I doubt he actually hated it, considering how thoughtful he was in everything he created. I suspect that he resented the album for skyrocketing them into being the biggest band in the world, which he never wanted, and truly hated, and severely worsened his self-sabotage. John has a similar mind. In his first interview in his house and after the first time he left the band, he said that he didn’t think they would get much bigger than they were when he joined, and that he hadn’t wanted it to happen. Then BSSM blasted them to stardom and he quit the band and is lucky he didn’t die in those following years.
