The other day i passed a guy right before the finish line for 3rd place, i see the race ranking pop up and i see im 0.05 ahead. But like 2-3 second later my opponent's car is moved to last place with DNF mention. He probably rage quit right after the finish line (the game bug out) or maybe right before the finish, im not sure but yea dont do that either haha
I used to get soooo frustrated and am guilty of rage quitting. It was always deflating when on the first turn someone would hit or knock you off track. But yes 100% finish race. Not only does it kill dr but you never know what can happen.
@@knightrider40 I have learnt to keep going even if I have been punted off and find myself last and 10 seconds behind the last driver. I have often got back and finished in the top six as others just spin out in front of me or get penalties. Consistent fast lap times really pays off.
One extra tip I've got about watching replays: watch it in the camera view you personally race in at least once as well. Chase cam is useful for identifying some parts of the track you might not be able to see and building a visual reference library for any given corner, but learning where to brake in the camera you are actually going to use is critical. As I play in VR, there is a lot of extra information that's crucial for speed I glean from watching in first person camera. Not having access to the digital Tach, for example, means I need to be able to read the gauges actually present in the car to figure out when to shift.
Watched till the end despite not owning GT7… I’ve enjoyed your recent epiphany and how you’ve really started to find your feet within the format. Keep it up buddy.
Great instructional video Rory, thanks. I'm a driver who's gone from B to A and back again a number of times. My other tips are to do the weekly race you're good at (B or C). Spend a half hour or more qualifying as high up the grid as possible (bit of a shame we have to do this) so you're racing ahead of battles and carnage. Do that race over and over and you'll get positive (blue) DR after every race. If you're having a bad race, don't quit because it'll take you another 3 or 4 races to get back the DR you lose if you quit.
My main issue of getting a higher ranking is mostly that I’m constantly surrounded by idiots online :’) Blocking, braking in a full throttle corner, forcing you off the track, dive bombing and straight up ramming… I guess it can mostly be prevented by trying to qualify as far forward as you can, but I’ve experienced there’s still a high chance of still getting rammed of forced off track even if you start p1… Online racing would be a lot more enjoyable if players had better driving etiquette. Lots of people get so angry when you pass them and often will resort to any dirty trick they can think of to ‘get you back’… especially in the lower ranked lobbies, decency en driving etiquette are often nonexistent.
I hear you man. I was having the same trouble. I had finally managed to get an A rating, only to have the next week of daily races be a slaughterhouse. I got knocked down to B again and was really frustrated. The week after that was the same story. I had to calm myself and figure out what the problem was. What I came up with: I can't control the other players, but I have some measure control of myself. First, I worked on my qually times so I'd either be a pole sitter or a top 5 time in the race. This meant more study and more time on the track by myself. But it was worth it because the less traffic the less chance I have of being run off the track. Second thing I did was let other people beat themselves silly. Be patient and let folks mess up enough that I can just go clean on by. These two things helped me to finally get to A+. Hope this helps man. Hang in there!
One other thing I thought of. I do the majority of my racing on Monday and Tuesdays. The skill level of the other drivers is lower as they have had less time to practice. Unless I have an amazing qualifying time and really great race pace, I will usually only do the daily races on those days, and focus on the cup races the rest of the week. I can usually finish in the top half of the grid the majority of the time, which is the key to gaining DR. This is so much harder to do later in the week when all the drivers have been practicing for days and days.
@@Ledpencil82 No chance for a guy like me to come anywhere near top half qualifying if I haven't had all week to practice though. It's a terrible catch-22. It REALLY sucks to absolutely have to qualify higher than 5 to get a decent race in, but that's what it is. Which ultimately means a lot less racing for me.
@@PhpGtr Do you watch lap guides from people like Tidgney and Mistah? It's become religious for me to check them out every week and study. Do you follow other players' ghosts while time trialing? Also has helped me greatly in improving my lap times. Set the ghost to .2-.5 ahead of yours and configure it to reset the ghost's position at every split on the track. If you haven't done that yet, you are missing a whole heap of help that this game offers. It used to take me several days as well to really learn a car/track. As I've done what I've just explained every week for months now, it has taken less and less time. I wouldn't be defeated if I were you just yet!
