      I have both and agree with your review. Ear plugs on the Pista are a must! I also have a Corsa which is slightly quieter than my Pistas but still very loud compared to the X-14. For the road, the X-14 is far more practical with more venting and visor positions. The Pista is ideally for the track. If you want the look of the Pista at a lower price, opening and closing vents and slightly quieter then look at the AGV Corsa range.

      Shoei has always been known to be more comfortable overall however AGV has been on point for track helmets. I just picked up a 75th anniversary Pista GP RR and the amount of air flow through the helmet is amazing.

    Just picked up an X-Fourteen yesterday! I love it. It feels REALLY good, it doesn’t move around at all compared to my HJC (super stable), it’s quiet except when you turn your head to look back at higher speeds (the rear vents are always open) and bonus, there’s room for headphones. I am hoping to get to a track soon so I can give more on the helmet!

    I'm a bit late to the party, but thanks for making this video. I've been trying to decide between the two, and I believe I'm going to go with the Shoei, as I'm strictly a street rider and don't need the race-specific features. Gotta say though, the AGV knocks it out of the park with the styling.

    Your AGV might have been one size too big - they have half sizes, like Medium small and Medium large. Having measured my head, I got a Corsa-R medium Small and the first try felt like the shell was too small and going to rip my ears. While my X-Spirit III (Medium) felt just good and easy to fit.
    As for the ventilation, the AGV are very bad for that, or rather it only works well in racing position. When riding upright, the Shoei works much better and gets you cooled easily.
    Wow, I was considering buying a GP-RR but I had forgotten the feel of my Corsa-R. It's really like there's no padding inside, it almost feels wrong. The X-Spirit III feels much better there. My Scorpion Exo R1 Air also gives a good feeling here.
    I feel like I've saved a grand! Thanks Eric! ;)

    Shoei 200%. AGV is Italian and yes they make sexy looking stuff, but also unreliable and non-comfy. I had a Shoei X-14 matte black and it was the best helmet I've ever had. Super comfy and really quiet. No drags at all so you can concentrate on your ride. Probably saved my life from a crash against a pickup truck. Sadly had to buy a new helmet and went with a Scorpion EXO-R1 air carbon, because I didn't want to pay that premium price. Still have a great helmet for half price, but you can tell the difference in quality right out of the box. Probably gonna wait for Shoei nest generation helmet (X-15) and will buy another one.

    • @itsmeericb
      @itsmeericb  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the Shoei thus far has been the best helmet I’ve owned. It’s the most comfortable and problem free. Still can’t beat the styling and aerodynamics of the AGV.

    Hi there thanks for the comparison review. I have the original Pista (46 Project) in matte carbon, and a number of the more modern current (but different styles) Corsa R helmets. I love all of them and yes are similar in that they are noisy. I have just ordered the Agv Pista GP RR in matte carbon and cant wait to receive it! Although i am guessing it will be noisy like my others. But as you pointed out wearing ear plugs is more or less essential
    Not a fan of the Shoei helmets, mostly had Arai helmets during my life.
    Thanks again mate for the video 👍👍👍

    Quick question, how was the sizing difference? If I remember correctly I tried on an agv at secs years ago and had to go a size up on the agv, probably gonna go with the x14 cause I’m not racing and now have a Ducati monster 1200 but man that agv looks amazing

    • @itsmeericb
      @itsmeericb  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ducrider749s I feel that the Shoei has a tighter more comfortable fit. I measure small but I went down one size on both. I like my helmets to fit nice and snug. The AGV feels not as tight as my Shoei.

    I got both… the AGV def is a lot (like… a lot…) louder. Also head shape is less oval (if that makes sense). The Shoei fits me like a glove. AGV not so much… also opening the visor with gloves on is less easy… AGV is more of a track helmet and has better view range…

    Just got a Pista R. Have been wearing an X-14 recently. Agree with most of what you said ... Pista for weight, aerodynamics & field of vision. Shoei for airflow (and, therefore, also non-fogging, at least without a pinlock ... tho’ either should be fine with a pinlock installed), snug/reassuring fit, and better graphics/designs imo. The Pista visors have 3 positions tho’, not 2 ... ... I prefer the biplano/R rear spoiler, and don’t see any point in paying more for the RR (just seems like an AGV money-grab to me 🤷🏻‍♂️). Need to wear the Pista more, but I probably prefer the X-14 so far, since snug/safe/reassuring/confidence-inspiring and ventilation are top priorities for me. Prefer the range of designs, too. I’m a bit surprised, since I thought the Pistas were meant to have the best airflow of any helmet ... ?! By the same token tho’, the Pista wasn’t as noisy as I expected. As a muso, I wear earplugs anyway, so - once again - ventilation is equal most important (and it’s corollary, noise, doesn’t really concern me).

    • @itsmeericb
      @itsmeericb  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kieren Moore I used to have the standard GP R and the big difference is that the GP RR is FIM rated, adjustable padding, new style of spoiler and that’s about it. The price should be no different from when the GP R was originally introduced. The one I have in the video is the special edition which is why it’s so expensive. The AGV flows air pretty good it’s just the Shoei has more vents. Also the AGV has a pre lock then fully locked but does not have individual positions like the Shoei... So basically full open or closed and no in between.

    • @kierenmoore3236
      @kierenmoore3236 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ItsMeEricB - The pre-lock, as you call it, *is literally* an “in-between” position, tho’ ... 🙃 Agree that the Pista does flow air “pretty good”; though I note that once the visor is fogged, even opening it wide at speed won’t unfog it (I’m waiting for tinted visors before installing the pinlocks). That’s more the design/material of the visor, than a ‘ventilation’ issue, tho’. Tho’, the ventilation doesn’t *prevent* it from fogging up, either (the X-14 does a *better* (tho’ not perfect) job of that, ime). I expect the X-14 will remain my main helmet. Will see how a modern/current RX-7V compares to them both, soon; I have an old Quantum-f, and the visor brow-vents and comfort of the Arais have long been great. Also agree that the RR should just be AGV’s ‘new iPhone’; some very modest updates, released at the same price as the last incarnation. They’ve already been charging a super-premium for all-carbon-fibre; charging a super-premium for an extra R at the same time now really is too much/unjustifiable. 🇮🇹 😏

    • @itsmeericb
      @itsmeericb  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kieren Moore I still need to install my pinlocks on both X-14 and Pista. It did pretty good with my last Pista during the winter months. Also the in between position to me is like the Shoei where you can keep it halfway open and it not fall. 😄 I still see where you are coming from.

      It's pretty true to size but I am fitted for a SM and I wear an XS in the X-14. I always go one size down because I like a helmet that fits pretty snug. I think you would be fine with a size M if that is what you usually wear.
