While I'm sure this is a good starter, I don't get why people insist on making traditional sourdough so difficult. I just bring out my sourdough starter out of the fridge and feed it for what I need and back in the fridge it goes. People have been using this method for hundreds of years. Fancy chefs have made sourdough way too complicated when the old ways work well without getting complicated.
I Totally Agree, what a waste to buy a new starter, starter/poolish is so incredibly easy to keep and start for pennies. The premise of making your own bread is for cost, flavor and freshness. But why are people these days ok with spending so much. You're all raising the prices because you're so willing to pay for what you don't know about.

Homestead Heart (on TH-cam) has a video on their Azure pickup process and it is exactly like it sounds. I think it was several months (maybe a year) ago, but it's still great to see in action.
@@Showard4743I wish this was my pickup!!! We have a few really great people but a lot of people just grab their stuff and leave and they stand and wait for their stuff and don’t help others… I had heard so many good things so it was a bit heartbreaking to see it being so different in the town I pickup in.
There's 3 different types. 1) picking up from a drop coordinator (usually someone's house that has room enough and an area that's protected from elements) 2) a drop location, such as a church parking lot where the Azure truck pulls up and everyone helps unload and distribute items 2) direct ship to your house. All of these options may not be available to everyone, and depends on your location. I understand not reserving perishable items for the first person to check out with it in their cart, but done wasting my time hoping and praying that someone won't come along and take an item I desperately need when I can just go somewhere else where they take my money right away and make sure that I actually get the product since I asked for it first. Great products, but not worth the constant uncertainty. Don't get me started on erratic delivery and constant time changes with zero flexibility there.

Trying to do the pick up becomes difficult and no one in my pickup area is willing to pick up my order and keep it for one to three days, even for extra cash. So I’m having to use other options.
Hi friend! I chatted about a similar experience at the end of the video. I was able to try Azure for the first time bc my summer work schedule is a bit flexible but you’re very right about that. Perhaps I’ll be able to order from them twice a year (even though I wish it would be more) but I was more than satisfied with everything I got. I’m hoping to try a different location that holds your order for evening pick ups.
Once upon a time they did have schedules. Back in our early homeschool years it always was a conflict with orchestra for my kids. So... I wasnt able to participate. Now, it's so loosey goosey. Now you sit and wait and cant plan anything the week it's supposed to deliver. 😢 I can only order when it isnt during another pickup I have that is scheduled (same week of the month. Same day of the week. And fortunately same time)
I always appreciate your honest and thorough reviews! You offer a unique viewpoint and always answer my internal questions that other you tubers gloss over. Thank you Cassandra! Also 19:47 Hallelujah! 🙌😂
A lot of people aren't aware that they also offer an option for the items to be shipped directly to your house. Although it's an additional cost, I prefer to do that when I order. I buy their seasonings in bulk and store them in big mason jars.
Oh that's a smart idea! I did see that they deliver straight to your house, and a friend of mine mentioned that she pays for the up charge because of the convenience.
Girl, I am not trying to go broke at Azure either 😂 I spend an average of $100 when I order and I try to only order every few months. I like to get the things I can't get at the stores and/or are a better price. Organic sugar, raisins, dried mango and apricots, butter, shortening, flour are a few of my staples. Be careful of their produce, it's a 50/50 chance that it's good quality but they are fantastic about refunds. They won't refund your card but issue a credit. I am thankful for the things I can get there. It's nice to have an arsenal of stores. Nothing beats my Sharp Shopper though! 😊 Have a great week!
I hear you! Yes, I don't think that you need to spend hundreds of dollars at Azure, and when you do, its fine to go with the stapes and prioritize items that aren't easily accessible in your area. I read mixed reviews on the produce so I didn't get any this time. It's at least good to know that they will give you store credit. I enjoy listening to their channel to learn about food and farm practices, but yes, I wanted a show what a smaller Azure haul could look like!
@@BecomingaFarmGirlthe produce is best when ordering in season and when you the shipping isn’t too far. Watermelon in August is a good bet. Peaches in September, not so much.
