OK you actually saved my game while flaming the shit out of me. No hard feelings though i learned a lot from my mistakes :p!!To my defence that was my first diplo victory attempt and it was a terrible one...To give you a little backstory i had alliances with almost everyone(except Wilhemina)from the beginning thats why i didnt have any military but i spent the last 50 turns before this save trying to prevent china from winning(cultural alliance with Nubia ,that had the most culture at the time, included) and as a last ditch effort i declared war to him thinking that my allies would help...HUGE MISTAKE
To answer some of your questions i didnt know that military engineers speed up flood barriers also i didnt know that betreyal emergency existed and when everyone declared on me i gave up on this game
As for the farm spam that was a pretty idiotic thing to do i didnt even realize the food overflow...

P.S Germany was at war with Nederlands for almost the entire game that would explain the nukes to Amsterdam

True. Benevolent dictators/rulers for life are the ideal leadership type since being under the rule of one person with a solid goal and agenda for the people often works better than 2 bickering political parties who all have all sorts of agendas and such between them all and are hardly for the people.
If I remember correctly, Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor that did splendidly ruling Rome, though unfortunately his biggest mistake was letting his son, Commodus, take the throne after him.

Good save of this game, I like this format. Look at the score discrepancy at the end, a glaring hint that there should have been more districts and buildings with all that population. Also I think Germany might have been doing 1000 IQ plays by dropping all those nukes and getting all that gold per turn back

Wow. That was nearly unbelievable. Seeing a game that I would've identified as a total bust being salvaged like that actually inspired me to go back to one of my own that I had judged a lost cause. Great format! Looking forward to the next one!

@@jackmanleblanc2518 Hahah yeah I did actually! It was as the Netherlands and Egypt was closing in on a culture victory. Thankfully I had massive production output, so I just sent a navy to help even things out. Plus I've gotten better at paying attention to potential culture and religious victories from the AI.

This is an awesome concept Potato. Please keep posting such videos. I watch your videos for learning Civ content. And realistically, when you play the game is kind of decided by turn 200. The rest is just shift + enter. This video shows the strategy post turn 200 which is amazing. I feel this adds a new flavor to your content. Thanks
I’ve been playing for Diplomatic Victories in my latest games, and PotatoMcWhiskey describes what you need to do to get one really well here. You have to balance gold, science, culture, and production. You need gold and production to win all the “Send Aid” requests. You also need production for your army-so you can get involved in Emergencies and liberate city states. You also need powerful industrial zone to crank out the Carbon Capture project so you can get enough Diplomatic Favour to dominate the World Congress. And there are, I believe, three wonders that give you Diplomatic Victory Points when built: Mahabodhi Temple (2 Points), Potala Palace (1 Point), and the Statue of Liberty (4 Points). While none of them are crucial for the win, those 4 points from Lady Liberty really help.

This is an awesome series. I don't play on Diety(cause I'm not good enough yet), but if I had that game I would hit the restart button and start telling myself it's OK that I just wasted 2 hours.
Also, that triple-nuke of Amsterdam was absolutely priceless.

You could have an interesting game playing with Russia's blizzard ability. Temp cold, disaster 4, maybe tilted axis map? Never fight a land war with Russia during winter

The nitty gritty optimization problems are super useful to point out so please keep it up. This format is extremely helpful! Everything seems to go so right in all of your normal games in ways that I can never replicate, and watching you pointing out errors is really insightful

one of the most hilarious things i've seen this week was a nuclear sub fighting some city state iron clads. it fires the entire missile animation for regular ranged attacks. but since the iron clad is RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT the missile leaves the sub and then just falls over and explodes.

Those rebel spawning neighborhoods are the sole reason why I rush victory before it is unlocked.
Cool vid Potato. I have a few thoughts.
1) Make it a bit clearer at the beginning of the vid that it is a disaster Scenerio you are going to save (maybe come up with a cool name for the series)
2) Take some time before you do anything in the save to explain the current setup of the world, the major threats, what the plan for victory.
3) Spend more time going over the things that the player can do to improve in the future, without being too harsh. Be nice to the person who submitted the save.
4) Use these files to understand common mistakes being made in the community and to inspire future tutorials.
Overall, this is a great start, impressed you turned it around. I hope to see more of these.

In every game I've made, I've never could reverse a situation like this.
I've Successfully win my first deity with Germany (thx for the video explaining industrial zone bonuses and many other things) . And now trying to make my way in Deity with Mali ("tea is only just ok" Religious Victory 😉😝) .
I am in full support of Triage Tuesdays if we get more insane comebacks from hopeless situations like this. This was really enthralling to watch!

Holy crap. I actually just spent an hour watching someone else play a videogame. That is how informative this video was.
I love watching these as I do learn from them. I'll never ever be anywhere near as good as PMW, but, it has helped me consistently beat the game on higher levels. I just can't seem to do as well is the long term planning for each city to really excel in the high level games like Prince or Deity lol

The fact that Germany nuked 3 times Amsterdam is a bug that I think is common (at least during my games). I had a game where China had 4 nuclear bombs and 5 thermonuclear bombs and dumped them all on Kumasi, before calling it a day and leaving it be without even trying to conquer it.

A reason why every unit you got was promoted is that you might have a level 3 military alliance with someone, which would give every starting unit (and when upgrading units) a promotion
That's it, I am buying the Platinum edition and getting all the DLC to the game! I hope you're pleased with yourself! I played it for just under 2 hours right around launch, and haven't touched it since, but it looks like a great game with a lot of replayability. I have around 300 hours in Civ 5 at a very low level, but I think I'm ready to actually learn how to play, because it looks really entertaining!

He was also trying to win diplomatic with only 4 City-states alive, he wasn't the suzerain of even one of them, he had only one ally, probably didn't build the Országház, not that it would do any good without City States. That's a lot of potential favors that he wasn't making.
This is essentially Potato shaming anyone who sends in a save. :p
