The factory checked over the car's data feed and discovered that it had been hitting 200mph, every single day of the week!

Experimental Prototype IV (XP4) was sold to businessman Roger Bhatnagar in New Zealand. It featured in a magazine article not long after it arrived downunder but was not performance tested. The car was advertised for sale internationally around 2000 and was sold to a buyer in California. It turned up at Pebble Beach about 4 or 5 years ago. When the car was for sale in Auckland, NZ, it was on public display and I sunck into the centre seat for a few minutes while no one was looking. Just an awesome place to sit.
they're all so well known it'd be impossible to sell a stolen F1, unless you're a douchebag like the sultan of brunei and just keeps it locked up for all time.
I'm a massive car guy. I've been obsessed since I was a toddler, and I'm now 32. I truly don't understand people who buy cars and don't drive them. You don't have to drive them much, maybe a few hundred miles a year, or the occasional track day. Why you would buy the highest performance car and stuff it in a garage forever is beyond me. It's not like you've frozen time. The car still has to be serviced even if you don't drive it once. Weird things happen to cars that sit around and never get driven. Enjoy your car and drive it as much as possible. Trust me, when it comes to a performance car, the more you drive it the happier it'll make you.

In the late 90s a McLaren F1 was secretly "imported" (the car never got registered) to Mexico by an infamous Cartel leader whose business operated in the state of Sinaloa, nothern Mexico. We know that the car was registered in the UK and the chassis is number 39, a 1/1 spec.
Here's where the story turns weird, the owner was supposedly killed in the early 2000's and before he died he hid the keys, after his passing no one knew where he'd left them.
After that, someone close to him reached McLaren and they refused to do something with the car's documentation after knowing who the owner actually was and quoted 200k for a new key that was never bought.
It is said the car is stored and guarded somewhere in the rural part of Sinaloa and hasn't been seen since 2004.

Doug Demuro is screaming now
We need more stuff like this, with this guy's voice
Do you need me to beat your teeth in ?
chassis 009 just got destroyed in sydney Australia
Loving things like that ! What about the only McLaren F1 still immaculate in delivery condition ? The yellow one
Part 2 should include the one Elon Musk destroyed back in the day
ONE OF MY FAVOURITE CARS OF ALL TIMES. THANKS
Any video about curiosities surrounding the F1 is more than welcome
#09R It’s crazy to think that somewhere in a dark warehouse there’s a McLaren F1 sat in a corner gathering dust that’s never been driven.
There's a lost mclaren f1 in México 🇲🇽, Its chasis #39, and no one knows about where's the car
More F1 stories, doesn't matter which. In fact, do both!
Would absolutely love a part 2. This is my favorite car. Hands down
It would be awesome to see a video like this on the Brunei Car Collection, what’s known to still be there, what’s “escaped”, etc.
Great work with the info, and equally so with the animations!
Whatever you guys do, just keep making videos like this. Finish the F1 series in this style, and then go after other supercars. Absolutely love it!
You should do a part 2, 3 ,4... and a whole netflix series about McLaren F1’s
3:32 project Mx-5 YEAAAAHHH 👍👍👍👍

Nice detailing on the front rotors turning red hot when braking 👍
Definitely do a part 2. These cars are legendary and need their stories told to those who will never be able to afford such an incredible piece of art/machinery
Keep bringing such stories. They are the best.
Mexican F1 chassis #039 was allegedly owned by a drug lord until he was murdered, since then nobody knows what happen to the car
Wrong!
Mahin Rashid not at all :) th-cam.com/video/HVEKzBcgM34/w-d-xo.html

The F1 still haunts my dreams. I was not expecting a video on it, but now i've seen it, i'm gonna dream about F1 again !
Jay Leno's F1 is amazing too, i've enjoyed its review by Doug Demuro a few months ago.
I predict no one will ever surpass the Sultan of Brunei's collection of bespoke automobiles.
Gordon Murray's F1 one is unquestionably the epitome of supreme automotive excellence. The greatest car of 20th century .
Definitely a part 2!! George Harrison owned an F1 and I’d like to hear the full story of that / where it is now
“McLaren branded air”, don’t give them any ideas :P The enitre list is great :D

Spotted and loved that cost breakdown LOL

Did you know Rowan Atkinson has had his F1 for about 17 years😱
With 41,000 miles, probably the highest mileage McLaren ever
No. And I wish I still didnt know this useless information
@@throwout1483 Prototype XP5 is the highest-mileage one, with over 100,000 kilometres on the odometer
Daniel Matthews That’s a hell of a lot for a prototype

#39 is lost somewhere in Mexico.
the sultan of whatever story makes me so pissed off
like he buys millions of £ worth of supercars an never drives them but he DOES leave them to rot in garages for the rest of history
You're not the only one pissed at him
The last story was heartbreaking :(
@Zack Smith gay
yes. we need more parts
Who’s here after the enormous leak
Awesome video guys. Please do more of these backstory videos
I have seen McLaren f1 #014 it was in Connecticut a few years ago at line rock race way such a beautiful csr
Part 2 this was interesting project mx5 like if ur excited
Imagine if there was a heist movie to steal those brunei McLarens.
Not funny,i live in that country
they're all so well known it'd be impossible to sell a stolen F1, unless you're a douchebag like the sultan of brunei and just keeps it locked up for all time.
@@oldfrend The cars are are not rotting away, they are actully being driven sometimes, not everything to read is true...
Mahin Rashid where’s your proof their being driven and maintained? If you have proof I will have deep respect to the sultan of Brunei.
This was bloody brilliant. Keep them coming
Please give us a part two you should do this as a series it’s great
That last story is so sad, no car, no matter the value should be locked away in a garage and never move
Shmee needs to find his way into that garage
Who is narrating this? They're not credited.
Part 2 please. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the F1.
what a great video loved it. A part 2 is needed for #039 (mexico F1) , German banker F1 and..
I'd like to know where George Harrison's F1 is at these days.
Still with his family - www.carkeys.co.uk/news/the-beatles-cars-what-did-they-drive
Omg yes, yes, yes, PHIL WE MISSED YOU
So your telling me mr bean owned a f1
Would love to see a regular series of this with other cars as well like 250 GTO etc.. Part 2 please!
One of my favourite cars
VRRROOOOOOOMMMM
I own one of these
But in Roblox
Thank God you blurred the crushing of the F1
The best thing about a McLaren F1: wherever in the world you take it, you don't have to be arsed about what side of the road the country drives on, you can do anything with one