I've had the game since it came out. Bought a wheel at the same time. It has taken me til just last week (4/28) to achieve A+... over two years. The only reason I made it, was watching Rory and maybe two other guys and picking up on the things he mentioned in this video. Thank you Rory! The only other thing I would mention, is perhaps to be selective with the daily races. I, like many others, have a limited amount of time during the week. I get to play maybe a max of 3-6 hours every week. It isn't enough time for me to master 2 races. So I pick the combo that best suits my ability, and I attack it. Sometimes, I guess wrong. Instead of beating my head against the wall and losing DR, I switch to the other track. Back when we had the 20 laps at Suzuka, I wanted that race so badly, but out of 5-6 tries, I got top 5 one time. Had to switch to daily B. Immediate improvement ensued. Thanks for all the videos Rory!!😊
Yeah, I avoid the temptation to just jump in just because I want to race. I've went weeks without racing at times because I know the car/track combos don't suit me, and would just result in losing DR.
@@FatherJHackett Sure thing man. Like this week... Race C is fun to learn with the Formula cars, awesome to time trial. But at that speed too many folks (including myself to some degree) have different breaking points and aren't patient enough. It is a DR and SR nightmare! I'll probably avoid the race itself like the Black Death
I'm an A+ rated controller driver, so Rory's absolutely right about that. I sometimes even get a top 100 time, though it really depends on car and track combo. There's certain downsides to controller, some are kinda big like tyre wear in FF cars is dramatically worse, and tyre wear in general is slightly worse. You also can't turn in as fast and as hard as wheel drivers, but controller can also be very good for medium speed trail braking type corners. You kinda have to drive around controller sometimes, like using weak ABS, or tuning cars for more oversteer, but it's very competitively viable.
As a controller racer I always feel lost against wheel drivers with the lack of steering rotation. I miss gt6 on PS3 and being able to change that in settings
@@dubj5191 I use the triggers, since I can feel like the ABS activating or breaking traction since they vibrate, it's pretty useful. I don't generally do the ebrake thing since it's so rarely enabled.
From my experience here are the differences in steering wheel and controller: Wheel: Better turning and throttle control, but oversteer is very easy. Controller: Less accurate turning and throttle control, but oversteer is no where near as bad and easier to recover. I prefer controller bc oddly it feels more realistic. The sim racing setup was so far from actual driving it made the experience more arcade like.
Roy, cheers from the States. Been watching the top replays but never thought to write any notes and wasn't aware of the settings change. Never give that any attention. This is crazy helpful, your lessons are great.
DR A is as far up as I could go. It truly became stressful at that point, like an additional job besides my actual one: qualifying alone became a serious grind. That, along with the frustration of being constantly punted to oblivion, made me put the game down for a while.
Stick with tracks you’re good at, one week i am top 1000 the next week its 2000 until i learn the track better, and if you have learned a track and it returns 2 months later you are sub top 1000 more easily
A+ driver here, Im a decent amount into A+ too, great video, follow what he says and you will gradually get quicker , great advice. I will throw this one question at you though Rory, how do you feel about countersteer assist and what ever the other one is," active stability control" if I remember correctly? I turn both of these on for daily races as it means I survive unexpected hits from other racers. I still usually finish in the top 5 in A+ daily races. Happy for you to say negatives in regard to these aids but it works for me , cheers. Keep up the good work.
Yes..This. BUT..Dont just keep lapping and lapping. Stop. Watch your replays after every few laps. Just sorting braking zones for a track can save seconds, then you can find lines and nuances for each circuit. Listen to me, the resident B+ "expert".
Practice also means doing races btw. Because you can be fast as you want on an empty track, if you can't handle other cars around you, being fast isn't that valuable. It is, if you get pole position every race.
I finally managed to get to A rating last week through the hell of Trial Mountain. Getting a good qualifying lap in and racing clean is a big help too. Great video Rory!
