Finland was his last, check that one. Provinssirock ‘88. There is a story also how a rockband from my country (Estonia) was asked to perform at Provinssirock and on the way from harbour to the festival place the finns said tjey must pick up some band from usa. Estonians were pissed off, but it turned out to be fun band called Red Hot Chili Peppers. Of course all were stoned to the bone of drugs we never heard before (88 was when sovjet started to crumble). The chilli peppers achieved more fame than I thought at this point. When chad talks about auditioning for an "underground band" I don't picture an underground band touring the world and playing pinkpop
Slovak had the crunch sound, and that was my favorite RCHP era by far. Frusciante had some good moments for sure but the Peppers weren’t the same after this.
Yeah agree totally - as talented as John is his drug abuse completely stripped the “fun” out of the Chilis over time. Thankfully mother’s milk and BSSM exist!
La mejor época y la mejor formación de la banda después de la que todos conocemos. Hillel tenía un estilo tremendo y tocaba muy bien. La influencia de este en Frusciante es notable
I can see how happy and free AK is with his original band mates. I don't think he ever thought it would be a shorter period of time together? If it feels good it is bad. I think that would have angered him.
Say wahtever you want about current day watered down RHCP, no one sounded like this at the time. Fresh unique, sound borrowing from acts like Parlament and punk rock.
He found the rhcp's guitar sound and John went for it afterwards... he just started developping his own style and it came out as a masterpiece in bssm. Hillel gave an identity to the band, with Flea. John and Chad put them on another level.
@@coreytrevor1255no chance, their funk sound would become irrelevant in the early 2000’s sound was changing and style was changing, surf and skateboarding culture became to take over with the mellower sounds and stripped back style, this era of chili peppers had too much going on, too much chorus, too much saturated guitar and the bass was very 80’s quacky sounding. John’s influence when he came back after listening to a fuck Tonne of the cure etc. brought them that real nice mellower style
A mi gusto eran muy buenos. Tenían un estilo bastante único para la época. RATM started in 1991. So YES, they were influenced by RHCP (a lot). Check some instrumentals by RHCP around the time John and Chad joined in, like "The a song that made us what we are today". RATM clearly loved them.
You need to change your meds if you think modern RHCP are better than those early albums. freaky and upflift are genius and were truly groundbreaking. the only other album they mad that was as good is californication imo.
Everything from Freaky Styley to Blood Sugar Sex Magic is 10/10. Their debut album is pretty weak, sure, but mostly because of the horrible production. The songs from that album like Green Heaven, Buckle up or Police Helicopter played live were fire!
Man Hillel’s guitar sounds amazing here. He was groundbreaking in my opinion, no one in that scene played like him.
The best live show we have of Hillel era
what?
he was dead a month after this was filmed.

Agreed, but I think he did his best to honor Hillel on Mother’s Milk
Producers messed with Mother’s Milk too much. Imagine if they laid off and the peppers had liked it more and they continued with more crunch
Glad this video popped up in my shit....Classic.
HILLEL in full effect.
Thanks for putting this on the Tube here.
It's on TH-cam not in your shit. What are you talking about
Que grande Hillel!!!
Is that a jcm900?
The question of what band sounds like us, even today not a lot. Bad Brains, Faith No More, Sublime maybe OFF! but, not a lot.
Jack Irons is great here
La mejor época y la mejor formación de la banda después de la que todos conocemos. Hillel tenía un estilo tremendo y tocaba muy bien. La influencia de este en Frusciante es notable
Imagine, just a month later restless soul of Hillel gone for good
😢😢
Once they were warriors. Now they make me yawn.
Essa guitarra arranhada e arrebentada de Hillel é um tesouro ...

Always kinda sad to watch live footage from this era... It's obvious that Hillel's condition was affecting his playing. RIP.
its funny cause Ak and Flea seems healthy even using drugs same as Hillel

Didn’t realize that guitar that John still uses today was from Hillel
Not true, John lost it in a home fire