@heathermoses6183 ... noooo Heather😂 ... I don't think anyone will go broke from shopping with Azure. It's usually those many purchases of them buying things that they truly don't "need". But that's their business though. Lol Sadly, they were already broke if they say it's due to their Azure purchases. But yes, it's very helpful to purchase from them when it's not available locally. We've only ordered from them about 2 or 3 times so far, and we really try to only get the items that the local stores either don't have or they don't offer it in bulk. And it's also quite challenging to find many of the organic items locally. But I agree, you have to know how much you plan to spend with them because that cart amount adds up quickly😃
Thanks for this information. The reason I have not set-up an azure account is because I could not pickup during the morning. However, having the home pick option means I might be able to order from them now. Thanks a million for this information
Hey Chae! No problem! I hear you! I know you'll be so pleased with what you get from them, but yes, it can be challenging to coordinate pick and delivery if you work away from your home during standard business hours. I think it'll be a great option for me during the summer and possibly if my folks are in town and could pick up the items for me.
Yayyy, I love that you got Fan Girl-ed at the Azuer pick-up, that's awesome!! 😍 This was such an interesting video, I really enjoyed it. Does marshmallow root smell like marshmallows?? I'm dreaming of making sour dough starter when I move back to KC and I have family to feed again lol. I didn't know cream cheese required a starter as well, that looks so amazing, I'll have to try it.
Your channel is very interesting...and I thank you. I did, however, want to let you know that you don't HAVE to keep your sourdough starter on the counter, and you don't HAVE to discard any of it. Also, if you do discard, there are a plethora of recipes using sourdough discard 😉...
Hi Cassandra! I just picked up my Azure order yesterday. I was looking at that sourdough starter, but the price kept me from putting it in my cart. I didn’t know there was no discard until I watched your video. I might have to order some next month. And the cheese, oh my! I think that will be going in my cart also! Very informative video, so thank you!
This was a great and informative show Cassandra! I love Azure and Thrive both! I have never ordered that block of cheese but I think I will next time. God bless and take care!
We have had a great experience with Azure! We are so blessed that our closest drop off is 1/4 mile away. One time I had an item arrive damaged and they quickly put a credit to my account so I could re-order the next time and they also gave me a bonus to my Azure cash for the trouble. Great customer service and so far every product has been great. We get so many things but love to get our wheat berries to grind our own flour and their prices for organic can't be beat! So glad you gave them a try. Next month I'm going to try the bread starter.
I love Azure. I order from them every month, usually quite a bit. I live in a rural area and there’s very little organic food available in our local grocery stores. And I can’t get organic livestock feed anywhere locally. Organic is important to me, so I’m glad I found this resource.
@@juliabrown5948 I buy enough for at least a month, to get my livestock through to the next delivery. If I have extra money, I’ll buy more but it’s not a good idea to store feed more than six months, so I don’t buy too far ahead. I store it in metal garbage cans. And my critters really like it. There’s been a couple times I ran out before the next delivery and I had to buy feed at the local Tactor Supply to cover the gap. My animals don’t eat as much when that happens. And when they eat less, they don’t grow and they lay fewer eggs. So I do my best not to run out.
Question: when you shred the block of cheese like that does the freezer make it clumpy or do you toss with a little bit arrowroot powder or cornstarch to keep it from clumping? Thanks for your tips!
We also finally got our first Azure order in June! And we have that exactly raw cheddar in our order this month! We also do only about 100-150 dollars and really plan to use it mainly for bulk grains. But the cheese is definitely one I am excited to try!
That's awesome I appreciate it. I get overwhelmed on my small homestead. I'm trying to balance everything and still work as a Nurse. I needed this shortcut. Where do you have that recipe?
New Subscriber Loved your video on Azure. I have been debating on trying them out. Watching your video made up my mind. Placing my first order this week. ❤❤
I love Azure, they are my primary grocery source now. And I also love their bulk cheese - although I’m hoping your audience doesn’t sell out the white cheddar this coming month because I need some 😅. Thank you for the starter how to’s - another thing to add to my order.
Thanks for sharing your Azure experience. I have tried it once so far and enjoyed everything I purchased. Mainly organic dried fruits, grass fed beef and the raw cheeses. Yummy!
I love Azure Standard, but we are a small family of 3 so my orders are never huge and I make sure like you that I can properly rotate through all the goods without any quality issues or losses. I definitely keep my budget around 100 to 120 when I order, because more would be too much for us. I ordered the water kefir grains this month for the first time. Our order is supposed to be delivered today but has gotten pushed back until tomorrow (mechanical trouble). I'm super excited to try the kefir grains!