Great advice Rory! I’ve found I can go much faster with traction control set to 1, maybe if it’s a more powerful rear wheel drive car I will use it set on 2! To me, it’s just enough to get more traction out of corners in lower gears and get on the power sooner. But everyone will find this different! Keep up the great vids mate 👍
Rory I've been a bottom ranked D driver who usually qualifies 10-14 in the daily B race and finishes 10-14 in the daily B race. I watched this video last night and then today: * I turned off the brake zone indicators * I turned off the drive line markers * watched a replay of the fastest car on daily group B noting all his braking zones on an excel spreadsheet. * qualified while referencing the braking zones until I memorized them * qualified 6th! (my best ever gr3 qualify) * finished 4th (by far my best ever gr3 finish) Thanks so much for these practical tips
I can definitely recommend manual gearing, I have been a casual racing gamer on and off for many years and I always used auto however I went manual couple of months ago and it’s made me quicker and to learn manual is painful at first but after a couple of days or so it becomes as normal as all other inputs you do. Great video Rory 👌
I played GT5, GT6 GT Sport and GT7 in single player over the last 13 years, but started racing online in GT7 only three months ago. Still I've been A+ rated for the majority of this time. So my additional advise as someone with lots of GT but little online experience: Don't exclusively use qualifying as your practice. The car will be a little less grippy on race settings. It's not a big difference, but still noticeable. What I do if I'm satisfied with my quali lap but unsure about my consistency, the tire wear or fuel strategy, is simulate a full race distance or at least a long run on the exact same settings as the race in single player time trial. After all practice is everything. It makes a huge difference whether you just sit down for 15min of quali and then do a couple races or if you instead spend more time on your preparation. Despite maybe having time for fewer races you will most likely gain more DR if you do it that way because of less mistakes as well as better pace and consistency.
Another little known tip, most people (even a lot of A+ guys) don’t practice the turn 1 braking point in a rolling start, learn the latest point to brake while still being able to make the apex and you can gain a position pretty much for free
Im an A driver myself. I’ve only got a controller. Often wondered if id be quicker with a steering wheel and pedals, because id surely be smoother on the throttle and at steering? Pro’s have often said the main difference is that controllers mean you kill the tyres quicker on tyre saving races. Great video though rory with excellent points. Over the years watching you I have already learnt everything on the video. The main thing i find at the start of the new combos on Mondays is that it csn sometimes take me an hour or 2 just practicing before I can reach optimum pace. However id rather sacrifice getting 1st in the meta (and sacrifice an A+ ranking) and use an anti-meta to fight for a win whilst having fun.
I got to A rated with a controller, felt I had reached my limit, so bought a wheel. 3 months in and I'm no quicker. I found throttle modulation much easier with a controller. I can hit an apex better with a wheel, much more precise transition through high speed corners too, and you can feel understeer much better, so can quickly gauge your limits. But the biggest holdback now is conrer exit, much harder to catch a spin on the wheel too. Thought once I got used to a wheel I would be able to get to A+, but I'm nowhere near yet.
Good clear vid Rory, will help loads of people. Next stop - Racecraft Vid or Next Steps on from this vid (trail braking, getting car straighter quicker, overtaking, apexing, understanding what the controller or wheel is telling you e.g. understeer/oversteer etc etc). Looking forward to the next video in this series of 'Faster Driving with Rory!'
Thanks for the video. The example on TC at 5 was extreme, a valid test in my opinion would be no more than 2. TC is often needed on some standing start races to get off the line. Let’s not forget if in the rain with wrong tires. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Great video Rory and really good tips. I love that you write down the lap on paper as I have an A4 notebook full of data for different circuits and races - braking points, lap times, race start/finish positions, total race time, quali time etc. This helps me no end, so I think it’s great advice. If I can add my own tip, it would be: for your own motivation, unless you’re in the top 100 times, focus on the % difference between your tt time and the fastest tt time rather than the number of seconds you are off. This removes the track lap time variability and enables you to measure your progress week to week regardless of the track. I started out trying to get within 5%, now I’m pushing to be 1.5-2 % consistently. Thanks again for the video - maybe the next one can be about how to use ghosts effectively 😊.
That is so true. Learning that skill is the main factor in getting quicker. It can take 10ths off each corner which in turn can take seconds off a lap time, especially with many corners.
