- Established in 1900, E Pellicci - a charming, family-owned Italian restaurant in London’s East End - has seen off two World Wars, a global pandemic, and 125 years of flux in the city’s most chaotic neighborhood. We paid a visit to meet its current custodian Nevio Pellicci and the rest of his clan, who served us up some delicious Italian cuisine and an eyebrow-raising lesson in the art of staying alive when all around you eateries are going to the wall. From their famous full English breakfast to authentic cannelloni, there are plenty of reasons people have been going back to E Pellicci for generations.

I love to hear fluent Italian finishing with innit.
È abit umido qui innit? 😊
The word ‘innit’ is part of an urban London dialect amongst the working classes, particularly immigrants, of the late 20th century.
I'm from Essex bruv
haha quality
n all !
One thing not mentioned is the incredible class and memory of this wonderful man’s father. My own father used to have breakfast here in the ‘70s when he was starting out in the East End. Thirty years later, after moving away, he brought his two sons to relive the old days. This man’s dad dutifully took my and my brother’s orders but skipped my dad. After he left the table, my dad asked if he could order as well. The man simply replied, “I assumed you would have the usual,” remembering my dad’s order after nearly 30 years. It was an amazing thing to witness and taught me so much about how food is so much more than just the items on your plate. It remains the most memorable breakfast I have ever had.
Amazing story mate. Thanks for sharing
Great memory. Long live the local places
Bro that seemed like a story from the moving.
Amazing story.
Amazing story!
brilliant story, made me cry!
This place is incredible - sometimes I come in after a night shift, get sat with a regular, have a chat and enjoy the show. Nev talks to everyone that comes through the door. He is the real deal
The most insane combination of accent here
They only missing a Nigerian to make it complete
If Ronnie O'Sullivan finally dealt with his demons and relaxed a bit!
My mother/aunts speak Italian with a yorkshire accent, cracks me up.
called code switching!
@@Billinousno thanks
Italian with innit at the end sound freaking amazing
The banter is elevated with the Italian sass
I felt warm from just watching....it is special because it is authentic and the warmth is not due to ill intentions, a hidden agenda or making money but just pure and genuine Mediterranian warmth. I have never seen an east ender who speaks Italian and switches so fluently between cockney and Italian accents with such ease despite their very different intonations and sounds.
This place is a real London GEM. i eat here every time im in London and love talking to Nev.
He says that he remembers you but i mean i vist like every 2 years, so he cant can he? love the family and the place.
Na he doesn't remember you he's just being polite
@@yamyam3407 yeah no i get that, but bless him he gives it a go anyway.
@@ardalain From the story above his Dad would
He has such a cockney accent and then when he mentions Italian food he goes into full 🇮🇹🤌
yeaah it's like he got two different personalities at once lmao xD
its all put on
@@paulmcdonough1093What are you on about? It’s put on that his Italian is good?
any vid I've seen on this cafe shows the most joyful family ever doing what they love at break-neck speed all while making every patron feel like their best friend. Dozens of my ancestors grew up in Bethnal and I'm sure they've all loved visiting. Never change!
Went here when I was travelling around Europe/Uk from Australia. Felt like I was a part of the family. Besides the amazing breakfast. This place had everything you need. Truly is a gem in the English hospitality scene. BOSH INNIT !!!
Had the absolute pleasure of going there yesterday after watching this video a couple of months ago in Australia. Took my daughter and son in law there for brunch. Had to wait in line for half an hour but was worth it. It is a fun capped madhouse. Met Nevio and Anna. It was truly a wonderful experience. Loved it. Thanks Nevio!
I must visit. The Italians have done so much in the Restaurant trade throughout the world. I love that you keep your Mum involved in the business. My Mum was involved in the Family Pub & Shop business and had to retire early with health problems. She missed the interaction with the customers and the everyday hustle & bustle, many were her friends too.
What a glorious, beautiful cafe - I enjoyed a full breakfast there in 2018. Sitting alone, chatting with Nev and Anna. Nev shouting from the kitchen through to a neighbourhood guy on the sidewalk. One of my favourite meals ever, I cherish the memory.
