I never thought I would be a dog owner until a tiny and very beautiful soul dog entered my life, thanks to my daughter, her name was BB... A tiny 10 lb Papillon. She won me over and we had a great 16 years together. I love her and miss her so much, Smart does not even begin to describe who she really was. We were true friends.
That's such a sweet time with both of you 💜
I had a Papillion I got from the local animal rescue. She was the sweetest dog I ever had. She died in 2018 and I still miss her so much. I’m not sure I could ever find a dog like her again.
I have always had a dog or 2 and I have had several different breeds of cats and dogs. They were all blessings to my life and gifts from God. You need another dog in your life to love. They all will love you back, but please do not wait. You are special and there is one for you and you for them.
The Rottweiler, Doberman and German Shepherd dogs are my top 3 dog breeds. Just in intelligence alone these dogs excel in most daily task and with outstanding athleticism and looks, for me I'm totally sold ❤🤩
My Australian cattle dog/boxer mix is too smart for his own good at my expense. I never imagined that a dog would be able to outsmart me but here we are.
You raise an important caveat--mixed breeds are often the most intelligent. In fact, that's one reason some people avoid them--they're too smart for their own good (or for their owners). The smartest dog I ever "owned" was a border collie/semoyed mix.
Jack Russell? super smart !
Yep
Too compulsive to be smart.
Have owned 2 JRTs one was a long leg parsons and he lived for 13 years but passed, I have a short legged one now, to me they are one of the smartest but mischievous but that's apart of their trait. I love all dogs ❤ 🐕 😊
My Miniature Schnauzer is the cleverest dog I have ever owned. She is crafty and intelligent, sometimes she amazes me 🥰
where is the Australian Sherpherd? mine was super smart ...knowing all of his toys by name, although i never really trained to know - and he put them back when grapping a new toy
Aussies are incredibly smart. Inclined w border collies in my opinion and I've been training dogs for 30 years..
@@user-lo6xq1iv1n Wow 30 years..So, can you share more experiences in training smart dogs for everyone? 😄
They're so wrong for the omission! ❤😊
@@doilyheadI’m sure he name them.
Flawed list, no Aussie Shepherd.
I have always been very fond of dogs. Growing up, I had many dog friends although my parents would never let me own one. It wasn't until I was in my late 30s that I was settled enough to feel able to get a dog. I went to a shelter, and got a dog that they said was a"mixed breed". I spent days researching what she might be. She almost never barked, only to give alarm. She "talked." She made vocalizations, and, as the years passed actually learned so say understandable, "OW" (for "out") standing by the door when she wanted to go out, or "OR" (for "more) standing by her bowl when she wanted more dinner. Eventually I found that someone in a nearby city was breeding Australian dingoes. Everything matched, her size, her body, her four white feet. She must have been a dingo. She was BY FAR the smartest dog I have ever known. When I got her she was about a year old. For sixteen years she was my very best friend and companion. I still miss her to this day. I have other dogs and love them dearly, and one is very smart, and also tries to talk, but none are as smart as my first, my dingo.
I have an Australian cattle dog mix. They were bred with dingos. I never imagined a dog could be this smart.
People who love cats & dogs are very special people.
I had a super smart dingo mix years ago
Belgium Malinois are freakishly smart, agile, active….. I may obviously be biased 😜😜😜😜
Doberman Pinschers are considered to be one of the most intelligent dog breeds. They are known for their eagerness to learn and please their owners, and they perform well on objective tests that measure working and obedience intelligence. Dobermans can learn new commands after only five repetitions, compared to the average dog's 25-40 repetitions. They also respond well to positive reinforcement training methods.
The Border Collies are extremely smart!
I love black Labs.
All dogs are smart and beatiful😊❤
Oh so many cute doggies! I want all of them!
🐶want you too❤
I had a white GSD mix, and we could never figure out id he was oh-so-smart or dmb as a sack full of hammers.
We finally realized he was so smart that he knew how to play dumb. He had a winning disposition and was friendly to everybody except my best friend at the time, and his family.
I have had four Norwegian Elkhounds through the years, and these dogs are incredibly intelligent.
We had one that managed to scratch a hot spot in the middle of her bach, between her shoulder blades. She couldn't have reached that location with any paw or teeth, and it was a puzzle... until I washed her bedding. She had stacked her chew-bones under her blanket and rolled on them to scratch her itch. This means. in effect, that that dog had made a tool for a specific purpose.
Another Elkhound would carry her food dish from her feeding location to the dining room to eat with the people.
Yet another would, when she thought it was too hot inside, bark at the thermostat.