A+ driver here, but not as high as Rory. Just want to add a take from a guy who got there doing things a little different. I will use traction control 1 when needed. His example in the video used TC5, agree there is no need to ever use that high of a setting if trying to get to A+. Probably have a hard time getting to B with TC5. But, if driving a car that can be somewhat squirrely, TC1 has a minimal impact on speed and can help prevent problems for me when racing in heavy traffic. Mainly only use in Gr3 and above and only when important for control. I dont choose the fastest car in each race. I have a few cars I enjoy driving and try to get the most out of them. My most common choice is Ferarri for Gr3 & Gr4. Almost never the meta cars, though Gr4 458 is often stronger than Gr3 against the field. For me I get more enjoyment from driving certain cars so stick with them. However, Rory is right that the meta cars are better if you're simply chasing speed No big disagreements really, but wanted to point out that there is some flexibility in getting to A+
I'm not A+ yet, but another point about car selection: some cars are much easier to drive near the limit than others. A good example is the 911 in Gr3: it's a stable car and you can get on the throttle early without worrying about spinning out. I find that I can drive it faster and more confidently than some of the oversteery FR cars, even if the FR car would be faster in the hands of a top driver.
I agree with your TCS analysis. When I started gt7, I think I just had the default setting which was either TCS 2 or 3. I have slowly weened myself off for most group 4 cars, I use level 1 for GR3, and GR1 and GR2 cars varies depending on the car for me. For setting a lap I have it off completely to get as fast a time as possible. but for the races, I don't have the skill level like Rory and others to take it off completely. Perhaps as I improve I will eventually not use it anymore. But I think it would be a mistake to immediately go from whatever you normally use to zero. I think it is better to gradually lessen it until you don't need it anymore
I just hate driving boring gr4 and gr3 all the time sportmode is still wack on penalties so you wont see me there its a waste of time if im not having fun
Thank you for your helpful and well explained tips. You clearly show how to make the small changes. I've been so close to an A rank on a pad and I really feel like this video validates what I thought I was missing.
I’m such an idiot. I’ve always looked to y’all’s videos on how to maximize speed on certain courses when you’ve just showed me it’s right there for me to access on the game! Haha I will still tune in, promise!
Rory mate, fantastic video. I've been waiting soo long for someone in your position to make a video like this. Really really good and some points in this video I haven't seen mentioned before. Nice one, hope you're enjoying your curry mate
Old.timer here, i say practice practice practice, and watch channels like here for lines and gears, im 55 now so dont play as much but still love the game. but watch to learn
Another tip even though I'm only A Rank but took me over 1100 races to get there (yes that a ton of racing to achieve it) First thing first don't ever quit a race it's never worth it just carry on you never know what going to happen. Two me personally I do use the meta cars during the week if there one (or at deep forest I was in WRX and that was nowhere near as fast as Bugatti) and find the quickest time if it too quick find a slower ghost and work from there. 3 i do watch tidgney guides that come out on a Monday afternoon and there a huge help too especially as he gives the break zones and so on in his track guides and big shout-out to him too massively help me get my break markers too. 4 as rory said and I fully agree with everything he said too but also just watching him see how he does what he does could also help and if you get stuck you can always ask him or anyone in chat will be happy to give you some pointers. 5 when you achieved what you want on one account have a second one to handy if you feel like the races aren't your cup of tea you can still do them and not worry about your rank either. Most important thing is just have fun end of races if you beat a higher rank driver than yourself you'll gain Dr when the bar is full you'll have achieved a rank increase now some will struggle at first and Will bounce between the ranks (im currently that between b and a rank) but the thing is you'll be one day not bounce between them and stay where you are. Final tip do some lobby races with some fast guys learn from them practice defending and attacking them if you bump someone off wait for them trust me you'll gain a ton of respect for Doing so And will make you a much more respected driver in the process. Have fun though and hope my tips help someone out too from someone on a PS4 pad 😆 have a wonderful day everyone
Nice video Rory, I like it when you throw this type of content in the mix.. 100% Agree with all said, only thing I would throw in there is as with Daily C last week where the Evo was the meta. Harsher downshifts and 1st work well with rear wheel drives but not so well with 4 wheel drives.. That's both from real life experience and having a grind last week and hitting 21st global in VR last week. Rear wheel drives on harsh downshifts you are basically chucking an anchor out the back and dragging it along with 4WD you loose the front end a bit on turn in as the front is locking up a bit.. Again on the dropping to 1st even on the hairpin on C last week it created power understeer on exit as the front wheels lost traction.. But 90% of the time yes as we are in rear wheel drives both are key for rotation.. All else was spot on advice.. Nice work 👍
Another good tip is pay attention to gearing and TCS for standing starts. Some cars will come off the line much better with TCS 1 and in 2nd gear for example.