She got it at a thrift store. I’d love one too. I found a plastic one but to have a vintage one of that quality, wow! I’m always on the lookout when thrifting 😉.
Love Azureand they have so many gluten free and vegan products. Oh and if anyone is like me they have gamma seals the cheapest I seen anywhere. Also love the laundry soap, dish soap. I just love Azure.
I love Azure for the quality of flours and the excellent choice of organic pantry staples. Many things are cost effective compared to standard grocery stores. I appreciate their descriptions and conviction to quality products.
I have not shopped Azure yet bc I haven't wanted to spend hundreds of dollars. Thanks Cassandra! I normally skip all "haul" videos because they just turn me off. Many Blessings from Deborah in West Virginia!
Cassie, did you know Azure sells paper products for food storage, and plastic bags that have less chemicals? Their frozen fruit and veggies are wonderful as well. We buy everything in the 5lb size and just take a bit out of the freezer as we need them.
Their maple syrup is really good … when I had a deep freezer I’d order everything from them in bulk and vacuum seal it , I’d buy dried goods like my beans (I bought soy from them when I was strictly Vegas and id make soy milk) and garbanzo beans . I think 25 pounds of each. And I get my cashews and almonds and pumpkin seeds in bulks and raw cacao powder and sugar I like the drops because I knew the drop coordinator she was very kind and then she would take items to her house for people who didn’t show up , it is very reminiscent of a community co-op
Thank you for such a great video. I have wondered about Azure and yours is the first that did such a good job of explaining & showing. However it is not meant to be. I clicked your link and looked for a drop close to me and there is nothing, they don't even give anything miles away (which wouldn't be convent anyway) and I just can't do that shipping cost. Maybe someday. Still, a great video anyway, LOL!
I’ve been a drop coordinator for over 15 years. There have been a few ups and downs. But it’s been altogether worth it. And now that they’ve switched to box vans on my route, I can receive delivery on my property, which is much more convenient.
Since you’re a coordinator, may I ask if you can accommodate a disabled person at the pick up? I’ve been hesitant to order because I can’t really really help unload the truck. Thanks!
I’m also a drop coordinator. I’m am curious to know where you are. I am in Central Florida and would love to get a box truck delivery to my home. I’m not sure if our order would fit in a small truck but that’s so cool that you have that option.
Azure Standard has THE BEST ethics. They're honest, they're open, they say 'we didnt have a great crop this year, so we weren't able to discount like we did last year' in their sales flyer they give you. The transparency is unbeatable. I order every 2-3 months; absolutely great selection and bulk prices. Oh, and their sales flyer has helped me find new products I normally would have missed on their site!!
@@yesterdayseyes How would they steal from you? If something isn’t shipped, you aren’t billed for it. If something is lost they’ll refund you. I’ve been a customer for 20 years, sometimes it’s hard to get hold of a person lately, but they always make things right.
Not true @preppingmama I order every month. I am a DC. They sometimes don't apply our gratitude we earn for volunteering to be DC and at least 4 times a year, I am charged for something that didn't show up.
We have a bread store about an hour from here that has kefir juice starter. They have it refrigerated in a mason jar. All you do is remove 4 oz of your juice and pour the starter in, then let it sit on your counter overnight. Then you add 4oz of the fermented juice to the mason jar for next time and put it in the refrigerator. Fizzy juice is so good but you only want a little! I save the 4oz of removed juice and add back to the bottle of juice after it is fermented.
Your timing couldn't be better. I have been looking at Azure. Also, besides canning and such, what are your thoughts on homemade pemmican. Do you have a recipe?
This was the video I needed to see because I have been wanting to order. I need that cheese grater. Could you please share where to get it from please?
To ask the silly question what is the name of that shredder you used on the cheese please? I have never seen anything like that and as I get older I have less patience with the old box shredders.
I don’t have a lot of space and don’t meal prep well at all and I order from azure every month usually including raw cheese, random sale items, a few produce items like beets and zucchini and frozen diced butternut squash, also coconut sugar products and many other things. I think anyone can benefit from buying from them
I love ordering from Azure. I order small amounts of items the first time just to make sure I like it. You should still watch prices to make sure it is economical for you and your family.