The boy I have now, I'd say he's prettysmart. When the sign says _WET FLOOR,_ he does.
BTW, How many border collies does it take to change a light bulb?
One, "And while I was at it I brought that substandard wiring up to code."
Thanks for sharing this amazing stories 💚
Border collie, Autralian Shepherd, Malinois, GSD, Pitbull Terrier, & Golden Retriever..not necessarly in that order
Nope. You forgot the poodle. My last dog was a standard and she was super smart. And protective. I was not home once when UPS knocked on my patio door, he told me later he thought she was coming through the glass.
❤@@nancyrea3863
Loves dem doggies!!! No one...I repeat: NO ONE!!...will ever love you as purely and totally as your dog! 😎
One of the problems with the GSD is that if you get one it owns you.
Absolutely right.
Gsd are most loveable pets they completely captivate you with thier lovely intelligence
The pitbull is not on the list? They are very intelligent. I should know I've owned 2 of them. And the pitador aka lab pit mix should be on the list. I have 1 and she amazes me. The things she'll do on her own. She can open and shut doors for Pete's sakes. My pit bull understood english very well. If I told him he was laying in the wrong spot he'd get up and move. Not only that he was a awsome babysitter
I have owned dogs for 28 years! My current dog is not a recognized pure breed…a Golden Doodle and he is one very smart pup! A cross of the poodle and golden retriever two of the smartest breeds and obviously, his intelligence is genetic!
I had the pleasure of owning, at 1 point, a Doberman Pincher. Smartest dog I have ever been exposed to. That is saying something as I have been a dog owner for 47 years.
Several of these breeds, I never heard of! And, I’m a 73 YO dog lover! Are they really rare, or simply rare in the USA? I've had pure breeds and mixed breeds. But, once I rescued a German Shepherds, I stayed with the breed for over 35 years. My brother chose Rotti’s as his favorites. They got along great with my Shepherds. I now have a Cavachon rescue, and he surprises me with his intelligence! He stopped burying his treats in the dirt of the back yard, and started burying them in my bed! He uses his nose to push blankets, sheets, and anything nearby to bury them. No more dirty snout and dirt in his treats. To me that says SMART dog! Maybe he's a Cavapoo? But, Shepherds will always be my favorite breed. I adore them! BTW, most of MY Shepherds were 110 lb giants! I often wonder why they always put their size down as a smaller dog, as in this video. And they all lived to 12 years.
We think the black labs are loving and supportive
My terv was so smart. He kinda read your mind once you let any emotion show. Sweet loved kids, was great with other dogs, loyal, active and happy. He was amazing and a ton of work keeping up with his coat. I’d shave him early spring so by winter he had his coat back. Never shave the tail ever. He loved his summer cut and was always happy to be able to lay in his kiddie pool. He was so easy to train. Great in the car. Watch dog at home but once you were welcome in, he was a lap dog. 115 pounds of couch potato at times.
my POMERANIAN speaks German and Polish fluently !!
Love ❤speaks German and Polish fluently
Where is the Weimaraner?
#18🤭
My friends had cattle dogs. They were nippers and you didn’t dare enter the yard or house unless owners were home even if they knew you. So hyper too.
I have one. I have 0 doubt he'd give his life to protect me. Too darn smart and doesn't like toddlers though. He wants to herd them. He's a good boy if you exercise him but if he gets bored oh my.
Blue Heelers!! My dog is half German Shepherd and half Blue Heeler.
This have dual meaning " With out dogs, this program would not happens"
Totally untrue.
Check out Vizsla and Puli
Border collies are very smart and they learn fast
I like that this list is mixed up a little from the normal. The smart breeds that have been omitted from this list, are closely related to breeds that were mentioned.
So, Honourable mentions:
Australian Kelpie
Australian sheepdog
Malinois
Rottweiler
Regular & Giant Schnauzers
Labrador Retriever
We are on our second pitty, this dog is scary smart, human like,a simple, suttle, hand motion is understood even at a great distance
I just lost my best friend Jax's he was a male Visla amazing loving dog 🐕 looking to get a Doberman what do you guys think?
Dobermans are excellent at guarding you and your property. However, they are hard to train and are aggressive towards strangers. Be sure to be careful around people the pup has never seen before, as it can attack. If you be careful around the pup, you should be alright.
Try a Rottweiler, easy to train and a good judge of people!
Poodles are sensitive and need lots of human attention and exercise. They love jobs and things to do. Puzzles, tricks, games and yes lots and lots of grooming and brushing. Prone to ear infection and standards get bloat and should have gastopexy done before they suffer stomach surgeries. Grooming can be expensive. And matting is terrible painful for the dogs.