very good point's Rory, thank you,i shall practice LOTS over this bank holiday weekend and see what i can do, someone said to me once, "YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY" how very true Rory, enjoy the bank holiday buddy 👍👍👍
This is a great instructional video on how to get better as a driver but, in my opinion, getting to A+ is more about the racing. Unless you start in pole, your lines will depend on the position of other cars on the track. It would be great to see a video that illustrates the difference between A+ and lower ranked lobbies when it comes to overtaking and defending.
Really nice, informative video Rory. I've learned a lot of this from watching you and our friends in the community over the last year. Still gotta work on the last two pointers though (I love my GTR too much lol). But I am getting faster and these tricks are the shizzle.
Thanks for this video. It’s really interesting. It baffles me how they do it but this was super helpful. I know I’ll never be the fastest but if I can drag in consistent silvers instead of bronzes it would be great. I had no idea you could watch some peoples replays. That will be so helpful. Keep up the good content
Also definitely lifted right off before the line so he wasn't as close as he would've been to his original time. Definitely manipulated a few results there 😂
@@JeffWeselyanI usually just keep TC=1 to have least amount of engine lag, but still have that minor assist to keep me front just onstantly spinning.😊
Excellent tips. Thanks for sharing. Once I decide to get back to doing dailies (since I got tired of the bash fest) I'll definitely put these to good use...
Okay, so currently I’m a C/B rated driver driving in Auto. I have struggled to get beyond a B rating and desperately want to get an A Rating (and remain A Rated!). I am going to take the plunge to manual (eek) and see how I get on. Thank you for the very detailed analyses Rory and maybe I’ll see you in a daily race sometime 👊🏼
You will initially be slower, don't let it put you off. Just aim for improvement not comparison to something that is different e.g. experienced auto time vs current inexperienced manual time.
Do it! and be patient with yourself. It will be well worth it. Being able to short shift in corners is a game changer for qually and race pace. Best of luck!
guys, keep practicing...that is the biggest tip. I play on game pad with X and square for throtle and breaking and R2 L2 for shifting (yea i know, i'm an idiot) and i am almost A ranked. It can be done
this is great Rory, thanks for these. Could we have a video on the DR/SR rules and when you start earing DR (finishing place) and what happens when you quit or get kicked off . :)
I want to try this so bad but for some reason racing games give me intense anxiety online. It's like I'm just waiting to be sidelined by a car doing 200 mph into a 40mph turn.
I'm a 86 year old rev head, got all my licences except my super, having a problem with that. I guess the relexes ain't what they used to be 😄but I'll keep at it, maybe by the time I'm 90 LOL
Great video as always! Another important thing is consistency. One fast qualification time won't bring you wins if you can't hold the pace lap after lap.
Just started racing online for the first time ever this week. Was tempted to rage quit after getting spun in the first lap three straight races by corner divers but I didn't and eventually those guys plus more quit. It's worth hanging in there. My ratings went up way faster than I imagined. My DR will level out because I'm currently limited, but it's fun AF and I'll improve with practice.
As useful as your tips are for a lot of people, they won't get you to A± easily. Your at the mercy of the drivers around you in the lobbies. The best tip is to get a good quali time to get ahead of the mayhem. Best racing you can get is in a community with good, clean, respectful drivers.
The way I practised was to drive the whole track at 3/4 throttle, I have pedals btw. But try to drive around at no more than 3/4 throttle and learn where the muscles need to be.