This place to me is what London is all about. Popped in one day for a quick bite (no tables free of course) and Tony knocked me up a lovely ham & tomato molto pronto and sent me on my way for 4 quid including a tea... I don't know of any other places like this left but they were everywhere at one time. Lunga vita Pellicci's...Innit!?
I love this place. Family and I went to London in February and had breakfast here one day. Amazing Full English, and the cannelloni that my son ordered was some of the best I've ever had.
This is what we all need and miss: family businesses!
Places like this are going extinct slowly but surely. You can either have this or international finance capitalism, but you can't have both.
well stop going to Starbucks
@@I-do-not-read-repliesNot really Starbucks’ fault. Commercial leases nowadays are getting so pricey that new businesses are struggling to stay afloat. Eventually, once those small businesses close shop, and the big companies take over since they can actually afford the rent.
Obviously it’s a generalized take, but it goes to show that there’s some nuance to this whole kerfuffle .
soon to be a thing of the past, due to late stage capitalism.
@@etherealg3940 well put. Simple as that.
I used to live around the corner from them. Love it there, a true, authentic place full of love. Nothing too fancy, just authenticity in a fast changing neighbourhood…
Love these type of old school cafes serving proper food...many modern cafes focusing more on how the food looks than taste
Moved to Lewisham/Deptford in 1976 and discovered the joys of caff breakfasts and also pie and mash shops. Ate a few times here and loved it. Now living in a care home in Reading and use a small mobility scooter to get out. A trip to your restaurant would be a great tonic soon
Good luck to you Roy.
I’ve been coming here over the years since I was a kid with my Dad. I’m 54 now and remember young Nev and Anna as kids the same as me when Nev senior was in charge. I’ve now taken my own kids in for the experience. Great place, food and atmosphere.
My Grandad took me here when me and me brother were nippers. It was our holiday treat. Week with nan and grandad meant a posh breakfast, with a lovely hot chocolate and if we were lucky the guvnor would give us an Italian biscuit or a bit of cake. As we grew up we helped my old man on his bread run. Bit of pocket money and a bacon sarnie in the cafe. The old boy was good as gold. Always saying hello. Made you feel all grown up. As soon as my boy could sit up I took him in for his go. Cuppa and some brecky. We’ve all moved away now. Family is all over the shop. But I still pop in if I’m in the smoke. But it’s a rare treat now. Watching this brought it all back. I hope this gaff never closes. It’s a piece of history. Lovely people. Lovely scran. Salt of the earth.
God bless em all. I could murder a full English now. Look at that fried bread! I’d have the lot and see if he could rustle up a bit of bubble as well.
Take it easy.
This place is quite something. I have seen a few episodes highlighting this locations Full English Breakfast. Looks delicious to boot! Thank you for sharing this one!
They're just very good at pr, the food isn't anything special
Mama's food never measure by grams but by love. The final result? Always amazing. God bless you man.
You guys really should try and do Di Lietos on Fleet Street on the Strand in London next. Family run, homemade sandwich shop that starts sharp at 6 and is active till 3 PM, creating the best sandwiches in the city. They’ve been around for over a century as well and I’ve stood in line for over 45 minutes at times to get a sandwich during the office rush hour. The sandwiches are heavenly, the best I’ve probably had in London, absolutely freshly made along with the freshest of cheeses and toppings. Never miss having them whenever I’m in London
I used to take the kids here on a saturday morning. The kids would love it. Dan would always be chatting away to them and making everyone feel special ❤
Cafes like this prosper because they serve excellent food at affordable prices in a good atmosphere
"Third Spaces" as they've been called as of recent, it seems...
BUT THEY ARENT ENGLISH
The prices are nowhere near affordable. It's a tourist trap cause the Crays frequented it, so they can honestly charge whatever they like.
Its quality stuff but you're paying airport prices.
@@DeathCrunchthey are entitled to make a comfortable living. Long as the quality is not compromised
@@MarkL-we8uk They serve tea and toast not Michellen star gear. Next you'll tell me amazon deserve not to pay tax because they provied an essential service.
this place has been featured on sorted food and jolly as well through sorted food, it seems like a very authentic place you go back to.
Came here to say one of Jolly's best episodes, so funny, friendly and food looked great too. Glad to see nothings changed since then.
