and I bought one, the large with the date. I can see myself adding another Cartier at some point, particularly as I am getting bored with waiting on a call from the Rolex AD for an Explorer.

Louis-Françoir Cartier (1875-1942) was a great friend with brazilian aviation pioneer Santos Dumont (1873-1932). He asked his friend a wristwatch and played an important role popularizing its use by men on 1900s.

I just bought a Tank today. It really fits the wrist well though. The sales person said it was the Must (redesigned with the hidden logo at 10) and may be the woman’s size. It is smaller than my Patek 3796 but may near the original Tank size. Other than my Casios, this is my only quartz watch but I love the design so much, I had to get it. Warhol was right, it is THE watch to wear.

Love my 100 but DO NOT lose any bezel screws. Cartier absolutely refuse to supply replacements instead insisting I send it to them to be assessed. I didn't need it assessed, there was a missing screw! Not a difficult diagnosis. I suspect they may have wanted to service it too. Luckily found an independent repairer who wouldn't reveal where he could get screws. Even this fix set me back around €80 though! PS - Is it the light or are screws on your 100 damaged?

There´s an even newer model still which got introduced on Baselworld 2018 with the all new in-house MC1847 movement, "easy switch" system (from bracelet to strap) and "smart link" (size adjustment on the bracelet) without any tools. That´s the one to get and the one you should have presented here in a video launched well over two years after it´s debut.

People do seem so split over if Cartier watches are any good, and if Cartier are even legitimate watchmakers.
Yet I think the Santos Dumont, the Crash, and indeed, especially the Tank... are three of the most iconic, and important, watches ever made. They are finely made too. No doubt.
Have any other Fashion/Jewelry houses made watches so important and iconic? Is there an Armani watch in the same league? A Police watch that matches? Even a Bvlgari... and they make reasonable watches...???
    NO.
You do not make three of the most famous watches ever made, by accident, as a fluke, getting lucky, as some designer jewelry house, who just got in to watches on whim.
Cartier is a legit horological contender for consideration as masters of the craft, and their watches are very good. I am not sure why so many in horological fandom, view them so poorly. Then again, I am not heavily in to the scene, my knowledge is limited, and my interest far from obsessive, so maybe I am missing something. Yet at face value, to see Cartier as anything other than a major contributor to watchmaking and maker of wonderful watches, seems thoroughly absurd.

Some people, my wife being one of them, prefer quartz watches. She doesnt like having to wind a watch. Mainly because she feels she might break the watch. So for example she prefers her black ceramic and steel aqua racer with diamonds to her rolex OP. So its a preference thing.
At least Cartier watches do to some extend retain some decent value as opposed to Tag or IWC. So they have that going for them.

My thought about quartz in the Tank Solo: Convenience. Women wear watches for more as jewellery, switching between precious metal colors or matching the occasion. So the watch stays on the dresser among other, to be worn to certain occasions. Having quartz then, means no hassle, it will run and it will be punctual. So I think if you have a cocktail party once a month or a gala once a year and the watch is needed, it is there, working. No need for the obsession of movements inside, technical achievement, or historical accomplishment which men tend to prefer to focus on. A nice piece of jewellery that happens to always also tell the time

Let me tell you something: it was Aoberto Santos Dumont, the same inventor of the first airplane who designed the first wrist watch, since when he was flying it was dificult to consult time sunce the watches back then were kept in the pocket, Santos Dumbt then asked his friend Louis to produce the watch frim his design.

There is definitely something about the Tank that makes me understand why it has a cult following. Great watch. My personal favorite Cartier are any slightly larger modern Santos, just like the one you showed. Nice combo between the model's history and modern usability.

I did some internet digging for ya. It's by a German maker called "Kaufmann". And this particular strap is their "CLASSIC NUBUCK VELOUR Ref. 1056" I am not sure about the color but I'm pretty sure its their "tourterelle" color. Her's is in their large length: 75/115mm, and the width on her's is 18mm at the lugs and tapered down to 16mm at the buckle. Hope that helps

Hi dear youtuber I love all Cartier’s watch new and old but they prices are impossible for normal people, only the new model “Solo” has the price for someone love it. And I bought one of it with bracelets all stainless steel.
I was in Cannes (France) with friends.
I think that was my only opportunity to buy a Cartier because taxes in France are minor respect my country.

How about a video about Piaget Solo S. Given the how difficult it is to get a Naut. or Royal Oak, this watch imo is a great option (definitely not a backup) for a luxury steel sports watch

Hi Jenni, Tank solo is really the one for me here! I like the design of its so much I got a chance to try them on at the boutique.
Question is, i’m male 6.5 inches wrist, i tried both Small and Large size and tend to like to Small size more! As it is closer to vintage watch size and it predecessor. What do you think, can a man wear the small one appropriately?

Great video! I like them all! But I do like the idea of sharing with my partner (even though she doesn't like watches). When we both hit the town she could wear it and I could wear one of my others :)