Good video. You make it sound so easy but it's more difficult than just trying to explain it. I use tc1 or 2 depending on race and cars. I'm a low A, and I have tried everything you said. It helped a little but I still spin out. 😢
Great video! would be nice if you do one talking about the transition controller-wheel, its the most difficult thing i had confront in my firsts months
Incredible stuff! Kind of a newish to Gt7 (well… coming back) and love this kind of content. I’ve been bouncing around the C/B DR world, always looking for tips!
Thank you sir for your good advice I don't speak English so thank you to TH-cam for the translation good luck and looking forward to watching you. Thanks
I’m new to gt7 and loving it but only on controller. Is controller and manual really doable or is it just a matter of me grinding and getting used to it?? Really enjoying your vids mate!! Keep up the awesome work!!
Love your videos, Rory! Your track limit example seems to be missing most of your recommendation, though. Both clips you used just cut to the end of the run instead of showing how far over the rumble strips you were able to push the car to make sure your exit angle was good enough to keep the accelerator pinned through that section. Examples at 8:30 and 8:50, it's missing your initial approach at the bottom of Eau Rouge. I'd love to see how far over you're able to get without taking a penalty, thanks!
The point here in the vid is clear, but I think Wattkins Glenn is a better to show this. It has huge apexes and very forgiving when it comes to track limits. In most corners you can go beyond the tarmac as long as 2 wheels stay on the apex.
@@BostonFaith Yeah I'll probably head into circuit experience to see how far I can push the limits myself, I was just curious to see Rory's line - and also confused as to why those sections weren't included, thought maybe it was missed in the edit.
Just started,Cant bring myself to switch to manual lol ive just compensated with parts, throttle control, pumping the brakes and steering reaction. Getting gold on all cafe races so far.
For those who are reading this.....do *_not_* rage quit. Finish the race. Do not rage quit.
The other day i passed a guy right before the finish line for 3rd place, i see the race ranking pop up and i see im 0.05 ahead. But like 2-3 second later my opponent's car is moved to last place with DNF mention. I have learnt to keep going even if I have been punted off and find myself last and 10 seconds behind the last driver.
I have often got back and finished in the top six as others just spin out in front of me or get penalties.
Consistent fast lap times really pays off.
Stop punting me off track and I'll stop leaving. I refuse to be dead last because someone else's ego was cracked by my mere presence
I don’t rage quit, I quit to keep my sanity

If you haven't done that yet, you are missing a whole heap of help that this game offers. It used to take me several days as well to really learn a car/track. As I've done what I've just explained every week for months now, it has taken less and less time. I wouldn't be defeated if I were you just yet!
Yes, that's why I'm racing in league now, and rarely in sport mode anymore, way more fun there
One of the best comprehensive GT7 “go quick” guides … at least for those of us who are new to sim racing within the last few months.
Only a few mins in so far... And so far it's a masterclass
Ja ja ja ja you know it. We love it. And dont let me catch you not doing it
This was a very smart video to make. Now, when new people from GT7 look for tips and tricks, they will find the best community in GT7💪💯
I love how everyone says “choose the car that fits you best, the one that fits your driving style… bla bla” and then Rory “choose the meta!” 😂
Do you throttle/brake with L2/R2 or the right stick? Just curious, & do you use the e brake trick when it’s enabled for like time trials or w/e
From my experience here are the differences in steering wheel and controller:
Wheel: Better turning and throttle control, but oversteer is very easy.
Controller: Less accurate turning and throttle control, but oversteer is no where near as bad and easier to recover.
I prefer controller bc oddly it feels more realistic. The sim racing setup was so far from actual driving it made the experience more arcade like.
What setting do you use for the upshoft/downshift?
I can’t get a setting that my fingers are comfortable with, it always feels awkward
Roy, cheers from the States. Been watching the top replays but never thought to write any notes and wasn't aware of the settings change. Never give that any attention. This is crazy helpful, your lessons are great.
Holy crap this really help so much. Went from P12 all the time to P2 in one race. You earned a subscriber!
And don't forget the most important part: Practice, practice and more practice... Otherwise you will not get any consistency
This is the key to be a good racer. It works for me.
Damn Rory, relentless with the Friday content! This is going to be a great video to refer back to for a lot of the GT community.
