This is the “Myth of CAC” - that it makes us more discerning collectors. When there is no explanation for a failed submission, how are we more educated?

Your honesty is very much admired. I wonder how many other dealers would just set these coins that did not CAC aside and sell them using the pitch line "they have not been to CAC yet".

Goodness that MS68 79-S is amazing! I can understand not stickering a coin with a fingerprint or a planchet flaw, but why on earth did that one not CAC. I'd be proud to have my name on that one.

  • @MakeNumismaticsGreatAgain
    @MakeNumismaticsGreatAgain ปีที่แล้ว +6

This is why I've always argued that CAC is simply a very expensive sticker company. As long as they don't give an explanation for their actions, it's a complete guessing game as to what they saw, liked, and disliked. CACG will be leagues more legit than CAC.

Some of those NGC MS67s are insane to me, no way would they get close to that grade from PCGS.

    Great show Ben.
Having been squirrelled away in bank vaults for decades until they were no longer needed for circulation, these coins are like NIFC's and really a lot more common than they otherwise would be. Equivalent European gold coins are selling mostly as bullion. It's only the huge American coin collecting community that gives them such insane values. I have purchased BU 1870's French 5 franc coins for a little over spot.

Man, some of those are just popping! I can see why you hand picked them, and expected good grades! That one CC had me drooling! And San Fran has some nicely struck Morgans, but those were exceptional! Agree the 1880/9 is under graded at 64. Keep showing beautiful coins, and what details grading services are looking for to get the high grades!

It isn’t crazy to spend more money to graded already graded coins. All of those coins are beautiful by the way. I might have been in a higher tax bracket at the end of life but I chose to be a teacher and I love very well-loved raw Morgan dollars. Thanks for sharing these Ben.

Very educational video, and quite a group of nice coins. Not surprised at all on the MS67 1883. Too distracting of a mark/fingerprint in the worst possible spot on the coin - right on the cheek. Love the look of that 85 DPL. Every time I thought you were done showing the DMPL/PL Morgans, you'd pull out another one. Wow.

  • @TheQuickSilver101

Oh my goodness. It's pretty rare that I wish I had $20,000 to just spend, but after seeing those Morgans I feel that way. Thank you for sharing those with us. I'm sorry you got burned on some of them, btw. You should have had more green beans!

Now that they're a competing grading service, it no longer serves their business interests to sticker an NGC or PCGS graded coin. Why would they endorse their competition?

  • @stephendinan5622

I think the problem with recent CAC submissions is that they were being deluged by submissions and by default tons of coins were being stickered and now that they have started charging for each it was a way of keeping the CAC numbers from flooding the market. Is the premium worth it if there are thousands of other perspectives out there is what people would start to wonder. Also I think that the start up of CAC grading is pulling a lot of the resources and probably key graders.

  • @StunningCoinage787

The only issue I have is when dealers people start charging as they say a premium for coins over there graded value you are creating a false Market for the coin because if that coin ever in back into market place again that customer will lose a lot does not make sense

I’ll say the ‘88-O is the most well struck 88-0 I’ve seen. The reverse had a bit more chatter than I’d like for a six. Obverse was stunning but I think the reverse held that one back from the green bean. In my opinion.

Hey Ben, I understand spending money to get coins certified. I do it myself, but the grade on the coin would hold its value and is believable because of what NGC and PCGS already certified the coin to be. Why have it re-verified? The coins already been verified as genuine and given a grade for a price guide. That is a racket and if you feel it's beneficial to the coin, then I guess it's valid. Is it really necessary though? So if CAC doesn't give you the green bean, then does that mean the coin is not really the grade the two top tier grading companies certified? I should make a blue bean and charge to say "yes I confirm PCGS and NGC".

Again, a few words of explanation by the grading companies would be so nice. Not only would it put the customers a bit more at ease about the received grade but also greatly increase the customer's knowledge about how the grading companies operate. It couldn't take more than a few seconds to add those words.

  • @rdoubled1384

For the 1893-P, I think the gashes on Liberty's face are just a little too severe to get the sticker. I agree though, the 1893-P I think is undervalued at the moment.

1883 ms67 I cant believe that got a 67 with that face all sliced up. I have a ms66+ thats way better. The face on that 67 has slice after slice. Its amazing to me I just would never. I mean the fields are beautiful but to me the device is more important than fields. I can see overall you go after the fields. Just a observation but I have never seen a morgan with that many cuts on the face go 67.

The 79s in ms68 was a 66+ imo and no way would Cac. The 93p is an awesome date n grade but looks like an average 63 to me. Keep in mind it’s not necessarily so much that it’s solid for the grade but above the average example in said grade. However you wanna phrase it but yes needs to be above the baseline examples.
I’m glad you’re doing this Ben although I know you’ve been reluctant. It will expand your eye as it has mine