Hi Tracie! This is a perfect way to use Azure. You know you're getting quality AND a competitive bulk price. I couldn't agree more that buying what you need already knowing that you have a plan on how to use it is the best way to dive into shopping at speciality stores or when purchasing bulk items. I was tempted to get the frozen fruit to can it. Glad to see this is a main stay on your list!
@@BecomingaFarmGirl that is why I got the fruit this time. I am going to can 20 lbs of strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries in light syrup this week. I can’t wait to have those on my shelves.
There is no rush. I feel like this first time haul was at least 5 or more years in the making (and even then it was on the smaller side as you saw). It was great to dip my toe in and see how the product offerings compared. Even if I don't shop Azure for everything, I do see myself placing 1-2 orders a year for speciality bulk items (like the cheese, girl GET THE RAW CHEESE! lol)

Thank you for educating on AZURE & sharing how you ordered
A lot of people aren't aware that they also offer an option for the items to be shipped directly to your house. Although it's an additional cost, I prefer to do that when I order. I buy their seasonings in bulk and store them in big mason jars.
Oh that's a smart idea! I did see that they deliver straight to your house, and a friend of mine mentioned that she pays for the up charge because of the convenience.
Great illustration on how you used your items from your order. Azure is a nice company!!!
I have been looking at this company for a while and really wish it was available in Canada!!

What is the link for the podcast. Maybe I found it but the one that I found didn't seem to speak about the Azure business.
@heathermoses6183 ... noooo Heather😂 ... I don't think anyone will go broke from shopping with Azure. It's usually those many purchases of them buying things that they truly don't "need". But that's their business though. Lol
Sadly, they were already broke if they say it's due to their Azure purchases.
I joined azure a few weeks ago. Seeing you received yours I surely have to put in a order😂
I love Azure! Your earings are adorable!
Love, LOVE, LOOOOOVE those Dragonfly earrings!
I love the fact that you showed how you used your Azure purchases, & how it worked out. Thanks for your time!
Cassandra, miss your videos. Hope you post soon!
I've been on the edge for awhile. Your video is helping me jump. Tks so much.
Cassandra, you just need to cross that border into PA and you can get all the raw milk you want! There are plenty of Amish farms here that sell it!
Pet milk in Maryland is the same right?
It's pet milk in NJ
If you go the dairy goat route you’ll need a cream separator to make butter and cream cheese😊 3:53 and you’ll need between 3 and 5 goats.
God bless and take care!
you’re literally my comfort person i love you kislux !
I would love to hear how you like their organic feed. I don't hear much about that, how much do you buy and how do you store it?
I am so thankful for this information. I’ve been curious about Azure for a long time. You’ve given me a lot of insight and answered questions I had. 🙏
We also finally got our first Azure order in June! And we have that exactly raw cheddar in our order this month! We also do only about 100-150 dollars and really plan to use it mainly for bulk grains. But the cheese is definitely one I am excited to try!
About to make my first order and I’ve watched too many videos but this was the best!
Your skin looks amazing! We need info on your skincare regimen.
Just genetics
Thanks for your video. I've watched a few of yours now. Thanks for sharing real life with us!
Oh my goodness!! I've just started subscribing to your channel and this video is so very helpful! Thank you very much for the share😀
I love Azure, they are my primary grocery source now. And I also love their bulk cheese - although I’m hoping your audience doesn’t sell out the white cheddar this coming month because I need some 😅. Thank you for the starter how to’s - another thing to add to my order.
It has been a struggle trying to make a starter. Thanx for the tutorial.
Great video. I have to make sure to watch more. Can you share where to get the metal grater? Thanks.
She got it at a thrift store. I’d love one too. I found a plastic one but to have a vintage one of that quality, wow! I’m always on the lookout when thrifting 😉.
It looks similar to one I have, google vintage food master grater/slicer. Similar ones should pop up.
@@jennwatson74Thanks!!! ❤️✝️❤️
And I get my cashews and almonds and pumpkin seeds in bulks and raw cacao powder and sugar
I like the drops because I knew the drop coordinator she was very kind and then she would take items to her house for people who didn’t show up , it is very reminiscent of a community co-op
Where did you get that wonderful cheese grater? That looks so much easier than a box grater!