I hope so! I’m not the quickest but I hope I can help some people
I finally managed to get to A rating last week through the hell of Trial Mountain.
I watched this video last night and then today:
* I turned off the brake zone indicators
* I turned off the drive line markers
* watched a replay of the fastest car on daily group B noting all his braking zones on an excel spreadsheet.
* qualified while referencing the braking zones until I memorized them
* qualified 6th! (my best ever gr3 qualify)
* finished 4th (by far my best ever gr3 finish)
Thanks so much for these practical tips
I can definitely recommend manual gearing, I have been a casual racing gamer on and off for many years and I always used auto however I went manual couple of months ago and it’s made me quicker and to learn manual is painful at first but after a couple of days or so it becomes as normal as all other inputs you do. Great video Rory 👌
I played GT5, GT6 GT Sport and GT7 in single player over the last 13 years, but started racing online in GT7 only three months ago. Still I've been A+ rated for the majority of this time.
So my additional advise as someone with lots of GT but little online experience:
Don't exclusively use qualifying as your practice.
Thanks Rory, Afrer playing every GT game I guess it’s time to switch to manual!
Another little known tip, most people (even a lot of A+ guys) don’t practice the turn 1 braking point in a rolling start, learn the latest point to brake while still being able to make the apex and you can gain a position pretty much for free
Yep, its common sense to learn your braking point from the rolling start.
@@johnhammond6423 lol some people forget the little things though, even the best of us
Im an A driver myself.
What are ur controller settings?
Another tip is trail braking!! Learning how to trail brake properly massively improved my laptimes
However, Rory is right that the meta cars are better if you're simply chasing speed
No big disagreements really, but wanted to point out that there is some flexibility in getting to A+
I'm not A+ yet, but another point about car selection: some cars are much easier to drive near the limit than others.
For GR.3 IRL, even the pros have TCS set to the lowest possible setting at times.
I just hate driving boring gr4 and gr3 all the time sportmode is still wack on penalties so you wont see me there its a waste of time if im not having fun
Including the fact anybody A+ thinks they are there while 80% of you suckers cant tune and drive a freaking roadcar if your life depended on it
As someone just starting out, there is some good info here and it helped me. Thanks for making this one man.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a great and informative video.
Another tip even though I'm only A Rank but took me over 1100 races to get there (yes that a ton of racing to achieve it)
First thing first don't ever quit a race it's never worth it just carry on you never know what going to happen.
Great insights for all us newbies…. Saved the vid for reference and will keep coming back to it 👍
Nice video Rory, I like it when you throw this type of content in the mix..
Nice work 👍
You're decent Rory, just watching your videos quells my race anxiety, all the best man.
Turning off traction control has made me improve so much. Instant quicker lap times. Cheers Rory!
Thank you so much for doing this video. I cannot wait to practice these techniques later tonight.
Love the video man, definitely some really really helpful tips here that you don’t see other people giving out. Thanks for the excellent work Rory!
Nicer Edit, danke für zusammenschneiden 😁
Another good tip is pay attention to gearing and TCS for standing starts. Some cars will come off the line much better with TCS 1 and in 2nd gear for example.
You've previously steered away from coaching type vids, but genuinely think you'd be very good at it, based on this video alone.
very good point's Rory, thank you,i shall practice LOTS over this bank holiday weekend and see what i can do, someone said to me once, "YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY" how very true Rory, enjoy the bank holiday buddy 👍👍👍
I like this video... I have already applied some of these things after watching this video. Very good informational video. 💪
Great Vid Rory! Keep up the new content, it’s really enjoyable and valuable at the same time!
Thanks Rory, Been stuck in class B forever. These tips will help. Especially like the lap analysis approach.
He did traction control dirty since he did on full TC not 1 or 2
Also definitely lifted right off before the line so he wasn't as close as he would've been to his original time. Definitely manipulated a few results there 😂
Yup, digit did a way better video analysis earlier this week
I hate tc off but I can do some tracks
@@thetiredoldtiger4711Thought I was the only one that saw that lol…time would have been damn near the same 😂😂😂
@@JeffWeselyanI usually just keep TC=1 to have least amount of engine lag, but still have that minor assist to keep me front just onstantly spinning.😊
Excellent tips. Thanks for sharing. Once I decide to get back to doing dailies (since I got tired of the bash fest) I'll definitely put these to good use...
