Finland was his last, check that one. Provinssirock ‘88. There is a story also how a rockband from my country (Estonia) was asked to perform at Provinssirock and on the way from harbour to the festival place the finns said tjey must pick up some band from usa. Estonians were pissed off, but it turned out to be fun band called Red Hot Chili Peppers. Of course all were stoned to the bone of drugs we never heard before (88 was when sovjet started to crumble). I remember from a recent interview that while Anthony and Flea sooke all the time, Hillel didn’t say a word, must’ve been in pain between drugs. And in next 3 weeks he was gone..
Slovak had the crunch sound, and that was my favorite RCHP era by far. Frusciante had some good moments for sure but the Peppers weren’t the same after this.
Yeah agree totally - as talented as John is his drug abuse completely stripped the “fun” out of the Chilis over time. Thankfully mother’s milk and BSSM exist!
Jack Irons and Hillel Slovak ... this was the best Chzilli Peppers time ... Irons , Slovak, kiedis and Flea were the prime ... but Frusciante had some great licks too
La mejor época y la mejor formación de la banda después de la que todos conocemos. Hillel tenía un estilo tremendo y tocaba muy bien. La influencia de este en Frusciante es notable
Hillel was Frusciante* s hero ... absolutely, mine too ... his sound get's great once he has the Gibson ...Anthony is trippin .... planting beans , löl ... drummer is killing it , Flea as usual ... Crosstown was brilliant
I can see how happy and free AK is with his original band mates. I don't think he ever thought it would be a shorter period of time together? If it feels good it is bad. I think that would have angered him.
Say wahtever you want about current day watered down RHCP, no one sounded like this at the time. Fresh unique, sound borrowing from acts like Parlament and punk rock.
He found the rhcp's guitar sound and John went for it afterwards... he just started developping his own style and it came out as a masterpiece in bssm. Hillel gave an identity to the band, with Flea. John and Chad put them on another level.
@@coreytrevor1255no chance, their funk sound would become irrelevant in the early 2000’s sound was changing and style was changing, surf and skateboarding culture became to take over with the mellower sounds and stripped back style, this era of chili peppers had too much going on, too much chorus, too much saturated guitar and the bass was very 80’s quacky sounding. John’s influence when he came back after listening to a fuck Tonne of the cure etc. brought them that real nice mellower style
RATM started in 1991. So YES, they were influenced by RHCP (a lot). Check some instrumentals by RHCP around the time John and Chad joined in, like "The a song that made us what we are today". RATM clearly loved them.
Man Hillel’s guitar sounds amazing here. He was groundbreaking in my opinion, no one in that scene played like him.

he’s being sarcastic. cant you tell he’s winding his band mates up when he says that he made them instantly successful? its called “humour”

Agreed, but I think he did his best to honor Hillel on Mother’s Milk
Producers messed with Mother’s Milk too much. Imagine if they laid off and the peppers had liked it more and they continued with more crunch
Ahh hearing no chump love sucker live is a total joy!! Very happy to have stumbled over this recording…. Precious piece of musical history
Man what a Legend gone way too soon , what a Band wow

This was the fuckin' band.

The question of what band sounds like us, even today not a lot. Bad Brains, Faith No More, Sublime maybe OFF! but, not a lot.
RHCP 🤝 Pinkpop

So sad that Hillel was dead just a month later. Never thought I'd say it but one of Israel's finest.

Didn’t realize that guitar that John still uses today was from Hillel
Not true, John lost it in a home fire
Hillel's brother said Hillel was buried with the Fender he used here. It's such a strange thought while watching this, but your comment prompted it. 😅
its not. different guitar completely. look at the headstock