Amen ❤️✝️❤️
Wow never would of thought to get a bread starter from Azure!!
Lol, they stole from me and laughed about it when I called them. My bank reversed the charge. The best ethics 😂 lol
@@yesterdayseyes How would they steal from you? If something isn’t shipped, you aren’t billed for it. If something is lost they’ll refund you. I’ve been a customer for 20 years, sometimes it’s hard to get hold of a person lately, but they always make things right.
Not true @preppingmama
I order every month. I am a DC. They sometimes don't apply our gratitude we earn for volunteering to be DC and at least 4 times a year, I am charged for something that didn't show up.
Do u have a video about meal planning for a month? If not I’d love to see one!
The Graziers cheese is the best!! I order a box of sharp cheddar which has 2 of the large loaves of cheese. I hope you try it and love it!!
Hoping all is well with you. I'm not used to going so long without a video from you. We miss you!
I save the 4oz of removed juice and add back to the bottle of juice after it is fermented.
class is in session!
Sis, I’ve been waiting this information!!!
I have done a few pickups
I would like to order more but I am a nurse it’s hard to coordinate my schedule
Your timing couldn't be better. I have been looking at Azure.
Also, besides canning and such, what are your thoughts on homemade pemmican. Do you have a recipe?
This was the video I needed to see because I have been wanting to order. I need that cheese grater. Could you please share where to get it from please?
To ask the silly question what is the name of that shredder you used on the cheese please? I have never seen anything like that and as I get older I have less patience with the old box shredders.
Can you talk more about monthly meal planning and strategies you employ to rotate your stockpile?
I am curious about the grater/grinder you used for the cheese. What is the brand and do you know where I could find one? TIA
I don’t have a lot of space and don’t meal prep well at all and I order from azure every month usually including raw cheese, random sale items, a few produce items like beets and zucchini and frozen diced butternut squash, also coconut sugar products and many other things. I think anyone can benefit from buying from them
i have been watching your videos and just wanted to say thank you.
Where can I get the Cheese Grater - Love It!!! ❤️✝️❤️
I made a wonderful starter from grapes and rye flour. I follow Our Gabled Home method of storing starter she doesn't do a discard.
your complexion is perfection.😘
Just the thing I needed to check them out.
You'll love how easy the website is to navigate and I'm certain you won't be disappointed with the quality of anything you get. Hope this was helpful!
I've been absent all season. I'll be catching up😊 love ya
Hope you’re surviving the start of school and hope to see you soon!
I love ordering from Azure. I order small amounts of items the first time just to make sure I like it. You should still watch prices to make sure it is economical for you and your family.
I too am ordering from Azure Standard. Did you ever do a home made Ketchup recipe?
You have had your bread starter for a while are you still loving it? Sitting on the fence whether to try it.
I only get things like bulk oats, wheat berries, spices, and frozen fruit.
Awesome video
Hey, girl 👋🏻. I haven't purchased from they yet, but I am on their list of to do's . 😂
There is no rush. I feel like this first time haul was at least 5 or more years in the making (and even then it was on the smaller side as you saw). It was great to dip my toe in and see how the product offerings compared. Even if I don't shop Azure for everything, I do see myself placing 1-2 orders a year for speciality bulk items (like the cheese, girl GET THE RAW CHEESE! lol)
@@BecomingaFarmGirl 🤣🤣 I thought I was bad. I been waiting 2 years. I have confidence to try npw because you wouldn't give ANY stamp of approval unless it was legit. ❤️
Great, great vid!!! Thank you!
Helpful and inspiring. Thank you!
Hi Becoming a farm girl 😊 thanks for the video, so u🎉
Is there something one can use when cleaning silicone? I used them for muffins, but the muffins ended up with an aftertaste 😢
Try just baking soda. A touch of white vinegar is there’s an oily residue. Never use dish detergent.
The cultures were interesting. We buy from Azure. I will need to get the cream cheese culture. Now won't you be able to use your cream cheese as a live culture for at least three times? Live bacteria sour cream can be used about three times before starting fresh. Thank you, Cassandra!
Can i get the link for the food grinder
Yes me too!
Love it!!! ❤️✝️❤️
Cassandra what brand is your pressure canner? I have a flat top stove like yours