This is great Rory. More tutorials please. Id really like to see you take on braking into corners.
2 tips in and I already know this is a good guide, people need to watch this
Okay, so currently I’m a C/B rated driver driving in Auto.
Another tip, when there is a Kart race increase the degrees rotation on your wheel a bit then put the boot into it
Thanks Rory for this. Learnt so much especially Eau Rouge which I fell into the same track limit trap as you stated. Now to practice...!!
guys, keep practicing...that is the biggest tip. I play on game pad with X and square for throtle and breaking and R2 L2 for shifting (yea i know, i'm an idiot) and i am almost A ranked. It can be done
You just made my day. At about 1:30 you explain why existing in a lower gear makes sense. Thanks! Now, on with the video.
Such great info Rory. I've been racing GT since GT1. Always learning. Hope we could race one day
this is great Rory, thanks for these. Could we have a video on the DR/SR rules and when you start earing DR (finishing place) and what happens when you quit or get kicked off . :)
Good vid. Always annoying when the ghost gets a better exit. I’ve got work to do. Pass the note pad. See you on track, online soon 👊🏻
Rory, just watched this and many videos and want to take a moment to thank you . Will be putting pointers into practice soon . 👊DIOLCH YN FAWR 🏴
Wish I'd seen this 2 years ago 😅 Well explained, well put together instructional video.
what a great guy and great channel , keep it up mate
I want to try this so bad but for some reason racing games give me intense anxiety online. It's like I'm just waiting to be sidelined by a car doing 200 mph into a 40mph turn.
Great video Rory! Thanks
Loving your recent content! Keep it up
Thanks! Making some changes, trying some new things and swinging for the fences
I'm a 86 year old rev head, got all my licences except my super, having a problem with that. I guess the relexes ain't what they used to be 😄but I'll keep at it, maybe by the time I'm 90 LOL
Great video. Just what I have been looking for. Thanks Roreeeeee
Thanks, gained 6 seconds improvement in laptime and just moved from C to B.
Great video as always! Another important thing is consistency. One fast qualification time won't bring you wins if you can't hold the pace lap after lap.
9:59 but I like using the McLaren🤣 I'm screwed ain't i?😂 grate video, mate👍🏾
This video has answered so many questions, thank you Rory

Great insight Rory. Thanks for sharing your experience. Really appreciate 👍🏻
The way I practised was to drive the whole track at 3/4 throttle, I have pedals btw. But try to drive around at no more than 3/4 throttle and learn where the muscles need to be.
I like your videos Rory that I sometimes don’t have time to watch them but I inter to give you a like and leave.. love you mat
Good video. You make it sound so easy but it's more difficult than just trying to explain it. I use tc1 or 2 depending on race and cars. I'm a low A, and I have tried everything you said. It helped a little but I still spin out. 😢
Great guide - can’t wait to put some of these tips into practice 👍🏼
Good tips...the ones i learn alonrle over years...the best recs...good w9rk
Great video! would be nice if you do one talking about the transition controller-wheel, its the most difficult thing i had confront in my firsts months
Incredible stuff! Kind of a newish to Gt7 (well… coming back) and love this kind of content. I’ve been bouncing around the C/B DR world, always looking for tips!
Thank you sir for your good advice I don't speak English so thank you to TH-cam for the translation good luck and looking forward to watching you. Thanks
Fantastic video Rory, really great pointers, I'll let you know how I get on!!
I know this is a cliche thing to say, but if I can get to A+ then anyone can. I consider myself the world’s slowest A+, but I am A+!
Thank you for all the hard work you do.
Just started,Cant bring myself to switch to manual lol ive just compensated with parts, throttle control, pumping the brakes and steering reaction. Getting gold on all cafe races so far.
Great video thank you, I enjoyed it a lot 👍🏻
love to see you do the same tricks with a controller, ie manual gearbox and no tc
Thanks Rory, great video 👌👌