My last dog was a standard poodle and she was smart, funny and protective.
Why is it I've never met a smart poodle?
We have English springers. Does not surprise me to be on list
What about the Belgian Mallinois??
Before they started the countdown, it was mentioned that the group being considered when the rankins were made years ago had NOT included yhe Belgian Malinois ...but if the analysys were done today that breed woild undoubtedly rank high
My New Zealand heading dog is smarter than I am and I can trust him 100%.
Shelties are often skittish and timid. Almost every sheltie I groomed or trained was so timid and scared it really made it hard to train them. Dislike strangers and noise.
In my lifetime I had 3 shelties all of them very smart, very loving family dogs they love challenges they are working dogs, need a lot of human interaction. Just love them! Two of them live to be 11 1/2 years and the 3rd one 17years
I.also.had.a.papillon.who.lived.to.be16was.a.rescue.she.was.2months.when.i.got.her.miss.her.so.much.we.were.very.close.i.know.how.you.feel.love.them.while.you.can.because.they.love.you.😢❤
Where is the Belgian Malinois in this list??
My Spring Spaniel was very much loved, but not always the smartest dog! Eager to please … himself. Me, not so much!
I had two dogs brother and sister from the same litter.
He was a genius, and she was dumb except when food was involved. Then and only then would she act smart and find a way to get it.
Hmm...the Malinois??😮
Yes. I didn’t see this breed unless he included them with the Shepard and I didn’t notice. If not someone messed up because the Malinois is highly intelligent.
This I don't get, many pictures of Siberian Huskies before the list but not on the list. I therefor proclaim this list as totally deficient!

Daschunds are extremely intelligent.
As usual, intelligence is defined by trainability. I beg to differ.
The Belgian Malinois should have ranked #1..
Belgains are smarter and have more common sense than most humans..
There minds are so sharp and they learn like no other breed..
I am retired law enforcement and have been around the breed for 35 years. I own 3 female Malinois's and they are amazing!!
I love rotties
Dachshunds are really smart
no terriers?
Working hard is a sign of intelligence? I guess I'm not as smart as I thought.
3:19 CASEhond
My folks had one and we called him a Cheesehond for fun
No. 16: Collie. I'm quite sure most of the pictures is not Collies but Shetland Sheepdogs. No. 11: Pembroke Welsh Corgi, I think the correct name is Welsh Corgi Pembroke. Just like the Welsh Corgi Cardigan.
I do believe that 16 is called a rough collie
I just looked up Coren's list and Bloodhound is ranked 74th. I have to disagree with that.
15.) pronounced: skip-per-key.
SHEPHERDS ALL DAY
You missed the best Dig the Doberman. Why?
You personally do not like them?
I think you haven't seen the full video yet, watch it ❤
Number 5
Dobies are awesome!! Sadly, they are susceptible to a loss of fluid in their skull that can become apparent after 8-12 years of age that can create aggressive behavior.. just as German Shepards are susceptible to hip dysplasia.
Sad, but at that point you need to be the "adult in the room".. humanely.
Be Well! 🤗😃
Another Doberman lover here. I have only had three but between the three of them, it spanned over thirty years.
Was the 5th.
With all due respect, but the best and smarters are BELGIUM MALINOIS. That's why they are preffered by the NAVY SEALS. I OUGHT TO KNOW, I OWN TWO BELGIAN MALINOIS. THEY ARE SMART, ALERT, VERY AGILE AND ATHLETIC AND LOYAL.
Poodles I've known are dumb.
The smartest and best dogs are not breeded! They are simple street dogs - adopt a street dog - don't buy a bred dog!!!!!!!!!!!
Righto ! Cuz of DNA. Not close, so no chance of inbreeding.
No thanks
Eke uke dog Precisely, are the most intelligent of them all..,
Mutts are good for those that just want a companion.
For those that have a job to do for their dogs, a mutt is not fair to the dog.
The mutt cannot do the job of our Livestock Guardian Dogs. They will just not do the job, and are physically not able to do it.
Need a close personal protector. The mutt will not do the job, and not physically capable.
Need a ratter for the farm, same issue.
Need a retriever, and scent dog. Same!
i had both german shepards and dobermans for years nether of those were smarter then the rottwielers i had not even close my rotties were smarter then most of my friends never mind other dogs lol
I was in Veterinary school and often bought my 3 Rottweilers and I Harlequin Great Dane...one of my anatomy professors told me that we had more dogs in the class than students and I " said these dogs are smarter than some of your students"...he didn't argue that point!