This place rips. We all need more local spots like this.
It's just because it's London tbh. Theres such population density loads of basic food businesses get by. Would go out of business in 5 minutes anywhere else; this guy would be peddling his inane patter down the bankruptcy courts.
Theres probably one just around the corner
@@sammyb1651 lol absolutely not - every big city has those.
@@yikes6263 Nah. It's a London thing.
@@sammyb1651 believe me, I lived in New York, Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia and all those have places like this.
Solid home cooking. It may not always look good or be good for you, but it all tastes good.
This place is amazing, went there this year, worth the travel. But came EARLY as you can see is full all the time.
My grandfather name was Pellicci and he came to the US around 1900. I will definitely stop by here when in London. They is a Pellicci Italian restaurant in Stamford Connecticut that has been they for over 60 years.
Stopped by on a spur of the moment trip to London in 2018 thanks to a recommendation off the internet. They were exactly how they are in this video. Happy to see them doing well. And yes, the breakfast was exactly what you need. Wish I’d been able to try the Italian dishes.
When it comes to food the Italians are purely amazing and now how to do simple dishes at their very best.Pure quality.
Shhhh..nonna gave us some bread pudding as we left…protect this place and the wonderful people inside! ✨
One of THE best cafes and communities in the whole of London!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Family are From Bethnal Green I’m from Ireland I’ve been in that cafe a lot of times over the Years the carpentery work in it is Fantastic along with the food,
I love the art deco woodwork! That’s part of DNA of this place as well as the family lineage, just two things amongst many that make the place what it is.
This video made me feel good. Man would I like a good English breakfast.
I'm here for the accent ❤
The world needs more places like Pellicci's!
You're absolutely right ✅️ need one in my country India 🇮🇳 😂
I’ve known this café since I was born. Your mum will probably remember my father and uncle, Charlie and Ronnie Richardson. They would be so pleased the way you’re carrying on the family traditions.
vouch for this place, been there a few times and has always been amazing, food, atmosphere, everything!
Had a full english here when I visited London a few years ago. Probably the friendliest people in London working there. Would definitely go again.
What a character ! Every food reviewer who's been there has given them 5 stars. This is what a success story looks like - quality food, gregarious host, contented customers. Simple recipe, but how many people get it wrong ? Many thanks for the video. New subscriber !
They are the most beautiful amazing people ever mummy Nev Anna and Tony we love you …. Love Joffa xxxxxx
E. Pellicci is a proper London cafe (pronounced like calf not caf-ay) and real institution. Friend of mine was there last year for the Veggie Have The Lot and a chat w/ Nevio, who is just as awesome as he is here!
He literally pronounced it Caf-ay! 😂😂You're 'avin a bubble mate!
i think it may be caff
what u r pronouncing is the lower part of the legs main muscle a calf
What an amazing heritage, I love to hear those kinds of stories, support local business!
This cafe must be very famous internationally. I’ve seen vlogs on TH-cam in other languages by foreign tourists about it and how they enjoyed the experiences here !
Was back in London and still didn’t make it here. It’s now number 1 on my list - especially as an Italian American this has such a famiglia feel
I Loved this amazing walk through time with you, heartfelt and sincere narrating of the cafe. Not surprised, at all, that it is busy. Nona, looks amazing, so Thankyou.
Went here when I was last in London. Luckily was there early on as by the time I was leaving the queue was right down the road. Since I was there solo I was sat on a table with some regulars and the community atmosphere was a great as the food
I remember your dad from my school days in the 70s St Bernard’s school..
Lunch time Double chip bean two slices and a Raspberry drink fantastic days…
So nice to see delicius cooking from diffrent countrys here I live in europa must say bravo bravo Bravissimo ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
We need more places like this, this is the lifeblood of local communities
Great place and the family are beautiful.... A very unique cockney/Italian warmth. Love it.... And Anna is particularly wonderful!
It's always a joy to find an "authentic" restaurant where food is made on the premises with love going into every dish. Nevio is exactly as he appears in this video and the place is always packed; surprisingly there were a few Chinese diners.
