    That 1916 SLQuarter is on my bucket list, but in that condition? I was stunned into silence! What a beautiful example of a way beyond rare coin!!

      In the same way, that people look for split bands on the mercury dime, I look for stars all the way around the shield he almost never find those even in uncirculated coins, many times and that one was perfect.
      Although they only made something like 50,000 of them, they were pretty fresh dues throughout

    Hey Ben, Thanks for sharing these coins with us - This is another "CAT'S MEOW" video - but that 1916 SLC is drop dead gorgeous - I don't see that well - but that coin looks nicer than a 65 and seems close to FH. hope I don't get banned for this - but is it possible that some coins come close but no cigar is because the submitter is not known to the grader? I still say from what others have said - that may be true. But, this is an extremely great of assortment of superb coins. Still I think that 1916 deserves a little more love. Best wishes and Thank you to all of Ben's customers that allowed us a pee at their great coins!!!!!

    Prepping for the SLC show next week. Looking at my inventory . .. that which has stickered and that which has not. Can't wait for the boys to come by the table and attempt to buy all the CAC coins I have for 10% 'back of bid'. Of course, the actual CACG slabs will need to be discounted to the SLC dealers who will be dissin' the "3rd party slabs". Of course, they will then be displayed at their tables for full CAC Guide money + 20% !!!!!

  • @Walkerazul
    @Walkerazul 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Good case study of just how tough it is to find nice, “original enough” early coins and key dates. 90 plus percent of coins from many early series have been messed with at least once during their lifetimes and key date coins were overly loved by early collectors and regularly cleaned.
    If CACG becomes the new market standard it’s going to be tough sledding for straight graded P or N coins that don’t make the cut.

  • @timber72
    @timber72 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    What is bizarre about the Mint is that they realized in 1913 that the "mound" on the Buffalo Nickel would wear out, and so they fixed it...but they failed to do the same thing on the obverse, and then "forgot" to do it on the SLQ until 1925.
    Very bizarre. It's like Morgan and Barber, at the very end of their careers, forgot how to design coins.

      It was James E. Fraser who designed the Buffalo Nickel, and Hermon A. MacNeil who designed the SLQ. Barber and Morgan had nothing to do with the designs or finished coins. Just a heads up.

  • @MarkB3h
    @MarkB3h 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Beautiful collection, thanks for sharing. Those early designs are iconic. Flowing hair and heraldic eagle. It's notable how, as you say, the market traditionally allowed straight grades for "shiny" coins, while CAC is holding the line on originality for those 1790s and 1800s. For older coppers, I see where CAC holds the line on verdigris, but it's less clear to me on surface quality. You pointed out porous copper coins, which are common for the era. I've seen pictures of some CAC stickered coppers that had such porosity, so I wonder where they draw the line.

    All the coin grading companies come up short with information. Even just a sentence would do. Surface on obv or rev was discolored (or whatever issue) and didn't cross. I'd be even better if they gave you a detailed report such as 1-10 on surface, strike and why it received that grade.

    You mentioned that you didn't know if they take Full Head into consideration when they sticker. For what it's worth I have a top pop 1 of 3 PCGS 1917 SLQ type 1 MS67 that did sticker. In '17 the non-Full Head is rarer than the FH.

    I love the early coins. It is unfortunate that coins of this quality are disrespected. The grading of the early coins seem to not take into account the way the early coins were minted. Applying quality standards of 20th Century coins to early American coins is in my view and error in grading philosophy. Lovely coins.
