Yeah it's a trip. All of this Chili Pepper footage was for the documentary we started in 1988 thru 1991. It was never produced until 2005. It was an hour, twenty minutes. My girlfriend/editor at the time, refused to burn a copy for me to give to the band, for review, she held the external hard drive hostage, then deleted the footage, claimed I didn't know the band, and ran off with another man. So here it is, part of a documentary that has never been seen. Glad you enjoy this.

Yeah, he started using Strats pretty soon after, the guitar tone isn't quite right here with the Ibanez metal guitar but John's 1989 Strat tone is nothing short of angelic. Seriously, I don't know if it was the non master volume Marshall on loud with the Tube Screamer pushing it, but John's late 1989 Stratocaster tone is probably what I consider to be his tonal peak, and probably the tonal peak of all guitarists ever! From what I gather, by the June 30 1989 performance in Hawaii John had started using his rosewood fingerboard sunburst 1970s Strat. A recording of this show exists, but isn't circulating, all we have are a few black and white photos. Michael Beinhorn talks abut this in his interview with Rick Beato, he said John had the Ibanez before joining RHCP and it was all wrong for the band.

This was Chad's very first live performance with the band. The bands manager called me to come down and film it for that reason. They weren't sure if they were gonna keep him. Flea wasn't happy with the drums, you can tell at the end of the show,. Flea storms off stage.