Pellici's is a 20-minute walk from Whitechapel on the Elizabeth Line. A note of caution, Pellici's is CASH ONLY, at least when I went there in 2022. I sat at that table @ 3:31 with a couple of "blokes". Divertimento per tutta la famiglia!
next after seeing this i booked a flight to london city airport hoping to be pleased in this place with cockney talks and italian dishes. ok: only joking, but… the most i like is the italian folks to keep on their adorable tradition and on their roots of italy even when grandma or grandpa left or they are kicked off in the european football contest. i love italy (even with meloni)!
I used to go there as a student nurse in the 70s, great after a run of night shift!
I was there last year and its popular but it wasn't super busy when I got there and while I like eating alone it was actually lovely going in talking to people there and staff was genuinely awesome......and if you like a good breakfast the place hits the spot. Really recommend a trip to it if you can while in London.
I recall this place from an older Sorted vid! Love that they're getting more attention! :D
I went here 10 years ago for one of their fry ups. Great portion size, great price, great people. If I didnt live on the other side of the city I'd be there all the time!
Makes me proud that we have people like this on our earth. Brilliant interesting pepole.
East London institution! Always a great hang
Old school caf making it big in their own little way. Bootiful
You see what matters in life for great success and happiness? A good family, love and dedication.
Until 2002-2003 my dad owned the butchers called AL Knight that used to be next to Pellicci’s, good to see that after all years Nevio & Co haven’t changed one bit
Thank you for sharing your beautiful calm cute family run restaurant. The food looks really good!!😊❤
I could sit and banter with this guy all day and the food looks lovely.
Omg!!! I always comeback here and wait on the queue every single time with my partner and let me tell you, the most worth it queue you can do. I love everything about e pellici. Will comeback again this summer!
Wow amazing! Love ❤️ 😍 your place, looks great breakfast 😋, Im coming over when next in London 😅 cheers 🍻 from Australia ❤ 😊
what a character!!! hahaha Support family bussinesses people!!!
Having grown up in Soho, Bar Bruno is still my favourite (2nd would be the long gone New Piccadilly). But Pellicci is the undisputed don of the East End. Love to see it still thriving.
Ain't been in for a few years, but great cafe with great atmosphere. Used to love Nev senior proper old school, with his little pencil moustache and rolled up sleeves. RIP Nev.
What an awesome family! They make the place!
This is a business that needs protecting!
I’m coming down for a full English with a side of cannelloni on top of it. That sounds like heaven to me. I ain’t playing neither
omg I've been here before!! It was great! Nevio is exactly as fun and inviting as he seems. Food was great too!
Used to always go here when we are in the smoke. Over the last few years word ( and the Legend film) has got out though, and its full of tourists and very busy.
I absolutely LOVE this place. I usually stay in Bethnal Green when I visit London and this is my absolute spot for breakfast.
That’s the best of Italian food culture. They teach us how to live a life of simple appreciation. Even when they copy our « food »
Great post, more please. These people are what makes hospo worth it. ❤
Great video - I miss Munchies content like this.
I would love to learn more about the food while learning the history of this nice cafe
As An English Italian myself I can say this place is AMAZING
such a good video! had me hooked all the way to the end!!
Charming place. The best food is always cooked by a family run business full of big personalities like this
This is crazy there’s an Italian Restaurant in Stamford, CT USA called Peliccis, and your family looks a lot like the family that owns and operates the restaurant in the states! Very coincidental!
Forget it, innit is my new favorite mashup
Danke schön für das Video! 🇩🇪
I’ve seen this eatery featured many times and they’re awesome.
Sparks nostalgia💖
Italian with Innit at the end is exotic af
there’s no other better food than „soulfood“ the one that made wholeheartedly and instinctively as their „spice“. ❤
Can confirm this place this great! Top 3 cafes in London
The best comments on TH-cam for this video. It says alot for Pellecci
Keeping that family history a live.
A live what?
I’ve heard great things about the breakfasts at this cafe.. I will have to pop into Bethnal Green next time I’m working in the East End..hopefully I’ll they’ll be about to sort out a lovely vegan full breakfast 😊
I went before watching this vid and he is exactly as shown here. What a friendly guy!
Absolutely amazing, love it!
Me wife and I are going on holiday to London in late September I'll have to look this place up.
