There is a story of a German banker, Dr Thomas Bscher. He used to commute to work in his F1 on the autobahn between his home in Cologne and his office in Frankfurt at speeds over 200mph on a regular basis. His story was validated when McLaren downloaded the ECU's log via the on-board modem connection to the factory. The factory checked over the car's data feed and discovered that it had been hitting 200mph, every single day of the week!
Exactly. I read that story in the French Sport Auto magazine. They thought there was a problem with the black box but he confirmed driving daily at such speeds. A true F1 epicurean owner.
My favourite F1 story is when I came out of watching some racing at donington park in the 90s to find a brand spanking new F1 parked next to me in the car park. Made my day.
I had similar situation couple years ago, when I found McLaren 720s prototype (without badges and in camo, about 6 months before it was officially announced) parked up opposite to my fiesta in Dunsfold Aerodrome. Mental :D

Andrew Kay 5 production, 1 prototype. Prototype owned by mclaren, other two in USA. one is owned by Ralph Lauren, the other resides in Chicago I believe
One was here in NZ until very recently. It was sold and shipped to a private buyer in Australia.

@Andrew Kay: Didn't come good on the deal? Nonsense, the deal was that Lewis would receive F1 LM XP1 IF and only IF McLaren became F1 constructors champion in 2008. They did not win, so McLaren kept the car as per the deal.

A lot of cars have 'escaped'. I've driven two of them, a Porsche 993 Turbo in yellow and a Bentley Turbo R in Black. They came through the dealership where I worked, direct from Brunei.

There's a youtuber called "Alpha Guy" that did few videos on the Sultan of Brunei's car collection. Though interesting it was painfully frustrating to see all the amazing & rare cars they own either neglected & collecting dust or tackily modified to meet their garish bling tastes.
The ones in Sultans collections are pretty much trashed, engines would need rebuilding, heat has ruined panels. He loves to fuck things up.

@Ezequiel Ridolfi Nope, Compaq LTE 5280, not an Apple Mac. And supposedly they have an emulator nowadays but they were picking up old laptops on eBay for a while.

@@salmanshah9221 The laptop is part of the remote diagnostics that McLaren perform if the F1 equivalent of the check engine light pops on. The car has the modem (as I recall) and the laptop has the troubleshooting software. Assuming phone line access, McLaren can check things out ahead of telling the owner how bad it is.
Ezequiel Ridolfi I read that they have emulators but just in case they also carry around the old compaq pc’s just in case something goes wrong with the emulators

If heard story's of Porsche 959's with mold on them. Also the f1's that escaped from there years ago where already in a bad condition, I can't imagine what almost two decades more of sitting in the humid storage facility has done to the others.

It was never totalled!
Elon owned chassis #067. He crashed it around the year 2000 while uninsured and then had it repaired before finally selling it in 2007.
The car caught fire in the hands of the new owner and was repaired again. The article "A Mclaren F1s rise from the ashes" is about that car.

@@eddieru he's a dick, not a cool guy. he didn't found Tesla, he bought the title of founder when he bought the company. he bought it with his family's money, which came from an emerald mine stolen from South African people. he treats his workers horribly. everyone praises him for designing the cars but he doesn't help with it at all, just puts money into the company.
There is a video on YT of him telling the story of how he crashed it, when it wasn't insured.

The McLaren F1 is legendary. My most favorite car of all time since the NFS High Stakes and Hot Pursuit 2 days.
I've been waiting for this video for so long, such an amazing car and amazing storie for each one
Some greedy person bought 10 F1's and despite having enough money to have bought 10, was too cheap to have the one he crashed repaired, instead he used it as spares.
@ROB112 10 is just greed. And he had scavenge parts from one of them?
Well nobody else wanted to buy them, so he kind of did us a favour, that maybe one day they will come to light.
So has anybody done a video showing off his car collection? If so do any of the f1 get shown or mentioned? I too find it sad the guy didn't get the crashed one fixed and used it for spares. Makes ya wonder when the crash happened. Maybe before they went up for ridiculous amounts of $$? In any case they are extremely rare and somebody with this sorta money doesn't worry about repair costs. Sounds like he is so incredibly wealthy he could probably single handed put that car back into production just to for that car😀

I want to know where the remaining 2 F1 GTs are and in what condition. And also where the Clinic model is. These stories are very interesting!
The first (prototype) GT in metallic green was kept by McLaren; the third GT is still around, it went to japan originally but not sure who owns it now, it's spotted occasionaly though. If you Google 'McLaren F1 GT' - it's the two-tone grey and black one. The fatc that it went to Japan and was painted in that scheme makes me wonder if it was ordered by the Japanese Ueno Clinic guy....

Well i've got a story for you all
The missing Mexican F1, chassis #39
In the late 90s a McLaren F1 was secretly "imported" (the car never got registered) to Mexico by an infamous Cartel leader whose business operated in the state of Sinaloa, nothern Mexico. We know that the car was registered in the UK and the chassis is number 39, a 1/1 spec.
Here's where the story turns weird, the owner was supposedly killed in the early 2000's and before he died he hid the keys, after his passing no one knew where he'd left them.
After that, someone close to him reached McLaren and they refused to do something with the car's documentation after knowing who the owner actually was and quoted 200k for a new key that was never bought.
It is said the car is stored and guarded somewhere in the rural part of Sinaloa and hasn't been seen since 2004.
