The map is disgusting to begin with. Thin strip of green in the middle, lots of desert in the south, snow in the north. Should have rerolled.
Yeah I agree. Probably would have rerolled if I got forward settled in this one.
Dunno how starting conditions were. But might have worked with settling very agressively towards the south + taking over the city states.

And yeah as others have said it has probably deliberately been played badly. The lack of science and gold seems so suspect. That or maybe it's someone who is new to civ but knows the channel just jumping in on deity, seeing how far they could get, then sending the hospital pass to Potato.

If you click it that way, does it always choose the same path? I don't have Civ 6 installed right now.
I don’t think it’s gonna be fun. You won’t have different government types or lots of bonus for cultural game. That will set you into a either domination or science victory. But if you get lucky you get the techs for upgrading your army, if not then it is auto loose.

Before I started watching your Deity tutorials I was hopeless at Deity, and regularly got slaughtered. My best level until then was Emperor, and I was able to win every time at that level but Deity was quite simply beyond me. Now I have 5 Deity wins in my Hall Of Fame, and it is all down to your efforts.

You can move the file to the multiplayer folder and recover the original seeds. Then create the game using the same settings & seeds to get turn 1 again.

Same, I always figured I'd get destroyed on Deity but after seeing some of these disaster saves I've been able to win a few games on it relatively smoothly. Seems like if you get through the early game intact it's business as usual.
Watching you slowly descent into madness and just curse this save is amazing.

You talked a bit about city placement. Maybe you could do a video about that? My placement is pretty decent, but I feel like it's one of the things that's keeping me from being able to really jump from immortal to deity. In particular, could you talk about when to settle close and when to settle further out then backfill later?

When you were talking about placing cities in this video I understood what you were saying however when you said you would have maybe placed the city between Kish and Toronto I thought that I would never have settled there. OK you said it would be trash and only for defence but at what point do you make that call?
The thing I really struggle with when placing cities is:
Trying to place to cover as many resources as possible
While also having good workable tiles for food & production
While also thinking about district adjacency bonus with tiles and other cities.
Also to come back to what you said toward the end of this video you seemed to say that settling the min number of tiles away is like a rule where as I often move cities further away to get good stuff before coming back for areas nearer my capital.
If you want I can send saves or screenshots to illustrate my points/questions.

When you started the "Civ6 disasters" series, you should have known you were basically giving an invitation to be trolled by people who will fail on purpose, and I suspect more and more this is what happens. Other option is beginners being way over their head and playing deity difficulty right after their first win on prince.
But if you can (somehow) manage to cope with sharing those trolls, those videos end up giving a lot of nice advice, because you talk about things that never come up in your own games.
well it's quite fun watching people troll him though. The best part is when the person who is being trolled triumphant.
Yeah, I've been trying to go up 1 difficulty level for every 1 or 2 games. Right now I'm on King, and it's going well.
I mean,I won a prince game,then went straight for deity and after 2-3 tries I won and now just play diety.

I wish I still had my first Deity attempt, militarily was similar to this... my cross bow's bouncing off American (who declared on me 3 times) Rough Rider Corps and Eleanor forward settling me like mad.

7:25 Moves crossbow back off Citrus Grove and shoots. Bad move there! Even if the “Pipe” and shot attacks and woulda your crossbow man, you can pillage that health right back. Meanwhile depriving a city of a luxury. Moving off reduced the loss of loyalty and gave them back an amenity. You merely helped Dido on that move.
As for the assessment that it was poor settling efficiency. Spot on! Hard to say what this guy had in mind.

Tbh this seems very close to my very first game. I was just building farms, mines, fisheries etc for +1 resources. I still find all the districts confusing with all their different combinations of effects. Probably someone's second game ever, not a troll.

i like these a lot. theyre pretty entertaining for one and a great way to learn the various tactics and strategies. like i really like tall cities and these videos have convinced me to really try wide and it is fun. though i play on much easier modes

It took me hundreds of hours to understand how districts really work, and after thousands of hours I still don't understand how specialists are supposed to work.

Picture this nightmare: puppeteer Amani established in an isolated snow city with no workable tiles.
I lost it when he found the fishery that was so hilarious.
Can I just say that Civ VI's maps and start locations are still insanely terrible. This 2/3 tile gap between tundra and desert is ridiculous and something that happens way too often. We need a hellblazer custom map like we had in civ v (I think he made one when civ vi was released but it didn't see much revision). Now a typical Civ VI game for me involves so many rerolls that I feel like I'm cheating - starts are far too often either unwinnable or laughably easy - strategic balance is non existent, no wonder civ v is still far more popular for multiplayer.
That's why I play on primordial, at least I knew what I signed up for when I start on 30 marsh tiles

tbh the spread settling is a common bad habit from civ 5 where you dont get punished as much if you settle like that
I think purchasing a Quadriemme could have saved Vancouver. It provides extra city defense, and a couple extra points of damage against those guys you couldn't quite finish off.

Had a game like this. Played a 1v1 deity marathon, huge map, just for fun. Nubia spawned like 10 tiles above me. It didn't go well.

Sir potato, a challenge for you.
No changing card policy except when you changing goverment type (even at same tier goverment) and early empire civic.
I bet Saladin offers a different amount of gold for diplo favor because the random number generator is sensitive to the order of events. So on the first and second run you roll the exactly the same die in exactly the same order, but you use those die for different things depending on the different choices you make.
The first mistake was having a low militarily while being a naighber to Dido
I have seen worse sadly enough from my friends gf. She refuses to learn how to actually play and picks the most random and illogical things to do.
My inner-sadist liked this.

First of all, we've lost our capitol.
How can you confuse Dido and Gorgo. Dido is a horrible being guaranteed to backstab you, Gorgo is a fine-ass warrior queen and prime waifu material.
It may be cool if along with the disaster save they could have sent a turn 1 save or game settings, just to show the player how to NOT get himself into that unwinnable position

It's not a mod -- look in options for something about yield info; it has three options: always off, always on, or on mouse-over.
McWhiskey, I'm pretty good and okay at Civ, been plaing Civ V for years, but I've never gone above king. If I started a game on Deity could I send it to you? It might not be awful, but would be nice to hear what you think and what you would do? It'll likely be as Kupe since he's my favourite leader.

After a wave of attack, the enemy unit survived with just 1 hp left. When this happens too much, I fire up the firetuner, spawn rocket artillery, bomb that bastard, delete the rocket artillery. Solve the problem every time.
Holy crap, I got this exact seed with Canada. Started losing on deity and gave up and started a new save. Be cool if he tried mine. Can never win on deity

At 9:42, I was looking at the options for the wild card slot, and saw the +50% pillaging there. Can you explain the thought process to use the -1Gold unit maintenance card, instead? I was thinking that while the gold income wasn't that great, there also aren't many military units with which to benefit from the reduced maintenance cost.
